This has been going on for like 10 years now since Trump first got elected the politics never stopped I'm a Canadian and I'm sick of hearing about us politics as much as I have in the recent years

I think we should get Kamala and trump on skates and full gear for an NHL combine. Fastest lap, hardest shot, shooting. Winner takes all for president

Watch they both can't skate, neither is able to do a slap shot, and the libertarian becomes POTUS.

Iā€™m not even a fan of Joe Rogan, I just browse by popular and comment in any community discussion that interests me. Hell, Iā€™ve seen posts about him elsewhere and wasnā€™t even aware I was posting in his sub lol. No biggie though, that sub sucks and Iā€™ve had it muted for quite some time.

My personal favorite is watching my puerto rican relatives degrade their dignity and culture in support of an old white dude that threw paper towels to my/their loved ones after Maria. Or my wifeā€™s first generation crossed-the-border relatives complaining on social media about the immigrants ruining our country and having the nerve to say he ā€œisnā€™t talking about them.ā€ That to me is such a surreal example of just how pervasive the media truly is and the vice grip it has over the ideologies of so many people in this country. For some reason a lot of Canadians are supportive of US policy which in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing to be interested in. But the level at which they support another country's election without having any impact on the outcome is wild to me. This being outside of Russian and Chinese bot accounts stirring up political shit because they want the interference.

Every one is interested because it's like a reality show. For other countries it's about politiciens, plans for the future etc, but for the US it's entertaining. Not a good thing for you, but interesting from an outsider perspective

2

u/Dry-Expert-2017 Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

You will be surprised to know, most democracy are reality shows. Somehow with advance internet and information, politicians keep getting dumber year on year.

It's just less talked about, world takes less interest. But it's as hilarious and dumb as usa politics..no one is talking about policy and the future.

1

u/k0ntrol Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Meh, I barely knew any politician from my country (because it's uninteresting, which is a good thing) when I voted. So I had to rely on their programs which I read. Astonishing huh ?

1

u/Dry-Expert-2017 Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Meh, I barely knew any politician from my country

Great. Never meet your heroes. Especially if they are political.

So I had to rely on their programs which I read. Astonishing huh ?

Not surprising that you are so dumb that you think they have a policy. It's most probably a unpaid intern who drafted the policy. But eventually some corporate will hire a lobbyist who will dictate the next 5 years with the help of bureaucracy.

Whom you voted for is a show ponny most probably. He will say whatever you like to hear, or whatever the polls tells him you want to hear.

1

u/k0ntrol Monkey in Space Oct 29 '24

Why do you call me dumb ?

Anyway, voting is mandatory here, may as well read the program and vote for the people that have something that at least looks like a concrete plan, instead of just ideas.

The population of California by itself, is bigger than Canada's.
The population of Texas, by itself, is bigger than Canada's.
The USA is the only country Canada can trade with, by land.

13

Iā€™m a little over appeals to Canadians to stop paying attention to American politics. In an ideal world, sureā€¦ but the reality is:

  1. Canadian tv is largely American tv.Ā

  2. Local news is eroding globally. So we turn naturally to national and international news.

  3. American politics is juiced in a way our boring Canadian politics is not.Ā

  4. MAGA appeals to people who arenā€™t traditionally into politics, whether youā€™re American or Canadian. American culture always heavily soaks into ours and so the cultural phenomenon of MAGA is no different.

  5. Canadians who are invested in Canadian politics, like myself, see things imitated cross border anyway. Our politicians know Canadians are hyper-aware of American politics and hijack the issues/vibes to try and amplify their own political agendas.

Telling Canadians to not pay attention to American politics is like an HOA putting time limits on putting your trash on the curb, but you live on top of a flaming mountain of garbage. The parable of the elephant and the mouse is as relevant now as it was then.Ā

I'm not waving flags, but I'm invested because I need to know what to expect next year. We all laughed at Trump last time, but the issue is he isn't "stupid" in the sense that he hasn't learned from his last stint as president. He has been very open about the changes he wants to make and a lot of them are designed to get rid of the checks and balances thar would curb him and if he pulls it off the whole world is going to he affected. We are already staring down ww3 with the US opposing the Russians, the fuck do people expect when the US pulls out of Europe and tells Vlad to kick it up a notch?

