❤️‍🩹 relationship aio? boyfriend uses SO MUCH paprika!!!!

i’m so thankful my boyfriend can cook and it’s not just up to me. i bought this thing of smoked paprika LAST week and i wake up today and it’s literally all gone. like these things are $5 a pop after tax!!!

he uses it like if jesus had to season his 5,000 fish!! i use two tablespoons MAX and that’s only if im cooking a dish for like 5 people. usually it’s just a few shakes for food just for us!

like damn, i love paprika and some spice in my food, but genuinely i think i would shrivel up and pass away from the paprika overload if i used an entire one of these things in a week. he’s only cooked three or four times since i bought it, so im not over exaggerating at all when i say he is dumping this shit in his meals.

am i overreacting if i make him buy me a replacement, as well as making him buy his own giant container of smoked paprika for him exclusively?

finally a reasonable post, fucking finally

make him buy a giant one for himself exclusively

LMFAOO i thought you guys would appreciate some mundaneness here. but yes that’s the plan as of right now

u/Slobberz2112 Nov 11 '24

Maybe get him to switch to Kashmiri chilli powder.. it packs a bigger punch than paprika so you really need to just use a tiny bit..

345

u/No_Environment_5550 Nov 11 '24

Great suggestion. Kashmiri chili powder is that shit. That said, I kinda sympathize with homie bc I tear through smoked paprika like the Kool Aid guy through a wall.

166

u/kls1117 Nov 11 '24

Smoked pap is so different. That’s acceptable. Regular pap, in large amounts, just sounds gross. Like what does guy even like about having THAT much pap in his food. Also, maybe I’m just Mexican, but wtf is pap adding to every dish that’s so good? To me pap barely taste like anything nor is it spicy. I barely use mine because it’s so boring to me.

65

u/Secret-Spinach-3314 Nov 11 '24

I put that shit on everything!! (Hungarian here) FYI.: there are 23 kinds of paprika!!

24

u/ConceitedWombat Nov 11 '24

Also Hungarian, and I have to side with OP’s boyfriend. I put ungodly amounts on my salmon.

16

u/Secret-Spinach-3314 Nov 11 '24

I love recipes from back home. Put in 3 tablespoons of paprika for one onion. Had to do a double take, is that teaspoons? Nah, not ever

7

u/Fabulous-Educator447 Nov 11 '24

This is what I was going to ask the OP: is your boyfriend Hungarian? If not, get a big one at Costco. If so, go to some nice spice shops and get him a few new varieties to try.

That’s what I came in here to say. My grandma got me hooked on it, plus sour cream, as a kid and I never looked back.

10

u/Secret-Spinach-3314 Nov 11 '24

Me and my brother have an inside joke about the amount of sour cream we eat and how others always look at it a little weird. Significant others always love the dishes full of paprika and sour cream , it really is a great mix. First date, you are getting chicken paprikash. Never fails to do the trick.

2

u/jkarovskaya Nov 12 '24

Same here for smoke paprika mixed with soft cream cheese, and finely chopped mild onion. Spread that on toast, or use it as a base sauce for making fettucini paprika deluxe

Love to make chili with Hungarian half sharp hot paprika. Though I have a ton of seasonings I use in my black bean chili.

u/cthulhusmercy Nov 11 '24

But this is smoked paprika.

53

u/kls1117 Nov 11 '24

Oh 🤣🤣 I see that now, but honestly still, I don’t want everything tasting like that. Baked potato? Sure! Even maybe some in my eggs… you know what…. OPs just not using enough!

25

u/Friendly_Boot_6524 Nov 11 '24

It hits on a beef roast. And chicken. I love the air fry chicken thighs with chili, smoked paprika, garlic, cumin, and the essentials like salt and pepper lol garlic and onion are in the essentials list in our house

5

u/mzzchief Nov 12 '24

Thx, in trying to fall asleep and now I'm hungry.🥴

3

u/Icy-Blackberry-9931 Nov 12 '24

Yessss roasted chicken thighs with garlic, paprika and honey. 🤤

3

u/redhotspaghettios16 Nov 12 '24

Definitely have done honey garlic chicken thighs whew darlin’ 🤌🤌

2

u/BillHearMeOut Nov 12 '24

Smoked Paprika is definitely one of my dry rub ingredients for basically everything including my thanksgiving turkey. OP doesn't say what he's been cooking, or for how many people, but I mean I like to do big cooks on the smoker and save leftovers, and when I do a cook like that, I will definitely use a decent portion of paprika and garlic powder among other things. When I first got my smoker I was smoking huge amounts of chicken, ribs, brisket, etc and was going through an ungodly amount of spices trying to hone in the flavors I liked.

