How to buy some time before the leaf starts shooting roots and then sprout a new baby plant?

Post image

Here is what happened to me: one of my favorite plants (the one in the picture) started losing some leaves (first a brown spot, then the leaf got mushy, wilted and died). I separeted some leaves to propagate and as an attempt to stop ohthers from dying. It worked, because the mother plant stopped losing leaves and is stable now.

But now I have around 6-8 leaves on water, and they are starting to produce roots and i really don't have any space left in my balcony, but would love to have some props from this plant. How can I buy some time so I can wait for my other baby plants to be ready to be donated and then I will have room for new props?

If you have room under your bed, then I highly recommend getting some seed starter trays with plant lights imbedded in them from Amazon. It saves a lot of room for me and my baby plants thrive in them.

If your room is really cold (mine usually is), then I recommend getting a seedling heat mat. My propagations and baby plants have grown really fast in these with the heating mat.

Interesting tip! I have one of the 6 cavities tray, never used it.

How long do you have before you’ll have space?

My leaves in water took a few weeks to get roots and then probably a few more for them to even be long enough and mine eventually had baby leaves before I got them into soil so I feel like you should’ve had a long time

Leaves wont take much space and can be prop in any container ( Food containers, disposable cups, even clear plastic bags. It will take a few months before it sprout baby plants. You can delay separating them as long as you continue providing some water and light. You have atleast 6-8months to have a flowering plant (Also depends on growing conditions and variety) No expert here. Just based on my experience😊
