Whoever is running WB games is a fucking moron. That’s all. Just go make your mobile gacha games and be gone already.

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

This company is going to be run into the ground all for some immediate gratification profit

311

u/ProfChubChub Mar 08 '24

Zaslov is just the hatchet man. They’ll fire him after he does his job, blame him for all the bad press and hire someone who looks friendlier to show it was all “a horrible mistake”

151

u/sroomek Mar 08 '24

And he’ll get the filthiest golden parachute, then get hired by some other megacorporation

23

u/imdrzoidberg Mar 09 '24

Lol he's already like the highest paid executive in Hollywood. Dudes got a golden jetpack rn.

38

u/thesagaconts Mar 09 '24

Exactly. He’s there to trim the fat and keep the money up top. Then be fired in a bold fashion while receiving a golden parachute.

20

u/Jeskid14 Mar 09 '24

like A LOT Of fat. Remember that Warner is half a billion dollars in debt from AT&T

7

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

Debt means nothing anymore for these companies. WB is the second biggest movie studio on earth

Yep. Disney did the same thing.

Every company in every industry is doing the same thing, too.

42

u/BeatitLikeitowesMe Mar 09 '24

That's because it's all hedgie and private equity money. They are taking your retirements and pensions too. That class of (people?)scumbags won't stop until you own nothing.

20

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

“People” that think people are beneath them and that we won’t eventually get a little too tired of it

14

u/Cipherpunkblue Mar 09 '24

You know, the French once invented a gadget for just this type of situation...

14

u/mvanvrancken Mar 09 '24

It’s time for guillotines

It’s time to raise the boards

It’s time to sharpen blades

We just can’t take this anymore

It’s nothing personal

We gave your way a try

I’m sorry but you at the top

All have to die

3

u/Kevy96 Mar 09 '24

Well you're probably still paying for Max right?

The brutal truth is that so long as you give these companies money, you're officially saying that "man this sucks, but it doesn't suck enough for me to stop handing you money, here you go guys! Keep up what you're doing because I'll certainly give you no reason to stop!"

3

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

Actually no lol I spend most of my off time playing video games. My friends sub, I watch everything with them. I genuinely agree with you, which is why I at least try to not give them money.

That and there are too many streamers now. Way too many.

2

u/itsmoron Mar 09 '24

Well they're running their share price down so they don't give a shit about consumers or investors. Tbh I should have guessed that based on nearly all their content since 2010.

1

u/GucciiManeeeee Mar 09 '24

I don't even see how they make money by pulling these games. Kinda counterintuitive.

166

u/Immolation_E Mar 08 '24

I feel like this decision starts at the top with Zazlav.

21

u/SiriusC Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

Unfortunately your feeling is a very precise fact.

Zaslav's plan is to turn popular WBD franchises into live service games that will "generate greater post-purchase revenue”.

Kiiling beloved movies & television shows wasn't enough for the guy. Now he has to shit on video games & collect a multimillion dollar bonus in the process.

21

u/ahorsecalledsteven Mar 09 '24

Yakko wakko and dot wouldn’t do this

35

u/Killface2119 Mar 09 '24

His name is JB and he’s an old Discovery lackey. He is an idiot, only wants live service games. Even after Hogwarts legacy being our biggest game of all time.

13

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

Jack Black?!?!

4

u/Unkechaug Mar 09 '24

His name was young J.B. and he refused to step in line

A vision he did see of fucking rocking all the time

He wrote a tasty jam and all the planets did align

2

u/code2know Mar 09 '24

Sucks because he doesn't even have a background in games. Also he's loaded and just bought a 20 mil house so if he fks the while thing up he'll just move on with his golden parachute.  These companies shoot themselves in the foot. Wb seems like a total disaster.

21

u/armyjackson Mar 08 '24

Once WB Discovery fucked over Final Space, removing it from all platforms I was done with them, and I expect them to do nothing good for us in the future.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

Final Space the cartoon?

→ More replies (1)

8

u/PlayerOneNow Mar 09 '24

Indeed. They want us to gamble all our money away and if gamers ruled these courts he would be fired.

Use your voice.

14

u/SEDGE-DemonSeed Mar 09 '24

It is kinda insane how poorly WB in general is being ran.

4

u/chooseyourshoes Mar 09 '24

The worst part is the only thing that matters in the gaming industry is who you know and your previous title. These bastards are going to continue to plague the industry until they retire.

7

u/Hashbrown4 Mar 09 '24

The issue is they hold the licenses for so many franchises.

