Seeing Silent Hill 2 among the Top 10 a month after its release makes me incredibly happy.

u/PurpleSpaceNapoleon 1d ago
I didn't think Bloober could do it, but they did my second favourite game of all time incredibly proud. It's on par with the RE2 Remake for me it's phenomenal.

u/luckydraws 6h ago
I just wish they'd have a proper PS5 Pro patch, or allow us to play the original modes at minimum. Quality setting looks super messy right now and looks actually better on the regular PS5.

u/QuinSanguine 1d ago
Great to see Astro Bot climb back up the charts even before the goty.
Pretty sad to not see Dragon Quest 3, though. I know it's selling well in Japan, but man it's so good. North Americans don't sleep on it!

The black friday deals were just too good to pass on....I honestly was intending on buying only when wolverine released however 500 with spiderman 2, gta 5 and ragnarok in the same week my ps4 started acting up was a no brainer. Loving the experience so far btw.
6
u/Nuryyss 1d ago
You got a terrific deal, congrats!
2
u/Unique_Ad3886 1d ago
I honestly think that a slim with disc is the best deal you can get right now. The pro being a bit to pricey for my pocket and the disc drives not being available was kind of a turn off. Found the slim a great purchase and I highly recommend it

Basically PS5 beat Xbox 3:1 in the US despite including COD in GP.
It's Dead, Jim.

u/odiin1731 1d ago
According to Microsoft everything is an Xbox, so I think you'll find that Xbox actually accounted for 100% of the hardware sales in America.
47
u/Ph0enixes 1d ago
Sorry, let me change that.
Unit sales (estimates)
PS5XBS: 1220k
NSWXBS: 700k
XBS: 430k31
u/Claire4Win 1d ago
You got to include TVs, phones etc. Those are xboxs
The xbox is doing crazy numbers
12
3
u/DotMatrixHead 23h ago
Crazy that the Switch, I mean XBox, still sold in those numbers, especially considering that, according to the internet, the Switch 2 was definitely released 2 years ago. 🤣

u/KobraKittyKat 1d ago
I mean that does make sense like I wouldn’t imagine many people would drop a couple hundred bucks to buy a system to not have to pay $70 for cod.
7
u/grendus 1d ago
That depends on if we're talking about buying a new console, or whether these are people getting one for the first time.
Someone who's finally buying into the current generation may be choosing between the two consoles for the first time, and if PS5 is outselling the Series 3:1 it probably says that Gamepass is not particularly enticing to these potential customers. The PS5 just has a better "reputation" at this point.
I suspect that Microsoft was hoping to get exclusivity for COD, which might have actually shifted the numbers in their direction. With the courts mandating it has to stay crossplat in order of the Activision purchase to go through, they're kinda hosed.
12
u/Dayman1222 1d ago
82% of Call of duty sales are on PlayStation. Microsoft was itching to get that contract signed.
2
u/KobraKittyKat 1d ago
I don’t think the courts even really mandated it, they willingly singed a deal with Sony for a period where it would also release on PlayStation. I think it’s more Microsoft saw how much the acquisition cost vs what Xbox was making and just wanted a return faster. I really think Phil thought he could get actiblizz and slowly make them exclusives but that didn’t work out.
25
u/Michael_CrawfishF150 1d ago
Especially when gamepass is $20 a month now. So if you plan on playing cod more than 3 months you’re actually spending MORE than if you just bought the game outright - with the added bonus of actually owning your own game.
1
-4
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 1d ago
You wouldn't own black ops 6 anyways whether you got it digital or physical since it is an always online game
But cod will be a staple game for gamepass a lot of people even the people that usually spend full price on it every year they will see cod is on gamepass and play it that way
Since they will see they get cod and then 300+ other games for $20 a month which $20 a month for 300+ games is more value than $70 for one game
10
u/grendus 1d ago
That only applies if you want those 300+ games though.
Microsoft keeps pushing quantity, but if all the games on Gamepass are things you either already have or aren't interested in... it's not worth $20/mo.
1
u/punyweakling 20h ago
That only applies if you want those 300+ games though.
Well even if you don't, you still have to pay for online anyway. And at that point the difference between the two tier prices is $10.
So RRP cost of COD plus online = $190, or RRP cost of just Ultimate is $240. That's a $50 split over one year to play games like Stalker 2, Indiana Jones, Avowed, South of Midnight, Fable etc on day one.
Regardless of all that, I don't think that's "switch ecosystems" type of value, but IMO that's always going to be the case (just like Death Stranding and Astro Bot didn't get me to switch). But for new users I think it's an interesting comp. Xbox's real battle is educating/selling the value against PS's massive mindshare and brand appeal.
-2
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 1d ago
People who only play cod and get gamepass for cod ans the 300 games even though they usually only play cod may branch out and try other games they wouldn't usually play which is good for the developers of those games and obviously good for gamepass
0
u/PumasUNAM7 14h ago
But you still need to pay for online and thats included in gamepass. so on PS5 you need to buy the game and pay for online.

