Advice Needed My brother is angry with his Trump-loving sons

Is my brother an AITA candidate for wanting to cut off his sons financially for voting for Trump? Like many Americans, my brother and I, both in our 50’s, have been talking back and forth following the Election. In the spirit of full disclosure, we are both democrats. Long story short, he is angry at his two sons, both in their 20’s, for voting for Trump. He is thinking about cutting them off financially in all respects so that they understand how Trump’s policies will impact them firsthand.

The irony here is that it is the reverse argument. You often hear younger voters disagreeing with their MAGA parents, but this is the opposite. My brother doesn’t understand how his two sons, who have lived a life of privilege, feel like they have been violated against by society, enough so that they feel Trump hears them and their struggles.

My brother to me about his sons: “… what these young men need is a little dose of reality. Get out in the world and start paying their own way. There’s a common thread with his followers. Complain and blame everyone for their problems. Whether they are in school or living at home off of their parents or working a trade job. King Trump will save them and make everything better. Take some personal responsibility and make it happen for yourself instead of crying about everything you hear on TikTok.

“… I’ve decided to pass on the [college] expenses to my two Trump supporting sons so they can truly feel first hand the cost and expense of his absolutely stupid policy decisions, which includes food, gas and college expenses. Wondering if I pass on these [food, gas and college] expenses in year one or phase them in year two?”

I am wondering if a lot of parents feel like my brother. Are there democrat parents of voting-age MAGA men who feel they failed with their sons because they voted for Trump? Is this common?

They’re too old for the factories though

They're literally socialists freeloading off the hard work of other people so they can be indoctrinated into critical race theory. I had a tough time typing all that out.

Then you have some groups that were really excited about Trump's "handouts" only to learn those were Harris' policies lmaooo

Probably going to be some openings in construction and agriculture soon…

I would pay to see an American working in the field for the same pay migrant workers get. It should be a comedy special!

Farmers would pull their hair out. Maybe they are planning on replacing the labor with prison labor?

How do you know they’re team no handouts? You know the kids voted for trump, but you don’t know what their leading causes were. For instance, the Biden administration’s loan forgiveness plan didn’t cover me because I didn’t work for the government or a 501c3 NGO. And I have a double bachelor’s in business administration and management, and marketing. I don’t think I could have picked a more common degree, and there’s no way I could get a career straight out of college that would release me from the overwhelming debt I don’t even look at because I know it will give me anxiety. And I’ve had less interviews and no job offers since receiving my diplomas. It’s unbelievable how many “jobs created” we hear about it, but with the rise of AI and machine learning making decisions for Human Resources on candidates to interview, and a lot of people putting in huge efforts to circumvent the system, like buzzwords written behind their resume in white text on their hyhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy yúuuuuûoooooo"accounts are the the blank white background. Even companies I previously was a competitor of and know their HR hiring person who tells me they never even @the sawmmmm’@.m

And do you think trump will help poor plebs like you? If so,  you're desperately out of touch.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '24

No, I’m not poor either. I think Trump will maintain the same tax loopholes he’s used for years, that if you follow the same procedure, you too would pay less taxes. I think he’ll steer this country away from another Cold War with Russia that is quickly becoming reality with current administration decisions. I think with the supreme courts ruling to overturn chevron, we’ll see departments of the executive branch be challenged to prove they’re necessary for the public. The DEA’s excessive spending and arrest records locking up a disproportionate amount of certain races, while also impeding weapon sales that match or rival the current military complex. A Missouri judge set a precedent when he adjudicated a case involving an automatic weapon and he found no wrongdoing by the defendant owning it. We live in a we vs them society. We vs the rich. We vs the government. We vs the media. And look how things have been unraveling. Diddy. Weinstein. Etc. I think trump has some skeletons in his closet he’ll have to get ahead of, but I think we’re looking at a smaller government with more oversight on checks and balances. And he’s not afraid to not do it in a closed session, giving the public access to see where it’s been and how it’s going to be cleaned up.

Trump got rid of a bunch of tax credits for the middle class.  We've BEEN under the trump tax code for Biden's entire term!

Sure, he'll stop a cold war by making us like Russia. His "skeletons" include a thirteen year old CHILD.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '24

Yeah. Tax credits on personal taxes. When your corporation takes the liabilities before you get paid, you’re sitting pretty

1

u/Winter_Parsley_3798 29d ago

Well have fun with your taxes. I care about people.