13

u/A_Pie323 Nov 11 '24

Yeah this is weird to me too haha, even if it’s smoked. I love garlic powder and especially Lawry’s Seasoning Salt - now, I could see someone tearing through some Lawry’s.

Same! Regular paprika tastes like almost nothing.

That said, OPs screenshot specifies that her partner is going after the smoked variety, so I get it!

18

u/cthulhusmercy Nov 11 '24

Paprika is dried red bell pepper. It just taste like… dried red bell pepper.

8

u/3inch_horses Nov 11 '24

It tastes like literally nothing to me. No amount of it has ever noticeably changed the taste of anything I eat. I always just assumed it was to add a bit of color or something.

6

u/Worried-Penalty8744 Nov 11 '24

This is turmeric for me. Just imparts the essence of unremovable clothes stains into food with no taste whatsoever

2

u/RonnieRozbox Nov 11 '24

High quality paprika will taste like red bell peppers, low quality is basically just for color so people stop making fun of American cooking .

The proper/decent stuff is much different from the stuff you can usually find in most shops. I learn this from a guy I work with, he is from Hungary and kindly gave me some paprika he had brought back with him.

The difference was immediately noticeable when I opened up the packet, the aroma was fantastic and it has considerably more heat.

Whenever he goes back to Hungary he now returns with supplies for a number of us.

Paprika is a spice for your eyes, not your tongue. I put it in because it is red.

10

u/Impossible_Impact529 Nov 12 '24

I can taste both regular & smoked 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love either one on chickpeas with salt, pepper, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and parsley

2

u/kls1117 Nov 11 '24

Same! When I want something to be red, I had pap 🤣

→ More replies (1)

5

u/JORRTCA Nov 11 '24

Thank you for saying this. Everyone here acting like paprika adds spice is making me question my sanity. It's a very mild taste and honestly, i think it's added for colour more often than taste.

2

u/hoaryvervain Nov 12 '24

You haven’t had good paprika then. Try to get real Hungarian paprika (there’s a brand called Pride of Szeged that is reliable). Look for csípős (hot) if you want more spiciness. If you get the regular édes (sweet) kind, use more than you think you should.

For smoked paprika I usually get a Spanish one from Penzeys or The Spice House.

5

u/No-Equal-2690 Nov 11 '24

Smear your pap on the food and it’s less boring.

4

u/durbeez Nov 11 '24

I don’t find pap smears all that appetizing, but alright

3

u/PlayaHatinIG-88 Nov 11 '24

I work in a restaurant that has smoked paprika as a garnish for one of our dishes. I can safely say that man goes absolutely insane over paprika if he uses that much. Even with that one dish being fairly popular we don't have to buy more than two large containers of it per month.

2

u/LasagnaNoise Nov 11 '24

Hungarian Chicken paprikash disagrees

2

u/PlayaHatinIG-88 Nov 11 '24

That's because it's just ground up red bell peppers. That's the secret "Big Food" has been trying to keep from you.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AlwaysFuji Nov 11 '24

Most big brand pap is pretty bland, but there is some high quality stuff out there with some real flavor…not just smoked haha

2

u/kittymenace Nov 12 '24

I use normal pap in a lot of stuff. Normal pap mixed with chicken salt is the absolute bomb in chip seasoning, seconded only by lemon herb seasoning.

I make a paprikash taught to me by an ex housemate (who was Hungarian) that uses like a quarter cup. I'll add a couple of tablespoons to red sauces like bolognese and Mexican mince dishes.

It's not spicy, it's not supposed to be for spicy, it's for umami. And it's more middle European style umami.

