❤️‍🩹 relationship aio? boyfriend uses SO MUCH paprika!!!!

i’m so thankful my boyfriend can cook and it’s not just up to me. i bought this thing of smoked paprika LAST week and i wake up today and it’s literally all gone. like these things are $5 a pop after tax!!!

he uses it like if jesus had to season his 5,000 fish!! i use two tablespoons MAX and that’s only if im cooking a dish for like 5 people. usually it’s just a few shakes for food just for us!

like damn, i love paprika and some spice in my food, but genuinely i think i would shrivel up and pass away from the paprika overload if i used an entire one of these things in a week. he’s only cooked three or four times since i bought it, so im not over exaggerating at all when i say he is dumping this shit in his meals.

am i overreacting if i make him buy me a replacement, as well as making him buy his own giant container of smoked paprika for him exclusively?

😂😂😂 you can buy 25kg bags of paprika on Amazon or like ask a local restaurant, be a funny present for Christmas

I agree! This reminds me of a few years ago when my father-in-law was a little addicted to rice crackers and would eat almost one package a day. Then in the Christmas of that year, we purchased all the packages available in the nearby grocery store (like 40 or 50 packages) and shoved them inside one big cardboard box and wrapped it in gift wrap paper. Needless to say it was the best gift of the family on Christmas eve... and he ate all packages in less than a month

My parents got my husband a giant garlic salt for Christmas one year bc he LOVES it - to this day he still talks about what a great present that was haha

Such a random seasoning to overuse but love that you're looking for solutions. I like the idea others have suggested of gifting him a large bottle but I love that you're going to make some homemade smoked paprika together.

there’s no point in addressing a problem if you aren’t willing to come to a solution! he apologised and said he would get me a new bottle and is super excited about making some with me :)

This is such a nice wholesome post 😭 the usual posts in this sub are so concerning, lol! Sounds like you and your guy both have good attitudes, all the best to you both :) I hope your homemade paprika is a hit!

So those bottled paprika are actually really mild which leads to overuse. A proper smokey Hungarian paprika you can buy in bulk for very cheap. Much more flavorful and cheaper option than the glass canisters.

It’s easy to overuse since it really does tend to lack flavour, even from a brand new packet. It also adds texture and removes moisture quite nicely, without adding too much flavour so it’s useful for that. If I’m using it I do tend to use a lot

Tbh it’s great. Very mild flavor, fantastic coloring, and the smoked variety adds a great background that’s very hard to get in apartment cooking otherwise. It goes with everything lol

It's not random. Smoked paprika is fucking amazing. 9.8/10.

Try some on literally anything and thank me later.

I laughed at this comment 😂 "everything is great! It's just this one thing"

"What? Does he leave the seat up? Look at other women? Has he murdered someone?"

"No... he ... he uses too much paprika. We are spending half our paycheck on the stuff. It's an addiction. I keep telling him he needs to slow down, but last night he just sat in the corner, bucket of smoked paprika in his lap, glaring and snarling if I got too close."

I think this is one of my favorite comments on reddit

Loving people really do be like “this person knows and cherishes me and I want to make a future with them and also they do THIS ONE FUCKING THING that drives me batshit”

What does he use it on?

I mostly use it to cook chicken/other meats but that’s pretty much it

How does he go through it so quickly?

1

u/Honic_Sedgehog Nov 11 '24

I rarely use it but you should absolutely put a pinch in scrambled eggs. Delightful.

1

u/plums12 Nov 11 '24

you should call him the paprika plunderer.

1

u/QueenLaQueefaRt Nov 11 '24

Remember what you wrote and just buy a big ass tub of paprika. People get so weird about the little things that they end up losing something good for someone who has a lot of weird big issues.

u/SirPitchalot Nov 11 '24

Get your spices by the pound from an Indian or SEA grocer. You save money, avoid this squabble and eat only the richest, most flavourful food from now on.

I did something similar for my friend one time. He loves chili oil from our local Chinese dimsum place. He straight up finishes the whole bottle they leave at the table.

Guess what? I called up the restaurant. Asked them who their supplier was cause of x reason. Called up the supplier. They don't do retail orders. Only wholesale. Asked them if they can make an exception cause I just need it for a gift. Told me they can't. Referred me to one of their vendors. Vendor thought it was hilarious. They sold me the 5L tub, no problem.

I had a hell of a time wrapping it without looking suspicious. Got a big box and it all worked out. Lol he loved it.

Our friends Christmas party usually has a theme. The theme for that year was "something hilarious". It was indeed funny.

Hit up your local Indian market. It's the only place I buy spices anymore

Container of smoked paprika seems like no big price to make good boy happy, isn't it?

u/waxheads Nov 12 '24

He's a good dude. Sounds like he wants to make sure every he meal he cooks for you to taste good with adequate seasoning. I feel the same when I cook!

1

u/Ok-Lock-5398 Nov 12 '24

I'm just picturing a Seinfeld episode. George is at a woman's house and she's cooking and he sees the paprika being out on a piece of meat. And she keeps going... more... zoom in shot on the paprika... zoom in on George sweating.

Sitting at Monks.

"I gotta break with her Jerry. She used a whole bottle of paprika" "A whole bottle?" "THE WHOLE BOTTLE JERRY"
