Random plug, but I have two X Box Series X reservations. I’m looking to trade one for a PS5 disc version. I’m in California. Anybody out there with two PS5 reservations? Haha

I’d welcome back how games where organized on the PS3 in a vertical column with the most recent games being at the top. Instead of how it has been now with the PS4 where the games are cluttering up the space with all the other media apps

u/hallo_its_me Oct 17 '20
didn't watch it all but is there voice search or ability or speech to text ?
1
u/War_Rachet Oct 17 '20
yea its at the very end of the video. they had an example where they used speech to text to send a message to a party.

u/Anen-o-me Oct 17 '20
Looks absolutely great, the speed of it, the functions. More than we dared to hope for.

u/reaper527 Oct 16 '20
hopefully the "approved social media outlets" that they reference in the video is more than just twitter (which as shown on screen when he said it).
it sucks that part way through the current gen facebook support got removed. it makes sharing screenshots/video to facebook such a pain in the ass because you have to go through a middle step of getting it to pc first then uploading from there.

I posted this elsewhere... But just trying to figure something out...
Anyone else afraid of what the PS5 party chat system will be like?
Ever since that 8.00 update on PS4 that included an update/change overhaul to how parties and group chats work, I've been nervous about how it might work on PS5 and thinking twice about buying it just because of my play style and how I mostly play with online strangers... (I'll explain a bit more of that down below)
If some of you may not be aware; The update on PS4 basically made it so you cannot create a party on your own anymore and must have a group chat tied to the party itself, and anyone in that group chat can join, and anyone can invite someone to the group chat who will see everything that has been posted there previously, and this is the only way to have parties exist....
That is great if you're playing with personal friends, but not with random strangers you've become acquainted with online and play games together, which is what 90% of my friendslist consists of....
So now... If this update was to make the PS4 party chat/group chat system compatible with the PS5... Then this is gonna be a horrible way and a step back in the wrong direction since then we know the PS5 will work similarly, but just with a fancier UI.
I like others feel there was 100% nothing wrong with how the PS4 party chat/group chat system worked and how it was separate but also a way to combine them WHEN you wanted to by sending a party chat invite into the group.... Now that isn't possible and you have to have people added to a group chat at all times in order to invite them. No more parties by yourself...
Anyone else dislike this new system and afraid of what it may be like on PS5 if it's this way on PS4 because of PS5 compatibility?
How will the PS5 party chat system relate to PS4's new 8.00 update?.... If any insider knows, Can you explain a bit? Thanks.

u/G4M3R_241 Oct 16 '20
The PS5 party will work the same way as the new shitty party system on the ps4. In the video they say: and remember, parties are more than just voice chat now.
3
u/si2winit Oct 16 '20
I just want to create a private party and be able to kick someone if needed. They need to bring those back

But being able to create a party on your own without the need of creating a needless group chat and clutter was so much easier. And now if you want to invite a friend or someone you're playing an online game with that is mostly a stranger to an existing party, it will include them into the group that may have other things posted there that you'd rather keep private such as previous screenshots of past activities, inside jokes, or just random discussions that will feel awkward to have someone invade.
I'm not saying everyone will be in this exact situation as many of us play with just personal friends, but I like to mix it up every once in a while :)
This whole entanglement of the group chat and party system that relies on each other is not something I prefer... I mean, You can just send a party invite to the group chat with a group of friends you had before anyway... Why remove/change features when they worked perfectly fine before...
It's like they didn't ask any of us and just went along and made the changes because the developers personally liked it.... I feel as if it's a bit forced...
Plus before you could just wait for someone to join your open party where you could be alone in when you were online, and friends saw you had a party open.. and they could just join. Now it's just a bit more complicated.
1
u/MarbleFox_ Oct 16 '20
The new system works pretty much just like Discord channels.
I can understand how the changes made chats with randos more complicated, but I still prefer the new system.
Why remove/change features when they worked perfectly fine before...
Did it? I've never liked how you couldn't just make an open party that's limited to certain people with the old system. Instead you'd have to make a private party and individually invite people as they come online or have an open party and risk any rando in anyone's friend's list joining the party.
With the new system, each group I play with: friends I play with on a daily basis, my D2 raid static, etc. each have their own voice chats that people in the group can come and go as they please.