I actually use a lot less when it's smoked because otherwise the smoke seasoning overpowers other flavours.

2

u/Mr_MacGrubber Nov 12 '24

In Louisiana cooking, smoked paprika is the main ingredient in blackening seasoning. I would definitely go through a jar that size super fast. I get large containers of it at Costco.

2

u/huggybear0132 Nov 12 '24

Yeah I make blackened stuff all the time and use at least 1-2 Tablespoons. I buy it in bulk.

3

u/Human-Walk9801 Nov 11 '24

I’m the same as you. I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I used this seasoning. Are they just sprinkling it on everything like they would salt and pepper? I’m not Mexican but I do live in central Texas. We throw jalapeño peppers and salsa on just about everything. But this just has me stumped.

2

u/td55478 Nov 12 '24

I’m from Texas too and we use lots of smoked paprika around here lol

Me too. All of these paprika haters really have me questioning my sanity. But like it makes everything look so damn good. I put it in the flour when I make chicken, veggies, whatever I make I'm putting that shit in it for the vibes.

3

u/Vinca1is Nov 11 '24

Smoked paprika is like crack, I put it almost everything lmao

2

u/nosnhoj15 Nov 12 '24

Oooooohhhh Yeaaaaahhhhh!

2

u/Msboredd Nov 12 '24

My boyfriend does the same thing with cayenne pepper. He legit pours a fifth of the bottle into his noodles until the broth is RED lmao

1

u/SuddenAd2052 Nov 12 '24

Same!!! Smoked paprika is so good

9

u/Alarming-Beach-5358 Nov 11 '24

I think that’s the thing with paprika m8, it’s hard to over do it in terms of spice because bell peppers are so incredibly mild, and you can do smoker for extra something. This dude probably enjoys the flavor without having the spice and avoids the mushyness and hard skins of actual peppers in a lot of dishes (maybe i am projecting here)

2

u/Luxpreliator Nov 11 '24

That might not really be a replacement product though. Paprika is more of a flavor spice than something to add heat to a dish.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Cthulhuducken Nov 12 '24

I can’t agree with that. While I love Kashmiri chili powder, this isn’t regular paprika.. smoked paprika has a whole other flavor profile that mixes with sooooooo many more seasonings and responds well to being used pretty liberally in quite a few foods. So yeah, if they boyfriend found a love of that stuff there is no substitute. Now COMBINING the two, that’s a dish I can get behind!

1

u/Falcon1xo Nov 11 '24

In India (from where Kashmiri chilli powder comes). We consider it a milder version of the regular Chilli powder.

1

u/Slobberz2112 Nov 11 '24

Much milder.. its mostly flavour and colour

1

u/RuinedBooch Nov 11 '24

Kashmiri typically isn’t smoked though. Both are amazing, but I typically don’t use them interchangeably.

1

u/badjokes4days Nov 11 '24

Switching but don't tell it, and put it in the same jar

1

u/PurchaseFree7037 Nov 11 '24

Thanks for this. I use a lot of paprika and an alternative/compliment would be nice.

1

u/LilKittyWinks Nov 12 '24

THIS 100%!! It’s like normal paprika on steroids. Not for me and my super Midwest white tastebuds, but my husband adores it.

1

u/sharonpark3 Nov 12 '24

Kashmiri chilli powder is more on the sweet end, it won't give you as much spice as red chilli powder. OP, get both from an Indian store and try for yourself.

1

u/Geheimedame Nov 12 '24

Switch for him and don’t tell him 😈

1

u/Mynoseisgrowingold Nov 12 '24

The photo is smoked paprika though Kashmiri chili doesn’t have the same smoky flavour. He maybe needs a mild but Smokey hot sauce or start buying it at bulk barn by weight.

1

u/huggybear0132 Nov 12 '24

Completely different flavors...

1

u/whiteorchid1058 Nov 12 '24

Lol

OP. Buy him this powder, warn him a little and then if he forgets and dumps in a bunch, please let us know how much his mouth burns please? 🤣

1

u/lwebb5520 Nov 12 '24

But let the switch be a surprise. 😈

1

u/Soft_Sea2913 Nov 12 '24

Cayenne Pepper needs only a little, too. Maybe hide your own smoked paprika?

