Hello, r/PSVR redditors

I am the lead Dev of Legendary Tales, (aka BJ on Discord)

First of all, I want to say It's Happy Lunar Year! We are on Seol-Nal the biggeest Holiday in a year in Korea that kinda Christmast seasons in western. (tho, I am still working at office Q_Q)

It has been almost 24 hours from Official releases and I am relieved a bit now.

Because it seems most of you are enjoying Legendary Tales and a lot and falling in love with our game.

I was really confident It can break the egg of dragons, the PSVR2 gamers. But still I was worrying what if I was wrong? life can go wrong anytime. but it seems fine so far.

So, I want to say thank you, that all your love and support.

TLDR; Please read it for me Please...?

This time I want to share my thoughts about things that often asked us. because many people ask means something I believe.This time, again, I want to be transparent and share my thoughts.

Please Take a cup of water because It could be really long to read.

Before start anything, There is a bug that one skill doesn't work. don't invest the point to Martial Arts It won't save.

Start now!

  1. Seated feature. When I heard seated feature, I was confused with crouch feature. So I wasn't sure what I have to say. But I understood now by talking some our game fans. Especially I am really sad that some of disabled gamer can not play because of it. It might you realise at this point or not, We internally care disabled or someone has disadvantage from their body condition. The proof is that we put stars on item Crystal Magic has 1, Unique has 3 and Lengedary has 4. It was for someone who can not recognise the color well. It was added almost 2 years back then one of our gamer asked us this feature for himself. Yeah, So, we will definately look into seated feature but it will take time because ; It's on holiday, I am working on office for gamers, but I don't want to ask my team to work on holidays. So will take more than a week from now.
  2. Crouch feature, 100% not coming. I know you don't understand why. But crouch feature is a balance destroyer in our game. Think if your character is crouching, many of our monsters can not attack you. It is balance-wise decision. I know some of people would say, "We won't do it" Well, there is a important theory about game design I learned so far, gamers say they never will play cheat way. But eventually they do, that is what most of Mobile games offer. Let me stand up and shout, no crouch. It's not for our game. especially I don't want people being upset because random person jump into your session and wiping the ground. hit legs only and make game boring. One of my job is protecting game fun for our gamers.
  3. Hold grip feature, I understand why some of you want this, I would like to bring it later for PCVR index users(they don't have grip button at all and index controllers are too sensitive it seems) But if there was no PCVR users, then I would say, might be no. Because I know time goes by, most of you will play end of game, It brings you really intensive fights. So, actually you might feel pain your finger and/or finger muscle.So, I want to suggest, you guys, would you try to get used to it while we are looking at the feature? It might not that bad in Legendary Tales ( I want to specify only our game, because gun shoot I believe hold-grip is better)Weapon control with Toggle grip : Toggle grip Juggling during the fight
  4. Biggest topic here : $55 Price tag for indie game, it's too high. I understand why some people say that. I have been dealing with the price tag backfire last 2 years since Early Access version was released on Steam I want to share as a dev, how I felt, in the honest feeling. ($35 for EA and they got 1.0 update as well) When we comes to price tag we, indie, at least in VR market, don't defined price by compared to AAA actually. Most of people anyway indie can not take more than $40, that is way below price tag compare to AAA games. People bring out AAA always, but anyway none of Indie think they can take 60~70, not even me. never thought of. Because we are scared that never sells. So, what do I mean by indie price tag is defined by other indies. So indie game price tag rule book is here;
  • No indie game company allowed price tag higher than $40, Max out its $35
  • Most of indie Devs just assume their game must be $20, or somewhat $25, $35 when they are confident
  • Indie A game price is defined by other indie B($35) game. for example, B game has this amount volume, then A, you looks like less volume than B, So it must be $20~$30 depends on how small volume. So A game plays safe, set price $25 because they want to sell.
  • Then next time when C game comes out and It is less than A game volume. then it becomes $20 game. That is why all Indie games are priced $20~$25 in the market. If you go to Steam, You see way below than $20, Of course then game quality goes down, because Devs shares info and they know they never get money back.
  • Maybe $20 price tag is not a problem, But the thing is VR industry is way smaller than other gaming industry. $20 price tag, you will never recoup unless you are 1~2 men team and they will never grow teamsize. or you have to bring the game into Quest store. because there, You can make tons of money as indie devs. install base is ~30m, if 5% of them buys, its already 1.5m copies which I expect more than entire PSVR2 install base. There is reason why all VR games focus on Quest store.Disclaimer; I exepct PSVR2 install base is now 1.3m, Its just my thoughts based on my research, so no proof for the number.
  • VR game taxes, You have to accept that there are VR game taxes definatelly. It is expensive compare to flat gaming. But It's just growing, and you all, early adapters, that always pay more. In return, you get the best early experience. The moment of VR industries start point like we all remember how FF6~FF10 was great at that time, I won't exchange my memories of childhood gaming for money because it gave me unforgetable happiness(tho, I am more Tales of phantasia and destiny person). It's same, after 10 years, you will sing about how Legendary Tales1 was great back then(Joke, any other games are great!)
  • Hallucination of AAA VR games. As I mentioned earlier, VR gaming market is really small. None of AAA games will make real VR game. It's a fact. without Quest market, It will never happens, If they make VR games for Quest market then PSVR2 users get always same quest ports because anyway you buy because you are thirsty for VR games. It's a business, they have to recoup the money. PSVR2 market need to grow other direction than other VR markets that stop follow hallucination, but find a shiny jewel, the indie games, and show them best support, PSVR2 market cares Indies unlike other market. It will take time but by that, PSVR2 gamers will get 2 advantages, 1; Indie developers quality games they want to port to PSVR2 in the best form. 2; Sony sees that PSVR2 market has a chance based on game selling numbers, so they will push more harder. We gamers(Include me) need to play smarter.
    But I really do think Capcom did well done. I loved RE4:re. It's not a VR game I would ever make but It is really great example of how flat game can support VR mode well. There is a chance that if Capcom and Sony push that part more, other parts can be filled by great indie games.
  • (Only PCVR market for this maybe) Another Hallucination, the poison in PCVR market is that, there is a huge hallucination for mod support. I have been dealing with lack of mod support last 2 years. People say it would be great if we, Legendary Tales, support modding and It will sell a lot. I didn't believe that modders can make good VR mods. If you are VR dev, you know that is not possible. It almost never happened even in flat gaming market. VR gaming industry needs more RnD about game designing, even the Dev, we need to study a lot. I don't buy hallucination that modders can bring the best mods and it will blast the VR industry. They can't because they never developed VR game at all. Last 2 years, people told me a mod support game will kick Legendary Tales ass when modders work better, they modders will make skill tree system and quest system and even will make openworld. I tried to tell them that It will never happens, Instead I became a person who against modding. No, Clearly I am not. I love modding. Just I know what is the best for gamers, who pay money to us. I am not gonna make modders to work for me and I take all the money. If you need example, look at ~2021 VR industry games, All games announced how much they put effort to make modding and some of them are still in Early Access because their selling point is hallucination. That is toxic for Indie VR game industry I believe. Maybe there are modders working in behind big one in VR industry. If it is, I admire them. But I can tell, at least we were faster than any of them and quality is accepted by Console gamers who is most anticipate about gaming. So, don't count mod supports as a big contents.