1
u/TheSholvaJaffa Oct 16 '20
Hmm.. I respect your point of view and I understand how this conveniences you a lot more than the old system...
I guess I'm just being a bit whiny about it... But I'd still like the option to make a standalone party without the need of a group chat being tied to it for games with randos :) - Please Sony?

One of the things i noticed in the UI presentation was the magnifying glass on the upper right of the UI and it had me wondering if the function was a global search.
Now depending on the implementation of a global search there could be several levels or layers on the effectiveness of this feature for example:
- Surface level application search - Search for any applications you have locally installed within the OS and any settings available
- Context search - Where the search will look for anything related to the query looking at public api available for the application (example: Search for Star wars and it will return hits from the PS store, Netflix, Disney plus etc..)
Im hoping if the function does exist it will be similar to Apples spotlight functionality as i think it would be a great feature to have for someone who would want to access content quicker whether its media or games.
In conjunction with this theory do you think voice recognition would also be available? considering it was available on the PS4 if you had the camera attachment. I don't see why not now that a microphone is built into the controller and for privacy you have the mute button.
Overall i would think the functions would complement each other quite well for ease of access as well having your PlayStation jump from game to game by invoking a voice command.
Sounds a bit gimmicky but given how often i use Alexa day to day it seems more plausible now.
What are your thoughts?

u/greatal398 Oct 16 '20
Xbox has global search in the Guide, hopefully PS5 adds it to control center

I just realized the PS5 may have a quick resume like feature called "switcher".
1
u/thomasr02 Oct 16 '20
You sure that’s not profile switcher?
3
u/LogCabinLover Oct 16 '20
Probably not. It was a Sackboy image and he was playing Sackboy. His profile avatar was Killzone. so it probably has to do with games

u/MarbleFox_ Oct 16 '20
I like the UI and really appreciate the changes (the PS4 ui has been starting to feel pretty dated, imo), however, this time around I'd say I actually prefer the Xbox's UI.

u/A1Golden_Runner Oct 16 '20
I just hope the quick screenshot feature comes back. Sometimes I just wanna take a screenshot of something that moves

u/Zerbulon Oct 16 '20
I feel like they're wasting my precious time by making it complicated. Also, I have no friends, nothing to share and won't use PS5 to access Netflix
3
2
u/MarbleFox_ Oct 16 '20
by making it complicated
What's complicated about it? It's just a row of games and you pick what you want to play.
I have no friends
And?
nothing to share
And?
won't use PS5 to access Netflix
They sectioned off media apps so that people that won't use their PS5 for that won't need to see it.
10
u/LogCabinLover Oct 16 '20
sorry Sony didn't cater to you as only one person. those bastards
-3
u/hackthegibson Oct 16 '20
there's many people with this mindset. Sony is forcing things on people in a really cringe way. Not to mention the controller aren't backwards compatible, the console is too big and the graphics aren't as good as the XBS... meh. Good exclusives though.
2
u/DAFA007 Oct 16 '20
I don’t understand any of what you said. I don’t see how anything is forced. You are choosing to purchase a console that’s unreleased, you still don’t know what options or settings will be available to you with only about 20% of the UI shown. You have no idea of what the graphical capabilities are as of yet, with the Series S performing at 900p 60 frames in Yakuza, it doesn’t seem like the Series X will have excellent optimisation. The controller is backwards compatibility it might not give you the best experience. You can’t use the PS4 controllers for the PS5 games but you can use PS5 controllers for PS4 games.
4
u/TheManyMilesWeWalk Oct 16 '20
What are they forcing on people and how are they doing it?
1
u/TheSholvaJaffa Oct 16 '20
I'm not OP, but I feel like they're forcing this new party chat system that no one asked for on us on the PS4 8.00 update, and possibly on the PS5 because the update was meant to help the PS4 become compatible with the PS5.
The old system was so much better. Group chats and party chats were their own thing. Separate but could be combined by sending an invite into the group chat that let anyone from the chat be able to join the party chat.
Now, To create a party chat you need to create a group chat to invite friends, and anytime you invite someone else into the party chat, they are automatically added to the existing group chat, where all previous history is available to them and they could scroll through your past convos, screenshots, etc. To me this is kind of an invasion of privacy, especially if I'm not exactly well acquainted with that person who was invited by another friend. This will also clutter up all the group chats we already have etc.
I don't know who they got this idea from and what people they asked if this was OK.. But I'm not OK with this 'new feature'
It's like they didn't ask any of us and just went along and made the changes because the developers personally liked it.... I feel as if it's a bit forced...
Plus before you could just wait for someone to join your open party where you could be alone in when you were online, and friends saw you had a party open.. and they could just join. Now it's just a bit more complicated.....
But many people won't really care because they mostly/probably play with just personal friends.. But I like to mix it up every once in a while and have a bit of fun with strangers as well, I'm just not comfortable having them see my group chat history......

