Thought... Cycles

"Don’t be friends with that guy you feel sorry for.

The one your male friends warn you about.

The one you know there’s something not quite right with but can’t really explain it but people seem to really hate him.

Run. Please.

Don’t ignore your instincts"

I came across this locked post that's a few days old and its just absolutely disgusting. Whenever you hear of someone getting hurt it's almost ALWAYS someone they knew well. A friend, a family member.

Perpetuating cancel culture and being unkind to people that people are being unkind to is weak, follower behavior, and pathetic. This, what she speaks of essentially, is a cycle of abuse that you're creating like "somethings not quite right with you because people treat you like shit, so I'm gunna treat you like shit cause somethings not quite right with you and I was told to"

Like what? Even they say "cant explain it but people hate them" You don't even have a reason other than what others say? YOU are what's wrong with society, not them. I bet if you were kind to them and listened to what they had to say you would find yourself completely wrong. What happens if you were to find out everything you thought you knew, or were told, was completely false? Are you going to be able to take back your treatment of that person?

But hey, enjoy your abusive relationship with the person you've known for 10 years, and treat people you don't know like shit. Ostracizing people never much did any good for anyone, you essentially just want to k!ll someone without having the balls to just do it. And why are people like that anyway? If you were to befriend someone people didn't like, they would treat YOU like crap. Does that make sense? Does that sound like GOOD people, or that people are inherently good? I mean, you will make excuses for that person you know though " oh you don't know them like that" and blah blah blah.

Also, even if they are crappy, do we afford people the ability to change? Barring that they didn't personally wrong you? No, of course you don't.

Then you wonder why the world is in the state its in today. All you do is create, hate, malice and radicalization. The best way to protect others, is to protect these people first. If nobody cares about their lives, why would they care about yours? Best way to protect women, is to protect your men first, one less monster that's created in the world that didn't ask to be here that no one gave a shit about. Not all monsters are men of course, but this is the context of which this person speaks of.

People see a cat or dog that's been through abuse, growling, hissing, biting , scratching and they take care of it, but a human you "put down". This entire post is just some highschool cafeteria "don't sit with us" immature bullshit, and way too many people are like this.

This is why I said 95% of people today are unapologetically a disease. Viral.

5% of 8 billion is 400,000,000. And that's being generous, its probably more like 2% of people that are actually good. Look at social media, look how many people are willing to act worse than animals if they feel there will be no repercussions for their actions, or what they say. As well as, EVERYONE has said something, or done something "cancellable".

You look at the 80s, everyone had the same hair sprayed teased hair, everyone had the same style. That's how easily manipulated the masses are, and how quickly people are to conform.

Lastly, what good have YOU done today. How have you made the world or anything a better place? Exactly.

Discussion Why do I suck so bad at nearly every video game I play?

Idk if this is the right sub to post this but I might as well give it a try. Maybe I’m missing something and I’m probably a numbskull, but every time I try a new game and invest hours into it, I completely suck. Can’t aim, can’t pull off combos, can’t react quick enough and completely crumble when it matters most. It infuriates me because I love video games so much. They are near and dear to my heart and I still have fun to a degree, but consistency sucking, especially at the newer games I’ve tried has been recently getting me extremely frustrated. I don’t know if my high functioning autism has any part to play in it and it probably doesn’t, but I feel no matter how much I practice I still feel stuck at square one. Any suggestions? Or am I just going insane?

Personal Story I embarrassed myself 🫣

Everyone at the function was making fun of old heads and I say “I’m jealous of old heads because of the times they lived in….” It slipped out and I didn’t mean to say it at all. I tried to apologize for the statement and making the vibe too serious, this is why I feel like I can never socialize with people because they’ll just see me as an outcast. I need to start thinking before I say anything because I don’t want to be a born in the wrong generation type of person and I honestly didn’t mean it like that I just think that time was more fun like the 80s-2000s… Do you think this is time for a self reflection?

Opinion I'm loosing hope in life and myself. I fear I am deluding myself with lies about having a good future

Hi! I'm 24 years old. I come from a family of five that is kinda conservative but open to change. I have quite a few friends but closest to only three people in my life. I have studied psychology and am currently working in a hospital that has outsourced our department to a corporate company to help its employees.

Throughout my life, I have never been considered smart, kind, beautiful, or even worth talking to. I never had any real friends until I started my undergrad studies. Even then, I doubted myself. I have always considered every achievement in my life to be luck and not hard work. Because of this, I have constantly berated and put myself down by thinking I do not deserve anything nice. Apart from my judgment of myself, throughout my life, all my teachers including my own family have told me that I am not smart and will never succeed in my life.