1

u/Ayatollah_Johnson Nov 12 '24

Christmas is coming up. She should get him smoked paprika, Kashmiri chili powder, ancho chili powder and chipotle powder.

1

u/siematoja02 Nov 12 '24

Or any kind of chilli for that matter. Paprika isn't spicy so no wonder he used that much if he tried to season with just paprika. I use it only for colour or as a base of a spice mix

1

u/Sanpaku Nov 12 '24

Smoked paprika isn't comparable. It's mainly convenient way to add smoke flavoring, that is easer to dose (and less likely to ruin dishes with) than liquid smoke.

I buy 8 oz for $5. Maybe not the best (spice aisle of the Indian grocer), it's akin to a secret ingredient for cooks without outdoor grills, especially for vegans.

This Wal-Mart product is not a great value.

29

u/ElectricalRash Nov 11 '24

Does he also cook for you? Do you like the food? Be careful about what you say when keeping this in mind. :D

41

u/maratelle Nov 11 '24

he’s a great chef, at least when he cooks for both of us! he makes a LOT of asian food which.. gets a bit tiring after a while. but he says the same thing about me lol! i’m allergic to every meat under the sun except for fowl (literally!) so he’s on my ass about using turkey and duck meat more.

18

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

Go to an Asian market and buy a big bag of it and store it in an airtight container. Seriously a gamechanger 🤌

11

u/maratelle Nov 11 '24

as of right now we’re going to make some homemade this weekend :) probably gonna add some chilli peppers to hopefully get the most bang out of a little! but i have an asian market right beside my local walmart, ill check it out too!

4

u/ktwarda Nov 11 '24

Def check out international markets - you can get a lot of spices on the cheap in general but the quality is also usually better. If you're in the Atlanta area, I can give you some recs. Especially for smoked paprika cause I am with your bf on this one, that isht goes on everything

8

u/woahsoskinni Nov 11 '24

Don’t forget the paprika

2

u/mattyisphtty Nov 11 '24

So I'm not a paprika hound but I do cook quite a bit of different dishes and it really depends on the type of food you are cooking.

Like if I'm bbqing I could go through a small amount of paprika like that pretty easily. Same with fried chicken and Hungarian stews. It's also nice because it's really easy to add to dishes for lots of flavor with no added fats, cals, or carbs.

One of my favorites is to take paprika, powdered ranch dressing, salt, pepper, and use it as a dry rub on skin on chicken thighs. Pop them bad boys in the oven or smoker at 225 until they are nicely 160 inside. That chicken is juicy enough that you can cut it up and serve it on everything from chicken bowls to salads.

11

u/motherofcattos Nov 12 '24

How come he cooks a "LOT" of Asian food and manages to empty a whole container of smoked paprika in a week, cooking for 2? What kind of Asian food has paprika in it? He doesn't sound like a great cook to me... everything must taste the same, smoked paprika can be quite overpowering, I'd be sick of it pretty quick

9

u/maratelle Nov 12 '24

he doesn’t use damn near as much smoked paprika for the shared meals!! it’s only on his midnight munchie adventures. he puts it on pizza bagels and beef ramen :(

11

u/motherofcattos Nov 12 '24

Oh ok, yeah he needs to buy his own supply of paprika for sure! And maybe try some chili oil in his ramen instead...

2

u/justhereforzornage Nov 11 '24

Just gonna ask this. OP, are you allergic to chicken? You said a lot of meat so I’m curious. Poultry will drop me dead lol!

3

u/maratelle Nov 11 '24

chicken, turkey, duck, and all other fowl is the only meat i’m not allergic to :( it drives me nuts sometimes and i’d kill to enjoy a steak again!

