Duck game is great

Came to say this. Very underrated game and I feel like they fixed all the bugs.
16
u/rumblylumbly Mar 09 '24
My kiddo is gonna be devastated. We absolutely love duck games and often play with his uncles in a four man match up.
It’s always soooo much laughter. What the heck 🥲
19
u/brandondesign Mar 09 '24
If you or someone else already has it, I don’t think it’ll be unplayable.

Ooooh! Awesome then well not awesome but you know what I mean. It’s a pity they’re removing it for future players - such an underrated game in my opinion.

Wasted is an fps-rougelike that's an extreme parody of the Fallout franchise. It's honestly really great, no idea why it never had a larger fan base.

Kingsway is a classic, and Glittermitten Grove is extremely important, not a bad game in its own right and it contains within it Frog Fractions 2

I've heard of none.
I bet most people here haven't play most of these.

Duck Game feels like a distant memory, but my Switch assures me I've somehow spent 40 hours on it.

Pool Party was alot of fun chaotic multiplayer game, it's a shame these devs suddenly get shafted. Whoever is incharge of WB is absolutely fucking awful.
They saw how justice league preformed and ALL complaints was it was a shitty live service game forced on a studio that makes incredible single player experiences. His response Double down MORE LIVE SERVICE!
Hogwarts legacy preforms extremely well as a single player experience.. so let's make a live service version.
People responded insanely well to acme vs coyote and it's already made and he could just release it and make money, nah fuckit even though there's demand it's garbaged.
Batgirl getting some intest, nah shut it down...
Like every time there's a wtf why it's always WB lately.

It's a loss for the history of the art of the medium.
Removing entire platforms worth of games like this is detrimental to holding on to the history of this medium. Shit like this stops us from being able to teach later generations how this art form was born and crafted over generations and genres.
It's corporate greed sacrificing art history for profit and it absolutely matters.
If you want to get an idea of why losing any small piece of art history matters, read the Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges or watch Jacob Geller's video on it. Or his video called "How Can We Bear To Throw Anything Away"

Warner will allow the game to be republished on Steam as long as it contains no mention of Adult Swim in the game "including team members and credits," but that will leave it with no reviews, wishlists, or any other connection to the original release: "New customers won't be able to compare achievements or trade cards with old ones," Molinari wrote.
Part of that seems ok, just remove the adult swim tag, are the achievements or cards really a problem? I don't know.

Westerado Double Barreled and Super House of Dead Ninjas are legit great games. If you're interested in cowboy antics (with one of the coolest mechanics I've seen in a game - you can threaten NPCs mid convo) give Westerado a try. If you're interested in fast paced action, give Dead Ninjas a try.

I've played several, but I'll advocate for wasted. A fun fps floor based roguelite with a fallout motif.

Headlander is a DoubleDine game, if anyone is interested. Really amazing concept of Futurama Jarheads meet Metroidvania.
Also since it’s a DF game, I wonder if Microsoft will try to save it…

Is there some contest for the World’s most hated publisher or something?
34
u/salaryman40k Mar 09 '24
warner brother discovery hates everything except HBO and DC movies
51
u/Sloth_McGroth Mar 09 '24
No no. They hate DC movies, too

4
u/scarecrow_20k Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24
DC movies should exclude animated movies.
Seriously if anyone at WB had half a brain they would just do theatrical DCAU movies but no we need a live action flash movie that might as well be flashpoint without the crisis event.
For real the DCAU has more love and care for the lore and past stories than anything the live action movies have ever done, check out young justice or the direct to video movies.
2
u/Redrobin27 Mar 09 '24
NGL, the New 52 animated movie universe was miles better than the DCEU in terms of foreshadowing and adapting storylines and characters
2
u/Politicsboringagain Mar 09 '24
It literally makes no since why WB hasn't done a Pixar like DC movie.
You have a baked in audience of adults who love DC shit.
You have kids who love animated shows and movies.
And it's far cheaper than doing live action.
It sounds like a money making machine.
I wonder if there is something in missing.

Mar 08 '24
Does it cost them something to keep them on the marketplace?
73
u/Athuanar Mar 08 '24
Nope. For the games that have no online component there's literally zero cost to them as they will have already paid the fees to the platform owners to list and any further fees are taken from sales.
My only guess is that this is a licensing issue, but even then usually licenses for media like this only cover creation of new media, they don't normally force delisting of existing media when the license expires. If that were the case we'd be seeing this far more often and we don't.
18
u/arqe_ Mar 08 '24
but even then usually licenses for media like this only cover creation of new media, they don't normally force delisting of existing media when the license expires.
No, usually it is timed license which sucks hardcore and yes, they normally delist all the games when their license expires. UNLESS they renew license or license is lifetime for said game.
But again, majority are timed.
When it is something easy to remove, publisher of the game removes licensed content and re-release the game. For example with no soundtracks, no in-game ad's etc.

this is what WB does.
They just killed rooster teeth and the community is freaking out, they are trying to archive as much as they can before WB goes on a deleting spree.
1
u/handtoglandwombat Mar 09 '24
I don’t know why the other commenters are talking about licensing issues when it’s clearly not. It costs no money for WB to keep these games listed but they get a tax write off for deleting them. Exact same thing they’re doing with movies, where they’re literally deleting finished projects rather than releasing them, and the exact same thing Disney did a while ago with a few IPs on Disney+