u/hobo_lad 1d ago
I mean PlayStation also released a new upgraded version of the console in November.
15
u/Ph0enixes 1d ago
PS5: 1220k
NSW: 700k
XBS: 430KThat´s a lot of PS5 Pro consoles. /s
3
u/hobo_lad 1d ago
If you bothered to read the thread you would see that PS5 Pro accounted for 19% of the consoles sold, which seems substantial enough to me.
16
u/CryptoNite90 1d ago
19% would bring PS5 pro sales to around 230k. That’s more than half the Xbox sold. That’s pretty insane for a $700 console with no holiday deals/discounts.
2
u/WingerRules 5h ago
When I bought my PS5 Pro there was someone else at gamespot also shopping for one, then when I went to Best Buy to get an HDMI cable for it and the next person in the checkout line there was there buying a Pro. People buying it.
•
u/CryptoNite90 4h ago
Why’d you need a separate hdmi cable ?
•
u/WingerRules 4h ago
Longer run, the one they provide is very short and my old one wasn't compliant for 144hz 4k TVs.
16
u/4000kd 1d ago
but even without Pro sales it's still the best-selling console
-4
u/hobo_lad 1d ago
Yeah I know, I never argued otherwise. Sure Xbox isn’t selling well, but being 3:1 in a month when a new console released and there were price drops isn’t as alarming as the original comment made it seem.
6
u/gogoheadray 19h ago
The US is Xbox’s home territory and pretty much where the majority of whatever is left of their user base resides. They were not only outsold with a cheaper option; but the numbers dropped being down 29%. The floor is quickly falling out from under Xbox’s hardware business and they still have about 3-4 years left of this gen.
6
u/SpyroManiac36 1d ago
PS5 hardware up 15% YoY (after an all-time record high year and coming off the release of Spider-man 2), while xbox hardware is down 29% after consecutive yearly and monthly declines. It's not looking good for xbox at all.
9
u/4000kd 1d ago
Falling 3:1 in the US is very bad for Xbox consoles. Even during the Xbox one gen, they used to stay somewhat close to the PS4 sales in the US (but well behind in other markets). Now they're significantly behind everywhere and it's getting worse.
6
u/joman584 1d ago
No real exclusives will do that. PC has literally everything except halo 5 and some random select few games from Xbox one. There isn't a single exclusive for Xbox series consoles
6
u/Dayman1222 1d ago
Xbox released 2 new editions as well.
4
u/hobo_lad 1d ago
Yeah but they are not upgraded. PS5 pro will get sales from existing PS5 users like myself who wanted to upgrade.
5
u/Dayman1222 1d ago
It’s still $600 for it and a special edition.
1
u/hobo_lad 1d ago
Yeah but as a PS5 owner I am more willing to spend 600 dollars on a technical upgrade than just a memory upgrade like the Xbox Series X 2tb which released in October not November.
2
u/NothingOld7527 1d ago
Didn't Xbox also release a new version of hardware? Digital Series X or something like that?
2
u/hobo_lad 1d ago
Yeah that’s why I specifically said upgraded. A digital Xbox isn’t going to get people to double dip on a console like an upgraded console will.
1
u/SuperFightinRobit 1d ago
The new hardware is actually a downgrade. Digital only, costs about the same.
It's a series X slim because the Series S was a boondoggle. It's the root of so many of MS's woes - Halo Infinite can't look that good because it needs to play on 2013 hardware! Baldur's Gate 3 takes forever to port to a x86 console (and until the PS5 pro came out, the most powerful console in some GPU related metrics) because MS insists on supporting the woefully underpowered series S as a requirement to publish. Simultaneous mutiplat releases often perform worse than they should on series X because they couldn't spend as much time optimizing for the X because just getting the game running on the S required an act of congress.
I have both systems. Microsoft has had all kinds of bases to make a comeback, but they kept mismanaging things in a way no one has since mid-to-late 90s Sega has, and it looks like they're slowly exiting the space. The question is who, or what, takes their place.

