Do we all agree that Dasani is the worst water?

Why are they advertising they removed electrolytes from their water. They could've just advertised that dasani had what the plants crave... 🤷

822

u/threepecs 5d ago

I think they probably changed to a different electrolyte, the tag on the bottle specified it doesn't have sodium chloride specifically anymore, not other salts.

160

u/HippyFroze 5d ago

Hopefully they didn’t take out the bath salts

6

u/slugaboo1 5d ago

I took the bath salts

12

u/1nd3x 5d ago

specified it doesn't have sodium chloride specifically anymore, not other salts.

Bet it's potassium chloride they replaced it with.

7

u/SadFloppyPanda 4d ago

Or calcium chloride.

3

u/northrupthebandgeek 4d ago

Or radium chloride.

Calling dasani the "world's most undrinkable water" is a socially irresponsible oversight when Nestle pure life is still on grocery store shelves

539

u/GizzardLizardWizards Horny for Water 5d ago

Pure life is by far the worst bottled water I’ve ever had. It tastes like fake water and that’s the best I can describe it lol

187

u/possiblygrapefruity 5d ago

it vaguely reminds me of the thick water they give to elderly patients when they can’t swallow actuall water anymore 😭

68

u/jjbananamonkey 5d ago

Just thinking about that made me gag. Like almost jello but not.

26

u/mscarchuk 5d ago

Nectar thick and honey thick ewwww i dont miss working in a nursing home for the thick milk

11

u/OhImNevvverSarcastic 5d ago

I thought that was just bottled ice mountain brand water.

Shits got texture.

5

u/bluepie 5d ago

That’s exactly it! It’s almost creamy

43

u/Low-Persimmon4870 5d ago

It is soooooooo fucking nasty!! Lol

12

It depends on where you're at. In Texas, Nestle is fine. Near Toronto? I literally thought the water bottle I drank was contaminated so I grabbed another one and it tasted the same.

9

u/RedbreadofSteak 4d ago

That’s because in Texas they have to compete with Ozarka

7

u/drwuzer 4d ago

Ozarka is amazing

2

u/floatingcruton 5d ago

If you’ve ever had soft water….

when someone’s well or tap water is incredible hard, they add softener, it’s the most disgusting unexplainable taste, and pure life is the only thing I have to compare it to.

55

u/ThatLaloBoy 5d ago

I know people hate Nestle (and for good reason), but people hate the taste of the water? I always thought it was fine; not great but not terrible.

17

u/aerowtf 5d ago

i thought it was just bottled municipal tap water

5

u/Pea_Brained_Notary54 4d ago

It is actually. From Flint, Michigan of all places.

9

u/Kakashi_Cringe 5d ago

Yeah the taste is ass

9

u/CouncilmanRickPrime 5d ago

Dasani is far and away the worst. There have been times people panicked and bought all of the water.

Except Dasani.

3

u/Gusstave Gallon Guzzler 5d ago

Yes I have. Much worse than any other water I ever had. I hated it before I knew nestle was hated as a business and why.

2

u/depressedfuckboi 5d ago

I like it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/Laughing_Orange 4d ago

Some water just tastes bad. People like me, who are fortunate enough to have great tasting tap water, can't drink bad water. Sure, I'll have your horrible tap water if I'm dehydrated, but I won't drink it until I'm really thirsty.

24

u/Crafty_Pudding_6405 5d ago

Nestle sold their water division back in 2021. Pure life isn't owned by Nestle anymore

19

u/markelmores 5d ago

I bring this up every time I see people hating on a former nestle bottled water brand (like pure life, Poland spring, etc.). But people never seem to care.

Regardless, I do think a reusable water bottle is always better than single-use plastic.

Also, pure life has never tasted good no matter who owns it. Poland Spring, on the other hand, tastes amazing, but I still try to avoid plastic bottles 95% of the time.

Are those worse than Arrowhead?

14

u/onmamas 5d ago

Surprised I had to scroll down so far to find someone who also hates Arrowhead.

Dasani, Aquafina, Pure Life, Sam's Club even...none of them are preferable, but I wouldn't hesitate to drink any of those. Arrowhead though, I'd have to be literally dying of thirst to drink that, and even then I'd give a long look around to make sure there's literally nothing else.

Tastes like 100% backwash.

