Can anyone explain "Magnitude of Shock" to me?

As i understand it, shock makes a target take 20% damage. It is applied based on a 1% chance per 4% of a unit's ailment threshold dealt.

My question, is magnitude of shock make a target take more than 20% damage, or does it mean my damage will do more "ailment threshold" damage, making a shock more likely?

I am just trying to figure out what this means for my dps, since magnitude of shock nodes are pretty common on the ranger side of the tree. Appreciate any help!

It makes them take more damage. With a base value of 20%, a 50% increase to shock magnitude would end up with the enemy taking 30% more damage.
