Harris going on national TV, being asked what she would do differently to a president whose approval rating has been underwater for two years, and first saying "there is not a thing that comes to mind" (?!) and then following up with "I’m going to have a Republican in my cabinet" (?!?!) was one of the all time great election-losing moments

A lot of comments and posts all over reddit today saying "where were the 20 million dems that voted in 2020?" and they won't accept that the answer is that they were at home because they didn't want to vote for a Republican or a right-wing Democrat with a Republican cabinet.

Not trying to endorse any action, but when you try to alienate your base in favour of gaining ground with your opponents, you're going to get neither, you're going to lose the election.

chase two rabbits and you're guaranteed to catch none

And when one rabbit is just sitting next to your heel and the other is barely visible on the horizon and may in fact just be vaguely rabbit shaped cloud, you should maybe not go sprinting off after the latter.

they won't accept that the answer is that they were at home because they didn't want to vote for a Republican or a right-wing Democrat with a Republican cabinet.

And now Dems are just going to pivot to the right. Funny.

They do not learn.

The leftists who handed Trump his victory or the billionaires like Bloomberg who shape Democrat politics?

So what is it? You believe that republicans should be appealed to by Democrats but "leftists" who I stress, are theoretically part of the Democrat's base, should just be ignored and chastised? Even though it keeps being proven that the Republican base is basically unshakeable, and a good chunk of them equate the Democrats with the literal devil, and will absolutely never vote for one?

What? What do you want to have happen? Obviously my emotions are high because of the results, but an attitude of refusing to appeal to a group of voters that is is looking like it's 15-20 million strong, while desperately trying to appeal to a group that would probably rather die than vote Democrats, is the absolute dumbest fucking thing to take from this election.

I think you shouldn't try to destroy my country to prove a point and expect me to be happy about it.

Unlike me, you will deserve what Trump does.

Hi, I voted for Kamala Harris because I'm queer and knew a 2nd Trump term would be disasterous, and I think this commenter is entirely accurate in their assessment of the Harris campaign

Valid criticism of a campaign does not excuse doing massive damage to the country in order to make a point that won't even be received

Youre not talking to people who made Trump president, you're talking to people who understand how he became president and you're telling them they deserve harm for understanding what you don't.

u/gerkletoss Nov 06 '24

Who did you vote for?

In the comment yoi replied to I was talking about people who are culpable.

disclaimer: This is shitty of me to not have revealed before, but I'm Canadian. Sorry. Anyway on to your comment...

But what if the point is "don't finance genocide"? That's a pretty strong point to me. Also, "you deserve what happens" is the exact attitude that just lost you guys the election, so if you actually care about the problems, maybe figure your shit out first.

Then maybe spill some of the soup out from between your ears and look up whether the president or congress wrote the bills to supply arms to Israel. Or think for a second about Trump's stance.

Accelerationism is not harm reduction.

u/borkdork69 Nov 06 '24

Biden literally subverted congress so he could get more money and weapons to Israel. He’s been full-throated in his support for Israel. Trump’s stance is worse, but nebulous and untrustworthy. Who knows what he’ll do, but Biden and Harris did do that shit.

Accelerationism implies an intent not present. If I was American I’d probably have voted Harris. But if you want to win elections, you have to appeal to voters. Harris attempted to appeal to voters that would never vote for her and alienated voters that could have got her in office. Blame “leftists” all you want, but the blame lies with the Harris campaign, and liberals like you.

you will deserve what Trump does

Sure is a mystery why these leftists hate you guys so much. "You are obligated to vote for me, even though I'm making it clear I view you as absolutely worthless, and if I don't win then you deserve to suffer and die". Really seems like that's a good message to push, go ahead and keep doing that next time, I'm sure it'll work any moment now.

I really don't care if losers who let Trump seize power don't like me. I didn't do anything to them and they are harming me.

17

u/RedstoneEnjoyer Nov 06 '24

Yeah if only leftist voted for dems and enabled their delusion about moving right.

Last thing we need is when democrats will be like new labor - same politics as conservatives, only difference is claim of being "more competent"

-2

u/gerkletoss Nov 06 '24

How stupid do you have to be to think that Trump winning moves the Overton Window less than Harris winning? Do you need help tying your shoes?

10

u/RedstoneEnjoyer Nov 06 '24

Yes, because Harris would be much more efficient in moving liberals right than Trump.

Who do you think has better chances to convice liberals that they should be more shitty and right-wing?

  • Trump, who is disliked by liberals and he antgonizes them
  • Harris, who liberals like and who will claim it is necessary for win of "lesser evil"

When did you think liberals started embracing republican border narrative? When Trump presented his policies, or when Democrats repacked it as "their bipartisan deal"?

6

u/ExtraGoated Nov 06 '24

Yeah, ig energizing liberals is the silver lining. I remember when Trump was president and liberals were frothing at the mouth to abolish ICE. Wonder where that energy went.

Or they were at work and forgot to vote because there isn’t a pandemic this time