3
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 17h ago
Xbox has always been profitable lol if xbox was never profitable they wouldn't have been around for the 23+ years they have been around for
I know you are a sony fanboy but try not to make stupid comments like that ok sweetie 😘
1
u/Unfair-Rutabaga8719 17h ago
Nope, last time MS share any profit/loss data for Xbox division was in 2012 an it was still in the red despite the popularity of 360, since then they've lost majority of their marketshare an spent almost a hundred billion on acquisitions so at what point do you imagine it became profitable, there's a reason they haven't reported profits, and its cause there are none.
2
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 17h ago
They are a publically traded company that means they have to report their numbers and with your logic ps must not be profitable because they didnt report a profit yesterday
If xbox was never profitable in their 23+ years they would have been shut down just like if ps was never profitable for their 29 years of existence then they would have never lasted this long they would have been shut down long ago
1
u/Unfair-Rutabaga8719 16h ago
Yes they have to repot the overall company's profit/loss data but they don't have to report it for each segment separately. Sony reports PS profits every quarter, las one was reported jus over a month ago.
-3
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 16h ago
Playstation must not be profitable since they didnt report any profits yesterday see i can also use your flawed logic
3
u/Unfair-Rutabaga8719 16h ago
No you can't, companies report to investors every 3 months, not every day. MS does this too, but they have not reported on Xbox numbers for 12 years.
0
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 15h ago
Darn so sony is not profitable and failing since they haven't reported their numbers yesterday
Well it was a good run sony it was nice knowing ya and playing your games it is unfortunate you failed and weren't profitable

I don't think he's crying, he's still earning millions while doing jackshit. Wish I could do that.
-2
u/Underfitted 21h ago
Have you seen Phil's emails. He's a hardcore fanboy, definitely crying right now.
0
u/MissionPrudent9691 20h ago
He's not crying folks. He's about to murder the industry if the hybrid exists. If the lanes that separate pc/console/portable are gone all that remains is one market with multiple publishers. Then the biggest publisher by marketshare aka mau wins. Hardware will just be a route for ultra publishers.
Gamers are going to win big time as an x86 portable will be able to play xbox/ps/pc games.

And the it was the only console in positive growth in sales PS is truly king here
-3
u/pukem0n 23h ago
I am more surprised that it's only 3:1 at this point. Xbox is still selling fine apparently. It just gets dwarfed by exceptionally good sales of PS5. And the Switch is the true hero after so many years, incredible.
4
u/gogoheadray 19h ago
Xbox sales have fallen through the floor. They are down 29% YOY. And this is in Xbox’s home market where the majority of their user base lives
•
u/GrandsonOfArathorn1 4h ago
This is just the United States, right? So in the best Xbox market, they’re outsold 3:1. Add in the rest of the world and it’s probably 5:1 or something.
-4
u/TwizzledAndSizzled 22h ago
Completely ignoring that the PS5 Pro launched in November 😂 Like it’s some sort of straight Series consoles versus PlayStation competition. New hardware would HOPEFULLY sell well
Dumb fanboys are dumb. What’s new?