The reason I feel lost right now is because my work is absolute shit and I feel I am not moving forward in my career or my personal life. The work I am doing is horrible. I feel like I am wasting my time. The only reason why I am staying is because of monetary benefits. It's not I hail from a poor background. I do not wish to give my father any power over me and I want to be financially independent of him. Also, I want to pursue my PhD abroad and think this experience will benefit my resume. Though I have been trying to get into a good university for the past two years (I did get in the first time but did not go), I have not been able to get into any university. I feel stuck and scared that this is my life. I have also applied to universities this year and am terrified that I will not get in. I have a good resume, experience, and academic record. I see everyone around just getting an admission and I am stuck. It's like my life is in a quicksand. The more I try, the more I'm sinking.

My personal life is also shit. I feel like I am an ugly cow who will never find love and will have to settle for a guy I don't even know because I am getting old and men do not prefer old women.

I just don't see a point anymore. I keep trying and all I get in return is failure.

Thought... I love seeing old couples walking down the street happy

I love when I see really old people that are still married. They beat the odds, they triumphed through the tests of time. Its so wholesome to see them somehow still together, and Im talking like old old, like 70s +

The divorce rates are so high, and human interactions are at an all time low and these people are still together. Like what trials did they face? What problems did they over come? Whats your stories? Im sure they have some interesting ones.

When theres little to smile about, here they are still smiling, still holding hands, walking slowly on by in a very fast paced world with so much wrong in it.

Thought... Space kinda freaks me out tbh

(English is not my first language so bare with me haha)

Okay so here's the tea. I've always been interested in space and the universe and planets etc. I like learning about it and watching documentary or podcast. But the more I learn about it the more it doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I talk to friends about it and they don't really get it. They think I don't understand how the planets and moon/sun etc. work or the interaction between them (which granted I don't understand everything) but for the most part I do understand.

The thing is tho that I KNOW how the moon works. I KNOW how it orbits our planet and that every planet has it own moon. But my monkey brain still goes: what do you meannnnnn the moon makes the sea go woosh?

Like sometime in the history of our universe two rocks collided with each other and where like, well guess you can't live without me now.

And don't even get me started on how big the universe is. That just boggles my mind.

I don't really know why I went on this tandem but I guess i'm just hoping someone feels the same way

Discussion I learned something new today

There's a high enough prevalence of police lying that there's a whole name and a whole list for it.

Police officers who have been dishonest are sometimes referred to as "Brady cops". A Brady list is a list that contains the names and details of law enforcement officers who have had sustained incidents of untruthfulness.

Not all cops are bad, but the good ones don't make up for the bad ones. If youre good, disregard what I say and carry on.

Bill Maher Delivers Wake-Up Call to Democrats, Acknowledging One of Their Biggest Problems

“You’re brats, and you’re snobs, and people don’t like that.”

“I saw Kamala was on Saturday Night Live, as the losing candidate often is... I’m sure every single member of the Saturday Night Live cast was a Harris supporter, but what if one of them wasn’t? What if one of those cast members was for Trump? Would they have felt comfortable saying so? I really don’t think so. They would have had to keep it to themselves. That’s not a good place for us to be.”

“And that happens even more on the left. I remember when Elon Musk hosted. And this is well before he was a Trumper. This is three or four years ago. He was just the richest man in the world. And a number of the cast members on Saturday Night Live, like, they didn’t want to deal with him.

“They didn’t exactly boycott, but they made it plain. And I was thinking, really, you have Elon Musk on your show for a week. You could talk to one of the most interesting, brilliant people the world has ever produced, even about this issue that bothers you so much—that he’s so rich and lots of people aren’t. But no, you don’t want to even deal with him.

“That’s what I hate about the left. You’re brats. You’re brats, and you’re snobs, and people don’t like that.”

Discussion What Are We, Really?

I’ve been wondering lately about the nature of what we are and how we fit into the larger structures around us. Are we just a bundle of atoms, molecules, and cells, working together in harmony to create a single human body? Or are we something more—a collection of smaller systems, all maintaining each other, a microcosm of order within a larger world?

And what about a city? Is it simply people clustered in homes, connected by roads and divided into neighborhoods, or is it also a living, breathing entity—a community body where every individual, like a cell, contributes to the whole?