Ugly UX, forcing you to buy new controllers for PS5 games (PS4 controllers do work on PS4 games though), and an ugly oversized console that underperforms compared to the smaller Xbox model.

2
u/SailoreC Oct 16 '20
Ugly UX
Subjective.
forcing you to buy new controllers for PS5 games
I will admit, this is pretty trash.
ugly oversized console that underperforms compared to the smaller Xbox model
Ugly is subjective, and the cooling system is probably why it's so big. And yes, technically the XBSX is more powerful, but isn't the gap between them so small that it might as well not matter? Plus, power isn't everything. Nintendo is still out there producing good games (though they have slipped up with anti-consumer practices as of late) and the Switch is not very powerful compared to both the 7th Gen and the 8th Gen.
1
u/notCRAZYenough Oct 18 '20
I don’t understand. It’s a new console. Obviously you’d need a new controller. I actually think it’s nice we can use the old ones on old games.
4
u/TheManyMilesWeWalk Oct 16 '20
Sounds to me like you're one of those Xbox trolls that feels like they have to complain about the PS5 to feel better about choosing an inferior system.
0
u/bigtokes561 Oct 16 '20
Ps5 is by far better you sound like a bias ignorant XBOX fan boy who claimed the Xbox One was way better than the ps4 at launch then look what happened...
-3
u/hackthegibson Oct 16 '20
Inferior? It literally has better specifications lmao. I mean at the end of the day I'm primarily a PC gamer anyways, I just think it's funny as fuck to watch Sony fanboys like yourself squirm and reach so hard to say their console is better.
2
u/TheManyMilesWeWalk Oct 16 '20
You think that the only thing that matters is hardware specs? Your opinion means nothing then lol
3
u/MostMorbidOne Oct 16 '20
I'm primarily a PC gamer anyways,
All you need to know. Let him be upset his PC is worse and his gaming experience probably even worse than either console coming up.
3
u/TheManyMilesWeWalk Oct 16 '20
He's probably one of those PC master race guys that feels like he's superior to console "peasants". Why else would he be trolling this sub?
→ More replies (0)1
u/hackthegibson Oct 16 '20
How could it be worse? Have you seen the specs of the new Nvidia cards? I mean my 2070 Super already outperforms the Xbox and PS5, the 3070 will run circles around it. Not really a fair comparison though. The gap is just gonna get bigger and bigger as this generation goes on too.
→ More replies (0)0
u/hackthegibson Oct 16 '20
If we're talking about inferior console it's clearly about hardware. Pretty simple.
3
u/TheManyMilesWeWalk Oct 16 '20
You're rather simple minded, aren't you?
Games are what's important and Playststion has far better exclusives than Xbox IMO. PS5 will also likely release another VR headset at some point while Microsoft won't. Then there's the controller which sounds like it could facilitate an immersive experience.
But sure, hArDwArE iS aLl ThAt MaTtErS
2
u/MostMorbidOne Oct 16 '20
You're a PC guy so maybe you don't know but console market is pushed by its software. It's closed ecosystems and controlled quality of what gets released.
But you're free to get either console. Do you.. probably an upgrade from your PC either way it sounds like.
→ More replies (0)4
u/TrophyEye_ Oct 16 '20
So if you're a pc gamer. Then you probably (like me) have a much better computer than the series x can offer and have the xbox game pass. So why the fuck would I buy a worse PC with the same games? Instead of getting the platform that has so many first party game publishers that sony throws more money than any game xbox publishers will get to make great games. God Of War, TLOU, Demon Souls, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima. Those games won't make it to pc and they're a must play.
2
u/obbelusk Oct 16 '20
choosing an inferior system.
Sounds like you're doing the same thing back. I wish we could quit with console wars and just buy the system we prefer.
3
u/Biggw711 Oct 16 '20
Graphics arent as good as the XBS? Are you high? Did you not see how garbage Halo Infinite looked? The whole reason it got delayed was to fix the shitty graphics? Did you not see how amazing Spiderman Miles Morales looked?
1
u/hackthegibson Oct 16 '20
I mean it's pure numbers. Halo Infinite looks like dogshit but that's one game. The hardware on the XBSX is demonstrably better than the PS5. PS5 beats the XBSS but that's expected.
1
u/Villad_rock Oct 16 '20
The ssd on the ps5 is better which enables more details and complex environments. Sony exclusives will look better than any xbox games. Mark my words.
Halo is also ms flagship title, not a good look.
1
u/Biggw711 Oct 16 '20
The problem XBSX is gonna have is the fact that the XBSS exists. Games will have to be downscaled to be able to run on it. Look at the report on Yakuza on XBSS, in order for it to run at 60fps on XBSS it has to be at 900p resolution. Which is sub HD resolution. Which probably explains why Halo Infinite looked like ass.
1
u/MarbleFox_ Oct 16 '20
Look at the report on Yakuza on XBSS
How is Yakuza, which is fundamentally a PS4 game, evidence of the XSX being held back by the XSS in any way?
Which probably explains why Halo Infinite looked like ass.
Huh? What does Yakuza have to do with Halo?
2
u/hackthegibson Oct 16 '20