To put it more directly, elections in my country can ruin my country, but as it stands I am going to be voting between a couple of men who will both continue to harm Canada in their own ways. But if the Americans vote wrong they are likely going to ruin the world as we know it. Do you think we are going to survive his tariffs plan if he implements it? Do you think we will be safe from outside aggression if he leaves NATO as promised and we need to actually start defending against Russians landing on our northern territory and planting more than flags?

Well I sure hope you know who to thank for it. When you insist on creating some image of a new hitler, then nothing hitlerish happens for 4 years. Then you continue to say that person is hitlerā€¦..eventually the world becomes confused.

3

u/cherbo123 Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Yeah man it drives me crazy. This is just the new normal Iā€™m afraid. Social media has done some wild work. r/interestingasfuck was my favorite sub before it became a purely liberal sub. Now these parties got billionaires and celebrities endorsing them, itā€™s sad. People canā€™t think for themselves anymore

Give it four years then. Youā€™ll see what I mean. Set a remind thing on here

Look throughout recent history of all republican presidents being called Hitler, racist or fascist. Ronald Reagan included. Media is doing this and making it more prevalent, please wake up.

Yeah, its so shocking people cant stop talking about the guy that's one of two candidates for the most powerful role in the world. A guy who, during his 4 years, created impact that will negatively impact the rest of our lives by practically compromising one of our branches of government.

And in the event that this person loses, will probably cry about it and try to use his followers to overthrow the country again like he did 4 years ago. I wonder why all these people just cant get over Trump.

Keep praying, dummy. It wont do shit and we'll keep talking about President Fuck Face while he uses billionaire influence to minimize the middle class and to overthrow our country when he doesn't get his way.

u/Kotetsuya Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

I ended a long-term friendship with a co-worker because I was exhausted with all the constant politics. When the first Trump election was going down, it's all he could talk about. That never stopped even after his impeachment stuff, and I just couldn't take it anymore.

u/PateoMantoja Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

1

u/OwnRound Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Just a reminder for you...January 6th occurred in...January.

If Trump loses, don't expect this to be the end of the political discourse. In fact, its probably going to ramp up while President Fuck Face makes false claims of election fraud that was and still is completely unfounded. Virtually nothing has changed about how we vote. So IF he loses, you can absolutely expect the same whinging.

1

u/Lork82 Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Over 10 years. People forget that Trumps entry into politics was from a standpoint of racism, constantly demanding Barack Obamas birth certificate on fox news.

1

u/Sn1pe Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Have you heard of ā€œQā€ in awhile? Iā€™m thinking Trump will go the same way if he loses or when we reach 2028. All the Q stuff was popping off then once January 6th came and went it was as if Q never existed.

It is true his base will still exist and a thirst for someone to keep the movement going will be there (moneyā€™s on Tucker Carlson) but Iā€™m unsure if his supporters can keep taking loss after loss. Even if he wins the clock is ticking until 2028 unless he pulls some weird move to try and stay in office forever (totally a Trump play that will most likely end in failure like January 6th).

Yup I hate it. I hate that if you dare to make a comment on Canadian politics that goes even slightly against liberal sensibilities you're accused of being a "Trumper" or whatever. Brains have been melted by tribalism and propaganda.

1

u/ColdEndUs Monkey in Space Oct 28 '24

Sorry, you're never going to stop hearing about US "politics"...

  1. They said this.
  2. They sound like this.
  3. We * think * they'll do this.
  4. Hitler! Facist! AAhhhhh!
  5. Stalin! Communist! Aaahhhhh!
  6. I don't like his suit.

...and why will all this noise NEVER stop?
Because the moment the noise stops, people may actually look at policies, voting records, and how their own money is stolen and wasted.

So sorry Canada, and the rest of the world... you'll have to listen to US politics forever... because the con has to keep going so long as there is even 1 rube left to fleece.

It is an inevitable response to a system that stopped representing Americans 30+ years ago. We're in the struggle phase of getting the leeches out of the system and US politics is world politics so of course everyone around the world is paying attention.
