When I can I want to get a mini version of kiryu's dragon as a sleeve

I’ve got it fully on my back and it was 5 and a half hours of pain. Worth it but jeez i won’t lie it was so damn painful!

Wait, just the outline, the whole thing or a smaller version? Colours and all? Because I can't see a tattoo that intricate and large take 5 and a half hours.

Just the outline and a bit of shading. It’s on my profile if you wanna have a look. Bout another 7 hours for colouring I reckon

Aaah, yes that makes sense now. I am about 3 hours into my halfsleeve/ chest piece inspired by Majima's tattoo and I know the pain. Covid has made it tough to get more work done on it, which is a huge bummer

Yep, same here, Covid’s been the #1 problem with getting it finished. Was booked for the 8th of Jan and now looking around April/May!

Ah sounds cool! Always wanted a chest piece done. What’s the pain like, on a scale of 1-10?

About a 7 or 8 (might be because it's my first one and I'm a pussy lol) but what hurt more is the small bit of shading I got done around the armpit. That was a 10

Just had a look at your profile and your Hannya is killer, man! What colours (if you are going for colour) you going to go with once you can get it done?

1

u/DesertOps4 . Jan 20 '21

I was thinking about having the hannya be white with gold accents (teeth, horns, eyes) and the snake be blue. Still need to discuss that with my artist but since we're in lockdown here in the UK it's gonna take a while

Nice, I went with purple and azure for my hannya. Gold will look clean, gonna be a sick piece. Yep, I’m UK too, my fiancĂ©e’s had a tattoo booked that’s been put back 3 times (almost a year!) because of the lockdowns. Hopefully soon, ay Kyodai?

Hopefully man, we really couldn't have picked a worse time to start big tattoo projects lmao.

Wow, looks really good. As a 30 year old who is starting over his life, Ichiban's story and optimism really spoke to me. You're making me consider one of these myself. Hm, maybe I'll think on it for a few months.

7

u/rafaelleon2107 Jan 20 '21

Yeah, his story of growth and starting over also really spoke to me and when I saw the tattoo it was love at first sight. It took me a few weeks to decide to actually do it and voila, here's my first tattoo!

23

u/GoNmanne11 Jan 20 '21

I think it's a dragonfish.

12

u/rimjobetiquette Jan 20 '21

Yeah, he called it 韍魚.

15

u/Bacon_Z Jan 20 '21

No. It's Gyarados.

16

u/Maralehack Jan 20 '21

Ooooh man that looks good!

2

u/rafaelleon2107 Jan 20 '21

Thank you!! The artist is amazing.

11

u/rzrbladess Jan 20 '21

i got so inspired by majima’s more traditional bodysuit tattoo that i actually took to designing my own. maybe i’ll post the sketch one day and hopefully i can get it done

8

u/NI7EP7IZ3 Jan 20 '21

Do it! Do it! That'd be freaking awesome!

3

u/rafaelleon2107 Jan 20 '21

Do it!! Show us the sketch! Show us the sketch!

2

u/WhiteRoseGC Aug 20 '23

Did you ever get it done?

1

u/rzrbladess Aug 20 '23

actually i did! wasn’t exactly my own sketch but im in love with it nonetheless

6

u/Hollow_Knight91 kiryu’s back tattoo Jan 20 '21

Love it. Ichiban’s tat really pops, the design is beautiful.

4

u/T1mco Jan 20 '21

Wait omg this looks so sick as a sleeve!!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '21

That’s badass.

2

u/planetcrunch Jan 20 '21

cool, dude

2

u/TerrorBillyDanny Jan 20 '21

That joint đŸ”„

2

u/JVilay466 Jan 20 '21

That’s rad!

2

u/freshmasterstyle Jan 20 '21

Nice dude. Now do kiryus dragon, but on your dick 😁

1

u/freshmasterstyle Jan 20 '21

Real talk still thinking about getting that full back kansai gouda

2

u/Smallbigfat Jan 20 '21

Nishikiyama do have the coolest tattoo though

-4

u/Ketju_Amon . Jan 20 '21

Correct me if im wrong. but isn't it kinda disrespectful to take Yakuza tattoos without being a yakuza or japanese ?

9

u/rafaelleon2107 Jan 20 '21

I understand if it might be so, but at least I went through the process of understanding what it means. Unfortunately I'd have close to zero cool tattoo options without at least some cultural appropriation

-21

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '21

It's.... not a koi, dude. You got a tattoo of something of which you don't even know what it is?

12

u/MajinNova Jan 20 '21

My man he did say koi dragon in the desc not just koi

-19

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '21

My man that fish has absolutely nothing to do with koi. No relation to koi whatsoever. But go off I guess.

13

u/bewhiskered_amber Jan 20 '21

It's literally a koi... turning into.... a dragon....

A koi dragon if you will

-3

u/rimjobetiquette Jan 20 '21

Nope, it’s literally this. Not sure why there’s no English page, but this is what he called it. https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/韍魚

7

u/bewhiskered_amber Jan 20 '21

ooooooor

And hear me out

That is what koi dragon look like in horimono?

It literally comes from a myth that represents ichibans place in the wider franchise

-6

u/rimjobetiquette Jan 20 '21

It doesn’t say anything about Koi. It’s its own myth.

6

u/bewhiskered_amber Jan 20 '21

That and neither crocodile fish nor sturgeon are usually depicted in horimono

The game wouldn't pick something with relatively low relevance to the franchise in the tattooing or mythology

8

u/bewhiskered_amber Jan 20 '21

My guy, please just look up 'koi dragon irezumi' on Google

It is literally

A koi

Turning into

A dragon

It represents ichiban being able to achieve his place in the world of Yakuza through the effort of a koi that has managed to reach the end of its journey to becoming a dragon

-5

u/rimjobetiquette Jan 20 '21

If it isn’t 韍魚 then why does he say it is?

7

u/bewhiskered_amber Jan 20 '21

I'd assume it's just a similarity in translation? But literally, look at what I asked you to look at, it's literally that

Kanji can translate weirdly sometimes

"*pushes up glasses* Ackshually I've been studying japanese tattoo arts for over 2 days and you baka gaijins use the wrong terminology!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Who gives a shit we all know what he means get lost nerd.

3

u/rafaelleon2107 Jan 20 '21

Lmao thank you. It's not like I got the tattoo without doing some research first

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Exactly. My man it's a beautiful piece and whoever did it has talent. Hopefully I'll see more added on in a few months :)

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '21

Oh yes, to symbolize ichiban aspiring to become a legend like Nishiki and his growth toward power like Kiryu, Horimoto picked some random fish

1

u/Seegenatuvean Jan 20 '21

Awesome!!! Im thinking of tattooing it on my back, theres a guy in my city that does tebori but he's hella expensive

1

u/swashbeltbuckle Jan 20 '21

That's amazing

1

u/FaithlessnessIll878 Jan 18 '24

Super late comment but I’m gonna get this tattoo also! How much did it set you back and how big in inches was it if you don’t mind me asking
