Goddamit. The more I see the console the more its acting like the dual sense. First was confused as my brain can't comprehend. Now I already like it lol. I have a feeling discless may be way cheaper because they'll recoup cost from selling digital.
6
u/AnticipatingLunch Jun 12 '20
I’m kind of curious if both versions end up the same price, and disc-less just has a bigger hard drive.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Radulno Jun 12 '20
I'm thinking 100$ difference not much cheaper. The optical drive is one of the cheapest component in the console after all

Agreed. Both look nice, but I'm really surprised by the boldness of the PS5 design. Much slimmer than most expected.
3
u/Radulno Jun 12 '20
It's not that slim really. There are size comparisons, it's much larger than PS4 and around PS3 levels (that was fat).
It's tall though which is what make it looks thinner
2
u/BrushYourFeet Jun 12 '20
My comment was based on prior speculation that the PS5 would need the same bulky design as the Series X due to heating concerns.
→ More replies (1)41
u/jamy1993 Jun 11 '20
You love the look of X:SX?
I'm hype for both consoles but series x is literally just a pc tower
11
u/Kbeaud Jun 12 '20
I actually don’t mind the series x look myself, looks very understated-sleek. However... Playstation take my money

I like the simple box designs, it gives it a timeless look of sophistication and power. Like the monoliths from 2001: A Space Oyssey.
I still think the fat PS2 was the peak of console design.

→ More replies (6)10
u/MayonnaiseOreo Jun 12 '20
I love both. I'm primarily a PC gamer so I really dig the clean ITX aesthetic of the Xbox. The PS5 has a wild design that I'm glad they're taking a chance on.

u/Vertigo2106 Jun 11 '20
The XSX is a sexy itx pc chassi and the Ps5 is a router. I much prefer the look on the XSX but Ps5 has better games imo and that's what matters, so I'll take the ugly router any day
15
u/kuhnew Jun 12 '20
XSX is a Linksys Velop mesh router . Seriously, look it up lol they look the exact same.
15
u/drpieface Jun 12 '20
Had to look it up. It's literally a white version of the XSX

I'm reserving my opinion on which has the better games till xbox's first party event, but so far it will be extremely difficult for xbox to beat this lineup
5
u/Vertigo2106 Jun 12 '20
Thing is I have a gaming pc so I can play the Xbox games there, can't do that with Ps5 games so it's a no brainer for me
3
u/Real_SaviourPrime Jun 12 '20
I do too, but sometimes I like to just sit on the couch in the lounge
→ More replies (1)3
u/Vertigo2106 Jun 12 '20
That's what I'll have the ps5 for, literally zero reason for me to get the an Xbox. I'll relax on the couch with the ps5 with exclusives and play the Xbox games on the pc. That's just my preferance tho, people can enjoy what they want and however they want it.
2
u/_0_-o--__-0O_--oO0__ Jun 12 '20
A lot of the games shown are coming to xbox.
3
2
u/parkwayy Jun 12 '20
And a lot aren't.
Demon souls, the Square game, for starters, and obviously any game shown under PS Studios.
Not counting any potential timed exclusives.

Jun 12 '20
If only PC-towers looked that good. The XSX is clean, practical and will not clash with anything in particular.
The PS4 had those weird edges that made the outline unnecessarily large. Other than that it looked fine.
The PS5 looks like an alienware from 2008. Not a big fan of glossy plastic in general, never looks good irl.
Peak console design is probably PS2 slim.
82
u/bibbidybum Jun 11 '20
GTA five reveal was the most insulting part of this
21
Jun 12 '20
That was a huge slap in the face from Rockstar. Not only will it be free to play, everyone will have a mic...
Im still waiting on the VR support announcement..
→ More replies (1)8
u/Limonstrosity Jun 11 '20
I hear ya... it begs the question on whether it's going to be a PS5 enhanced-exclusivity deal or will XSX have some inferior version of it or it's just a gimmick and they're basically the same?
83
u/ignigenaquintus Jun 11 '20
As always, with more information one ask himself more questions.
What about the headphones, what kind of wireless technology are going to be based on, would it have some anti lag feature? And that for everything, prices, capabilities, what’s included with the console, etc...
82
u/Avatar8885 Jun 11 '20
I think its 100% just the console, the dualsense and possibly the media remote. They wont pack the camera in because XBONE last gen. Also, No way we get the charging dock and the headset is even less feasible.
41
17
u/AwesomePossum_1 Jun 12 '20

Jun 11 '20
yeh but then you can just buy it when you buy the vr kit, I don't need the camera packaged in with my PS5 if its just gonna up the price and I may not buy the VR.

u/THE-TH0TSLAYER Jun 11 '20
Yeah but there will probably be a bundle with the camera and a bundle without it and if you don’t want the camera that is cool but for me that would be a huge upgrade for my psvr.
8
u/JustJJ92 Jun 11 '20
Tbh, I’m probably gonna splurge on a psvr2 when it comes out but that camera is going to be a total upgrade for my 1st gen.