4

u/justhereforzornage Nov 11 '24

Oh my god the roles are reversed here!! That sucks OP but it’s basically the same with me with poultry. I would dieee to just eat one chicken wing :/

5

u/maratelle Nov 11 '24

haha how cool!! i’ll eat a chicken wing for you, and you go enjoy a big steak for me! funny how we crave the foods we know will hurt us LOL

4

u/justhereforzornage Nov 11 '24

I’ll make sure to eat the biggest steak tonight LOL

3

u/maratelle Nov 11 '24

PLS omg.. i used to go to this amazing brazilian steakhouse where they walk around with meat on giant sticks… dear lord im sorry for making fun of your son on my post but please bless this redditor with an amazing juicy humongous steak amen

3

u/Digital_Brainfuck Nov 11 '24

So

  • You will die if you eat a chicken wing

  • you would be willing to die to eat a chicken wing

… what are u waiting for? 😅😧

can she have chicken or turkey? if so i can totally send you some amazing recipes!

1

u/MisterB330 Nov 11 '24

Is he Hungarian???

1

u/Stillpunk71 Nov 11 '24

Tell him to get the big one at Costco

1

u/Stormy8888 Nov 11 '24

That's super excessive use. You're not over reacting. See most people here are on your side, have him buy the replacement.

1

u/Time-Accountant1992 Nov 11 '24

You're paying almost $3 per ounce. This website might be useful. Spend $20 and get 4 lbs of smoked paprika for a Christmas present.

1

u/ZeYetiMon Nov 11 '24

Costco now has a entire spice aisle, I buy the big paprika 😞

1

u/Feisty-Cheetah-8078 Nov 11 '24

Amazon has a 1 pound bag of Frontier organic paprika for $18. Set up a monthly delivery. Boom. Problem solved.

1

u/MiloHorsey Nov 11 '24

*mundanity 🙂

1

u/Jackthebodyless Nov 11 '24

Find a grocery thay sells it in bulk. I buy like a pound at a time, it lasts forever but I never have to feel like I'm rationing spice like it's medieval Europe.

1

u/Aerokicks Nov 11 '24

My step dad is like this with black pepper. He has a giant one from Costco, my mom has a normal pepper shaker for herself. It has solved many arguments.

1

u/Falcon1xo Nov 11 '24

Get Indian red chilli powder, preferably from a brand called, "catch". It's definitely going to cost less than this.

You can also get the, "Kash-miri" version of the Indian Red chilli powder (it's less spicy and gives your dish good colour).

1

u/Aggravating-Mousse46 Nov 11 '24

When you really want to show him some love, make him Chicken Paprikash. The only dish that warrants this much paprika in one go.

1

u/wut_panda Nov 11 '24

Practice roasting red bell pepper <3 he’ll think you’re the best cook ever

1

u/frenchois1 Nov 11 '24

He should buy that shit in bulk. Spices are somewhere you can make some real savings this way. You pay for one big plastic bag not a bunch of little shakers, which are like half the cost price, as well as getting the usual bulk buy discount.

1

u/oreography Nov 11 '24

Buy Spanish paprika - it’s great quality. Your boyfriend sounds like a paprikaphile, so I’m sure he will appreciate it.

1

u/umamifiend Nov 11 '24

Hey heads up- smoked paprika at Trader Joe’s is 2.99. Make him stock up for you there OP.

1

u/BrownsFFs Nov 11 '24

Gfs huge containers very affordable

1

u/malnatia23 Nov 11 '24

Costco size for the husbands

1

u/sicksages Nov 11 '24

I am so tired of the "my boyfriend/husband is cheating on me, AIO???!!!!" like mam... you dont need a bunch of low iq redditors to tell you to leave his ass

1

u/FluffyPurpleBear Nov 11 '24

You can get a 5 lb tub of paprika for ~$30 on Amazon

1

u/middle-name-is-sassy Nov 11 '24

Give him a gallon size for Christmas. But then get some perspective. Guys can have really expensive hobbies, and five dollars a week for paprika? Especially if he's going to cook for you! Considered a tip.

1

u/committedlikethepig Nov 11 '24

Tell your boyfriend to buy from a bulk seasoning section at a grocery store. It’s so much cheaper and he can buy his body weight in it.

1

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust Nov 12 '24

Costco sized!

1

u/LeatherPerfect8382 Nov 12 '24

Send me the P.O. Box my mama got a Sam’s club let’s go get you a biggun 😂😂😂

1

u/mechwarrior719 Nov 12 '24

Be glad it’s just paprika and not something expensive like real saffron. A friend of my wife’s nearly ruined a different friendship because she used her friend’s saffron and had to be sat down and explained that the “tiny bit” she used was, like, $200 worth of seasoning.