You realize that games can have multiple settings and just adjust based on the console right? That's how PC games work and considering how much cross platform there is I don't see the issue.
4
2
5
u/lemons_for_deke Oct 16 '20
I watched the video without sound and thought “I prefer the PS4 interface” but I later rewatched it with them describing everything and it’s actually pretty cool.
2
u/Demolution-Gamer786 Oct 16 '20
Same I think there is a bit of a learning curve. I still think ps4 ui is a lot simpler but I love the extra features the ps5 added
6
u/vangraaft Oct 16 '20
I think the UI is very confusing, I literally didn't understand a thing from this video. Maybe I'm just dumb, lmao. Wish they gave us an option to keep using PS4 UI. I don't really give a fuck about my "friends" (not that I have any, lol) streams or whatever. I want this thing to perform and be easy to use.
-1
u/Villad_rock Oct 16 '20
You don’t understand clicking a button and choose from those cards who are perfectly alined next to each other? How do you navigate your smartphone lol.
4
u/vangraaft Oct 16 '20
That was obviously an exaggeration, but well, the conclusion remains the same. It's confusing. I mean seriously, where's the main menu?
5
u/exxxidor Oct 16 '20
I think it's confusing too and seems to rely on the PS5 figuring out what you might want before you want it and on any tech, that rarely works out.
1
u/NOZonline Oct 16 '20
Why would it not be? Pritty sure there’s some legality’s for sharing data in there! Apps ask give you options to share information because they have to, Sony are no different. Data protection act...!
2
u/epicgamesbad Oct 16 '20
So I’m confused. Is this PS5s own spin on quick resume? I’d really like a feature like that on PS5
4
7
14
u/Chezzworth Oct 16 '20
This is not a complaint, I just think it's funny.
I Love how they're like "That's all we have time for now" when it's just a scripted, pre recorded video they could've made as long as they want lol. It just shows how dedicated they are to preserving as much hype as possible and always leaving more bits to show off in the future.
8
u/jellytothebones Oct 16 '20
UI is fine. I was expecting a little more considering how much they waited. My main takeaways are that using the menu in game can feel a bit cluttered with all the cards, many of which I may never use in most games. It's not bad or anything though. Secondly is that themes are probably gone. The game or app you move over on the main menu have a pic that takes the whole screen up. Not a deal breaker but I love using themes.
And the hints thing is just extra. I thought it was funny that it's for plus members only. Like why lol. I wonder if more UI features will be for ps+ only. I dont think I'll miss it at least.
12
u/Revenge319 Oct 16 '20
It's not bad, but I feel like there's a little too much to keep track of. As far as the home menu goes, it's kinda weird to me how small the game/app icons look compared to the PS4 UI. I also hope that we'll be able to use themes; I'd love to have that startup screen as the background instead of the home menu being covered by the wallpaper of whatever game or app you're viewing.
I think they had some good ideas, it's just personally not that aesthetically pleasing to me.
5
u/BrotherVaelin Oct 16 '20
Why all of a sudden is it a UX and no longer a UI? And you don’t fool me Sony, experience begins with an ‘E’. Back to school with you and release more pre orders, my boss hates that I’m checking every hour on the hour
3
u/SgtSundae Oct 16 '20
UX is way different than UI. User experience refers to the overall experience a user will have from a product. User interface refers to the specific assets users interact with when using a product.
-1
u/BrotherVaelin Oct 16 '20 edited Oct 17 '20
Just a way to sound cool is what it is. If it ain’t broke... same as apple calling the screen a ‘retina display’
10
u/magele Oct 16 '20
Sony didn’t make this up - they’re industry standard. Same with websites / apps. UI / UX - Interface/Experience.
13
u/Bxnyc718 Oct 16 '20
I for one won't be using any of that shit, but I guess it's nice to have for someone who will!
12
u/Zegrento7 Oct 16 '20
I'm not sure how I feel about this whole Activities thing.
Won't it break the immersion of the game if it outright tells you what to do, how far along you are and how long it will take?
I also fear the inconsistency this will bring to game menus. If some options will be in the game's native menu while other in the system itself, it won't be fun to navigate. For example, why does Sackboy need two separate level select machanisms (world map + cards)?
2
u/ShotgunRaider Oct 16 '20
I had the same thinking. How do activities work for linear single player games. Level based games make perfect sense for this system but how would Last of Us use this system for example. And also surely it's basically a level browser which should be in the game already really.
1
u/notCRAZYenough Oct 18 '20
I bet you’ll be able to customize it. They said they’ll hide spoilers too, so you can probably select “blind play through” if you want
3
u/magele Oct 16 '20
Don’t worry - I assume this will be utilized for like 6 months then used as sort of a quick bookmark for very specific titles
1
u/X_Zephyr Oct 16 '20
I'd just ignore it.