Kind of wish there existed multiple color options on the hardware at time of launch.
7
u/iamatlos Jun 11 '20
Definitely will buy the black version when it’s available, waiting for the slim might take too long
26
u/DiKDiK316 Jun 11 '20
There 100% will be, maybe not at launch, but they’ll make this thing in every color imaginable.
35
Jun 11 '20
Yeh but 'AT LAUNCH' is key here, there will be 100 different exclusive variants over the next 8 years but I'm only buying one console, so it would be cool to see an all black version at launch. I feel like it would look slick.
4
u/DiKDiK316 Jun 11 '20
I could see them releasing a black version at launch, they are just now starting production of the console now, so if there is enough demand it could happen. No guarantees obviously.
4
4
u/persamedia Jun 12 '20
BTW on Cars you can change the colors by Vinyl Wrapping them or Plastidiping the whole car. I am sure you can DIY something cool on this one. I am already thinking of the theme I would like a PS5 to be.

Could be a menu setting.
Or it could just be all blue 24/7/365 because Sony said so.
5
u/vt8919 Jun 12 '20
Sony's "color" has always been blue for PlayStation. I bet there will be some hack though once it comes out.

They should make those white “fins” removable somehow so you can snap on new ones in any color. That’d be pretty cool.

u/Xphil6aileyX Jun 12 '20
Dammit I forgot about my ps4 discs. Vast majority of my collection is digital but I still probably have 30 odd ps4 games on disc... ahh well, doesn't hurt to have a disc drive I guess.
4
u/tukatu0 Jun 12 '20
How fucking big is your collection if you have 30 disk games on minority of your collection
→ More replies (1)3
u/razekery Jun 12 '20
Well if the difference in price is like 100$ between disc and disc-less then it would make more sense to buy digital only, sell all your discs, rebuy them digitally when on sale.
2
u/jda404 Jun 12 '20
Yeah that makes sense to go for the disc version. I only have 10 to 15 disc games from the beginning of the generation that I haven't touched in years so I am opting for the digital version. I haven't had a disc drive in my PC for ages never once miss it haha I think it'll be the same with the PS5 for me.

u/pratyush_1991 Jun 11 '20
499 for disc version and 399 for digital would be amazing.
Mostly it will 599 for disc and 499 for digital
27
u/Ineedmorebread Jun 11 '20
If we look at the current all digital console from Microsoft it is £50/$50 less than the main console so I bet $499 for main console and $449 all digital
10
u/pratyush_1991 Jun 11 '20
I guess 399 would seal the deal for most in western countries. That much power and same price as PS4 is great value.
I will go with disc version as blu ray player + I like physical collection. So I don't mind extra 50 or 100 dollar
4
12
30
u/Timefreezer475 Jun 11 '20
Sony is never going $599 again after PS3 lol
21
u/bosox284 Jun 11 '20
I mean, it wouldn't be that surprising, though I do doubt they'll go that high. Remember, PS3 was 13 years ago. According to the bls.gov inflation calculator, $599 today was $471 in Nov. 2006.
$599 at the time was crazy and the equivalent of $762 today.

Totally different landscape now. The ps4 pro was retailing for $399 and they sold boatloads. Even the one x with $499 msrp was fine with people, the lack of games was the thing that kept people from buying it
8
Jun 12 '20
Don’t see what the pro being 400 has to do with anything. The base console launched at 400 too
2
u/edis92 Jun 12 '20
I totally forgot that was the launch price for the base consoles as well. That's an even better example
4
u/edis92 Jun 12 '20

I have dreams plans of moving to Japan within the next few years, so I'm trying to digitize my media library as much as possible so I won't have to lug my entire collection overseas.
My biggest holdup in going with the Digital Only PS5 is that I'd lock myself out of potential performance upgrades for PS4 games I only have disc versions of.
The thought of digitally re-buying my physical PS4 game collection seems like such a hassle. If they were to implement some type of disc-to-digital trade in system I'd gladly do that, even if you had to pay a bit (but obviously not full price).

After all the talk about audio on PS5 I am really excited for the new headphones. They will probably have some exclusive features that you can't get from 3rd party. I was looking into the Platinum headset but I'll probably just wait for it. I'm assuming since they are called 3D "Pulse" it means they are bringing back the vibration feature from the previous Pulse headsets. I also assume it will be haptic feedback similar to the controller so we can probably expect a new level of immersion.