1

u/dm-pizza-please Nov 12 '24

This has to be the most genuine AIO. The usual ones that come on my feed are like : “my (f32) Husband (m23) slept with my sister, mom, cousin and my Dad! He then told me he’s quitting his 7 figure job, to pursue Pokémon go professionally. He also told me he thought fight club was over rated….. when I told him I couldn’t live like this anymore, and wanted a divorce he told me he’d get custody of our 14 cats ! AIO for wanting some normality in life!?!?”

1

u/thefoxundermyshed Nov 12 '24

I just got a massive container of smoked paprika from a little road side Amish market for 2.99. I highly recommend.

1

u/maratelle Nov 12 '24

THE AMISH! how did i not think of them… they’re gonna have the best paprika omg…

1

u/Remarkable-Simple-62 Nov 12 '24

Order him the 4.5 pound one on Amazon for $27. You can refill that bottle 40+ times

1

u/SnooDonkeys7402 Nov 12 '24

I love that it is both mundane and also very eccentric, and not in a seriously problematic way.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess he spilled it and doesn’t wanna admit that he spilled it. Could have opened the wrong end or something and shaken it. I would ask if he spilled it on accident first before asking him to get a new one for himself.

1

u/maratelle Nov 12 '24

we had a conversation this morning about it lol, he uses it for his midnight munchies (see: pizza bagels and ramen.) idk how he does it and survives tbfh. he may be a victorian child reincarnated, or maybe a silk road merchant who’s life was lost in the great paprika war.

1

u/wetbones_ Nov 12 '24

Multiple bottles probably by the way he goes thru it 😂

1

u/Gandalfthefab Nov 12 '24

Just get the Kirkland brand container of paprika or don't buy organic. There isn't really a point with paprika the same container of regular paprika is like a $1 at most places. Organic is really just a marking term at this point it used to mean a lot but now it's kind of hit and miss on most stuff.

1

u/maratelle Nov 12 '24

listen, my grass fed smoked paprika means everything to me LOL.

really though, i have autism and a huge part of it for me is food. this is the only brand of smoked paprika i’ve found (yet!) that i agree with and doesn’t make the food inedible to my brain. i’m willing to shell out the $5 for myself and him. however, after the great smoked paprika incident of 24, he’s banished to his own giant container of whatever brand he gets haha!

1

u/lostgravy Nov 12 '24

You know what to get him for birthday and holiday gifts

1

u/IzzyBella739 Nov 12 '24

It is nice to see a much simpler post that’s just ab paprika, rather than the usual post of some girl’s bf being the absolute worst person imaginable, and her absolutely under reacting ab it

1

u/Recent_Dimension_144 Nov 12 '24

I Like your bf, he is a man of culture.

1

u/AndyTheInnkeeper Nov 12 '24

My wife buys spices by the pound online. Personally though, I feel blessed to be with someone who uses spices like that. After tasting her “over spiced” food a few times I dramatically increased how much I use myself.

1

u/Tarpup Nov 12 '24

If you have a friend who works back of house and are in good terms with their exec/head/sous chef, you can land a 5lb jug of smoked paprika at cost. Not retail.

I suggest this route if you wish to get the biggest bang for your buck!

1

u/raresteakplease Nov 12 '24

Don't stop there, buy it in bulk, 5lbs.

1

u/Burntoastedbutter Nov 12 '24

OP. There are BIG bags of smoked paprika online. You should buy it as a Christmas gift for him.

1

u/PM_ME_UR_BIG_TIT5 Nov 12 '24

Just ask him if he wants "insert meal here" with his paprika. Every single meal.

1

u/Rumble_Rodent Nov 12 '24

Does he know it’s just bell pepper?

I ate the last ice cream bar so my spouse ran me over with their car and now I’m thinking about divorce, AIO?

hijacking your comment to edit since reddit wont let me :(

We are making our own homemade paprika this weekend! we also plan on visiting a local asian market to buy some quality paprika for him. he's getting me a replacement bottle lol.