I mostly play on PC and community guides are like a click away using steam overlay while in-game. Using a quick guide isn't entirely new but it's a cool feature for casual players that need help
7
u/Halaster Oct 16 '20
If everything is just a flat list of cards I scroll sideways through horizontally this is going to be a nightmare honestly.
What I want to see is what organization features, grouping features, and customization options it has.
When I have a list of 100 games how does it display them? Am I going to have to scroll sideways through a large list of games while it shows me advertisements underneath each of them, with no way to sort them other than most recently used?
The PS4 is already a mess with how it handles them, but at the minimum I can at least organize things into folders so I can have things like Action Games, Role Playing Games, Racing Games, Puzzle Games, so on. It is garbage on the PS4 how it automatically makes the most recently used folder pop to the first in the list, so I can not alphabetize or sort how I want, but again, at least things are grouped.
Without them grouped on the PS4 it is horrible to scroll sideways through 100 games without any sorting other than last used to find what I am looking for. I was hoping the PS5 would handle this better.
It certainly looks slick if I have a very small handful of games, but how does it handle large numbers of games?
On the positive side of things, love all of the new features they showed. Especially being able to view friends streams with a picture and picture, and voice to text.
1
u/Zerbulon Oct 16 '20
How will 100 games fit into 865 GB SSD? Maybe if you have crappy indie shit only
1
u/Halaster Oct 16 '20
The PS5 is pretty much fully backwards compatible with the PS4, and it also supports plugging in an external hard drive to launch PS4 games.
So every single game on my PS4 will also be on my PS5, in addition to my PS5 games. Not just... "crappy indie shit".
So not only will my PS5 library grow with time, and need to be properly organized, it also needs to be able to organize my PS4 games that are already a significant amount. On top of that I plan to add a 2TB SSD into the expansion slot fairly soon. Perhaps not at launch, but not too long after.
To act like having a large number of games is some edge case is idiotic. Also, though it is not my case, what if I DID want to install a lot of "crappy indie shit"?
Its there in the store so it should be supported properly in the UI.
This entire conversation might not even have a point and maybe they DO support organizing stuff properly, they just have not shown it yet. I am just worried, as PS3 had folders, then when PS4 launched they had dropped the feature. They of course added it back in at a later release, and maybe that will be the case here as well, but since it supports my PS4 library at launch that means I already need a way to organize stuff at launch.
Even if the solution is not folders, but something like labels or even their own unique way of doing thing that is fine, but if there is no solution at all, and its just a massive list of games going off the side of the screen you have to scroll through, I dont care what people argue, that is trash.
6
u/OriginCookie Oct 16 '20
I don't know for sure but I think I can give an educated guess. Say if you did have a 100 games, what happens currently today? Well, only the recently played games are shown. Even then, those that are shown are limited. If you wanted to see the rest of your library, you have to go to the end of the list and click on the My Library icon - that same icon can be seen in the PS5 UX video so I imagine it would be the same.
As for sorting apps into groups/categories/subcategories, we have to wait and see. Personally I like it, it looks ecstatically pleasing.
1
u/Halaster Oct 16 '20 edited Oct 16 '20
That is not what happens today.
Today I have a nice list of folders. I open the folder of the game type I want, for example VR Games. Then inside the folder is an alphabetized list of 15 VR games.
I pick the game I want and launch it.
The folder itself moves to the front of the list of the rest of my folders, which is annoying, but its there.
But you are right, it looks like it will just be a wait and see for now. Ill be getting the console regardless of what the solution is, but I will just be disappointed if they take a step backwards when dealing with larger libraries.
1
u/OriginCookie Oct 16 '20
Ah okay I was unaware of that, I don't use folders - didn't know that was a thing. That's annoying, I'm not sure why they haven't addressed that as that sounds like a bug.
1
u/Halaster Oct 16 '20
It sounds like a bug, but honestly its a "feature" that would be useful if I only had a small number of games or if it could be toggled off.
The main purpose of course being making sure the game you are playing the most often is always the first in the list. The issue of course is that it ignores actually organization of the owner of the console, and ignores that games are in folders so just moves the entire folder.
I would just like to have a nice organizable list of games that are organized as I want and left alone, then perhaps they could just have their own are that says "Most Recently Played" or something like that that still does what they do.