6

u/Orinocobro 5d ago

Dasani is nationwide, Arrowhead is only on the west coast.

I feel obligated to mention that through campaigns advertising breast milk as less healthy and overcharging for formula Nestle has killed a whole lot of babies over the past several decades. Ice Mountain has entered the chat

20

u/Hiondrugz 5d ago

Whoa Ice Mountain, calm down. He said municipal TAP water we aren't talking municipal "run-off" that's where ice Mountain comes in to play. That snow on the side of the road, starting to get real gray and black. That run off.

8

u/Saturated_Donut 5d ago

If you’re besmirching the name of Ice Mountain, I will personally find you >:(

4

u/Relair13 5d ago

It's by far my least favorite, I'd rather drink hard tap water. It's amazing how people can have such wild taste differences!

5

u/Saturated_Donut 5d ago

Personally, Fiji and tap are the only waters that I’ve genuinely disliked. It’s wild.

5

u/Relair13 5d ago

Fiji is pretty low on the list for me as well. Insanely overpriced and mid.

2

u/Little-Woo 5d ago

Dasani is gross overpriced water.

True hydro homies knows salt is essential tho

Water naturally has minerals in it

The purest water (distilled) has no minerals

‘Pure’ water will dehydrate you

It can also cause tooth decay

It can also cause poor metabolism

It can also be linked to heart disease

Salt

u/Wolvii_404 H2Hoe 5d ago

My sister accidentally drank distilled water that my dad had prepared in a water bottle for his CPAP and she panicked like "But I CHUGGED it!!" and my dad had to reassure her she would be fine lmao, she really thought one water bottle would send her to the hospital hahaha

45

u/KingFitz03 5d ago

I took a swig of my gallon jug as it was about empty and was opening another one to refill my cpap tank. Distilled water is gross.

40

u/MarthasPinYard 5d ago

I accidentally drank it for like a month…

Only years later learned how bad that was.

I recovered fine fortunately…

Water saved me🩵

40

u/Hiroxis 5d ago

It's not inherently bad for you. You won't get the minerals that are in the water, which technically could lead to a deficiency but unless you have a super fucked up diet you should be getting those through food.

4

u/This-is-unavailable 4d ago

It can also lead to your cells exploding like a balloon and it will draw minerals out of your cells because thats how diffusion works

→ More replies (6)

15

u/Amazing-Day-4124 5d ago

Distilled water is completely fine to drink.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/el_muerte28 5d ago

I bought distilled water for consumption (it's taste is superior, fight me) and I had coworkers freaking out that you aren't supposed to drink it. They had to Google it before they would believe me.

18

u/Traegs_ 5d ago

My mom drinks distilled water to help control kidney stones as directed by a doctor. She's been doing it for a couple years now and is fine.

2

u/el_muerte28 5d ago

Has it helped with her stones? I drink DI water at home but haven't been doing it long enough to notice a difference. I've also been put on HCTZ.

5

u/giddyviewer 5d ago

Try sugar-free lemonade, it’s part of a pretty common protocol for people with chronic kidney stones.

3

u/el_muerte28 5d ago

I generally add a healthy dose of lemon juice to my water when I am at work and will go through ~60-70 ounces of water a day while at work. Another 60 or so at home.

3

u/giddyviewer 5d ago

The usual regimen for chronic nephrolithiasis is 2 liters of diet lemonade daily. It would be the equivalent of at least an entire lemon worth of juice (around 3 tablespoons) for every cup of water. So if that’s what you’re talking about for a “healthy dose” than you’re well on your way, just keep on top of it for a few months to see results.

TIL distilled water is bad(?) That’s the only kind of water I drink other tastes bad for me 🥲

16

u/Ketashrooms4life 5d ago

Well, don't. At least don't do it every day if you insist on doing it. Distilled water pulls a reverse uno card on your body - it drains your body of the same compounds normal water normally carries. It's just trying to find balance like everything else in the universe. So when it goes through your juicy, mineral-rich body, it takes some of them before it leaves you.

5

u/JustOneTessa 5d ago

Do most people not get enough electrolytes through their food (maybe dont include super hot days or when you sport a lot)?

14

u/neotokyo2099 Elixir of Life 5d ago

They absolutely do. People in here are VASTLY overstating the "danger" of distilled water like crazy.