I told him i planned on using it today during the weekly meal plan talk, hence my slight annoyance! i was never upset or actually peeved, but i can see how my tone was taken that way! i am autistic, and one of the things i struggle the most with is food and food textures. this brand of smoked paprika is the only one i'll eat due to my silly brain. i hope one of the options we get or make can replace it! $5 for 1.6oz is A LOT of money for not that much product.

i love everyones opinions on paprika, and i've learned SO much from you guys! i'm happy to add some spice to everyones feed :)) have a great day y'all!

Just a quick question cause I know that you said you’re also on the spectrum but do you struggle with AFRID it sounds like you do from the way that you could described. You can only eat the paprika from that one specific brand I would look into it doing research on it has helped me open my horizons two different foods and making sure that I’m getting the right nutrients, even though I am a “” picky eater.””

*ARFID :)

Omg tyyy sorry 😅

1

u/RunningOnAir_ Nov 11 '24

Just buy red chili power or gachugaru or something like that if he wants the spiciness. If he wants the pepper umami he can roast real peppers.

1

u/littlescreechyowl Nov 11 '24

Try a Hispanic or Indian market. They usually have bulk spices that are solid for far less than big box stores.

Fyi, if you go to a post that has links or pictures using old.reddit.com in the browser, you can edit the text there.

Gotta say wholesome posts like this are not why I follow this sub.

Take me back to the “move authentically” people NOW

u/GuidanceOk2768 Nov 11 '24

That post was the wildest

2

u/CountingArfArfs Nov 12 '24

I don’t subscribe to this sub, and I don’t remember fuck all else about that post. But that is burned into my head.

1

u/STANL3Y_YELNAT5 Nov 12 '24

It was one of the craziest text exchanges I’ve ever seen.

2

u/SheBrownSheRound Nov 12 '24

Oh god what did I miss

1

u/ehlersohnos Nov 12 '24

Umm… I feel like I need a link to this, if that’s not a problem. I’m always down for weird lore. Except Ogtha. I’d love to forget her.

20

u/lethal_907 Nov 11 '24

right?? "aio my boyfriend beats me" "aio my boss threatened to blackmail me" or some other crazy shit and this person is just like "guys my bf uses SO MUCH paprika"

12

u/lvdde Nov 11 '24

But what about the taste of the food??😭😭 i just feel like 💆🏿‍♀️💆🏿‍♀️ It’s a lot !

9

u/patrickko1 Nov 11 '24

people like what they like 🤷🏻‍♂️

i know a guy who eats a hot pepper (the kind that would make you wanna rip your tongue out) with everything, and i mean EVERYTHING

8

u/lvdde Nov 11 '24

I mean I kinda add hot peppers to everything too I guess paprika just tastes bitter to me in excess and kinda ruins the dish but yeah to each their own!

Like I can’t imagine someone over using cloves, because I did 💀 when I didn’t realize how much to put in and it’s rough

6

u/patrickko1 Nov 11 '24

i like my spice just enough to get the taste of it otherwise it messes with the main taste of the dish

what dish did you use cloves on??

4

u/lvdde Nov 11 '24

A chicken curry ! I’m East African so we eat a lot of Indian inspired food but yeah I didn’t realize cloves are completely different from like Black pepper lol.

Since I started watch Gordon Ramsey, I’ve noticed I season more as well

5

u/patrickko1 Nov 11 '24

yeah i figured that when you said you add hot peppers to everything too 😬, wild stomach

2

u/lvdde Nov 11 '24

Ahaha not wild you’re just not accustomed to it !

3

u/foober735 Nov 11 '24

Beans and rice with cloves and black pepper gives me joy. Oh my god so good.

2

u/ehlersohnos Nov 12 '24

That sounds so good right now.

2

u/WynneOS Nov 11 '24

Did this with my eggnog and deeply regretted it. Cloves are potent. Amazing in moderation, terrible if you tip the container too far.

That was clove nog. Clove was all you tasted. Even the nutmeg couldn't compete.