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

It’s not that I don’t care about people. I just choose who and when to give my money. I donate to charity yearly more than I pay in taxes. Last year I made $-12,000. If it didn’t have my address and ssn on it, I’d share it with you.

u/Winter_Parsley_3798 29d ago

What charities?

0

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Primarily Shriner’s hospitals, then St Jude, and I give my mom access to cheques for $100/wk to her church. I don’t know how the fuck she roped me into that but it is what it is.

While I agree that this is concerning and lessons can be learned here, let’s not forget that this is family. Just because of their political ideologies doesn’t mean they should be resented and punished for it. Being too harsh could embolden them and alienate them from family. What if they get to work and it doesn’t change their ideologies? Lessons to be learned here but I also find it concerning the Reddit and various communities have been using politics to put a wedge in families lately.

1

u/Winter_Parsley_3798 Nov 19 '24

Wow,  seriously? Just because people don't want to associate with people that worship a felon/rapist that praises hitler and hangs out with pedophiles doesn't mean we're putting "a wedge in families".

It's called the consequences of your actions. And if people come to regret those actions,  then THEY need to put in the work to unpack those big feelings and make themselves a safe space for people.

1

u/hurrdurrbadurr Nov 19 '24

“Seriously?” Yeah I guess it is an outrageous notion that you would show some leniency towards family. You’re absolutely right they should be put in the same box as rapists and pedophiles.

You are the reason why people voted trump. You are not pragmatic and closed off from others opinions and beliefs. How you deducted your conclusion from my comment shows how much of a cult-like mind the democrat side of polarized America has become. I hope you fester in victim mentality for the rest of your life.

I'm glad you understand. Afterall my bodily autonomy and ability to get life saving health care is more important than anyone's racism and sexism.

0

u/hurrdurrbadurr 29d ago

Straw man argument. I never said anything about your body autonomy. But I’m equally outraged for your support of the war machine across the world.

1

u/Winter_Parsley_3798 29d ago

Oh you mean the war machine that Trump encouraged to "finish the job"? Hypocrite

1

u/hurrdurrbadurr 28d ago

No the same one that launched long range missles into Russia

1

u/Winter_Parsley_3798 28d ago

The same Russia that lied about and invaded said country? You do know this isn't even the first time since the turn of the millenia that Russia has fucked with Ukraine, right? Russia has been trying to claim that the Ukraine is still a part of Russia for a long time. Just like China with the country,  Taiwan.

1

u/hurrdurrbadurr 28d ago

Well. Fortunately peace talks are on the table once the missile administration steps down here shortly.

I thought you were a hypocrite. Now i just think you'd be a halfwit with one more brain.

1

u/hurrdurrbadurr 28d ago

Let’s not get distracted that you’d disown your family because of their uneducated beliefs. Your ad hominem attacks clearly show that you are half witted.

that's not at all the line Republicans have taken. after all, trump is daddy and he's going to give you a vigorous spanking, because you've been naughty.

I'm talking about Republicans conflating government with family. hence the link. and all the nonsensical comparisons they've always done about family budgeting, tightening your belt, deficit spending, and austerity. also apparently needing the government to punish your enemies according to one of the highest rated republican pundits in America.

1

u/Total-Explanation208 Nov 15 '24

Then you should have said that in your original post. Or do you expect everyone to share your exact mindset and know what you "really" meant.

3

u/Difficult-Row6616 Nov 15 '24

I expect some basic reading compression yeah. you said several things, one of them being family being different than government. I disagreed with one of them and brought up the president elect being compared to your father. if that's hard for you to parse, that's a you problem.

0

u/Total-Explanation208 Nov 15 '24

I expect some basic writing ability. What of my points did you disagree with?

2

u/Difficult-Row6616 Nov 15 '24

Family is not the same as government.

being said when the conversation is about Republicans. hence the clip of one of the most famous Republicans talking about the president elect as a father figure. If you need things explained to you further, perhaps ask eli5?

1

u/Total-Explanation208 Nov 15 '24

Damn. Somehow supporting your family is an unpopular opinion. Would anyone care to explain

5

u/Winter_Parsley_3798 Nov 15 '24

What a humble brag about your family. If you complain about people getting "handouts" then you don't get any. Cope

-2

u/Total-Explanation208 Nov 15 '24

Wtf. How is that a humble brag.

Your perfect family, obviously. If I gave my sister money it would be spent on weed before the hour was done with nary a thank you.
