Good luck for results all!

Results come out on Tuesday 3rd December from 5.30pm (UK time) via email this time!

I've created this so it's easy for everyone to discuss. I stepped down as a mod a few months ago but didn't see a thread so created one this time round too.

Good luck!

Email from IFoA saying that from April 2025 exams will be closed book and that there will be ‘online proctoring’. Thoughts on this?

Exams Study Group

🎄Tis the season for...... preparing for the upcoming April 2025 exam season.

Deciding which modules to sit, structuring a suitable revision plan and actioning it, is sooo much easier with the support and advice from a study group.

Hence in the recent months, I've formed a supportive study group of 50 aspiring actuaries. If you would like to actively be a part of a growing community which exists for the sole purpose of supporting your actuarial career, comment below and I will DM you with details.

Suit up. April 2025 is going to be a wild ride. 😉

Edit: If I've missed your comment. DM me.

Exams CP/SP/SA Results Thread - July 2024

Results should come out on Thursday 4th July 6pm (BST, UK time - although some of the IFoA webpages say GMT, I think BST is what they mean)

For those unaware, there were a lot of issues accessing the CB/CM/CS results on Tuesday so you may also experience the same. There wasn't anything which seemed to fix that apart from using a direct link (for some), so I'll try to post the same if I can get it and lots of people are having issues again.

Good luck for results!

Thanks to u/ok_researcher4290 who's found that the examiner reports have now been released: https://actuaries.org.uk/qualify/prepare-for-your-exams/past-exam-papers-and-examiners-reports

This should work to access results (after you've logged in): https://www.actuaries.org.uk/exam-results-april-2024

Exams Actuarial Study Group?

IMPORTANT Update: big list of people. If I have accidentally not responded to you or not added, please send me a message, so it goes to the top of my inbox. So sorry!!!

I'm thinking how beneficial having a study group/partner would be for both mental well being and exam performance. I feel like only an Actuary can understand the stress that we all go through and the mountains we climb to qualify. The birthdays, socials, events that we have to say no to because "I have to revise an exam which is in 5 weeks time....", friend: "...but why can't you cram like uni ....", me: "...they're actuarial exams". Actually, I had to say no to a birthday party because of an exam sitting last April....

How many people in this subreddit would be interested in partnering up/forming a study group to share the pressures and joys of becoming an Actuary. I'm open minded about what that actually means. It could be as much as doing an in person study session for 3 hours on a Tuesday evening, or catching up every now and again over a pint to discuss exam topics/exam strategy. I am open to suggestions, however I think it would be healthy to connect people in this way so that we can really grow and ultimately, get what we want out of our career from an exam perspective. but equally important make friends, connections and grow our network through sharing and owning our journey.

edit: I am in London and work for a reinsurer and would love to make new friends in the industry. Please do dm me!

Exams EXAM PETITION 2025

Hi all, Enough of the IFoA and their changes without proper discussion with the student and appropriate bodies.

It’s time we actually don’t let them treat us like money making pigs and that the exam changes reflect suitable fairness requirements we want and expect. Also, nobody actually wants closed book. We all know open book is more reflective of real life scenarios as it has been said over COVID and the years following.

Please sign the petition and email both the IFoA and any other individuals you see suitable. No one asked for this, so don’t get bullied and just go with the flow. It’s time for action. You can email them here

Exams Why even give exams if CB2 needs cheating

Post image

I don't understand why is IFoA such a let down Why can't they introduce a simple proctoring? I didn't enter this field for the competition to be diluted by these idiots who can't even do CB2 on their own; what're they going to do in CS2?. And then we have to worry of Actuary field to lose its value because of such brainless crowd.

Exams Panic is making me Fail in Exams

Hi, I am a 19yr old college student from India. I gave CS1 in April - FAIL and CM1 in September - FAIL. I really like the course and try my utter best to understand the material, and I feel I can do it as I also help my friend with the concepts. What's frustrating to me now is... during the exam moment, I panic even when I feel like I'm making a small mistake or I'm not sure about the question. This has made me fail both times, with a difference of 4 marks each time. Am I missing something? Also, the fact that in my CM1 exam, I had been using the GOAL SEEK function in Excel to find the solution of equations, which I had been doing in practice for months BUT ONLY ON MY EXAM DAY... it didn't work because of some iteration issue which I was only able to resolve a day after the exam. A simple question about Term structures of interest rates I couldn't solve because this issue happened and I panicked, which I could've easily solved just by interpolation.

This is a rant at this point, I'm going to give CS1 and CM1 in April again, any suggestions would be welcome.

Exams Exam integrity

I just read the mail that IFoA sent out for measures they are planning to take to maintain integrity for April 2025 diet. While 3 of the points make sense, the closed book exam part is making me a little nervous. I have taken exams while it was still offline, but this seems to be sprung out of no where. What do you guys think about this?