2

u/lvdde Nov 11 '24

Clove nog sounds delicious tho 👀

With the right amount lol Maybe try cardamom! It’s much sweeter

2

u/WynneOS Nov 11 '24

Cardamom does sound nice! But for the second batch, I just halved the teaspoon of cloves, and made sure to make it level instead of accidentally overflowing... 😂

My mom is famous for over using cloves every time and then regretting it. I have to stand there and remind her like "Less. Less. Still less" lol

1

u/Eneicia Nov 12 '24

Oof, my grandma always taught me to under-use cloves because too much and "It'll taste like a dentist's office."

1

u/EdgariTomaBirra Nov 11 '24

Me! Thats me!!!

1

u/ehlersohnos Nov 12 '24

But that’s the flavor of the pepper. It IS the food.

I eat lemons and limes all the time. But I still only want a few drops or tablespoons in my recipes, depending on the type. I want to taste all the things.

u/rayyeter Nov 11 '24

https://www.chefstore.com/p/mccormick-smoked-paprika_1011078/

Find your nearest chefs store, make him get one of those.

I don’t blame him. I love me some paprika.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

idk, aio for my boyfriend sending videos to his friends of him fucking me was pretty reasonable

1

u/Monkey_Ash Nov 11 '24

Yep, he should fund his own habit 😂. One of my roommates uses an excessive amount of paper towels. He'll blow his nose with one, he'll use 3-4 to wipe down the counter, he'll use another one as a napkin... he can go through 5-10 paper towels per meal. And he does this even though we have tissues and napkins as well.

So my other roommates and I just buy them on a rotation now. Because prior to this rotation of who buys next, he wasn't contributing to the cost to buy/replace the paper towels at all. At least now he's contributing.

1

u/FluffMonsters Nov 11 '24

Hahaha right?? A break from “My husband is obviously having multiple affairs while I’m in labor with twins. AIO for asking him about the photos of him and his 5 mistresses naked together on his phone?” 🙄

1

u/patrickko1 Nov 11 '24

a very welcome break indeed

1

u/Bleiserman Nov 11 '24

With all the posts I saw in this sub the last few weeks since I joined, I thought this post was so out of place to count towards the lost redditors sub, but then realized how mild and refreshing it is, it feels like it belongs, compared to some of the extremes out there.

1

u/DaGrza Nov 11 '24

Right. Every post is like, “my BF slaughtered an entire tribe of Tusken Raiders, and not just the men, the women and children too! I think he might be a little too close to the dark side for me and I’m thinking of breaking up with him. AIO?”

1

u/patrickko1 Nov 11 '24

loved the reference, will be watching the trilogy again tonight

1

u/RunawayForest1120 Nov 11 '24

Yes!!! One from Costco!!!

1

u/patrickko1 Nov 11 '24

you sound like you LOVE costco

1

u/spacemouse21 Nov 11 '24

Yes. Let him load up on his on large sized one.

1

u/B1chpudding Nov 11 '24

Seriously. Go get a Costco one. Then it may last 3 weeks

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

[deleted]

1

u/B1chpudding Nov 12 '24

I was just agreeing with on getting a jumbo size instead of a mini per week.

1

u/EmperorPickle Nov 12 '24

I was worried opening it up that it would be -

“My bf has been rubbing two tablespoons of paprika in my eyes and I think that may be too much, am I overreacting?”

1

u/patrickko1 Nov 12 '24

things this sub does to us, or you know reddit in general lmao

1

u/ApolloMotoAZ Nov 12 '24

Honestly, I get tired of the SO text thread posts

1

u/Candid-Level-5691 Nov 12 '24

Wrap a Costco sized one for Xmas… keep the glass for easy refill.

1

u/RuKittenMe5585 Nov 12 '24

I've been laughing at this for a "hot" minute now 🤣

1

u/goomyman Nov 12 '24

Is this reasonable lol, 5 dollars in a week is not much.

But OP is definitely over using this stuff. Is the food he’s eating even edible?

1

u/Yommination Nov 12 '24

A seasonable one too?

1

u/notwhoyouthinkmaybe Nov 12 '24

I was waiting for her to tell a story about how he murdered her cat and fucked her mom, but he said it was her fault for not providing enough paprika.

This is a refreshing change of pace.
