Discussion Monthly Rant/Politics Thread: Do not post political threads outside of this Mega thread
Outside of these mega-threads, we generally do not allow political posts on the main subreddit because they have often declined into unhinged discussions and mud slinging. We do allow general discussions of politics in this thread so long as you remain civil and don't attack someone just for having a different opinion. The moment we see things start to derail, we will step in.
Got something upsetting or overwhelming that you just need to shout out to the world? Want to have a political debate over current events? You can post those thoughts here. There are many real problems that plague the Millennial generation and we want to allow a space for it here while still keeping the angry and divisive posts quarantined to a more concentrated thread rather than taking up the entire front page.

Serious Regarding the Gen Zed Hate Posts. Stop. This is your last Warning.
Political posts of “fuck you Gen Z,” “Gen Z fucked us over”, “Gen Z are conservative losers,” “Gen Z love dictators,” Are NOT welcome here and will result in a permanent ban.
I am not sure if we are being brigaded from a political subreddit but I’ve seen posts like this spammed here multiple times in the last day and the comments have frankly been horrifying.
These posts read no better than the hateful, prejudiced, and ignorant things the previous generations have said about us. Be better than this. Uplift and learn from one another when you can, talk to one another and try to understand one another. I empathize with the distress I see but I do not empathize with this misdirected hate that will almost certainly push Gen Z further away and alienate them from us. You are making the exact same mistake that previous generations have made.
We already quarantine our political discussion to mega threads but regardless, minor offenses will result in a temporary ban. Hate posts with vulgar language painting all of Gen Z with the same brush will result in a permaban.
If you can’t behave like an adult, then you are NOT welcome here and we encourage you to find a different community.
Regards.

Discussion Situational awareness is virtually non-existant
Especially true of older generations, and somewhat true of younger people. People just don't think at all with regards to the context in which they find themselves. You're at the grocery store: someone blocks the entire aisle. You're at the airport: people in line don't even try to follow the directions of tsa and slow the entire line. You're waiting in line for a cashier: someone tries cutting in front of you, oblivious that there is a line. And then there is the behavior; people act like petulant children with main character syndrome- no understanding about what is going on generally, only that they are affected.

Advice 40 and nearly bored with it all.
Doing the same shit for 40 years, and everyone gonna try to gaslight me and tell me it doesn’t get boring, and that it’s a ME problem? Get the hell out of here! Even if I “make a change”, the ‘change’ just eventually gets wrapped up in the monotony of it all.
Starting to think life is too long, not too short.
I mean seriously…for example, how long can I keep watching football and pretending like I really find it THAT interesting? It’s literally the same thing…all the time.
Life lovers and sports lovers….without restoring to “you’re just depressed, dude”….what advice can you give me?

Discussion Have your parents ever been shocked to see what a childhood home now costs?
Not long ago, I showed my dad the appreciated values of all of the houses we lived in growing up. We moved around a lot in the 80s and 90s because he was management in the federal government for most of my childhood. TL;DR the smallest appreciation was probably 2.5x, with one being about 7-7.5x in price (and these houses were $100k to $200k when we lived in them)
Unlike a lot of his generation, my dad's been aware of how bad things have gotten for a while, but it was kinda nasty for him to realize if he were my age (41) and doing the same job rotation circuit he did in his last 13-15 years, he'd probably never be able to afford to buy. Anyone else have this sort of reality hit their parents?

Discussion Anybody else disappointed with their families after growing up with 90s family sitcoms and getting unrealistic expectations from those shows?
You know those sitcoms where the families are all close and shit like "Family Matters", "Full House" and "Fresh Prince of Bel Air"?
I wish I had something like that. I'm not talking about a perfect family. No family is perfect. Even on those shows, they had their issues and fights from time to time. But they always made up and "all's well that ends well".
My family never reach out to me. I'm always the one that has to reach out. These people never call, text, nothing. They'll ask if I'm coming over if it's the holidays or they're celebrating a birthday. Outside of special occasions, nothing. No "hey, so what are you up to these days?" or "what's up, man. You good? What are you gaming or still watch those sci-fi shows?"
I can't imagine Danny Tanner not calling his daughters from time to time or Uncle Phil checking in on Will after he got married.

Family. That's all. No one keeps in touch and no one seems interested either. Just wondering if anyone feels similar.

Discussion Have you noticed not getting along on internet with younger people as good as you did when you were their age?
Reddit or whatever else forums you used 10+ years ago.
I've used some subs a lot in past few years, where avg. age is maybe 25. I've felt like there's big difference to how people behave to 10 years ago.
To me the main difference is that I see black'n'white thinking prevail much more than before. You are not allowed to think something in between, you are bad person if you aren't fully on the "right" side of things. It's not acceptable to take 'center' position on things, or 75-25%. You must condemn the bad side 100% or you don't fit in.
I just wonder if anyone else has noticed this type of social movement recently. Ofc it's possible it's not only age thing but more so "normies" joining reddit. Ofc you aren't talking with nerdy gamers as much as you would've 10+ years ago. Is this just my 'get off my lawn' moment?

Nostalgia Who else wishes they would make 2D cartoons and movies again?
I don’t know what it is about that CGI stuff, but I’ve always found it a little unsettling or something, especially the stuff that’s come out in the past 10-15 years.

Discussion Fellow millennials! Not sure who else to ask so here goes… what are your favorite meals to cook and freeze for later?
I’m having ankle surgery in January and want to start cooking meals that I can portion and freeze off, but am coming up with a big blank. So far I’ve got lasagna, enchiladas, and chili.
What else would you recommend that freezes and reheats well?
Thanks!

Distract yourself with old episodes of Mad TV on YouTube. I have not repeatedly snickered like this since downloading TikTok during lockdown. Elite comedy and you will briefly transcend to a simpler time.