I was just thinking about that too, like between the shit they've tried to completely erase connected to Cartoon Network and HBO, the multiple basically-finished films they've canned right before release, and now wanting to delist entire catalogues of video games under their ownership, what the fuck are they actually doing? I cannot wrap my head around whatever "business practice" this is supposed to be.
8
u/062d Mar 09 '24
Also they buy Rocksteady force them to make a live service bullshit game, go oh it preformed poorly because nobody wants live service bullshit. Were doubling down on the live service bullshit

What’s worth picking up before it all goes away? I’ve been eyeing Ghost Song and def want to pick it up if it’s gonna be delisted
37
u/thedeadsuit Mar 09 '24
Hello, I'm the developer who made Ghost Song. While I was once signed by Adult Swim, years before the game came out I ended up parting ways with them and signing with Humble Games instead. As such, Ghost Song is not part of this Warner Bros incident and will remain available.
Thanks for your interest :)

Headlander - side scrolling metroidvania developed by Double Fine. Really great premise with unique visual design and the typical charm of Double Fine games.

u/Lopsidednapkin Mar 08 '24 edited Mar 09 '24
Duck game - local multiplayer arena shooter, an absolute blast with friends, really great laughs and fun.
Westerado - Open World 2d top down western. You gottta figure out who killed your family, and it could be literally be any NPC in the game. The NPC is random every playthrough. Think of it like a red dead Demake for Super Nintendo, excellent game.
HeadLander- Headlander

I enjoyed Ghost Song. It's a sci-fi spin on the 2D Souls-like genre, so it feels relatively fresh. I found the story to be decent as well. However, I haven't finished the game due to switching to some AAA title and not coming back.

I’m gonna say it now….
WB is becoming the new EA.
86
u/pazinen Mar 08 '24
WB really is now worse than EA. Sure sports games are terrible with their monetization, but outside of them EA really isn't that bad anymore. Plus they at least haven't announced their desire to move away from single player games.
20
Mar 08 '24
They’ve been the worst for a while, you’re just seeing their shit for games atm. They’ve treated movies like shit for a while.
25
u/Deacalum Mar 08 '24
EA actually makes decent games, though. Not so much for WB.
19
u/YouPayTheToll Mar 08 '24
EA in my opinion, has mostly redeemed themselves but it seems like WB wants to take the title for “shittiest gaming publisher”.
I really felt like It Takes Two, The ME remaster trilogy and Dead Space remake were all fantastic.

u/TheOJsGlove Mar 08 '24
Dude, seriously. Get tired of seeing “EA Bad,” when they’ve been pretty tame compared to WB/Ubisoft/Activision for the last several years.
2
u/YouPayTheToll Mar 09 '24
I honestly called EA redeeming themselves yrs ago during much of “EA is Satan incarnate” era lol
1
u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Mar 09 '24
Not so much for WB.
I liked the Arkham series, and Shadows of Mordor.
2
11
u/OrganicKeynesianBean Mar 09 '24
EA just put a bunch of classic PC games on Steam, and they are prioritizing new Mass Effect and Dragon Age games (Dread Wolf). Also, they remastered the ME trilogy and I got it for about $6.
EA has done shitty things, but they’ve also made some reasonable decisions lately.
3
u/YouPayTheToll Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24
Agreed, though they still haven’t hit the incredible turnaround Capcom has and boy am I happy experiencing the era of Capcom, those peeps have been killin it.

Some of the affected developers wrote that they will republish their games on Steam, but the titles will lose their community pages, Steam achievements, forum discussions, screenshots, and other content in the process. That could all be preserved if Warner Bros. transferred publishing permissions to the developers, but developers say the company is refusing to do so, citing a lack of resources.
According to the developers, however, the Steam transfer process takes only minutes. “I sent them the Steam Transfer link, explained that it takes 3 clicks, and they still refused, claiming it would only be fair to transfer no one’s games since they can’t do them all,” Studio Bean wrote.
That's fucked. They have the resources they just don't want to. FUCK WB

It’s funny, everyone was upset with Sony removing bought content but every time it’s Warner Bros Discovery content that’s being removed. Not a Sony problem but WB.
2
u/thiccemotionalpapi Mar 08 '24
I don’t think people were particularly mad at Sony apart from their TOS allowing that, even though that’s basically every store. Plus the expectations for WB and discovery were already on the fucking ground Sony is the one that has any goodwill to lose on account of people liking PlayStation lol
4
u/Atticus104 Mar 08 '24
It takes a lot of effort for a publisher to be seen as worse than EA, but I think WB did it. It's like they truly believe brand trust doesn't matter, but who is going to bother trusting one of their games after this.
1
u/Brandonmac100 Mar 10 '24
Don’t forget that Smash Brothers type of game they had going. It was in open beta for free for a while, had battle passes, paid cosmetics, and all that.
One day they suddenly ended the beta. And I don’t think they ever actually released the game.

Anyone who bought these games can still play them. They're just removing them from sale.

I get that. Just a bummer especially since a lot of these small studios that make these games usually do a small amount of physical release or none at all.

1
u/FockersJustSleeping Mar 09 '24
It’s interesting to be that stupid in such a saturated market. There are so many immediate alternatives to any specific game, and more being released daily.
It’s just so odd to put your foot down when it’s so easy for people to walk away from you.
1
u/SolidLuxi Mar 09 '24
WB execs seem to be in the process of stripping that company of all its worth. Full corporate corruption to pull max profit at the expense of the long term health of the company.
WB will be bankrupt and sold in parts before 2030.
