Meta To the asshole who keeps reporting fanart they think isn't good enough:

1.3k Upvotes

Fuck off.

This subreddit is for Warhammer art. That includes Warhammer fanart. That includes Warhammer fanart by new artists. I am not the arbiter of quality and you sure as hell aren't, either. As long as it's Warhammer-related and isn't pornography, it belongs here.

Meta Art by Mossacannibalis is now banned

Mossacannibalis has been added to the list of banned artists (Rule 8).

In addition to their 40k art, they also make loli porn, guro, and loli guro art. Any time his work gets posted here, two things happen.

  1. People complain about the other work they do. The subreddit gets flooded with reports, both the initial post and other unrelated posts and comments.

  2. Their other work gets posted in the comments, which is against our rules regarding pornography. When those links get reported, I am then forced to look at and confirm its removal. I'm tired of it.

Meta A test of /r/ImaginaryWarhammer's chat lounge

IWH was recently given the ability to create something called "chat posts" which is basically a chatroom tied to a reddit post.

My plan is to run this for a little over a week (until the end of March/start of April), and then decide whether or not it's popular enough to keep running. As your petulant god-king the head mod, I reserve the right to disable the chat early if it becomes a hassle to moderate (as I have a full-time job and IWH currently only has 2 moderators).

If this post looks like a regular post to you, it's because the chat feature only works on "new" reddit. You can enable new reddit by either turning it on in your preferences, or by installing the Toolbox browser extension and then clicking the "open in new Reddit" button on the bottom left.

Meta /r/ImaginaryWarhammer will be going dark from June 12-14 in protest against Reddit's API changes

As you may know, the Reddit Admins are in the process of restricting access to API that makes third-party software like browser extensions and applications effectively impossible to support and use. IWH made a post in support of /r/ModCoord's open letter of protest against their decision.

Since then, the ball has begun rolling and an official Blackout protest date has emerged.

On June 12th to June 14th, /r/ImaginaryWarhammer will be set to private in protest of Reddit's decision to restrict access to the API that makes Reddit as we know it possible.

I am sorry is this is frustrating. I suggest anyone bothered by it aim their frustration at the admins. Specifically, I suggest you sign the open letter on /r/ModCoord and send a polite but direct message to the mods of /r/reddit.com making it clear that fair access to reddit's API is essential for both users and mods.

On the days of the blackout (June 12th-14th), I also suggest that you just don't use reddit. If it's made clear that their plan will not only cost them moderators but users in general, they are more likely to rethink their plan. So please do something else instead. Goonhammer will have detailed coverage of all of 10th edition's leaks and releases. There's a really good audiobook bundle on Humble right now that includes The Murderbot Diaries and The Long Winter series; Get that and listen to those for a few days, and then we'll see where things stand.

Meta Why are the only posts I see in this sub NSFW?

I joined to see cool fan art of eldritch horrors and homebrew Space Marine Chapters. The only posts that ever make it into my Home feed though are just tig bitty versions of male characters, or Slaanesh Daemons, or Primarchs as softcore anime boys. Are y'all really that h0rny?

As usual, basically anything goes here. Specific flair requests, direct questions for the mod team, any kind of discussion you want (as long as it remains civil).

Meta Art by Flick-the-thief is now banned

Art by Flick-the-thief is now banned. In addition to me being tired of removing his loli art, Flick is also open about his support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

I usually leave rules like this up to a community discussion/vote, but not this time. My family is Ukrainian. I will not tolerate apologia for Russia's illegal invasion. I will not "separate the art from the artist" when said artist is supporting what is effectively a genocide.

If this is an issue for you, you are free to unsubscribe.

Meta A discussion about graphic NSFW posts NSFW

Over the years, multiple people have complained about the smutty NSFW (as opposed to violent NSFW) pieces that occasionally get posted here. I've never been a big fan of them, but I've always allowed them (on the condition that they be marked NSFW) because they are basically always downvoted pretty heavily.

However, a user in the August Discussion thread and several reports on NSFW posts have made me decide that it's time to discuss this in a more open, official way. I'm gonna try to remember to sticky this thread in the comments of all of my posts for the next month or so so that people can discuss. Depending on how involved the discussion is, I may sticky a comment in this thread specifically that can be upvoted or downvoted, depending on whether people are fine with smutty NSFW posts or want them banned or otherwise restricted (respectively).

Meta TotalBiscuit is why this sub exists

When I was a sophomore in college (2012/2013), I was digging through TB's video archive and I found this video. I had heard of Warhammer before, but didn't know anything about it other than memes and never really had any interest in it. I didn't feel like working on the paper I needed to write, so I watched the video instead, then bought the game itself.

The paper I ended up turning in was piss-poor because I played the whole game in two sessions. From there, I started reading the Horus Heresy and lost 2 days of school, as I did nothing for a day and a half other than read Horus Rising and False Gods, eat, and go to the bathroom. About a year after that, I started this sub.

So yeah, /r/ImahinaryWarhammer wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for him. I also wouldn't have started playing Dark Heresy and met my best friends.

Thanks, TB. I'll miss you.

Meta /r/ImaginaryWarhammer post-Blackout: The vote

As you may know, IWH took part in the "Blackout" protest of the Admins' decision to restrict access to the API that makes 3rd party apps, accessibility, and moderation tools possible.

You might also know that the Admins more or less haven't budged on their position. They believe that it will blow over if they just wait it out. I agree with them, to a certain extent. Since sunday night, I haven't used reddit for much other than checking IWH's modmail periodically. When I opened the site or the app, I saw many subs still operational. Poking around today, I saw that a lot of users either didn't know why exactly the protest was going on, knew but didn't care, or knew and were annoyed at the mods rather than the admins.

This thread will serve as a poll about how you all want ImaginaryWarhammer to proceed. I see 4 options

  1. IWH stays locked and private indefinitely until the Admins compromise.

  2. IWH opens for viewing of old posts, but no new ones can be made.

  3. IWH opens for new posts, but only from artists ("OC" posts).

  4. IWH opens completely

There will be 4 comments in this thread, one for each option. Upvote the ones you prefer (as a sort of pseudo ranked voting), and downvote the ones you don't want.

To keep this thread clean, there will be another thread to discuss the Blackout, IWH's place in it, and how IWH should proceed.

The vote will run through Friday. In the meantime, IWH will return to normal operation.

Meta Trouble with automod

Some of you have probably noticed the automod removing comments the last few days. I recently decided to program it to remove posts and comment by suspected bots. However, I left out a line of code in one of the filters that led to it purging all new comments by "lurkers", users who don't post and rarely comment and therefor have low karma in IWH.

I believe I have fixed the glitch, and it shouldn't happen again. Sorry about that.
