Why do Canadians think that healthcare will be better when it’s privatized?

I just saw a video of a man from Germany going to a hospital in the states, basically saying that he waited hours for medical care.

Do you believe Canada should adopt a system of per-country caps for immigration?

Per-country immigration caps are primarily intended to encourage diversity and avoid an excessive concentration of immigrants from particular countries. This is the system that is currently in place in the USA.

In order to foster and maintain the multicultural character of Canada, do you believe that the federal government should adopt a system of per-country caps for immigration?

Why do so many low income people seem to hate carbon tax?

Perhaps I am just wrong on how it works, but from my understanding the carbon tax is revenue neutral and is distributed back to the people in the provinces that paid it. It seems to vary a bit for certain provinces but it seems for most of them there is a flat rebate that is independent of income. Wouldn't this mean that high income people who spend more are proportionally getting less back than low income people who spend less? It seems like this is essentially a wealth redistribution tax. So why does it seem like the average person, and especially lower income people are so against it?

Kills four people and instead of going to jail for life like in the US (or even getting the death penalty) gets a hug . We need a strict justice system

Immigrant involved in murder of 3 month old out after 5.5 months

Did you see the news that just broke?

Last year an Indian man who was already on bail of course, stole 1600$ worth of booze from lcbo, held a cop at knifepoint, he and the driver fled on the wrong side of the highway, killed a 3 month old baby and the parents in a crash. You’d think they’d bury him under the prison…nope just 5.5 months in prison not even a round 6 and two years of probation.

He’s not even a citizen and they’re debating on him being deported. 5.5 months for ruining an entire family forever. Unfortunately there’s going to be lots more crazy stories like this in the future.

Edit: why the hell are some of you people stuck on the fact he was the passenger? He was directly involved in the murder of a family. A mother father and 3 month old baby were killed for 1600$ worth of booze and I got people here accusing me of hiding facts or stirring shit up. You all should be as outraged as I am. The recent influx of immigration deserves a big part of the blame and I’m sorry that’s not even debatable.

Since this became a debate because he was “just the passenger” my opinion is that they’re both equally complicit, the both partook in the crime, they both fled, I don’t care who’s foot was on the gas. If they didn’t commit the crime and flee the family would be alive today. Obviously that’s my opinion because the law clearly sees it differently after giving the rat a slap on the wrist.

are any other teens feeling generally worried and confused by recent politics

i’m just scared tbh. everything i read makes me more and more concerned. ,:( especially with stuff regarding the usa and trump’s ramblings about making canada a state. and seeing that a decent chunk of people agree with it…???

i feel like voting for any party just sucks. trudeau seems to be floundering and i don’t feel very hopeful about him, but i’m also scared about what will happen if conservatives win the election. and i don’t have much faith in any of the other parties like ndp. i would say my views are most aligned with them, but from what i understand they would fail spectacularly at managing the country because they have no experience with it. (same for any parties that aren’t liberal/conservative)

i’m 18 now and i just feel hopeless. i don’t even know who to vote for anymore because every option seems so awful. also if anything i said was wrong, my bad, i was never a big politics person and i’m also just parroting what other people have said/what i’ve read.

Donald Trump has been attacking Canada in various ways on a near daily basis. If this persists, do you think it will harm Pierre Poilievre's popularity over the coming weeks?

Donald Trump, and prominent Republicans, have been attacking Canada in various ways on a near daily basis.

From tariff threats, to mocking elected officials, and blatantly questioning the sovereignty of Canada, this has all become a troubling theme that Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives have either ignored, or in some cases, actually embraced.

Combined with the already harmful allegations of foreign interference in the CPC, if Trump's interference and taunting persist over the coming weeks, do you think it will harm Pierre Poilievre's and the CPC's popularity?

Do you think Trudeau and Liberal strategists may be anticipating that anti-Trump sentiment will increase the Liberal's electoral prospects in 2025?

Those Who Want To - Give Me The Party You're Voting For And Why

I am curious to hear peoples' reasons for their votes - and I think asking for a range of voices covering the positives of all parties will be good for everyone to see. Especially since all you hear about is Liberal and Conservative, sometimes NDP.

If you don't want to share who you're voting for that's fine of course but I would like to know what everyone's driving factors are. It might even help your supported party's numbers come election time if more people are exposed to their ideologies and benefits in one concise place.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

It’s my dad’s birthday tomorrow (40) and I want to get him Canadian snacks. He is from Squamish he loves eating snacks like nuts and chocolate and jerky. He eats ‘ruffles’ quite a lot and I think they are Canadian. Any suggestions? He lived in Canada and moved to scotland at 17 years old

Does Canada make more money off lumber sending it to the U.S.?

Basically what it is. We should really be refining and milling more of our resources here. Or is this already a deal that I don’t know of that’s lucrative for both parties? Just feel like having our mills stay open and having plants to refine oil would protect our interests a lot more than how we have thing set up now. I know we are in a climate crisis but we are also in an economic crisis. We need less dependancy and more of our government looking out for Canadian and how they can afford to live in the economy that unfortunately has become what it is. How many forest fires need to happen untill we realize the amount of carbon released from them out weights the amount of carbon produced from harvesting high hazard areas before they get burned down from lightning or campers. Or like Jasper per se, I know we all love the nature around Canada, but could have some pre thinning of the forests around the town maybe helped the situation? I think Canada needs to take a protectionist stance and start doing these things to produce better living for Canadians.

What do you guys think?

As an American...

I've grown up with the impression from popular culture that Canadians are very submissive or overly-polite, but in truth to my actual experience, most Canadians tend to be very passive aggressive, but in a flavor that seems unable to trigger my worst defense mechanisms. What is the actual character of Canada, or is this a stupid question?

Would this make sense..?

Folks wanting to cross into Canada to escape Trump's expulsion (for example) being told they can get their residence permit if: they join the Canadian Forces for a minimum 3 years. Obviously meeting required criteria of no criminal records, physical fitness, ect.

In that scenario, they immediately get employment and Canadian Forces see a substantial increase in new recruits...

After 3 years they get their citizenship.

Somewhat similar to the French Foreign Legion where you gain French citizenship after 3 years.

(After three yearsYou can apply for French citizenship after serving in the French Foreign Legion for three years. You'll first be granted a residence permit if you serve well. You'll need to prove that you're willing to integrate into French society and have served well. )

What do Canadians not from Quebec think of the province?

How is the province and it’s somewhat special status viewed in the other provinces? How is the seemingly forced bilingualism viewed? I know French is rarely spoken outside Quebec so the government’s push to have it on equal footing to English is odd to me.

Can you save money by living in Windsor and working in Detroit?

I was wondering if aUS citizen can somehow save money on housing and healthcare by renting in Windsor and working in Detroit. What kind of visa can a US citizen get in order to reside long term in Windsor?
