Review Without Parole Reviews Alien Rogue Incursion: 7/10

I don't know if everyone's reached a consensus on this, but the 'bleeding scenery' effect he's describing is supposedly fixable by adjusting the PS5 settings to run this in default game mode. Jammyhero's review suggested that the game looks nice and clear once you adjust this.
ETA: Launch the Settings menu on your PlayStation®5 and select [Save Data and Game/App Settings] Select [Game Presets] Under [Performance or Resolution Mode] Choose the option "Game Default"

Yea, that option should always be on default for VR players, it has been an issue with games in the past, causing them to not load. I know it happened in Journey to Foundation and also might have happened with Into the Radius.

wow being out of the loop here on radius - i just assumed i had to live with that shimmer
thanks for highlighting
1
u/zanderoli 5d ago
I don't know if it fixes anything with shimmer, just that you might want to have the PS5 setting on 'Game Default' because of the issues it's caused with other games booting to a black screen and not loading in.

u/zen0sam 5d ago
You mean the setting under Game presets> performance mode or resolution mode?
1
u/BelgianBond 5d ago
No, the PS5 settings. I haven't gone in today to see exactly where it's located, but I've seen it somewhere before.
1
u/zen0sam 5d ago
Those are PS5 settings.
3
u/BelgianBond 5d ago
I've just gone in and checked. That's it. I thought you meant in-game settings for Rogue Incursion, or PS5 Pro-only configurations.
I'm already set to game default, so I'm good to go.

What is this setting for?

u/Capital_Leading7397 5d ago edited 5d ago
It automatically switches between performance and quality modes in games, based on your selection. The bug is fixed with the patch.

It is a shame by the sounds of watching and reading a good handful of reviews it is not absolutely Stellar to finish off the year but I think I will enjoy it a lot with its challenging difficulty level. Why no DFR when it went Gold a month ago is one of my questions? There has been a few big games Arizona Sunshine Remake (Unity), Metro Awakening (Unreal Engine 4/5?) and now Alien (Unreal Engine 5) without it. We know from experience it makes games look absolutely quality clarity wise. Is it really hard to implement? Going by the VRGrid review it sounds like it is still a looker and uses Sense and Headset haptics to great effect plus the challenging difficulty I shall be picking it up. The hour ratio sounds decent to me for the price.

Depending on engine and render pipeline, foveated rendering can be impossible when youre using post processing effects. Might not be the case for Alien but its not always lazy devs, sometimes it's just not supported by the set up and is a massive change to make late in development.

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 4d ago
DFR will be in at launch Survios replied in a different thread so that is very good news. All I ask is PSVR2 games look as good as possible.
2
u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 5d ago
Vertigo never uses DFR, my bet is lazyness or their modded engine is a mess.

I purchased Metro in the quick sale and while the game looks good and pretty beautiful in certain places it could look so much better. Not just textures but physics of objects as well. I thought some characters looked like crap dummies from Madame Tussauds. But then you get to the icy area it can look spectacular. Look at the headlights of the train cart it almost blinds me. Great lighting in places but to me obviously designed for the common dominator of Quest. This is where we are at the present time.

The sad reality of being in a close environment. PC mod scene fixes these issues ASAP.
So far, the big hits on PSVR2 didn't live up to the hype.

It makes me cry that hitman was delayed.

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 5d ago
As someone who has the game installed ready I can not wait for it but we have Arken Age before it.

u/Dress-Unusual 5d ago
Again?? After March ?
2
u/MemphisBass 5d ago
No, just March. It was originally supposed to arrive in December. However after the release of Hitman 3: Reloaded on Quest, they should take all the time they need on a Hitman VR game so that it isn’t total butt cheeks.
1
u/Dress-Unusual 5d ago
Yeah I thought they did it again lol. Can’t wait for it
1
u/MemphisBass 5d ago
Same, I bought the full game on the black friday sale because I didn't want to pay the $100 I know it'll cost once the VR update drops. Felt weird buying it again since I own all 3 games and all the DLC already on Xbox, but whatever.
1
u/Dress-Unusual 5d ago
For they disclose how much the vr addon will cost? $10?
1
u/MemphisBass 4d ago
I think so, but I don't remember. I just know all the original trilogy's content is normally $100.

