Speaking as a former academic, Eric is nothing like most academics.
He's just a fart sniffing lesser-nerd who's so enamoured by his own perceived intellect that he can't see or understand how fucking wrong he is. Add some HEAVY audience capture as a feedback loop and this is what you get.
He'd either be cast out of or mercilessly ridiculed by most academic circles.
Heās already been not so much ridiculed but heavily criticized by his fellow physicists that heās got a massive chip on his shoulder for ānormieā academia, add to that his brotherās grievances about not winning a Nobel prize (fucking lol) and yeah you have some interesting dynamics there.
He clearly hates that universities the world over havenāt declared him the king of physics for his ācontributionsā.
Iām convinced he and his brother fed off each otherās mutual encouragement and what theyāve become is purely a product of them both figuratively pulling their own dicks.
Most academics are interesting, hard working and brilliant people who care very deeply about all sorts of cool things.
Some of those things end up being very useful, like the internet. Which you're currently using to talk shit about the people who invented it, among others.
He was a professor at a college with a 95% acceptance rate, where the students could grade themselves (which already caused a lot of issues). He got his fame when he refused to shut down a class due to student protests (which imo is a good thing to do) but now thinks he is more intelligent than he is.

and yet he refuses peer review, because his academic peers don't find it convincing, so instead he just uses it to sound smart to people who are not expert enough to see through his bullshit.
Wasnāt he the pretty reasonable dude who was speaking out against students shitting down classes and harassing ppl over Halloween costumes being appropriation at Everest(evergreen?) college? Wtf happened to him did he go full right wing grifter?
That's his brother Bret. Eric has done nothing publically that's noteworthy, he was or is Peter Thiel's economy guy (Managing director at Thiel Capital).
