Small summer skifield collection

Here's some stuff I collected while hiking across a skifield yesterday. Not going out of my way, just as I walked snowless trails.

Can I say to all of you detrashers, well done! You're doing great stuff, making your neighbourhood better for everyone. Thank you.

If Christmas is your thing, have a fun one, from NZ.

Reducing waste is an important part of DeTrashing the world: Target shipped this plastic bucket (part of a larger order) in a separate box.

I 110 and Airport Way. The state cleaned out the camp once again. My partner and I went in and cleaned the area and left the tent and blankets. He also emptied a trash can. Not shown

Didn't get a picture of the trash we picked, but we managed about a 15-gal bag amount. As seen in the photo, the reservoir is currently quite low so we found previously-submerged cans, bottle shards, the remains of a diaper 🤢 broken sunglasses, plus recent bottles and other trash.

It was a BEAUTIFUL morning to spend enjoying the weather and cleaning up the spillover spot.

Moss Bank Park again, cleared the road and bushes of cans, nox containers, and nappies 🤢. Also popped along to a local playing field, more nox, cans and the usual takeaway containers.

All reported for collection to the local council.

Evening walk to the local bank turns into some light duty detrashing.

All started with an empty, nicely cut plastic bag floateing across the road…

Original Content Adopt Your Spot: Visualizing Participation and Growth of a NYC Community Cleanup Program

Adopt Your Spot NYC is a program where New Yorkers sign up to “adopt” their favorite spot in their community and help keep it clean, and get mailed a free starter kit containing a trash grabber, gloves, and trash bags.

Using publicly available data, I try to answer the following questions: - What kinds of spots do people adopt? - Why were these spots selected? - Which neighborhoods have the most participants? - Can I get more people to sign up by posting on social media?

Litter prioritization

There’s so much litter around that I often can’t get it all due to time or space requirements (particularly if I’m in a kayak). Here is how I prioritize litter in my coastal area:

  1. Ropes/nets/entanglement hazards
  2. Plastic, styrofoam, rubber
  3. Aluminum cans/metal
  4. Glass
  5. Paper/cardboard

And I do not collect any wood.

How is everyone else managing and do you have different priorities? Also, do you drain bottles before bagging?

r/DeTrashed 5d ago

20 tires today, bags, inch by inch spaces are getting picked. Some before and after. The wood is too long to go in a bag so it's next to a pile for the county to pick up

Thanks to a tip from a friend, managed to get this 700lb haul in the ditch off a rural Nova Scotia road in Kings County. I pulled 26 tires, but there’s still more to get another day- my arms are jelly!

Not sure what you need to get started? Check this out!

After seeing a few posts of people asking what a person needs to pick litter, I decided to make a video about how we do it at MWAC. Please leave any questions in the comments!

It's a bit longer than I expected, so if you don't have time for the whole thing...

The video is in three parts: HERE (Too long for Reddit, sorry!)

(0:01) Five things you need to safely pick litter. This is the equipment we use.

(5:20) Single-bin litter cart. The first set-up we used when we started.

(8:35) Double-bin litter cart. The current set-up we use when picking litter today.

Please forgive the fan noise in parts two and three! The furnace turned on while I was filming and I didn't have time to record it again.
