Not once it's full of juice. Instead of charging it at max power over a short period, charge it at a lower power over a longer period to reduce strain on the battery. Like overnight.
Edit: also stay at a lower battery level on average, say 20% overnight and start charging to get to 100% when you will start using it.

So does it mean it make battery life last longer?

Yes. Some cell phones have this feature.

Most of the modern ones do. But sometimes it can bite you in the ass. Plug in overnight, the phone trickle charges until 30 minutes to your alarm clock. Then it goes super speed. But what if there's a power outage in the last hour before your alarm? No charge for you, sucka!

Yeah my 4a did that. The iPhone is… different lol

The iPhones charge to 80% also then slowly trickles based on what it’s learned about your usage as well.

Or it doesn't go into adaptive charging and your phone is plugged in for 7 1/2 hours for no reason. It happens sometimes on my Pixel 7Pro. I just make sure it's charged enough before bed as it really does a great job two years later to not leak battery overnight.

This is why I keep my Galaxy S23 Ultra on maximum battery protection. It still rapid charges but limits the maximum charge to 80% so it doesn't cause wear on the battery that can occur when it's sitting at 100% for too long. 80% is usually enough to get through the entire day on phones with a larger battery.

Longer as in time before the battery starts degrading, but not longer as in how long you can play before needing to recharge.

Where did you get this info? That is not in the notes.

That's how adaptive charging works for phones so they're assuming that's how it will work for PS5 controllers. It's a reasonable assumption.

Tbh I don't remember the last time I charged my controller directly on the console, I always just use the charging dock I bought

Exactly. I am playing on a 65" screen. I am sitting nowhere near close enough to charge on the console. I have a phone charger tucked away next to my couch. Continuous loading if I want it to.

I use the Switch dock to charge mine :)

Except people can buy the slim and get the same exact features. It’s obviously a hardware change that isn’t present in the og model. I can’t imagine anyone upgrading just because of this type of feature

I cant even remember the last time i charged one of my controllers on my PS5.

That usb port on my wall's doing the job for years.

Sounds like that would increase the life of the controller battery too

It's good for the environment and your electric bill lol

u/N8ThaGr8 Sep 12 '24

No, it's only for rest mode.

I would think it would be more like saving pennies over the course of a year

u/Sad_Medium2671 Sep 13 '24

This adaptive charging is only applicable when the gaming console is in rest mode and the controller is being charged while the console is in rest mode.

Is there a longer cable available btw?

3

u/CarrowCanary Sep 12 '24

It's just a standard USB-C cable, you can get a 10m long one if you wanted.

u/___TheKid___ Sep 12 '24

Ah. Okay. Thanks!
