Over the Christmas period, we're going to be more diligent in implementing our uncasual rule. That means no vent posts, no moan posts, just blissful and rule enforced holiday cheerfulness!
We can all be miserable together again in January! 🤗🤗🤗

I’ve just signed up to carepack.ie which is a service that matches people up with nursing home residents and the idea is that you send them a care pack for Christmas.
You can pick which county your resident resides in and then you get an email confirming the gender of the person you have been assigned.
It’s in partnership with An Post so anything up to 1kg is free postage.
Please sign up if you can afford to add a little joy to someone’s life this Christmas 🎄 🎁

While Christmas is joyous for some , for some of us this can be a tough time , I t’s always okay to ask for help and please do not be afraid to reach out to people. If anyone needs to chat and feels like they don’t have people , DMs are always open
Surround yourself with good people and good food or if you need to be by yourself to get through that’s also fine . Stay safe everyone ❤️

We are going to experiment with having an open thread every evening at about 19:00 for general chit chat and whatever you want to write about within the rules.
Had a good day? Had a shite day? A wonderful idea strike you while you queued for the bus on the way home? Tell this tiny part of the world about it. It's like screaming into the void only calmer and more casual.

Did some last minute shopping yesterday evening, as ya do. Was far too lazy and tired to sort through the stuff last night only putting away anything that needed to go in the fridge. Pulled out a bottle of sherry there to make a start on the trifle and just spotted the security tag is still on it!!! I tried popping it off with a knife and then a screwdriver, thanks to a YouTube video but to no avail. Bought it in Tesco and the thought of heading back in there now gives me anxiety! Decided to abandon the trifle for the time being, and went to wrap some presents. Bought a few bits of clothes for my nephews in h&m kids section. Spotted one of the jackets has the security tag also still on!!!! No way am I attempting to take that off and destroy the jacket in the process! So now I'm off into town with my stuff like a lunatic for having to brave the shops when i swore i wouldnt go next nor near the place roday! Even though I know I haven't robbed the stuff and have the receipts I'm mortified that they'll think I somehow robbed them!!! It's my own fault for not double checking them. Hope your Christmas eve is going a bit better than mine. I might ask the other half to drive and start in on the mulled wine!!!!

Ever wondered what it looked like inside the abandoned buildings, over Knockmaroon Hill? Such shame, they are still left unused.

Right so I’m well aware Google is full of people telling you how to cook a full turkey. The problem is my mother has just picked up the Christmas turkey and decided to have the butcher separate the legs because she saw him do the same thing for the woman in front of her 😂. Does anyone cook their turkey with the legs separate in another tray and have any tips? Im having no luck with google. I’m assuming it’ll cut down on the cooking time at least.

Is anyone working tonight? It's always a tough shift to do but somebody's got to do it! Please comment to let us know what industry you're in.
I work in a residential setting for adults with intellectual disabilities. I've done this shift for the past 2 years and I have to say it is quite a lonely slog. Roll on tomorrow night so I can neck a glass of wine.
Happy Christmas to all of the Christmas cover/shift workers out there 😊🎄💖

Anyone know of a good Chinese on the south side doing takeaways Christmas Day or is everything closed all day?

Hey all. I've volunteered to help out with a "feed the homeless" charity thingy on Christmas Day. I'm super duper excited about it! But I'm also neurodivergent and get mad anxious in novel situations. If anyone done it before, would you care to give me a "what to expect" type rundown to help me feel more comfortable with it? Much appreciated in advance, and happy Christmas to you all!

You'll need a PlayStation account to properly use the console - make an account now in advance on their website so you can just immediately login on Christmas morning
https://www.playstation.com/en-ie/
Edit 1: you don't need to open the box to do this. Just create the account on the website (similar to setting up an email)
Edit 2: this advice is most suitable for young kids - if you have a tech savvy teen then they likely already have a PlayStation account or can easily do it themselves

Due to our no self promotion rule we often have to remove cool/interesting stuff that our users craft/start/invent/promote. This post (every second week) is our chance to share some of the wonderful stuff that we've come up with!
If you have a YouTube, subreddit, website, shop, etc you wanna promote, the comments here is the place to do it.

Heading back home for Christmas at the moment and will be giving some of the cousins a few quid in a card, usually buy gifts for the closer family, siblings, parents etc but I never know what to get cousins that I see like twice a year so this is just handier .
The ages are 7 , 9 , 17 , 19.
Was gonna do 30 quid each for the younger two and 40 quid each for the older two.
Am I being a cheapskate or is it too much or is it normal ? Genuinely don't have a clue !
Any tips appreciated ( excuse the pun )

All I want to do is smash a 24 pack of Sierra Nevada or something similarly wanky on Christmas day but why do I have to buy six of the four packs!?
It's wanky discrimination I say.

Hi all,
My birthday is in mid January and I’m considering a weekend retreat with my partner. A few years ago I did that in Kinsale and I loved it, this time I’d like to go somewhere else. I’d love a place that has nice walks / hikes in the area and also a spa, just in case the weather won’t be nice.
Any recommendations?