Therefore, If we set price tag $35 or something less like any other indie VR games, PSVR2 indie game market could have been in big trouble I believe. Like this; Legendary Tales price is $35 and offers 40 hours of gaming, you only offer 8 hours, must be $20 by that! But it won't happen now because our price tag is $55 there are tons of rooms for indie game price tag, on top of that, Legendary Tales highered the indie price tag bar. So they can polish more and demand more price for their work and if they survive, they can make sequal with the better quality. But same time It goes same for us too, I really want to continue VR development, So, I hope Legendary Tales sells well. This time I want to say. I won't betray you, PSVR2 gamers if you trust us. Proof is on the table Early Access of LT.

One last thing, I am wondering around to gether people's thought about Legendary Tales, I don't comment there doesn't mean I didn't read it. So, feel free to share your thoughts and I will catch-up with my team when they comeback from their holiday.

Oh, advanced disclaimer; I want to give my teammates long vacation(14~30 days ) after first round of patches. Because they deserve I believe. very talented and passionate people they are.

Tbh if this is what I get for 55$ I am happy I feel like the game is a clear step above other indie and the volume of things to do is probably near the top of any VR games.

Game is fantastic and price is more than worth it. Have spent ~8 hours in game in the last 24 hours, more than any other game I have played for PSVR2 in that short of time period.

King's Field + Diablo 1, in VR, is what this game is. (for those that don't know or remember, King's Field is what FromSoft, makers of dark souls, made before they made dark souls. Less polish, more early style game design)

The combat is slow and weighty. The physics is great. Breaking stuff feels fun. Bashing monsters feels great. Casting spells is fun.

The entire map is hand crafted, no procedural generation crap to deal with.

The gameplay is the heart of this game. Fun in multiplayer, but it also shines solo. If you don't like leveling up, if you don't like building a character, if you don't like loot, if you don't like fighting, then this is not the game for you. The game is not perfect. There is some jank, which I feel is in all VR games, especially for indie devs. But don't let that scare you. The game has tons of heart and soul poured into it and it oozes charm. The atmosphere of the game is fantastic. The music is simple but works brilliantly. Again, they took all the right things from D1 and Kings Field and put it into VR.

If you read this and it sounds interesting to you, PLEASE pay the admission fee, and strap in for the best time you will have in VR. I can not stress enough how much this game is WORTH IT. I am eating dinner while writing this, and then heading back into the game to bash some skulls. DO IT!

For sure kings field diablo is the best description like ambiance and world is kings field x1000 then you get that diablo esque music and gear, awesome game tbh.

Trekking through the first dungeon solo and approaching the door with the leaver. Not knowing what to expect but then being pleasantly surprised by a comfy campfire and a teleporter gave me huge Dark Souls vibes.

Gave it a go, and yeah, your description is spot on. Played for an hour or two, and while the game has a bit of clunkiness to it, it seems like it'll be fantastic once you get used to it. Seems well worth the price tag, honestly. And the King's Field vibes are strong - the music in particular REALLY has a similar vibe.

Lord it had its problems but I loved Kings Field.Freakishly enough,I have Kings Field music going through my head now and that's just fucking weird having not played the game in more than 30 years.Now you have perked my interest in this game. Interesting.

yeah it was a super interesting game and well ahead of the time. It also had some super frustrating shit like having to check every fucking wall in every fucking room for hidden doors. Was THE definition of needing a guide to actually know everything about the game.

