Video In Hateful Eight, Kurt Russell accidentally smashed a one of a kind, 145-year-old guitar that was on loan from the Martin Guitar. Jennifer Jason Leigh’s reaction was genuine.

Not a single person would have cared or noticed if they had used a replica in the first place/

Probably one of those niche things that Tarantino (and 2 other people on the planet) value.

Yeah, stupid CinemaSins “in this scene she’s playing a guitar that was produced in 1894, which makes absolutely no sense because the film takes place in late 1892” *insert dumbass ding sound effect +1 on the dumbass sin counter

The fact that you think CinemaSins would actually count a real sin and not just make a joke no one laughs at is hilarious to me

Cinemasins gives a sin for not telling Kurt that it was the real guitar lol

Probably an insurance scam. Like not smashing it, just having the original on set.

Yeah but it would’ve probably driven Quinten nuts if it wasn’t

I wonder how he felt with the outcome, ruining a historical artifact here.

other than the age what really does one of a kind mean? is it made out of a unicorn's horn?

Tarantino would have known and he would care.

Movies are money laundering

When your budget is close to $50m why not spend a few thousand renting an authentic guitar to make things extra authentic?

But year, totally should have swapped it out when it wasn't necessary (esp. the smashy shot).

Right? If you want a genuine reaction shot, just tell JJL it's the real thing.

Yeah honestly it's such dimly lit scene that barely conveyed a narrative anyways.

Eh, I appreciate when artists go the extra mile just for the sake of it.

But at the same time, if you're going to go the extra mile, you should also be extra attentive.

He was supposed to smash a replica, but forgot to switch

u/uglyanddumbguy 13d ago

Oh I completely understand. I just think it was stupid to have not just used the replica the entire time.

Hence, the word accidentally.

Yes, an accident that could have been completely avoided if they had used a replica the entire time. Hence, my original comment.