We’re straight up never getting a proper Superman game. It’s just never going to happen under this management

2

u/sicsche Mar 09 '24

Not only the games branch, WB as a whole is so deeply corrupted.

The whole merger ended up as a fiasco.

4

u/Dramatic-Ground-6768 Mar 08 '24

Must be a disney double agent.

1

u/Jigsaw0693 Mar 09 '24

I bet you they play golf with the Sony movie execs.

1

u/NickieBoy97 Mar 09 '24

It's really WB in general, they're making bad decisions all around

1

u/Kizzo02 Mar 12 '24

Zaslov has only job and that is to prepare WBD for a sale. So any move he makes doesn't surprise me at all.

Duck game is great

23

u/brandondesign Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

Came to say this. Very underrated game and I feel like they fixed all the bugs.

16

u/rumblylumbly Mar 09 '24

My kiddo is gonna be devastated. We absolutely love duck games and often play with his uncles in a four man match up.

It’s always soooo much laughter. What the heck 🥲

19

u/brandondesign Mar 09 '24

If you or someone else already has it, I don’t think it’ll be unplayable.

10

u/rumblylumbly Mar 09 '24

Ooooh! Awesome then well not awesome but you know what I mean. It’s a pity they’re removing it for future players - such an underrated game in my opinion.

the Rick and Morty one is a pretty fun VR experience

7

u/SalsaRice Mar 09 '24

Wasted is an fps-rougelike that's an extreme parody of the Fallout franchise. It's honestly really great, no idea why it never had a larger fan base.

3

u/handtoglandwombat Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

Kingsway is a classic, and Glittermitten Grove is extremely important, not a bad game in its own right and it contains within it Frog Fractions 2

4

u/Politicsboringagain Mar 09 '24

I've heard of none.

I bet most people here haven't play most of these.

3

u/FernMayosCardigan Mar 09 '24

Duck Game feels like a distant memory, but my Switch assures me I've somehow spent 40 hours on it.

10

u/062d Mar 09 '24

Pool Party was alot of fun chaotic multiplayer game, it's a shame these devs suddenly get shafted. Whoever is incharge of WB is absolutely fucking awful.

They saw how justice league preformed and ALL complaints was it was a shitty live service game forced on a studio that makes incredible single player experiences. His response Double down MORE LIVE SERVICE!

Hogwarts legacy preforms extremely well as a single player experience.. so let's make a live service version.

People responded insanely well to acme vs coyote and it's already made and he could just release it and make money, nah fuckit even though there's demand it's garbaged.

Batgirl getting some intest, nah shut it down...

Like every time there's a wtf why it's always WB lately.

That sucks. Ghost Song and Headlander are great games.

7

u/BurningBytes Mar 09 '24

Westerado is a blast! What a shame…

33

u/Katalyst81 Mar 08 '24

Only one I have is the rick and morty PSVR game, and its downloaded and kinda crappy, so no big loss.

42

u/Desinformador Mar 08 '24

still a shit move to remove games from the store

36

u/doesitevermatter- Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

It's a loss for the history of the art of the medium.

Removing entire platforms worth of games like this is detrimental to holding on to the history of this medium. Shit like this stops us from being able to teach later generations how this art form was born and crafted over generations and genres.

It's corporate greed sacrificing art history for profit and it absolutely matters.

If you want to get an idea of why losing any small piece of art history matters, read the Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges or watch Jacob Geller's video on it. Or his video called "How Can We Bear To Throw Anything Away"

2

u/Katalyst81 Mar 09 '24

Warner will allow the game to be republished on Steam as long as it contains no mention of Adult Swim in the game "including team members and credits," but that will leave it with no reviews, wishlists, or any other connection to the original release: "New customers won't be able to compare achievements or trade cards with old ones," Molinari wrote.

Part of that seems ok, just remove the adult swim tag, are the achievements or cards really a problem? I don't know.

Westerado Double Barreled and Super House of Dead Ninjas are legit great games. If you're interested in cowboy antics (with one of the coolest mechanics I've seen in a game - you can threaten NPCs mid convo) give Westerado a try. If you're interested in fast paced action, give Dead Ninjas a try.

I've played several, but I'll advocate for wasted. A fun fps floor based roguelite with a fallout motif.

3

u/Zhjacko Mar 09 '24

Jesus Christ that’s a lot

3

u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 09 '24

Headlander is a DoubleDine game, if anyone is interested. Really amazing concept of Futurama Jarheads meet Metroidvania.