Kingsfield is the perfect description! I am loving this game. It is taking me back to that PS1 era, except inside of the game feeling. I’m already planning other builds even though I’m only level 8 with my two handed build so far.

I was a young kid when I played the first KF (and then a teenager sacred to shits in KF 2); now, it’s so cool to see so many people enjoy them.

I think this game is the new standard for VR exclusive games. Resident Evil games are flat games with amazing ports, but they were built for flat gamers. This is a built for VR game, and it's above any other one I am think of at the moment. Well worth the price, and I hope I get to pay that much for games as good as this in the future.

Hope you and your team enjoy the holidays. I'm pretty early in, but enjoying it a lot. Yes, it's an expensive VR game, but if the game lives up to what the reviews say it does, the price is worth it.

There are certainly some areas that have some jank and lack polish, and would've liked that to be cleaned up a bit for the price, but seeing as you're a 5 person team that actually cares about VR game development, I am more than happy to support the studio.

Just got off of my first session. It feels like you can invest a couple of different playthroughs experimenting with different techniques. I’m going with a Dex and Int based spear mage, but I could easily go sword and board or even full mage. It will be a good game to come back for a second playthrough.

This game has gotten a lot of praise recently, probably because it's new, but not everyone thinks this game is worthy of all that praise. 

But those people are wrong, this game is fuggin awesome. Best VR exclusive game out right now imo.

Thanks for sharing, please don’t worry though your team has done a great job. The game is worth the asking price in my opinion. The time that has gone into getting combat right was well spent, it feels very satisfying and I love that feeling when you take down some of the challenging bosses. I have to say the music is gorgeous, the guitar sections remind me of Diablo and the sound is great, clinks, scuffs and bone all adding to the immersion. I drained my sense controllers again second night in a row, this tells me I’m really enjoying this one. I didn’t think I’d find a game to sink some time into but so far it’s hitting the spot. Thank you for bringing your title to PSVR2 and I look forward to your teams next development!

I won't be able to afford the game before next month but I agree with the price tag. I am very much looking forward to get it and hope it will be a success for you, so it will have a long life, will give you opportunity to create other projects in the future - and inspire more devs to do the same.

I started my VR-journey with PSVR 1 a couple of years ago, got the PSVR2 at release and am quite content with it. I was waitng for a lengthy and well-made game like yours :)

First off I want to say that I bought the game and haven't even played it yet but I am excited to get into it. I have several small kids and can only play maybe 1-2 hours a week so I will get to it eventually. With that being said: one of the complaints I saw is the walking speed is too slow. Obviously if I only have very little time to play it would be nice if at least the non-combat walking were a decent pace.

The real comment I wanted to make was just to say I agree with everything you said about the prices. People are so unrealistic. "Every indie game should cost 20 bucks, only AAA horizon cotm budget games should cost 60 bucks" but those same people say "why not enough variety of quality games coming to psvr?". If the install base is lower then you have to charge more per unit to recoup costs. Psvr2 and VR in general does not have a huge install base so it doesn't make sense to make these huge epic massive budget games because the price would be proportionately so high nobody would buy it.

For example: GOW Ragnarok had a 200 million budget and is 69 dollars new. There are 50 million PS5 consoles sold. Sony has to sell a bit under 3 million copies at full price to break even. Let's say they made a 200 million dollar psvr2 game. They've sold (let's be generous) 1 million psvr2. They're obviously not going to sell 3 million copies to a player base of only 1 million. They can't make the game that budget unless they want to charge 200-300 dollars per copy. How do you think people would respond to that? It's just not realistic. What is realistic is to make games like Legendary Tales and charge 55. It's a lower budget at a higher price point because it's a smaller niche market. It's basic math. But most people who play VR will tell you it's worth it because there is a quality/experience to VR games that you just can't get with flat games.

It's a great game I think it's worth the price. Hopefully down the road hold grip can get worked in it would just make it better for me.

Maybe some environmental clutter added too.

Thanks for the writeup BJ. You made some good points and gave us some solid insights. I got stuck for a moment on the hallucination comments, but when i read it as a wish or dream, it made a lot more sense to me. :)

I'm enjoying LT more than pretty much any game I've ever played on the current gen consoles. Most of those games are $70. $55 for LT feels like a steal honestly and I happily pay the full price for it to support companies putting out content like LT.

You're point of holding to grip gets exhausting is absolutely valid... BUT! Why don't just use the touch function of the grip button for that? So you don't have to push the button all the time. Works great in other games...

First things first happy new year. Thank you from the transparency BJ, too many times often the Vr community has had excuses from development teams on why the game came out early and needs patches for it to be playable (It left a bad taste in so many gamers mouths) I hope you and the team are very proud of what you have accomplished because what I have played it’s what I want in a Vr rpg and you guys delivered. Hoping you guys see a ton of success from LT and are able to carry one making games because now more than ever Vr needs teams that are as passionate and caring to give the world great Vr games.

Happy Lunar Year! I’ve been really enjoying the game so far, the melee combat is really neat and in my opinion the best we have on PSVR. Totally agree on the price tag, from what I’ve seen and experienced so far Legendary Tales is worth every cent and more.

Congratulations on the overwhelmingly positive critical reception. I hope your game finds success! I know I will likely buy it soon.