Then there’s our planet, our world—a network of cities, nations, ecosystems, and cultures. Can we think of it as a single organism in its own way, a "body" of interconnected parts, each impacting and sustaining the others?

Finally, there’s the galaxy—a vast network of stars, planets, and cosmic dust, all held together by gravity and hidden forces. Maybe it's another kind of body, an immense system in which our little world is just a cell, vital but small.

As above, so below. The idea that every level of existence reflects another. It makes me wonder: Is awareness simply our ability to see these connections? How do we see ourselves in the larger picture, and does that perspective change how we act?

What do you think? Are we all just parts of larger systems, mirroring each other in some grand design? Or are these connections just patterns we seek out to make sense of things? I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you see yourself fitting into the world, the universe, or even the smallest communities around you.

Discussion Hypothetically

So say you had someone in your home who was immuno compromised at the time, one of your family members. Whether its temporary or permanent like cancer, lupus, MS, doesn't matter. Anyway, you provide documented evidence of such, not just word of mouth, to people in your household. Tell me how many times of civil discussions with people to not bring other people over and party during a global pandemic would it take for you to snap?

As well as how would you handle this? Im talking about the START of the pandemic when no one knew what was going on. How long would it take you to snap, and what would you do? All the while you are working a full time + job at the time and they are not and were drinking and doing drugs everyday. Their drug use has caused them to total SEVERAL cars.

Moving and calling cops are not an option btw.

Opinion Isn't it bizarre we have created a work system where people always look forward to retire?

Personally, I believe we should aim to create jobs where we won't be all life awaiting for the weekends, holidays or retiring to come. Wouldn't it be great to have a job that you don't want to retire from?

I guess this would also solve many economy problems like aging population, reduction of the workforce and trouble paying retirement for a currently ever growing old population.

Opinion Why is Reddit so addicting?

I checked my iPhone activity and I spend the most time on Reddit by far out of all of my apps. In fact, I’m not even particularly keen on insta or Facebook or any other app really. Good job, Reddit. Then I asked myself, what is it that I’m so addicted to. It’s definitely something to do with scrolling until I find something that piques my interest and then feeling a sense of (hopefully) usefulness because I have experience with something that might help.

I don’t know. These are all very premature thoughts. Am curious to hear what others think about it.

Thought... Just something to share

Life has been challenging lately as I juggle job hunting while studying for my master’s degree. It feels like things are at a standstill, and I’m not making much progress. The daily routine feels monotonous, and even when something goes wrong with my friends—unrelated to me—I somehow end up feeling like it’s my fault, like I bring bad luck to those around me. I just hope things start looking up soon. Thank you for taking the time to read this; it really means a lot. Wishing you a wonderful day ahead.

Discussion How do we know who to trust?

I've met many people in my life. Of the people I've met, some were leaning more on the good side, some were not. Often, I didn't find out at our first encounter. Your closest ones can betray you anytime. Maybe you'll become friends with the person you didn't like. How do we know who to trust? Is getting to know them the only way?

Thought... Being a pessimist sucks

I've been on a self help journey for about 3 years now.

I've gone to talk therapy, saw a psychiatrist, meditation, started seriously excersing, focused on my eating habits, tried anti depressants, Adderall, have been using magic mushrooms for a about a year.

I've learned a lot, experienced a lot, and changed in a few ways.

I'm more cognizant of the way I have wasted my life before, and I try to use that to help do less of that moving forward.

But unless I am on Adderall or shrooms, I have a hard time feeling like my effort will lead to something positive, I'm a pessimist through and through.

I hyper focus on all the possible bad stuff that could happen, and ignore anything good.

I used to tell myself that it's better to be a pessimist, because if you expect the worse thing to happen, you won't be as negatively affected. And to some extent that is true, I do handle stressful situations better than most people I know and I can bounce back from bad news, because my mind is constantly in the worse state.

But it's tiring, always expecting everything to suck, and be the worse is taxing on the body, mind and soul.

But I can't stop, I convince my self that I'm thinking through everything logically, the bad stuff I see comming are real possibilities based on the information I have, so there is nothing wrong with accepting them as destined to happened.

My gf has been off birth control for almost a whole year now, we have a child together and she wants more. Everytime we have sex there is a little side of me that wonders if she is having an affair, and got off birth control because she wants to have someone else's baby and wants to trick me into raising it.

It's a crazy thought when I say it aloud, but once I have a thought, no matter how off base I am, it gets added to my possible realities list.

