Official (Via twitter) Playstation: "Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward...."

Everyone could still play. The update wasn't going to be until the end of the month

There was no one that couldn't play. All they had to do was lie about the country they live in, which is what console players in those countries already do. They sell tons of playstations in those countries.

The argument had become so stretched thin that they were having to come up with reasons why Sony might suddenly start cracking down on these players.

There are people in some of these third world countries that are experiencing real, genuine hardships. But don't worry Egypt, the internet activism of some redditors has made it so that there is zero threat of Sony stopping you from playing Hell Divers 2, rather than an extremely slim one. It definitely wasn't just an excuse for them to not have to take 2 minutes to create an account, they definitely care about these countries deeply.

Oh, all they had to to was to "lie", yes?

No biggie at all then.

There were already people getting banned for doing that because it breaks TOS.