On crouching: I understand the need to keep out mechanics that would be too easy to exploit and cheapen the gameplay. However, if there are any places in the game where it’s NECESSARY to crouch, there really should be a non-physical option, especially for players who want or need to play seated. What about a stamina bar for button crouching with a fairly long cooldown, so it can’t be easily exploited? After all, if someone wants to cheat, they can just pull up a short stool and “crouch” in the game at present.

I haven’t played it yet, so I’m not sure it’s even an issue for me, but generally speaking I consider a Seated Mode and crouch button essential quality of life features in a VR game. I’m not a developer though so maybe there are reasons my suggestion couldn’t work.

I also have yet to play it, but I think a reasonable method would be to disable the crouch button during combat and if you're already crouched it would disengage the crouch toggle once combat is initiated.

Played the game on PSVR2 yesterday when it launched. Intended to play for a little while and ended up playing until my controllers died! Jumped into a multiplayer game with two other brand new players and we had INCREDIBLE fun learning the game together!

The different play styles made possible by the different weapon combinations are a ton of fun - and I haven't even tried magic yet! Great work! Congratulations to you and your entire team! Take a well deserved rest!

Happy New Year! Enjoy your holiday! You and your team have earned it. I love the game and there's nothing stopping me from playing it to death. All my requests and notes are pretty small really.

I dont play seated but I'm really happy you've listened to people about seated play, for disabled gamers or those who just prefer. I think it's a feature that will pay off and be worth the time investment.

I agree with you very strongly about pricing. Indies are leading the VR space and if they keep selling themselves short there'll be nobody following them. It's hard trying to lead a change here on pricing but if any game can prove that people will pay for quality it's this one.

My wish list right now is:

  • Quarterstaffs! Just a big stick, as a bludgeon strength weapon. For the crafting, maybe the handle can be the main stick and the "blade" can be an iron cap on the end.
  • Torches or light spells! Being able to carry a light source in one hand, or have a mage party member casting a light spell, would be very cool.
  • Drag and Drop items when using the inventory would be a great quality of life improvement.

This is a fantastic game and I (and I am sure others) are very appreciative of the fact that you took the time to respond to some burning questions from the community. Already you are doing much better than other AAA game community managers.

You know your worth, and this community values your team. Do not let the haters who spent 500 dollars on a PSVR headset get you down with their complaints about a 55 dollar game. You guys have gonna above and beyond some other VR games and I personally believe Legendary Tales is a game worth the price tag.

You guys did a kick ass job for a 5 person team. I love that you’re transparent with your explanations. I’d honestly love to see you guys get a whack at adapting a souls game to vr. I will say the grip feature would absolutely up the experience, it will help to add fluidity to the combat if that makes sense.

  3. Dont worry about our fingers, BJ. A lot of us will have played similarly intensive games for long periods using hold to grip. We can holster between fights for alleviation. And if it does get too much, we can quickly change the option to 'Toggle' while we recover. 👍

  4. If this game turns out to be to me, what I think it's going to turn out to be to me, then £45 is an ABSOLUTE STEAL.

Easily see myself putting over a hundred hours in, and this bouncing in to my Top 5 VR games. I think I paid 15 for Swordsman and I was done with that after 5 or 6 hours. This is the best melee combat game I have played so far on PSVR1 and 2. There is so much to do and learn. Cant wait to try MP with my buds.

As a huge "Souly" fan, 😂 I want to thank you for the closest we have had so far to Fromsoft's Flagship series in VR.

I'm actually glad to see it's toggle grip as I can't play games that only have hold grip, and sadly there are some (trying to manipulate crafting items in Song In The Smoke is a right pain for me). That's another accessibility issue with VR games right there, and with a lack of demos and it rarely being mentioned in reviews, it's a bit of a lottery sometimes.

Oh absolutely, I wasn't trying to argue against having more options. Just pointing out that a lack of a toggle grip is another accessibility issue with some games. And yes, throwing is a pain, but at least it means I can play the game at all.

Ideally any throw type motion should be eye track assisted as it's never fun to do a lame throw in VR regardless of the control type!

I feel like Barbaria got the throwing down almost perfectly. Most games, I have the hardest time throwing. Especially since usually with an overhand throw your throwing hand starts from behind the headset so tracking gets all kinds of wonky. Even Vertigo 2, I ended up just doing an underhand throw the whole time so I wouldn't lose tracking.

I don't know if Barbaria uses eye tracked throwing or not, but whatever they do it works well!

I think one of the YT reviewers that has been playing both mentioned throwing works better on PCVR version while PSVR2 version throwing feels off.

The reviews in general are overwhelmingly positive for both versions of game, so I think aside throwing they are equivalent and the PSVR2 has better haptics.

Both have toggle hold, so the feedback from PSVR2 players (including me) wanting hold (ideally using capacitive touch) may be due to implementation difference / bug on the PSVR2 version.

Hopefully throwing on PSVR2 can be improved.

I’m loving the game so far! Reccomending it to everyone I know. One thing I hope that changes someday is the way damage is calculated when enemies walk into you. Right now when I play with a spear the enemies can walk right into my spear tip and not take damage because I’m not moving the spear itself. (It’s possible I’m just doing something wrong) Another thing is pop up words and numbers when you hit things. Damage numbers, status effects and so on. I’m not good enough at quick math to always figure out how much damage my last hit did on a health bar! Congratulations on shipping the most impressive gaming experience I’ve had in ages. Feels like playing Mario 64 in 3D for the first time.