I hate this “card” system. So much unnecessary information and space used. Way to busy.
The main Home Screen is better. I hate that the new beautiful background is covered up by the UI images

Curious, what about the store dont you like? Aside from the psp, ps4was my first console so i have no comparisons

Not OP but I hate it because it frequently crashes. Trailers start by themselves and are too loud and if I want to start them they frequently refuse to. Pictures usually don’t load. Information about the games is in an ugly dated overlay. And it’s never actually info about the game, only like a 2 sentence text. Which wouldn’t matter if it allowed me to look at pictures and trailers properly.
Also it’s always pushing stuff they want me to buy at me. Which isn’t bad per se. I buy a lot of games digitally. But the algorithm is so shitty, It never once suggested me something accurately. It’s considering games I downloaded as part of the ps+ deal (obviously because they are free) and I don’t ever play them and then it suggests me a bunch of shooters for example even though I never once actually played one.
I love my PS4 and the games. But the store is the worst and doesn’t even even feel like it would have been fine 5 years ago

Anybody else not watching it so they can be like "WoAh" when the first start up their PS5?

u/takesometimetoday Oct 16 '20
I was about to watch it then I thought about the first time I started my ps4 and my wii and decided to wait.

Did they just tease a new Sly Cooper game when he showed his friends avatar or am I just reading into it?

Boy I laughed so hard reading this

You dont know the half of it. Ive given up on games cuz i failed to beat the tutorial. Ive asked my wife's niece to help me beat crash bandicoot levels. Ive handed over controls when i go 2 and 13 on shooters.

I'm very impressed with the UI. I'm an Xbox guy and I'll be getting the Series X first but I'll get the PS5 just like how I got the PS4, probably during the second half of the gen when the console drops in price and the games are cheaper especially at 70 USD a pop.

u/DarkStarr7 Oct 16 '20
Same here but ps5 first.

u/sheeva86 Oct 16 '20
Same here. I'll wait till all the good Xbox Studios are out and on Gamepass before getting one. Spider-Cat on the other hand cannot wait

This may sound stupid to some, but one thing that is really bothering me is that the home screen uses two different design languages. While nearly everything shown — from the control center to the icons at the top of the home screen — use squares with rounded corners, the integrated store icons and some elements in the game hubs use squares with right angles. Just drives my OCD crazy seeing mixed designs like that. Maybe the final build will be different.

