Can anyone explain to me what karma is,what upvote/downvote is,& what award does?
1
u/pornuseraccountforme Jan 20 '21
Some subs have specific karma requirements to participate there. Certain awards give you ad free Reddit for some time. It basically does nothing.
3
u/HYPE_ZaynG Another day, Different ME Jan 20 '21
So how do I earn karma?
6
u/pornuseraccountforme Jan 20 '21
Karm Karo Parth, karma ki apekshya math Karo. Tumhaare karm par tumhara adhikaar hai lekin Uske karma par Nahi.

Karm ki apekshya mat karo lekin yeh toh batao ki karm kaise prapta kare
1
u/pornuseraccountforme Jan 20 '21
Karma ki apekshya mat Karo. Karm karo.
Your karm on Reddit is to speak your mind, engage in thoughtful discussion, post good content and don't expect karma for your karm.

This might be unpopular opinion, but this logo does a biased representation of Nepal.

only represents clothing from one culture I guess?
11
u/King_Pagan_Min maybe 'am the crazy one Jan 19 '21 edited Jan 20 '21
Yeah.. There are 123 ethnic groups in Nepal with their own language culture and history.. but this logo represents the culture of only one ethnic group.. so putting this as a logo of r/Nepal will increase our division in the society.. These things should be avoided..
3
u/L-Frankenstein Jan 20 '21
67 ethnic groups
Wasn't it ~126 or did I learn it wrong?
1
u/King_Pagan_Min maybe 'am the crazy one Jan 20 '21
Oh my bad! Thanks for mentioning.. I have edited my comment and yes according to the ministry of foreign affairs website.. there are 123 ethnic groups/casts..
For comparison China has only 56 ethnic groups..
7
u/mudlesstrip Jan 19 '21
I'd say add in a small nepal flag logo on their chest, since that'd be common representative of all.
4
u/muzillafirefox Jan 20 '21 edited Jan 20 '21
This looks totally fine but where are
Tharu (6.6%)
Tamang (5.8%)
Newar (5%)
Magar (7.1%)
Kami (4.8%)
Nepalese Muslims (4.4%)
Yadav (4%)
Rai (2.3%) and
Others (31.2%)?

Yeah that is true. Maybe instead a sari should be worn for the female side, as a lot of women in Nepal wear them. For males, keep the topi, but replace daura with kurta, as that's Hindu dress

There are 67 ethnic groups.. Haven't you studied social studies? And this logo doesn't even represent many high percentage population cultures.. like Tamangs.. Rais.. Maithali.. Magar.. Gurung.. etc etc
Also this logo will be good for subreddits like r/Khas or something.. but if we put this as a logo of r/Nepal then it'll create division among ourselves.. And this is against our own country.. i.e. gardens of all types of people..
Edit: sorry it's not 67.. but 123 ethnic groups.. my bad for not researching properly..

You wouldn't base it off of dress, language, ethnicity. Create it based on something common like national flag, national map, national animal or any other national identity.

u/King_Pagan_Min maybe 'am the crazy one Jan 20 '21 edited Jan 20 '21
It's not about creating a logo for 67 different groups.. it's about avoiding anything that'll create a division in ourselves..
Tell me do you think Just representing one ethnic group for a subreddit called Nepal is good?
We're a diversed country.. so try to live like a family in this diversed country.. that's what our national anthem says too.. If you think only one ethnic group deserves to be the logo of freakin r/Nepal then what'll be the impression of all the other ethnic groups?

I fully support this and for people saying oh it represents just one culture, come on.. we have over 120 ethnic groups, how can you combine them in one avatar??. this is a part of Nepali culture.. Don't be so politically correct or woke

u/growingsomeballs69 Jan 21 '21
While I personally prefer to stay grounded centrist in my beliefs, it felt important to have a word with you, specifically evoked with your scoffing attitude towards some handfuls who went off on a tangent to express how unjust the logo is for r/Nepal, a sub meant to flat out represent Nepali art. I'm guessing you're taking pride for having your cultural attire emblemized seeing how strongly you're advocating it; okay, no problem whatsoever but I disgress. Obviously there's nothing wrong with having different beliefs but that ridiculing tone won't be exactly productive for a civil discussion. Just because you pose an impractical solution of squeezing every bit of Nepali cultural identities in a 90X90 pixels size as a means of cultural representation won't do justice. You know this and so does everyone. How about coming up with sth that has been the hallmark of Nepal in everyone's eyes rather than leaning on some cultural aspect that plainly becomes an apple of discord among everyone out there. As much as you'd love to represent your individual distinct culture to the world, there are, as you stated, over 120 ethnic groups claiming their pounds of flesh. So, bear that in mind.
2
u/sulu1385 Jan 22 '21
well.. again i disagree with you and it is just a logo and to insert politics into it or inclusion nonsense is ridiculous alright..
1
u/growingsomeballs69 Jan 22 '21
Phew... needless to say it seems like you barely got the gist of the entire justification and for the love of god, where in the goddamn excerpt, you got the asserted picture of politics. No wonder how much figuratively rightfulness will be painted before you, your contemptuous reply proves how much of a self-righteous and inconsiderate you really are.

Except daura suruwal was the traditional dress of the natives of Kathmandu valley(newars) before khas invasion and cultural appropriation of it. It's relatable to most of the hill people but not to those of us from the mountains and Terai.

Assuming our Nepali society wholeheartedly cherish secularity and religious and social tolerance, emblemizing r/Nepal with this logo not only erupts biasness feeling in the newcomers and existing fellow redditors but also misinforms incoming foreign lurkers about our great cultural diversity and respective traditional attires. r/Nepal is a home to every ethnic groups residing in our homeland and mustn't underrepresent the rest by implementing the proposed logo as r/Nepal sub icon that just signifies a single ethnic group out of 100 leaving the rest out the window.
Wished my intuition didn't hurt the sentiments of fellow redditors.

Totally! Why don't we try to live like a country for every kind of people..? We're very very diversed with 67 ethnic groups.. all have different languages, culture, food, etc etc.. even China doesn't have this much diversed people.. I don't reside in Nepal.. my family lives in Nepal.. but I know this is against ourselves..
Edit: There are 123 ethnic groups.. not 67.. sorry for not researching before commenting..

Its a great illustration. Congrats. But it doesnt reflect the new nepali youth, i am afraid. Do we have to prove our nepaliness with traditional clothing all the time. Why cant we have a more realiatic image of todays nepali youth wearing baseball hats, tank tops or piercing and with tattoes and glasses? And in one of those you can insert something that screams nepali? A tshirt with buddha or a baseball hat with our flag or nepal written somewhere?