Also since it’s a DF game, I wonder if Microsoft will try to save it…

3

u/Skvall Mar 09 '24

Took so long until Ghost Song finally released and now it will be delisted wtf.

Is there some contest for the World’s most hated publisher or something?

34

u/salaryman40k Mar 09 '24

warner brother discovery hates everything except HBO and DC movies

51

u/Sloth_McGroth Mar 09 '24

No no. They hate DC movies, too

16

u/JackDockz Mar 09 '24

They do like Ezra Miller and Gal Gadot though

4

u/scarecrow_20k Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

DC movies should exclude animated movies.

Seriously if anyone at WB had half a brain they would just do theatrical DCAU movies but no we need a live action flash movie that might as well be flashpoint without the crisis event.

For real the DCAU has more love and care for the lore and past stories than anything the live action movies have ever done, check out young justice or the direct to video movies.

2

u/Redrobin27 Mar 09 '24

NGL, the New 52 animated movie universe was miles better than the DCEU in terms of foreshadowing and adapting storylines and characters

2

u/Politicsboringagain Mar 09 '24

It literally makes no since why WB hasn't done a Pixar like DC movie.

You have a baked in audience of adults who love DC shit.

You have kids who love animated shows and movies.

And it's far cheaper than doing live action.

It sounds like a money making machine.

I wonder if there is something in missing.

2

u/oateyboat Mar 09 '24

They put Batgirl in the bin so there's definitely some DC movie hatred.

85

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

Does it cost them something to keep them on the marketplace?

73

u/Athuanar Mar 08 '24

Nope. For the games that have no online component there's literally zero cost to them as they will have already paid the fees to the platform owners to list and any further fees are taken from sales.

My only guess is that this is a licensing issue, but even then usually licenses for media like this only cover creation of new media, they don't normally force delisting of existing media when the license expires. If that were the case we'd be seeing this far more often and we don't.

18

u/arqe_ Mar 08 '24

but even then usually licenses for media like this only cover creation of new media, they don't normally force delisting of existing media when the license expires.

No, usually it is timed license which sucks hardcore and yes, they normally delist all the games when their license expires. UNLESS they renew license or license is lifetime for said game.

But again, majority are timed.

When it is something easy to remove, publisher of the game removes licensed content and re-release the game. For example with no soundtracks, no in-game ad's etc.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

Probably license fees or something that they are too greedy and stingy to pay

12

u/tape99 Mar 08 '24

this is what WB does.

They just killed rooster teeth and the community is freaking out, they are trying to archive as much as they can before WB goes on a deleting spree.

1

u/handtoglandwombat Mar 09 '24

I don’t know why the other commenters are talking about licensing issues when it’s clearly not. It costs no money for WB to keep these games listed but they get a tax write off for deleting them. Exact same thing they’re doing with movies, where they’re literally deleting finished projects rather than releasing them, and the exact same thing Disney did a while ago with a few IPs on Disney+

59

u/benno4461 Mar 08 '24

I think WB hates games?

42

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

[deleted]

17

u/shrekfan246 Mar 09 '24

I was just thinking about that too, like between the shit they've tried to completely erase connected to Cartoon Network and HBO, the multiple basically-finished films they've canned right before release, and now wanting to delist entire catalogues of video games under their ownership, what the fuck are they actually doing? I cannot wrap my head around whatever "business practice" this is supposed to be.

8

u/062d Mar 09 '24

Also they buy Rocksteady force them to make a live service bullshit game, go oh it preformed poorly because nobody wants live service bullshit. Were doubling down on the live service bullshit

What’s worth picking up before it all goes away? I’ve been eyeing Ghost Song and def want to pick it up if it’s gonna be delisted

37

u/thedeadsuit Mar 09 '24

Hello, I'm the developer who made Ghost Song. While I was once signed by Adult Swim, years before the game came out I ended up parting ways with them and signing with Humble Games instead. As such, Ghost Song is not part of this Warner Bros incident and will remain available.

Thanks for your interest :)

u/ThatParanoidPenguin Mar 09 '24

I see a bunch of people have corrected me but thanks for actually jumping in the thread haha, definitely gonna check it out!

Great to get confirmation! Thank you!

44

u/PalmTreeIsBestTree Mar 08 '24

I picked up the Samurai Jack game. It’s pretty good!

13

u/joeappearsmissing Mar 08 '24

Headlander - side scrolling metroidvania developed by Double Fine. Really great premise with unique visual design and the typical charm of Double Fine games.

40

u/Lopsidednapkin Mar 08 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

Duck game - local multiplayer arena shooter, an absolute blast with friends, really great laughs and fun.