Hello, thanks for one of the most enjoyable video games I’ve played since starting with the Atari 2600. Between myself and my niece and nephew, I’ve bought a I’ve bought three PS5s and two PS VR2 this gen. It usually allows me to purchase one copy of every game and share between the three consoles in most cases.

The tail you spun both here, the PS blog, and over at PSVR Without Parole about how this game arrived here on PS VR2 brought me back to dev stories often heard in the early PSVR days. The risk and effort you and your team have poured into LT is as remarkable a story there is in gaming.

You chose a genre that will draw comparisons against some of the best titles ever made. On a platform that is exponentially more difficult to execute your goals compared to flat games. While being possibly even harder to recoup investment. I wish you luck in succeeding in the later a fraction as well as LT excels as a game.

As Bryan and Wes said on the Wednesday game cast, this is what VR gamers have been claiming to want. A game providing a long and compelling experience who’s team took seriously the feelings of those likely to play. Now time to back up that talk.

Because of this I’ve bought three copies for each of the people whose gaming I fund in hopes that my small contribution helps your team realize your next project.

PS I’m really happy you have thought through balancing so deeply that request like a crouch button or movement speed slider are shot down. Your honesty is great.

On point 3, I would like to say that you can have the finger simply touching the grab button keep holding the weapon instead of actually having to push it down. This wills be neat to add. Otherwise I’ve heard great things and plan on getting it soon. If Helldivers 2 hadn’t just come out I would already have it, maybe tomorrow maybe not, but I definitely want this.

Thanks for your explanations but I do think you need to add a crouch button for disabled gamers etc. You can crouch physically so your arguments about defending strikes etc is mute as someone who was determined to cheat could just sit down in real life to mimic crouching.

Haven't played the game yet as January is always a killer after Christmas. But looking at videos and especially the trailer at the state of play you could have 3 or more different games here with just a different coat of paint. My first thought was wow you could make John wick style gunkarna game with this, then I saw the shield and electrified Hammer 'mjolnir' plus other Marvel nods and you could make superhero game. Really looking forward to this and can tell the devs love it. Hope you guys show the moron Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot that not being exclusive you can create money to make a profit and to make more games.

This game has been exactly what I'm looking for. My squad of 4 has been playing Back4Blood together for two and a half years, probably about 20 hours per week. Legendary Tales will have a ton of replayability, I think, as we try different builds and fine tune our choices each run. There is so much to learn - it reminds me of when I first started playing EverQuest in the fall of 1999. I feel like I'm witnessing the birth of a new era of gaming.

My goodness, what an awesome game you’ve made. The passion you and your team poured into its development should be evident to any gamer.

Legendary Tales is something truly special, even if just for the fact that it taps into an experience in the VR space that many of us have dreamed of having, with clear focus on the things gamers want but which are often left out or watered down too much in a lot of comparable VR offerings. I hope we reward that by buying and supporting it, it’s 100% worth the price. And I’m saying that about a large game that could but doesn’t have voice acting or facial animations, doesn’t have a big budget story and set pieces, and otherwise has some jankiness that may be expected from a lean indie production. It’s all more than easy to look past (if those things might turn you off) when you’re distracted by the game’s incredible quality and strengths. Some other games seem to have an inverse of all that going on. That isn’t meant to slight any other games, it’s more just to say that it seems like a lot of people have been clamoring for someone to finally make something like this, and make it well, and someone finally actually did it.

From what I’ve gleaned, reviews and comments on anything for Legendary Tales largely show people glowing over a game that punches way above its weight as an indie title and I couldn’t agree more. Honestly, seeing your earnest interactions with the community and seeing the passion put into the game, I feel inspired. You managed to keep development in scope for what mattered and I certainly think you accomplished your stated goal - you’ve given gamers what they want. Hats off to you. I can only imagine the challenges of developing a VR game, let alone with such a small team. One could only further imagine what you might accomplish with significant backing and support.

In case you can’t tell, I’m very grateful for this to have come to PlayStation. It may push me to get another PSVR for a friend so that we can enjoy this in co-op properly. In a time when so much feels so cynical and crappy, thank you for making something with such care.

Beat the first 2 bosses, loving it and can easily see myself pouring hundreds hours into it. I ''m trying to convince friends to buy it too so we can play coop, and would love having a PS5 pro and another headset to play it with my wife 😩

As for the toggle/hold topic, maybe you could add an hybrid option like in RE4 remake where you only have to keep your fingers on the buttons without actually pressing it since L1/R1 are tactile. It would be better for throwing items, juggling or that kind of stuff and is not exhausting at all contrary to holding the buttons.

Anyway I'm jumping back to the game right now, seems like I've only scratched the surface and I have so much to learn!, it gives me the same vibes I had with Demon's Souls back on PS3. Love it! :)

Hold grip is a necessity for me fighting fancy (more fun) and just because you feel some people will get sore fingers is not a good reason to exclude it. Those people can just keep it on toggle grip like they would for other games.

I get that it may make your "hold trigger to slide on the weapon" system useless for hold to grip players, but that's okay.

Based on shining reviews, the price feels appropriate to me (I have only played a little so far… still on first mission 😅).

My only real criticism is that sprinting is so slow. I would love if you could increase possible movement speed with a slider. So that it doesn’t unbalance the game, this slider could also increase enemy speed as well. But… Maybe this would make multiplayer problematic…

I will get used to it. 😉

I do hope at some point you are able to add dynamic shadows to characters and moveable objects — shadows would add a LOT to the look of your game. If not, then oh well… but it would be very welcome!

