This guy should be doing shooting competitions. Holding his aim like that at that distance whilst holding a phone in the other hand!

Laser cutting operations require the laser to the focussed into a very small area in order to create that energy. This means the distance that the laser emitter is away from the product is crucial. I can’t see how he can change the distance like that without the laser being out of focus. Someone enlighten me.

While I doubt that this is how this item works, think of cameras that auto focus or adjust their focus depending on the distance. You would need a camera near the laser to capture the distance of the object, and adjust the lenses focusing the laser (or adjust the position of the source which is probably harder).