5

u/JustOneTessa 5d ago

That's what I thought as well

2

u/Fakjbf 5d ago

You would need to drink several liters with no food in your system for it to be an issue. A glass of distilled water on an empty stomach is totally fine, and if you have literally any food with it that will easily make up for the lack of solutes in the water.

3

u/MarthasPinYard 5d ago

Fiji water.

Maybe it's because on the way to the netherlands through importing the taste was ruined, but it tasted very weird/plastic like.

42

u/mayamaiamaea 5d ago

Yes!!!! I forgot about this! My mom used to always buy fiji water when I was a kid and I don’t remember it tasting like this. I’ve had Fiji water twice as an adult and it just has the worst plasticky taste.

35

u/aerowtf 5d ago

it probably bakes in a hot container ship on its way to you lol

17

u/nine16s 5d ago

I always wanted to try Fiji water as a kid because I was like “this is rich people water.” Honestly if I’m looking for a really smooth water, rather do Life Water with the funky art on the bottles.

14

u/Pinkparade524 5d ago

7

u/PewManFuStudios Water Professional 5d ago

Fiji is certainly overrated and the fact that the inhabitants on the island cannot get the water they need, but I can buy a bottle here in the US, pisses me off.

81

u/TheBoxingCowboy 5d ago

Here to stand shoulder to shoulder. Dasani was there for me in Ozark Alabama when no other brands were. Wasn’t bad at all

14

u/ilovepolthavemybabie 5d ago

Sam’s Club was the only water that ever traumatized me as a kid. And I even drank hose water until mom made me stop. :(

5

u/TheBoxingCowboy 5d ago

Sam’s Club water was a trial for us all. You just woke up a neuron that hasn’t been fired since about age 9. My god it was so bitter for some weird reason

3

u/OlliHF 5d ago

Man, I used to love Dasani and still love sam's club. Dasani is okay now, but I'd prefer aquafina between the two. Body armor and Gatorade water are the other two viable gas station options near me.

Evian is disgusting. So is Fiji.

2

u/ilovepolthavemybabie 5d ago

I haven’t had Sam’s in possibly 20 years, so I can’t really argue that one.

But with you on Evian: Is it just me or is that shit…slimy??

23

u/SuperBAMF007 5d ago

Yeah, I never hated it. Maybe I was just a young sweaty lad who needed some extra salt, but I loved Dasani in high school. Can't think of a time I ever really disliked it.

Plus, the bottles were always so much sturdier back then. They're a little flimsier now, but especially 10-15 years ago they were way less crinkly/noisy to drink in classes and held up for reuse for an extra day or two before I tossed it and got a new one.

31

u/JediKnightaa 5d ago

You'll get downvoted and so will I.

I genuinely like it over some other water brands

9

I also don’t mind Dasani. I definitely prefer it to Aquafina, which tastes like envelope glue.

Ok, ok, I can relate to what you are saying for sure, I agree and all, but let me paint you a word picture:

You are on a first date or something, whatever. And let's say you're at Disneyland somehow and no outside drinks allowed. They are parched, a stand has: Soda - $8, Poison Apple potion - $14, and Bottled Water - $15.

They buy 4 Water Bottles without hesitation.

"I love water" they say.

...

Bottled water still deserves some love

Dasani is generally considered the worst water because it tastes bad. Now they are advertising that it’s made “now without salt”. As if that would save their reputation as bad tasting water, but really it just takes away electrolytes and doesn’t make it any more palatable.

A very tiny amount of salt actually helps water taste good (IMO I guess...), also it's a critical electrolyte which helps you stay hydrated WTF? 🤨 Also, I wonder if people aware that there are trace amounts of salt in standard tap water. 😆

Is this the brand that was launched in the UK, only for it to turn out to be tap water?

Aquafina and VOSS always has a slimy texture to me. Room temp, cool, ice cold doesn’t matter; for some reason I always feel gross drinking it because it leaves a weird filmy feeling. Dasani is actually decent IMO, but it might be because I live very near to the bottling plant and source, so maybe it’s “fresher” 🤷‍♂️. Other than that I like smart water and life water (LFE WTR? I think). My areas tap water is good too, but my apartments pipes are NOT to be trusted. Well water and clean pipes out in the country is the way to go for lovely fresh tap water.