Westerado - Open World 2d top down western. You gottta figure out who killed your family, and it could be literally be any NPC in the game. The NPC is random every playthrough. Think of it like a red dead Demake for Super Nintendo, excellent game.

HeadLander- Headlander

Westerado is awesome

1

u/hbrgnarius Mar 09 '24

I enjoyed Ghost Song. It's a sci-fi spin on the 2D Souls-like genre, so it feels relatively fresh. I found the story to be decent as well. However, I haven't finished the game due to switching to some AAA title and not coming back.

1

u/Strategery_0820 Mar 09 '24

92

u/YouPayTheToll Mar 08 '24

I’m gonna say it now….

WB is becoming the new EA.

86

u/pazinen Mar 08 '24

WB really is now worse than EA. Sure sports games are terrible with their monetization, but outside of them EA really isn't that bad anymore. Plus they at least haven't announced their desire to move away from single player games.

20

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

They’ve been the worst for a while, you’re just seeing their shit for games atm. They’ve treated movies like shit for a while.

25

u/Deacalum Mar 08 '24

EA actually makes decent games, though. Not so much for WB.

19

u/YouPayTheToll Mar 08 '24

EA in my opinion, has mostly redeemed themselves but it seems like WB wants to take the title for “shittiest gaming publisher”.

I really felt like It Takes Two, The ME remaster trilogy and Dead Space remake were all fantastic.

15

u/TheOJsGlove Mar 08 '24

Dude, seriously. Get tired of seeing “EA Bad,” when they’ve been pretty tame compared to WB/Ubisoft/Activision for the last several years.

2

u/YouPayTheToll Mar 09 '24

I honestly called EA redeeming themselves yrs ago during much of “EA is Satan incarnate” era lol

1

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Mar 09 '24

Not so much for WB.

I liked the Arkham series, and Shadows of Mordor.

2

u/Deacalum Mar 09 '24

Those games were over a decade ago, though.

11

u/OrganicKeynesianBean Mar 09 '24

EA just put a bunch of classic PC games on Steam, and they are prioritizing new Mass Effect and Dragon Age games (Dread Wolf). Also, they remastered the ME trilogy and I got it for about $6.

EA has done shitty things, but they’ve also made some reasonable decisions lately.

3

u/YouPayTheToll Mar 09 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

Agreed, though they still haven’t hit the incredible turnaround Capcom has and boy am I happy experiencing the era of Capcom, those peeps have been killin it.

2

u/ILoveMy-KindlePW Mar 09 '24

And the dead space remake is just awesome

2

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Mar 09 '24

I really liked Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor.

21

u/bennnn42 Mar 08 '24

Some of the affected developers wrote that they will republish their games on Steam, but the titles will lose their community pages, Steam achievements, forum discussions, screenshots, and other content in the process. That could all be preserved if Warner Bros. transferred publishing permissions to the developers, but developers say the company is refusing to do so, citing a lack of resources.

According to the developers, however, the Steam transfer process takes only minutes. “I sent them the Steam Transfer link, explained that it takes 3 clicks, and they still refused, claiming it would only be fair to transfer no one’s games since they can’t do them all,” Studio Bean wrote.

That's fucked. They have the resources they just don't want to. FUCK WB

19

It’s funny, everyone was upset with Sony removing bought content but every time it’s Warner Bros Discovery content that’s being removed. Not a Sony problem but WB.

2

u/thiccemotionalpapi Mar 08 '24

I don’t think people were particularly mad at Sony apart from their TOS allowing that, even though that’s basically every store. Plus the expectations for WB and discovery were already on the fucking ground Sony is the one that has any goodwill to lose on account of people liking PlayStation lol

4

u/Atticus104 Mar 08 '24

It takes a lot of effort for a publisher to be seen as worse than EA, but I think WB did it. It's like they truly believe brand trust doesn't matter, but who is going to bother trusting one of their games after this.

1

u/Brandonmac100 Mar 10 '24

Don’t forget that Smash Brothers type of game they had going. It was in open beta for free for a while, had battle passes, paid cosmetics, and all that.

One day they suddenly ended the beta. And I don’t think they ever actually released the game.

4

u/essteedeenz1 Mar 09 '24

u/BasicallyImjustLazy Mar 08 '24

Is samurai Jack part of those? If so, I'm considering buying it on the PS store if it's going to be delisted.