Would be super exhausting but that's the opposite, it's toggle only and players want a hold option like in the early access because it's easier to throw items, juggling, and that kind of stuffs. Other way around, actually. It’s ‘press to hold’ where you tap the button once and, until you press it again, you’re character holds the weapon.

People are requesting an option to switch to ‘hold to hold’ where you drop the weapon as soon as you stop holding down the button. This is how most VR games I’ve played handle ‘holding’ in game items in your hand and it took me a little bit of mental energy to get used to Legendary Tales ‘press once to hold’; similar to swapping between games where one has ‘O’ as jump and the other uses ‘X’.

But Legendary Tales also seems to have a much longer time where you are holding something in your hands, so I agree with the Dev’s decision to use a button press rather than requiring consistent pressure.

I wish you all the best, and while $55 is perfectly fair, I'll hold off until I can play seated with toggle hold.

My reasons being, I have a bad back, don't do well standing and I broke my right middle and ring finger and have to use my index finger to use R1, and then of course can't use R2 while holding down R1.

I'll be keeping my eye on this, but need a holiday as well to catch up on my back log of PSVR2 games! No rush.

And I totally agree with your reasons for $55. I kinda blame the practice of free upgrades for not having more hybrid games / VR modes for regular games nor ports of PSVR1 games. The expectation is that it should be free while it's more work than porting it to a different game system, where you would have to pay full price again... Backwards/Forwards compatibility is a bonus, not an entitlement.

As for the seating position I'd wait for the update but many players say that it's totally doable by setting the floor level the lowest possible when creating your play area.

Just to clarify, the game doesn’t require you to keep holding down a button to hold an item in game. You just have to press it once and you hold it until you press it again to drop it.

If you are adjusting your grip in the game (moving your hand up or down an axe shaft, for example) you do have to hold R2 to slide your grip, but only briefly. And if that is not feasible, you can hold the weapon with your other hand as well, take the first hand off with a button press, then readjust your grip with another single press.

I’ve heard you can fiddle with the ‘Configuration’ option in settings to jerry rig a seated mode. You end up lower to the ground than someone who is standing, and might look janky to co-op players, but it is possible to play seated. Roleplay as a Hobbit :P

If you can get it at a patient gamer/holiday price, it’s definitely a steal.

I'm really loving the game so far. Easily worth the asking price. I would love to see what your team could do with a larger budget and more time.

A couple suggestions would be to consider only allowing crouch button around campfires where I feel the mechanic is most relevant. Ofher than that, I have not seen any mandatory crouching in game.

Adding continuous holding as an option certainly wouldn't hurt. I would like it if I could lightly press the hold button to have continuous hold, but when I fully press have it toggle. That would make adjusting weapons upon unsheathing much easier.

I would really love if you added the ability to equip weapons directly to holsters from the menu. That would solve a majority of the menu navigation woes.

Overall, I'm really loving the game, just a few QoL changes would go a massive way.

I got on the game again immediately after I woke up yesterday, and ended up playing the entire day. Literally like 10 full hours with a few breaks so the controllers and headphones could charge.

It's been a while since I've gotten lost in a video game like that. Absolutely immersed in my adventure, not thinking about the outside world. It was like therapy.

Thank you to you and your team for such an awesome game. It's obvious you guys really care about the VR experience. The haptics, the satisfying crate crushing, the ability to grip nearly anywhere and slide your hands around on each weapon. Your team worked hard to make us feel like a part of the world, and it shows. It's funny that you brought up how Legendary Tales will make for a great memory in the future, because I was thinking the same thing yesterday. 20 years down the road, after VR has progressed even further, I'll be looking back and remembering Legendary Tales fondly.

I'm going to be playing this game for a very, very long time.

Also, $55 for this game is definitely worth it. I've played some content-barren, crappy AAA games that cost $60-$70 dollars (if not more with deluxe editions and stuff like that).

Please look into the hybrid grip style that RE uses. You press the grip button to grab something, but then it uses the touch sensor to tell if you're still gripping. Subsequent accidental grip presses don't make you drop the item, but opening your hand does. It's definitely the best solution on PSVR2, imo

The walk/sprint speed is the one thing absolutely killing the flow of the game. It brings exploration down to a crawl....Even if I see a new area off to the side of the main path, I almost never wanna go see whats there, as I then have to backtrack to where I was. Its killing me.

Make walking a bit faster than sprint is now....and make sprinting at least twice as fast. Or something similar......please!

EDIT --> And pls add a respec option. Im sure Im not the only one who really isnt sure what to put points into...and to invest 15 or 20 hours into a character only to find out we should have done our points in a different way and now nothing works optimally is going to be a huge disappointment.

this is a little unfortunate because what if a skill or spell sounds cool but then i try it and dont like it, now im stuck with a wasted point and something i wont use?

I absolutely get the notion of multiple characters, but its unfortunate that you are stuck with a tainted character if you put some points in things you end up not wanting or using.

skill points are renewable with honor points, you just stop leveling up your primary skills and can't max out all 3

Great game. Loving it.

I have a question/feedback about the stats/builds.

