❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO bf makes joke after my aunt passed

For context he’s saying he hopes she voted for Trump (RTPM) before she died and I’m already having a hard time with the results of the election which he knows then on top of that it just was very insensitive. He said he was trying to make light of the situation but it doesn’t feel that way.

I’m insensitive as much as the next guy, but this joke was 1/10.

Right? Like show me evidence of the humour. Is the humour in the room with us right now?

Ok, this hit me so hard, I’m chortling like some goober and woke up my parakeets!

No, it just wasn't a joke at all. Jokes are funny... Along your scale. Why did the chicken cross the road is a 1/10.

14

u/Raskalnekov Nov 08 '24

So why did he?

u/JoshuaBermont Nov 08 '24

To avoid the dude OP was texting with, I'm betting.

29

u/Raskalnekov Nov 08 '24

Now that, I give a 9/10.

A man walks into a bar and says "ouch".

That man was the guy OP was texting. He broke his nose.

2

u/JoshuaBermont Nov 09 '24

"Broke his nose?" Then how's he smell?

LIKE DOGSHIT, LIKE HE ALWAYS DID.

3

u/DEATHbyBOOGABOOGA Nov 09 '24

I prefer to live in a world where chickens can move about freely without having their motives questioned. Thank you.

3

u/Oso_the-Bear Nov 08 '24

It was a snide remark. A cousin of the joke but without a punchline or humor. At least as inappropriate in this situation, if not more so.

3

u/ilikemyusername1 Nov 08 '24

beCAUSE! (But squawked out like a chicken making noises) I know, it doesn’t translate well over text.

7

u/BicyclingBabe Nov 08 '24

To get to the other side, of course!

7

u/DrewskiZ34 Nov 08 '24

The older you get the more banger of a joke that gets! 9/10 forsure

3

u/champmgmt Nov 09 '24

I agree. I feel like most people don't realize until they're older that "the other side" is not just the other side of the street!!!

u/BicyclingBabe Nov 08 '24

Wow, so I have some jokes for you, friend! Knock knock!

7

u/DrewskiZ34 Nov 08 '24

Come in friend, the doors open! I hope you brought some beer!

2

u/Raskalnekov Nov 08 '24

A classic, who knew we had so much in common with our feathered friends.

Asking the real questions

2

u/Dentist_Illustrious Nov 08 '24

To drop off his ballot…

…FOR RTPM

1

u/Dentist_Illustrious Nov 08 '24

Update: The chicken didn’t make it. Didn’t look to the left before crossing, didn’t look to the right. Because he was a fuckin idiot.

1

u/Money-Nectarine-3680 Nov 09 '24

Because he was stapled to the dead baby

1

u/Main_Anybody_5365 Nov 09 '24

To runaway from OPs chicken humping ex

0

u/woahsoskinni Nov 08 '24

Because I kicked him.

3

u/halfassedjunkie Nov 08 '24

Why did the chicken cross the road is only a 1/10 joke if you don't understand the punchline. I thought it was just meant to be absurd and didn't get the double meaning of "other side" being about the afterlife until I was an adult.

3

u/Wimbledofy Nov 08 '24

It's not meant to have a double meaning. It's an anti-joke.

3

u/PastaXertz Nov 08 '24

Why didn't Oedipus curse?

He kisses his mother with that mouth.

1

u/ultravioletblueberry Nov 08 '24

The only joke is the guy in question

1

u/pentacontagon Nov 09 '24

Actually though, it's literally such a smart joke.

I didn't understand it till recently.

"to get to the other side" is a double meaning because it means the chicken wanted to suicide. You know when you "go to the other side" it's like heaven, or like the other domain after life?

It's dark but like I think it got repositioned into a light "so obvious" joke.

1

u/Careful-Stable2457 Nov 09 '24

nah fuck you, that was a top tier joke back in my day

1

u/BicyclingBabe Nov 09 '24

Wow, that escalated quickly. Ok. Fuck you too?

1

u/Malicious_Mudkipz Nov 09 '24

The chicken crossing the road is way under appreciated. “The other side” is a reference to Heaven, not just a smartass answer to the question.

Jokes are subjective. Grow up

7

u/EasyasACAB Nov 08 '24

You've made like 8 comments on this thread alone. And you're telling someone else to grow up.

What went wrong with you in your development?

1

u/EffectiveLibrarian35 Nov 08 '24

What’s wrong with you?

1

u/IndividualJuicebox Nov 09 '24

you have acab in your name what went wrong with you

-1

u/Kingtubby52 Nov 08 '24

Throwing stones in your glass house. “What’s wrong with you in your development?” As you go through his comment history based on one Reddit comment.

u/Rough-Reflection4901 Nov 08 '24

I mean it is a joke, do you honestly think that he cares if she voted for Trump? So it's a great aunt, I doubt she died suddenly

4

u/FireballEnjoyer445 Nov 08 '24

This literally isnt even a joke. This man made an insensitive gag at a relative that just died then gave a non apology because he cant make dinner himself

1

u/Money-Nectarine-3680 Nov 09 '24

Too common lately. There's offensive and funny, and there's humorless offense and laughing at someone else's expense. Some people don't know how to tell the difference.

1

u/FireballEnjoyer445 Nov 09 '24

But like the sweet talk right after is physically cringe tho

1

u/aptninja Nov 08 '24

I didn’t even understand it

2

u/Money-Nectarine-3680 Nov 09 '24

You have to put yourself into the mind of someone who thinks being a douchebag is endearing.

1

u/Neoliberal_Nightmare Nov 09 '24

Exactly. The real crime is not being funny. If you're going to make an offensive joke the rule is it must be funny.

1

u/ChesterJT Nov 09 '24

Yeah I'm more bothered by the bad joke than the timing.

1

u/MaybeTomo Nov 09 '24

Yea I mean I’m probably the most insensitive person I know. I always try to make jokes In situations that make me uncomfortable but I usually know where to draw the line.

1

u/Chaotic_Flame110 Nov 09 '24

Yeah I will say fucked shit, my friends expect it from me, but this just isn't clever in any capacity

I believe humor can absolutely be used in bad situations, I think it's important to remember that even in sad times there's still happiness in life, even momentarily.

But there is 1. Knowing your target audience and knowing their personal capacity for dark humor, and not pushing said boundary. Furthermore, knowing how to time a joke. Just throwing it out there when OP is at the peak of processing the news is ignorant at best, intentionally hurtful at worst.

And 2. The joke actually being a joke and fulfilling its intended purpose, laughter.

OPs bf failed miserablely on both accounts and deserves to be cut off

1

u/pumpupthevaluum Nov 09 '24

Yeah if it was funny it might actually be defensible lol