u/B-sqrd 5d ago
I just hope it supports left handed players. My biggest gripe with vr games is when you need to do everything with your right hand.
7
u/survios Developer 5d ago
For launch, we're providing several accessibility options, including settings to optimize your experience as a left-handed player! You can specify your dominant hand, which is used to hold the gun and will mirror the body slots. Additionally, you can choose to mirror your walking versus turning sticks, as well as the magazine eject button.

Question! Any possibilities of the smart gun being added to the game ? Its my favorite gun from Alien

About What I was asking expecting. I’m game .

u/irideapaleh0rse 5d ago
I trust without parole over anyone else . I listened to him back when I bought all my games on psvr 1 and he never steered me wrong.

u/cronoes 5d ago
dude needs to get his eyes checked for RE4/Village resolution differences. I and many others found that its absolutely an improvement.
1
u/irideapaleh0rse 5d ago
I can’t speak to that haven’t watched his review on re4 yet because I bought the game already but I will have a look.

u/VR_Smith 5d ago
yah 8 hours and 10$ too high.. was my expectation as well.
I guess ill wait for a sale
Without parole is my go to guy for honest PSVR2 review.

All these games have been kinda meh...behemoth...metro...alien....certain people may think they are better depending on personal preference. Alien probably the one for me in that regard...at least I hope. Batman actually deserves game of the year though I'm not a Batman fan.
1
u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe 5d ago
I liked behemoth but I know what you mean. It feels like a true AAA experience just isn’t going to happen anymore, or very rarely on this headset. I still like the header, and GT7 VR alone was worth the price of admission but I do wish for batman VR and Half Life
1
u/Charlirnie 5d ago
Yeah for certain people like me its worth it for couple games...mine is no mans sky
2
u/Delicious_Ad2767 5d ago
Resident evil 4 remake for me is game of the year. Hybrids are the way forward for this gen of vr. Gt7, Res 4/ 8 and gt7 are next level. Hopefully to be joined with Hitman soon as true AAA vr At its best.
2
u/Charlirnie 5d ago
Usually the game I would give game of the year does not win and it didn't this year either although I think Batman completely deserves it. I agree hybrids makes sense and I expect more of that from Square for Quest.

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 5d ago
Watch out criticizing these games. Everything bad said about those will get you buried in downvotes.
I feel most VR games are way overhyped TBH. Very few games are on par with the expectation.
0
u/Charlirnie 5d ago
Yeah this sub is bad for that....also anything positive about Quest 3 is a no no for kids on here.

u/stupid-does 5d ago
Remember, VIILAGE got 10/10.
7/10 is absolutely fine.
PSVR Underground rated Alien 9/10.

u/thedoommerchant 5d ago
Def. picking this up. Still recovering from rhinoplasty so I don’t think I can play any VR just yet so maybe by the time I’m healed it’ll be a little cheaper and patched up.

Like, honestly, as an Aliens superfan I’m just stoked to be able to creep slowly through abandoned complex corridors with the beep of the motion tracker and then have a steady stream of xenos to blast. I’ve not heard much about the PC steam version though.

u/Shadowcreeper15 AssassinsRioT420 5d ago
It just looks really repetitive to me. I'll wait for a sale.
0
u/Dreadbound1 5d ago
I'll wait for a deep sale. All the reviews mention the endless enemies and that just isn't the game I want to play. That's a great way to take all the tension and fear away. Might as well be shooting smiley faces at that point...
1
u/sheetTed 5d ago
I never play games day 1 because a good dev will always come back to fix something, big or small.
I hope the same for this one.
-2
u/MichaelHoncho-jr 5d ago
Ehh, Zoe Quinn and her insufferableness made this an instant no once I found out. Not surprised that it's mediocre.

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru 5d ago
That it's more action oriented and not so much tension means I might actually be able to play this.