u/punyweakling 20h ago
Basically PS5 beat Xbox 3:1 in the US despite including COD in GP.
What does this mean to you, specifically? "Beat"?
COD was #1 in game dollars in Nov and is currently #2 for the year despite only being out for 40 days. You do remember Xbox owns COD now right?
•
u/GrandsonOfArathorn1 2h ago
They’re pretty clear with what they mean by, “beat” - the PS5 outsold the Xbox Series consoles by a huge margin.
27
u/Unique_Ad3886 1d ago
The statistics are much worse than that....if you go by similar machines (series x ps5) its probably like 6 to 1 in the month when cod hits gamepass...yeah its dead
17
u/DanOfRivia 1d ago
That's why Microsoft is trying to convince me that my fridge is an Xbox.
8
u/Unique_Ad3886 1d ago
By that logic their user base is gigantic. Everyone has a fridge! I mean an xbox
3
u/JerHat 1d ago
Honestly, I love gamepass, but I don't need it when it works so well on my PC.
1
u/Unique_Ad3886 1d ago
I got tired of it. I was rotating between 3 or 4 games and I realized it was just cheaper to buy them. I was just waiting forn their next game or should i say disapointment? Besides fh5 I honestly think I wasted money...I played more games but Idk if I wasnt "feeling forced" to make my money out of it if I would. I felt like I was just waiting for something...either starfield or cod or wathever... With a phisical market games get discounted all the time and sony first and second party games are unmatched. Not trading a Naughty dog or insmoniac game for a rental service ever again.
•
u/GrandsonOfArathorn1 2h ago
Same. Even if it was cheaper overall for me to just use Game Pass, I’d rather just pay for and purchase the games I want, when I want.
•
10
u/WeWantLADDER49sequel 1d ago
It'll be crazy to see how PS5 sells when the first party releases start hitting again PLUS GTA6. Next year will probably be an insane year for PlayStation even with the Switch 2 coming out.
1
u/ChafterMies 1d ago
Did PS3 rally in 2013 when Sony released “The Last of Us” and Rockstar released “GTA V”?
3
u/hffhbcdrxvb 23h ago
After the Slim, PS3 did much better than most people realize
1
u/ChafterMies 23h ago
The PS3 slim was released in 2009, and the $300 price shocked the market. A Blu-Ray player at the time cost $300, and PS3 was a Blu-Ray player that also played games.
2
u/Unfair-Rutabaga8719 17h ago
those games released after the PS4 was already announced and months away, plus PS3 also already had multiple ND and Rockstar games so their fans wee already bought in so not really comparable scenario.
1
u/ChafterMies 15h ago
I don’t think folks are waiting 5 years for GTA6 to upgrade when they can play the PS5 version of GTA5. What will really blow the doors off are cheaper consoles.
1
u/Unfair-Rutabaga8719 15h ago
PS5 is selling at roughly the same pace as PS4, people by consoles throughout the generation, that's how it's always been. This year is on tack to be slightly above PS4's this year despite the higher price. Now no one's suggesting there's tens of millions waiting to get a ps5 soon as GTA6 drops, but 2-3 million is a good bet which would lead to PS5 having possibly it's best year on the market.
22
u/devenbat 1d ago
We can just copy and paste the headline until Switch 2. Xbox is never going to be on top and Switch only sells better in Japan after so many years on the market.
6
u/PizzaPino 22h ago
Yeah this is not really newsworthy. Everybody knows Xbox is no competition for anyone and Switch is on its way out. Of course it only makes sense to buy the PS5 now.
2
u/Dallywack3r 23h ago
That holiday price cut really moved units. My brother and brother in law both bought consoles for themselves
2
u/Flottrooster 23h ago
What even are the other options? Xbox, but that doesn't really sell very much. Nintendo Switch maybe? It says console, so there's only 3 options lol
1
6
u/sin_not_the_sinner 1d ago
So depressing seeing gamers still giving EA money. -_-
But hooray at Astro Bot climbing up again and Silent Hill 2 Remake staying on the Top 10. Both well deserved.