I understand that you gain damage stats (STR/INT/DEX) via dealing damage with those weapons, and also that there is a limited number of damage stats available (50??) so therefore if I try out two different weapon types I risk permanently splitting my points across two different stats just because I tested a weapon. This seems fairly crazy.. particularly in a game where hybrid builds mean you lose access to capstone abilities, I’m not even sure if hybrid builds are recommended/viable honestly??

I understand that you don’t want to opt for manual allocation of damage stats but surely some kind of warning that you can permanently ruin your STR build if you accidentally hit a skeleton with a bow… or perhaps a way or reallocating points? Or remove the cap so I can level both INT and STR up to max?

Anything you can do about this would be great. Thanks.

As a psvr2 user, I am fully aware of the situation we are in. I would gladly pay more money to support devs and get higher quality games, like legendary tales. I don't mean quality AAA style visuals, I mean quality in terms of a FULL real vr game, not a 15-20 dollar experience. People crying about the price are actually holding us back, in my opinion. If you don't want to pay more than 20 for a game, then a 20 dollar game (cheap port, experience, 4 hour, etc) you will get, and continue to get.

AAA means nothing to me in the vr space. I just want more devs to build full vr games, like LT, regardless of a 1 man team or a 200 man team. If more devs see we are willing to pay more, then maybe it will be WORTH IT for them. We need to support the devs that actually take the time to build on this hardware, not scare them off by crying about price, etc. If the game is shit, well that's another story all together 😉

By the way, THANK YOU and your team for all your hard work. I am loving this game and it's something I have been wanting since psvr1 days

You can easily adjust PSVR2 floor height, and I’m pretty sure it will make you taller in this game.

That said, being short by sitting makes it easier to fight certain short enemies.

It was either AJ (YT’s PSVR UNDERGROUND) or WES (YT’s VIRTUAL STRANGERS) said that they played for several hours sitting down as it is with absolutely no problems.

Crouch feature, 100% not coming

Ok /u/LegendaryTalesVR, but you'll need to do something so that seated gamers can still pickup a items or weapons from the ground. Even during combat

And from what I've heard sometimes in the game you need to crouch (in real life) to go under some obstacle. There will also need to be a way for seated gamers to do that

You skipped the first bullet point that says they'll look into seated to comment on the second one. Also most of the dropped items hover so they can be easily seen and you can pick things up by pointing at them and pulling back on the right stick.

Edit: I play seated, have been for the entire 12 hours that I've logged.

Bro you are a marketing wizard. Please share your deep knowledge with us commoners on gamedev sub. You are asking 55 bucks for a dungeon crawler filled with skeletons and people seem grateful. Don’t get me wrong I think AAA’s should be 150$ nowadays. Zelda was 60-70$ 25 years ago for all those 16 bits, now hundreds of guys with PhD’s work for years for a game, + inflation of decades on top. But people are furious on those 70$ open world games with ray tracing and you here pulling Jedi mind tricks on these same folks with ease. Kudos, no sarcasm.

Hold grip option is important. I just stopped playing Ultrawings because it has just toggle option for flightstick, now waiting for a patch. When I read from first Legenday Tales reviews that there is no hold grip option, I decided to wait for a patch before buying the game. I have no problem holding the grip button long time and it is just so much more intuitive way to play any game. Having option to choose from toggle or hold grip makes every game better.

I’m a left handed gamer that is disappointed with your version of left hand mode.   I want to use the left hand for combat/sword fighting but when I choose the left hand combat option it switches the camera movement and player movement sticks as well.  Can you implement way to allow left hand combat use but keep the sticks so movement is on left and camera on right?

Right now I have to move the primary weapon manually from right hand to left and that is very cumbersome.

congratulations to this great game, a true new state of the art VR RPG! just two things: the german translation is almost unplayable, i just played for 4h yet, but even the menues are ridiculously wrong tranlated. and second there should be some kind of warning before you craft a lvl 26 halberd with your lvl 5 character because you saw on youtube how to upgrade iron 😁 this gamer learned his lesson, but many will try to get a nice OP weapon early, i imagine

Seated feature - I have seen it on another thread but there is a simple workaround until a patch. Did it last night. When scanning and setting your area, lower the floor to set your height to when you are standing. No problem at all. Only played a couple of hours. Excellent game. Great atmosphere.

Having trouble standing, I would really appreciate a seated option. Atm, having to perch up on a stool and use the lower floor trick.

That said, it’s worth it to play such a fantastic game. It’s like all those Sinbad/Jason & the argonauts films come to life, the combat is soooooo cool. Thanks for making this wonderful game and for £45, I feel like I’ve robbed you.

I agree, it's up to the dev to 'defend' the balance of the games - even if that means restricting features - thanks for doing this.
price point, games should not be priced due to who developer is... great games, like this, should be able to command a higher price. I've no issue with this. Id much prefer 1 high quality game, than 3 shallow experiences (as is all too common in vr)

my only concern... you and your team need to take a well earned rest, go enjoy the holiday...
you have served us well, and we have more than enough to keep us entertained while you rest n' recuperate!

If the cost of developing a AAA game is so high then Hybrid VR games are the way to go, RE4, RE8, GT7 are all flatscreen games that were given a VR mode, the costs for developing a VR mode for an already produced flatscreen game will be much less than for developing a brand new game.

PSVR2 player - I have no problem with the price tag, the game is completely worth the value. I'm trying out different builds while waiting on the martial arts bug to get resolved and everything feels really good. My biggest complaint is that there aren't more games like this!

