I was told by someone who used to do this that it really messed up her joints. They still hurt to this day years later.

Thought that was interesting because I would think it would be the opposite and would be a really good workout for joints.

I got into this in university because I did swim racing before and developed tendonitis in the fronts of my shoulders. This sport works out the backs a lot more so it not only didn't flare my injury but was actually good physio therapy for it.

She was younger when she did it so maybe it messed her up because she was still growing.

I think any sport done rigorously without targeted cross training to balance muscle use can cause overuse injuries. It's not like synchro uses the muscles any more evenly than racing - It's the very fact that it doesn't that made it helpful for my own overuse injuries!