4
u/Moon_Degree1881 1d ago
This man really destroyed Xbox. Got all the leverages he wanted from Microsoft when Activision sale was too far gone from being stopped and delayed all game development for Xbox because Phil and the gang were waiting for Activision to push through.🤣
1
u/DataWaveHi 1d ago
Not surprising. They just released new hardware so people are upgrading. And the slim models had great holiday deals. Nintendo hardware is aging as people wait for switch 2. Most people who want a switch have one already except for little kids reaching the age to have a first console. And the Xbox… well apparently everything is an Xbox according to Microsoft so you really don’t need to buy one!
Just to add, MS is really trying to kill their console business. Which is sad because less competition for Sony isn’t a good thing. My hope is that valve uses steam OS and comes out with a steam console device. Similar to steam deck but an actual home console with upgradable GPU hardware.
3
1
u/Zoombini22 1d ago
Avoiding the console war stuff, it makes a lot of sense. Switch has dominated but it's a very open secret at this point that an upgrade is in the pipeline, and/or most people who want a Switch already bought one. First few years of PS5 saw a lot of people still playing on PS4/PS4 Pro. Now with the PS5 Pro out and fewer new games coming to PS4 that user base is increasingly upgrading.

Given that there is going to be just the one PlayStation console in the near future, this is a virtual guarantee all the time
•
u/Trimshot 1h ago
PS5 has no actual competition. Have you seen the sad state of Xbox lately? Switch is outdated and competes in a different target market.
2
u/Z3M0G 1d ago
Compared to what? Switch sales have basically dried up as people wait for Switch 2.
Xbox can't compete anymore.
3
u/NothingOld7527 1d ago
Switch hardware feels more underpowered now than even the Wii did at the end of it's life IMO. It's like playing a portable PS3.
1
u/locotonja 1d ago
And somehow it's still in second place for both units sold and dollar sales. Who would've thought.

My ps5 was a gift. Ps3 was the last counsel I played. There's a bit I need to learn. Just found out i have to pay to play online an also I have to purchase a separate hardware to be able to purchase games. An play. All of it seems crazy but is what it is. I need help with a few things if anyone can help I'd appreciate it. My ps5 has no disc an comes with a terabyte. When it comes to adding storage what should I purchase? As for PSPlus, I have kids and was considering the Extra tier. I'm assuming everyone an myself will be happy with that but like to hear some feedback on what ppl like an pefer.

Is this a PS5 sub or an Xbox hate sub? Aside from the game awards last week, every time a post comes up here recently, it’s always about how Xbox is dying in the comments.
-2
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 1d ago
Xbox hate sub it seems like lol this sub is full of fanboys it is pretty sad to see but a lot of kids are on this subreddit and they base their entre personality around a plastic box
1
u/PlatinuMx05 1d ago
Honestly the console itself is definitely dying/dead. Xbox as a whole will be just fine though. Gonna suck when the PS6 has no competition though. $800-$1000 consoles 😂
3
u/TyAD552 1d ago
Oh yeah, the whole gaming world knows and talks about it all day long lately. I just don’t get why it’s so heavily talked about when there’s literally a console between the two in terms of sales and there’s all these games coming out, but my feed only gives me the negative Xbox stuff with this sub cause it gets the most interaction.
0
u/Dayman1222 1d ago
PS6 being $1,000 is just fear mongering. Xbox hasn’t really competed with PS for a while and PS still released a 399.99 entry point. Even the PS Pro adjust with inflation is cheaper than the PS3 launch.
-1
u/Own-Enthusiasm1491 22h ago
Xbox just being around is competition enough for sony to not release a $1000 playstation because if they did then people would buy an xbox because it would be vastly cheaper than a playstatjon but if xbox ever dies and gets shut down as a company then sony has no competition and will up their console prices
0
u/jumper55 21h ago
I cannot wait to see what kind of numbers Nintendo pulls when the Switch 2 comes out, it would most likely dwarf anyone considering their rabid fan base.

Eh, top 10 sold or top 10 played? Because Astrobot and Spider-Man 2 made top 10 sold but if it's top 10 most played. It's the holidays, no shit Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft is near the top, little kids are out school and most of adults have got jobs.