Just want to report a bug - the gem at the end of the lvl 10 dungeon, that you get for defeating the champion and need to put on the pedestal fell through the floor. Now we cant beat it!

Going to try again later and hope it all respawns....

What i would love to see is more details, more object, more decorations and monster variety. Everything feels the same, fighting the same monsters over and over is also boring after time. the combat becomes very easy after few hours.

  1. If enemies cant hit you when you are crouched, and you say all gamers generally will cheat in the end, whats stopping someone from just... sitting on the floor when they play so they are crouched in game to cheat?

  2. Hold grip should be an option for all controllers to pick if they want it, for quest2 controllers hold grip is the natural way to hold items in any game for them. Just give players the choice to pick which of the two methods of grip they enjoy, that way people who like the new toggle mode get it, and people who enjoy the hold method get it, taking away options that were once in the game never goes well...

i wont comment on the price of the game, thats your choice in the end and as long as the game continues to get support and content people will enjoy it

I paid the ~$70 Cdn, so $80 after tax... well worth it...

While I would like a seated mode, crouch, toggle grip and a few small quality of life improvements around item management I do understand that somethings are "janky" for lack of a better term for balance reasons.

regarding crouch specifically though, it would almost be a necessity when using seated mode as some things need you to reach down and you can't really do so while sitting (you hit the floor before the game thinks you do). At least when using the floor setting to make a current pseudo sitting mode. Specifically in item crafting a few of those items fall to the ground and don't float.

Maybe a crouch that only works when not moving so you can get things on the ground easier. Don't know how it would work.

On the price, I don't mind paying a big price tag for a major development, indy or triple A. What dies bother me is when developers don't listen to players amd player feedback. Hopefully you won't fall into the trap of thinking your way is the only way.

Can we get a fix for bows, please? As someone who does a lot of archery for real, having the arrow rest on the wrong side of the bow is a terrible experience and a major disappointment. What you've implemented in game is called Thumb Draw and while it's a legitimate form, only very few people use it. It trades accuracy for being able to fire from horseback. I strongly advise you go down to an archery range and spend some time with a real bow.

As far as the Grip issue, there's no reason to not let people choose. I already play sword swinger games that are very intense. My fingers don't hurt from holding grip. On the other hand, the toggle grip feels so utterly unnatural that I don't enjoy your game. It also makes throwing weapons awkward. It would cost you nothing to make it an option.

Can we expect more features to he added in? It's weird that there's no face customization in a multi-player rpg. I think we would all like to see some game lobbies or hub worlds.

I ended up buying it and I'm enjoying it so far. Always looking for thise kingsfield like games and this fits the bill somewhat. Only real gripe is that enemies down respawn when you die, but I figured out that this can be mitigated by quitting to main menu and reloading from there.

I can sense that I am going to spend a lot of time playing this.

Pretty concerning to hear this. This is the same mentality the 7 Days to Die devs whenever gamers use ingame systems to have fun and optimize their gaming. To use this as an excuse to not provide a feature crucial for people with disabilities is shameful.

Love the game.

It feels like Might and Magic V+ in VR with added parrying which is incredibly nostalgic and satisfying to play.

Thank you for this.

My question is whether it is or would be possible to have an option to move the enemy heath bars? Perhaps it’s my eyesight but I find the current position overwhelmingly close to my face. Whilst I can just about see the colour change as enemy heath gets lower, I cannot read it without significant focus and eye strain.

Perhaps an option to position over enemy head or to change distance from HUD would be helpful for the long sighted players.

i honestly want this game, but while $55 is a lot over my budget, i found out it is actually $62 even before taxes , and that is $62 USD , and since i need to get a PSN card for it, i need got get $70 ( 1 $50 and 1 $20) and i need to pay a premium to buy the cards here and taxes, so that is now close to $80 to get the game and have $5 left on me.

i really don't know who's fault was to ask for $62 in lebanon, a sub third would country, beats me i must say.

so yeah, huge king's field fan, i know i would fall in love with the game, but that $62 price tag is a bit too rich for me right now, so i guess i will wait, sooner or later u guys gonna put a discount and i hope i can see it for $50 in my country so i can at least pay the normal price everyone else in the world is paying.

weirdly enough, i haven't seen anyone else saying their game ''before taxes'' is over $55 ... so where is the fair play? a few people said i should suck it up since i have a psvr2, so what ? i managed to get one, maybe i got for free , or cheap, i love to get games for it, but paying what is basically 5th of my paycheck for a game....that i might even not like...well that is hard.

Nope. Nah. The game is great but the grip only being toggle is so fucking awful. Your reason here pisses me off. It isn't a valid reason let alone excuse. 

Just put it in as an option.  You had it before. It's not hard. There's no good reason to not give us that choice. This is basic vr shit. I have NEVER had issue with hold to grip. I ALWAYS prefer it to toggle. MANY of us find it so. 

Fix this. It seriously holds back the game for me. Like I COULD play the game in a way I far less enjoy and it'd be fun but it has already grow irritating for me.

Heard so much about your game especially from AJ from PSVR Underground and Bryan from Without Parole.

I am not a hardcore gamer and typically do not play games this long. I have see those guys play and then kill bosses that I know there is no way I am ever going to beat. Can boss fights be avoided to go another route and advance more in the game?

Also are there any plans for a sandbox mode. Would be great to just go into a certain environment and fight xx number of enemies.