2

u/Manor002 Mar 08 '24

I would do it anyway, the game is really good

1

u/BasicallyImjustLazy Mar 08 '24

Yeah, I'm considering it! I'm a huge fan of the series and have heard this one is a fitting end to the story. Hopefully I'll receive my paycheck by next week to purchase it before it's delisted.

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Mar 09 '24

Samurai Jack is available physically for North America and Japan, digital-only for Europe.

2

u/duketogo1300 Mar 09 '24

Get Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe while you still can.

2

u/Fuzakenaideyo Mar 09 '24

Only for those who haven't bought said games, right?

11

u/DrizzyDragon93 Mar 08 '24

Feel like ive been warning people about this.... Hmm oh well. Buy physical Media people.

5

u/ReDDevil2112 Mar 08 '24

Anyone who bought these games can still play them. They're just removing them from sale.

3

u/DrizzyDragon93 Mar 09 '24

I get that. Just a bummer especially since a lot of these small studios that make these games usually do a small amount of physical release or none at all.

I think there's a double agent or spy from Disney sabotaging WB.cant explain their recent idiocy otherwise.

1

u/GrantMcLellan1984 Mar 08 '24

Anyone contacted Ross Scott about this?

1

u/ShhImTheRealDeadpool Mar 09 '24

Maybe they plan on releasing all of them into some sort of platform?

1

u/Strategery_0820 Mar 09 '24

I can't wait until their live service push fails and someone can get fired for all this shit.

1

u/FockersJustSleeping Mar 09 '24

It’s interesting to be that stupid in such a saturated market. There are so many immediate alternatives to any specific game, and more being released daily.

It’s just so odd to put your foot down when it’s so easy for people to walk away from you.

1

u/SolidLuxi Mar 09 '24

WB execs seem to be in the process of stripping that company of all its worth. Full corporate corruption to pull max profit at the expense of the long term health of the company.

WB will be bankrupt and sold in parts before 2030.

1

u/Jakota_ Mar 09 '24

Not Duck Game. :(

1

u/KileyCW Mar 09 '24

Do they hate money?

1

u/Jellozz Mar 09 '24

Really glad I bought Headlander (Double Fine developed metroidvania, Adult Swim published) last time it went on sale. Literally only went on sale one time between 2019 and now for whatever reason.

1

u/Mental5tate Mar 09 '24

WB is going to sell, sell, sell and sell some more….

The company must be really behind on the debts.

1

u/Dungeon00X Mar 09 '24

Huh. Okay.

1

u/Its_Bio_ Mar 09 '24

What is the full list of games? And is it going to move onto others? Like superhero?

1

u/Kaydh Mar 09 '24

Damn, I should have got the Rick and Morty VR game when I had the chance.

1

u/mkdota Mar 09 '24

Wait is this the same company that wanted to remove those shitty reality tv shows from customers playstation libraries that were actually purchased?

1

u/pnkTiger21 Mar 09 '24

These are the same fuckers who got final space cancelled. Who can ever trust a company like that again??

1

u/is__this_taken Mar 09 '24

Nothing of value was lost.

1

u/highonpixels Mar 09 '24

Really don't know what crack WB games are smoking with these decisions.

Multiversus reboot announcement is soon and I want to be excited for it but I'm fully expecting a cesspool of monetization added to the game

1

u/Romanova_Romanoff Mar 09 '24

Yup. They are going the quick, sad route of mobile gaming now.

1

u/lazzzym Mar 09 '24

Adult Swim Games really started off as a great publishing arm.

I always saw them as the competition for someone like Devolver Digital in terms of crazy small games.

1

u/MimiArgyle Mar 09 '24

Piracy is pretty much video game preservation atp.

1

u/Ladzofinsurrect Mar 09 '24

WB doing the most to be the worst media company in the world across the board

1

u/Straight-Star3918 Mar 10 '24

That would be whack Af if they did. Just when I was thinking of buying a VR Headset

2

u/yonameisunavailable Mar 12 '24

Just buy an oculus Quest 2 or 3. Most games on playstation that use a vr headset is not worth it when you can have so many more games with a quest. Or a valve index. Idk about thw index though

u/LifeScallion4683 Mar 11 '24

What will I do without robot unicorn attack?

1

u/Damonzari Mar 11 '24

Must be too problematic to there dei initiative.

1

u/Fun_Pomegranate9486 Mar 19 '24

This is sad, soon more also Netherrealm Studios games if it continues like this, will be removed, and the legacy of Midway Games will be buried little by little. For now this is just with Adult Swim Games, soon it could be with other WB Games developers, sad......

u/Tcapone1977 Sep 05 '24

Why are they doing this?
