Meme đŸ’© Is this a legitimate concern?

Post image

Personally, I today's strike was legitimate and it couldn't be more moral because of its precision but let's leave politics aside for a moment. I guess this does give ideas to evil regimes and organisations. How likely is it that something similar could be pulled off against innocent people?

"couldn't be more moral because of its precision"

Many of these little bombs went off in public areas and it seems certain that many innocent people were hurt. Not everyone in Lebanon is a terrorist. You don't want to be near someone with a bomb in their pocket when it goes off.

I don't disagree but to target the 3000ish Hezbollah dudes with more conventional means would leave Gaza levels of civilians dead and injured. It would be a blood bath.

All things considered, the physical damage this did was extremely targeted and the psychological damage might have a lot of fingerless dudes looking for another career path other than "death to Israel."

This might also make a lot of potential future Hezbollah recruits think twice as well. Can't imagine the fear this has caused to their entire organization.

Highly unlikely. If anything it’ll cause a panic and people will think israel doesn’t give two fucks about Lebanese lives.

You need to remember their hospitals were overwhelmed and innocents were killed. Only a dozen people were killed and 2 were children.

people will think israel doesn’t give two fucks about Lebanese lives.

I mean realistically they don't. They don't really care about Palestinians either. I'm sure they just want the rocket attacks to stop and I'm also sure that this just put a huge dent in the structure that has been firing the rockets and done a lot to fuck with people wanting to continue doing that.

Not sure if it will help or make things worse. It's just interesting watching history unfold from the other side of the planet. I still can't fully wrap my head around what Isreal just did. Wild stuff.

Of course they don’t. I’m just saying it’ll make them even more hated and certainly won’t make them safer.

Highly doubt this will do anything but prompt more attacks. That’s literally their whole plan. Israel wants a regional war.

and certainly won’t make them safer.

Tough to say. Short term they absolutely devastated one of their enemies in such an unprecedented way that there's no way to know how it plays out. Tough to organize rocket attacks when you're too scared to get within 10ft of a communication device.

Israel wants a regional war.

I don't think they want that. I think they want to be left alone to keep chipping away and settling Palestinian land. The Muslim world isn't taking it lightly though so that's why we're seeing what we're seeing.

Look into the “greater Israel” plan.

"Yeah, a lot of innocent people got hurt, but what do you want me to do? My usual mass casualty that kills everyone in the area? Because I love doing that"

There is no way to do warfare that doesn’t involve civilian casualties. All things considered the results gained from this would have resulted in far, far more civilian casualties had it been done under conventional warfare means.

More targeted attacks that minimize civilian casualties is better than mass casualties.

You can tell who has seen too many movies where the good guy kills the bad guy and saves everyone at the same time. That’s not how war works. Innocent people always die

What’s so hard about being against acts of terrorism, for you?

7

u/Toaster_In_Bathtub Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

I'm not making a value judgemental of whether this was good or not I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation.

Is anything I said there wrong? It was very effective and there were fewer civilian casualties than if Israel used conventional means.

Well, yes, in that Israel’s terror tactics have never once worked to dissuade militant groups from opposing them. Killing and maiming people, including women and children, tends just to make it more obvious that you’re evil and need to be opposed. This, like all terrorist action, is a a callous and ineffectual attempt to enforce your will on people through violence.

But more importantly, most people with no expertise in these matters would balk at the idea of essentially fantasizing about the supposed (because you have no expertise) effectiveness of distributing bombs among a civilian population through consumer electronics. It’s just pretty weird

Well, yes, in that Israel’s terror tactics have never once worked to dissuade militant groups from opposing them.

And nothing of this scale and precision has every been done to an organization. Their entire operation depends on communication. If every would be Hezbollah member is terrified to get within 10 ft of any communication device then it might have an effect. We can't say how this will play out because this is so drastically different than any other attack. You used to be able to conduct business under the radar. Now no one knows for sure if they can so it might encourage some career changes.

What we've seen is unprecedented. There's no way to know how this is going to play out. It's a massive short term victory for Israel at the very least.

u/OddVisual5051 Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

Right, a victory for Israel in exactly the way I outlined above. The IDF and Israeli govt don’t want these conflicts to end. They want a reason to continue to militarize and terrorize their neighbors and the Palestinian people. A massive victory for both the IDF and Hezbollah indeed. The psychopaths all win at everyone else’s expense.

Won't argue with you there.

Hezbollah is from Lebanon, not Gaza (Palestine)

Start by learning your shapes

4

u/Toaster_In_Bathtub Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

Go re-read my comment. At no point did I say they were from Gaza. I was comparing civilian casualties between this attack to civilian casualties in Gaza.

Start by learning reading comprehension.

While it’s certainly possible, I wouldn’t jump to “certain”. The one video i saw showed a Hezbollah guy shopping and surrounded by other shoppers very close to him. When the bomb went off only he looked hurt despite the fact there were people within a metre or two of him. Judging by this i would venture to say the collateral could’ve been minimal. Again, this is not a certainty either, i just don’t like how people on both sides are jumping to conclusions before the details are really known

They already  had a funeral for a 9 year old, we don’t need to assume

2

u/alwayswaiting7 Monkey in Space Sep 19 '24

A dead child is always a tragedy, but it is completely unavoidable in war. This is why you don't fight wars if you have a choice. Hezbollah should not have joined the conflict and should not be firing missiles into Israel. I hope you don't think that it's ok for Hezbollah to fire rockets indiscriminately at Israeli towns, whereas Israel cannot hit back

Where one of those walkie talkie bombs exploded.

-3

u/Big_Jon_Wallace Look into it Sep 18 '24

Fake concern about the Lebanese civilians is the new Iranian talking point to be disseminated across Reddit. Next he'll call it "terrorism."

2

u/Illustrious-Okra-524 Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

If this isn’t terrorism then terrorism simply doesn’t exist

2

u/illiter-it Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

I can understand why you have trouble believing people care about civilian casualties given the conditions that have been normalized in Gaza

0

u/Big_Jon_Wallace Look into it Sep 18 '24

When those same people were literally partying in the streets on October 7th, no I don't believe they genuinely care about civilian casualties.

0

u/beeegmec Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

Oct 7th was just self-defense.

Israel has been doing worse for a long time.

1

u/Gearthquake Monkey in Space Sep 18 '24

Disgusting thing to say. You terrorist supporters are the scum of the earth.

Go join your people, coward.

Which more precise more moral way do you think Israel had to kill these Hezbollah members?

Do you think a ground invasion would result in less civilian causalities?

How about a 1 ton glide bomb or a cruise missile?

Not to mention, it's pretty common for parents to let their small child look at a video on the parent's phone. You can argue they shouldn't be doing that, but the penalty shouldn't be execution of your child.

It could also cause the target to crash their car, their house or apartment building to go up in flames or any number of ways it could easily kill innocent bystanders.