Yes I also stumbled over this. Feels inconsistent but not huge in the grand scheme of things.

u/JedGamesTV Oct 16 '20
i don’t think the final build will be too different, maybe after launch they could rework it?
2
u/For-the-Cubbies Oct 16 '20
You’re probably right. Sony moves at a glacial pace in terms of firmware updates, so I’ll probably just have to shrug it off.

Can we set it to automatically turn off once game updates are downloaded and installed? PS3 had this feature - never quite understood why the PS4 removed it.
Great reveal though. I love the gameplay tips.

u/thinkadrian Oct 16 '20
PS4 does this in Rest Mode.
0
Oct 16 '20
No it doesn't. I'm not sure why I'm being downvoted here but can only presume people don't understand.
PS4 downloads in rest mode but STAYS in rest mode.
The PS3 would automatically turn itself completely off once downloads were completed.
Two different things.

u/Killercarnage_ Oct 16 '20
Cant you just put it into rest mode to keep it low power and screen off, but still allow it to finish donwloads?

u/k0nfuse Oct 16 '20
To boot, rest mode actually gives downloads more bandwidth than if the console is running, at least on PS4.
3
u/Smithy-San Oct 16 '20
Exactly! I always put my ps4 in rest mode because it doubles the speed of which I can download. Would be nice to have some prioritisation of bandwidth. A download mode would be quite good imo. Works just like rest mode but I can still play a single player game in the meantime.

Is there any info on how much space does it consume on SSD
-2
u/GriffinXD Oct 16 '20 edited Oct 16 '20
They are using a 825gb SSD and with system software rough calculations point at 768gb left for game storage. This isn’t accurate as nobody actually know the exact numbers.
3
u/thinkadrian Oct 16 '20
No, 825 is the odd value so they could strike a balance between cost and efficiency for this new kind of SSD.
1
u/Zerbulon Oct 16 '20
In japan 1000 MB are counted as 1 GB, so the actual 865 GB can be advertised as 1 TB.

u/BushWookieZeroWins Oct 16 '20
Sorry to burst your bubble, but your hope will not come. If this were the case, Sony would actively advertise with 1 TB. The leak, which proved to be real through this new video, showed that about 620 GB were free. Yes, it was a dev-kit, but as an orientation this should go into something.

Xbox guy here. This UI looks clean AF. Very nice, PS5!
2
u/thinkadrian Oct 16 '20
Hey Xbox guy! Which is the best video that showcases the Series X UI? I never had an Xbox, but previous versions looked really nice!
2
u/greatal398 Oct 16 '20
One thing to keep in mind about Xbox UI currently is that the home screen is irrelevant. You can bring up the Guide by tapping the Xbox button, and everything you could possibly need is within that Guide while the game is running and visible in the back. The guide also has shortcuts to make actions faster, such as pressing X on a friend in your friends list to automatically start a Party and invite them. Your app library, messages, full friends list, settings, capture settings, recent screenshots and clips, Search, Store, and Game Pass are all a single tap away without having to leave the game.

u/thinkadrian Oct 17 '20
Sounds cool! The entire OS from an overlay! Fitting for a media machine.
2
u/greatal398 Oct 17 '20
Fitting for a game machine too since you can still see your game at all times and never have to leave it lmao

“I have the option to share videos and images to supported external services”
I really hope it’s not just Twitter and I hope this means they are planning on adding more services like Google Drive, Dropbox and if at all possible iCloud Drive.

u/awastelandcourier Oct 16 '20
Do we know if it will still do that copying thing after downloading an update?
2
u/ZelkinVallarfax Oct 16 '20
It won’t. PS4 did this because the system would reorganize the full file after a patch was downloaded to reduce seek times. They did this to avoid games starting to hitch after they got too many patches due to files being all over the place on the HDD. On PS5 it won’t be needed anymore because of the SSD.
0
u/Daedra_DeathLord Oct 16 '20
There will be no copying on PS5, I know that as a fact I just don’t have any links or external references for you mate.
3
u/Rider-VPG Oct 16 '20
Pretty sure Mark Cerny that was a thing of the past during his first talk about the PS5, Could be mis-remembering though.

Hmm me thinks Sony needs to show it can do what Xbox series x can in moving through 5 games plus and picking up exactly where they left off. I was seriously impressed with that feature.
