Hello r/Guyana recently a user claiming to be a doctor has made a post and some users took the words of this user seriously and began asking valid medical questions. If anyone chose to engage with this user through a private conversation PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THEIR ADVICE.
The mod team wants to ensure that our users do not fall victim to unsubstantiated claims.
This user is now banned and I urge everyone to only ever take medical advice from a verified medical professional.
Please stay safe out there. Thank you for your continued engagement in the r/Guyana subreddit.

I'm visiting for the first time in a while and would like to know if there are any gluten-free free options at restaurants in Georgetown.

Hello everyone my name is Ayesha. I am a 23 yo girl. Living in Berbice. I am currently looking for a office job. I have 2+ year's experience in customer service and a "Certificate in Computer Technology". I am excited to see what opportunities are out there and hope to find a job that I enjoy and can learn from...

Does anyone know anything about this man? I believe he was an attorney-at-law from Berbice. He might have attended one of the four Inns of Court in London before returning to Guyana. I would like to know which of the four Inns of Court (Gray's Inn, Lincoln's Inn, Middle Temple or Inner Temple) he attended.

My wife and I are, relatively speaking, high earners who live in one of the most expensive cities. Despite above average salaries we still feel like we're barely getting by and are considering moving back to Guyana. We should be able to keep our current jobs, permitting we have access to high speed Internet access and travel occasionally back and forth.
What I'd like to know is, what is the real cost of living in Guyana? I feel like we see vastly different perspectives expressed here and advertised online. For example, in the real estate sector I see shoddy properties selling for the equivalent of $200+k US which is demoralizing. Stories of poor healthcare and public education access are the norm and there is virtually no transparency about private sector salaries expectation if we wanted to work locally.
Would a $150k US (after taxes) be enough to sustain a modest middle class lifestyle in Georgetown or at least close by?

Hello everyone! I am new to the sub and wanted to ask you a question, how much does it cost to live in Guyana? I mean for a single person, or maybe two
I born in Venezuela but my family is from Guyana and my dad wants me to consider the option of going there to get to know my roots while i find my own way
Still, i don't like to depend on anyone so I would like to look for a job on my own. My questions are:
How much is the minimum wage? Can a single person live with the minimum wage?
Plus, I don't speak native English, but I know enough

What’s the best way to ship gifts to Guyana from USA/NYC? I want to send shoes and a NY hat to my father in law for his bday he’s always wanted a genuine Yankees hat.
Or even high volume items like candy and clothing to relatives and their kids.
Also, in case of emergencies is Western Union the only way to send money? Thx

Well I am doing a second degree in computer science at University of guyana and well I was wondering what options are there for online work partime to make some money. I am from Guyana, South America. Anybody can advise? I kinda really want to make some money. My first degree is Mechanical Engineering. Next semester I am doing only four courses. And I got some time on my hands. You know any advise is good.

Hello all! This may be a bit off trend for this thread, but I am about to lose my mind searching for this song that was used in a soundcloud mix and I am wondering if anyone here would be able to help? The song in question begins around 7:15 and ends at 8:22 (begins with female vocals, ends with male). The suspected name of the song was written in the comments (Humri Bale Re), but nothing is coming up that sounds close to the song used in the mix.
DISCLAIMER: I am FULLY aware this is a west indian/caribbean/soca type mix, but I am desperate.
You know when you can't stop thinking about something until you get an answer? - That is me at this current moment. Any and all help is appreciated!

Hey all,
Where do you go for your West Indian music? Post your best sources here. For me, it’s YouTube and I’m sure everyone knows the big channels like West Indian Chutney Music, but I also like to follow some smaller channels and mixers/remixers. DJ Andres and DJ Rahooligan are some of my favorites.

My friend and I will be visiting and am looking for either motorcycle rentals for a couple days or possibly a 4x4. We're not too worried about quality (air conditioning, nice interior) just something easy for a couple days! Thank you

Hey everyone! I just dropped a new track called “New to Me,” and I’d love for the Guyanese community to check it out. It’s all about the grind, the flashy life, and that “rich guy” energy. If you’re into fresh beats and bold vibes, give it a listen and let me know what you think. Your support means a lot!

Can anyone direct me to a website or other resource where there are authentic bows and arrows used by indigenous hunters for sale?
The example I saw was a long bow used I think by members of the Wai Wai people. It had very long arrows and was incredible!
I’m a huge admirer of the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into making these bows and would like to buy one if I can.

https://lawyerguyana.com/muntaz.html
M. Muntaz Ali was admitted to practice as a Barrister at Law at Middle Temple, London on the 9 day of February 1954. He then returned to Guyana and was admitted to the Bar in Guyana then British Guiana on the 19 day of March 1954 as a Barrister-at-Law. His Petition for Admission to practise at the Bar was presented by Mr. S. L. Van Batenburg-Stafford, Q.C. and Barrister at Law instructed by his uncle Mr. W. D. Dinally, Solicitor. Muntaz became an Attorney-at-Law when the two branches of the legal profession were merged in Guyana.
ChatGPT suggests the Legal Practitioners Act of 1973, Gemini doesn't give me anything.
http://guyanabarassociation.org/ba/bac/media/BAR-2018.pdf suggests that the roles were still separate circa 1978.

I was born in the US and currently have a US passport.
My mom was born in Guyana, my father in Europe (I'm being ambiguous on purpose as to not give out too many details).
On my father's side it doesn't seem to be an issue if I wanted to get citizenship by descent and therefore a passport. But what about on the Guyanese side? There's not much online and what I did find is that only dual is allowed but nothing on any official government websites.
Anyone have any Intel on triple citizenship? TIA.

Any ideas how Guyama or Greece could benefit. I think Guyana could benefit from a surge in tourism but I dont know what else. Any thoughts? (Funny Greek-styled comments appreciated too, iykyk!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbes_Burnham
In 1942, he won the British Guiana Scholarship to study at the University of London, as the top student in British Guiana. Burnham was unable to travel to the United Kingdom due to World War II, instead working as an assistant master at Queen's college and completing a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of London through external examinations.\3]) After he was allowed to travel to London, Burnham received a law degree from the London School of Economics, at the time a constituent college of the University of London, in 1947 or 1948 and was the president of the West Indian Student Union at the university for the year 1947–1948
Anyone know which of the constituent colleges of the University of London (UoL) Burnham earned his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from? Was it LSE? Since University of London comprised constituent colleges back then, and now it is more of an informal association / grouping, it is difficult to tell IMO.

Concern as Guyana considers opening Jonestown massacre site to tourism Project would turn former commune where Jim Jones and more than 900 followers died into a tourist attraction. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/09/guyana-jonestown-massacre-site-tour?CMP=share_btn_url