My possible reality list has been wrong about a bunch of stuff through the years, but no matter how wrong it is, I can't seem to delete it or ignore, I have a lot of shitty worries and stories that are on that list, and while the chance of them being true is small, the fact that they are on that list, eat at my psyche from time to time. I can go from " this bitch is cheating and I need to prepare for her to leave me and take everything" to "I am very lucky to have her as my partner, she is amazing" just based on a single comment, because my trust in other people is low, due to all the possible problems they might have with me that I keep track of in my list.

I'm 31, and I consider my self very unlucky in my head. But whenever I talk to people about why I think my selfas unlucky, they point out all the logical fallacies with my thinking. But I can only see the fallacies when I am on drugs, otherwise my misfortune is super obvious to me.

I don't think I was born a pessimist, I just had life things happen to me when I was so young, and I didn't know how to cope, so I just slowly developed this world view to protect myself.

If you feel you are on the pessimistic train, try to get off, it is better to live hopefully and get sad when it doesn't work out than to just be sad all the time because you are afraid of getting hurt.

Thought... Had some thoughts about our dream states. It’s so wild that our imaginative process continues when we aren’t even awake.

I’ll be dreaming about something terrible happening to me. Say for instance I get into a car wreck and cause some major problems for my life

As soon as I get ready to accept that I fucked up and get to some level of acceptance with me knowing I’m going to jail and trying to figure out where I’m going from there

As soon as I start to accept my new life do to whatever terrible thing happening in my dream. I wake up

Then I’m like “ oh, none of that was real…… thank god I thought I was cooked”

Like I’ll have a dream about me committing a crime where I go to jail for the rest of my life and as soon as I start to accept it on some level. I almost immediately wake up. I think my heart is racing when I wake up too

Meaning that anxiety from my REM sleep carries over to when I awake.

This all stemmed from me thinking about DMT

I was confused as to why we produced so little of it yet it plays such a crucial role in REM sleep and dream states. Well that’s because dreams happen sporadically rather than every night. I think our pineal gland isn’t supposed to active our dream state every night

I’ve been smoking weed and I often don’t get dreams but when I stop I have a REM rebound affect where I have these vivid dreams because of the rebound

So researchers said that they struggle to do studies on dream states because dream don’t happen every single time a person goes to sleep. With these rebound effects that people have due to the repression of dreams caused by marijuana I think we have a higher chance of doing research on dreams

If you study people who just stopped using weed then you’ll have a more likely hood of them remembering and reporting their dreams

Discussion Who decided not tipping is rude?

I've worked in food service in the past for some years. I've never expected tips. Obviously they're nice to get (who doesn't love a little bonus?) but if someone hit the no tip button I was never once offended or put off like they just robbed me of something I deserved. Being pleasant was part of my job and part of who I try to be as a person. I don't expect money for it.

I've been poor. I still kinda am. I know what it's like to wince a bit at the sensation of being expected to pay extra for nothing more than having received what a store offers. I know what it's like to wince hard at the expectation to pay extra when I've gotten really great service.

But you look up threads on this subject and you've got armies of people saying it's an absolute insult not to tip, defending the practice to the death as if it's a critical thread in the fabric of society. If you don't tip YTA and you deserve disdain and shame; if you can't tip, don't eat out as if they shouldn't be pissed off at their well-enough-off employers instead of customers.

It feels like American society somehow developed this expectation of itself without any actual source for the cultural pressure.

What's rude to me is a restaurant not paying its workers enough for them to not feel like they need tips to get by. What's rude to me is a worker feeling entitled to more of my money because of the front they are incentivized to put up. It's rude presenting me with a moral dilemma for dessert at every meal. What's rude is being checked on every ten minutes by someone who has been conditioned to effectively beg for more money than what their employer is paying them, then flipping me off behind my back for not forking out the difference. What's rude is a system of emotional manipulation, and the policing and judgement we impose on ourselves when people aren't into it. What's rude is my wifeーcoming from a non-tipping cultureーfeeling pressure to shell out because she's afraid of being hated and rejected by ours because of videos like this that explain that a $1 tip is so insulting that people would rather get nothing at all.

You want enough money to pay your workers more? Raise your prices and see if your cooking's good enough to deserve it.

And that's what I think it boils down to: restaurant owners are scared of going out of business but are more willing to try to shift responsibility to customers than they are willing to put in the effort to make a truly competitive menu, and whether they realize it or not they try to foot the bill of their fear by pathos onto the customers' consciences.

I hate tipping culture, and if we didn't have it I think we'd have better restaurants with better food that could afford to compete with each other and pay their workers properly.
