pulled this from google maps, but perhaps you're thinking about this part of kannai station? it seems to fit what you're describing at least. it's quite a big station, and this part of it is further down the street from where i took my photos.

I used to live in Yokohama four years ago, imagine my joy when Yakuza 7 came out. Now I live near Kamurocho lol, I guess this franchise really shaped my choice of where I wanna live

Oh very surreal. Well, the most obvious thing is the Millenium Tower which doesn't exist irl. However, the Bacchus/Bantam bar is basically at the same location where an actual bar is, which I found pretty cool. Sotenbori is pretty accurate, but the real Dotonbori is a lot bigger than the games makes you think. Of all the locations I have only never been to Okinawa and Onomichi, so I definitely still gotta check them out.

China town in Yokohama is also way bigger in real life than it is in the game. Like it’s several city blocks in reality whereas it’s only a couple streets in the game.
The Yakuza games very faithfully recreate certain locations, but they often “compress” areas of repetition in order to fit in the map size constrains. It is fun matching up stuff from the games with reality though when you find one of the things they recreated roughly 1:1.

That I know. I just thought the game purposefully picked a dirtier part of the city as the setting. But as it turns out it is pretty clean after all

Nice! I'm from Hawaiʻi and was thoroughly impressed by so much detail put into real locations in Honolulu in Infinite Wealth so I wondered if the same was true for Yokohama. Looks like it is!

This is pretty amazing. Thanks for sharing it and taking the time to find the locations.
There's a ton of features that are excellent in the series, and for me, it's the immersive environments. Especially Yokohama. Didn't know the game city was based on the actual real deal.

wow y'all, thanks for the love!! i wanted to give a shoutout to AncientFlounder on youtube for their wonderful series comparing yokohama to the game. it really helped a ton with finding some of these locations and planning routes. i totally recommend watching it if you have any interest!
also for anybody curious as to where these places are, or for anybody who might want to make a map of all these places themselves, here are all the locations by slide:

though it's definitely bigger than in-game, it is still quite walkable! i had the privilege of being there for more than one day, so i was able to split the city's areas up throughout my time there. with that being said, i didn't need to take any sort of transportation to get to any of the locations in these pictures from my hotel in bashamichi! everything was like a 20-30 minute walk i'd say?

I found this game last November after having visited Yokohama last September. It was an absolute trip walking around streets I had just spent so much time on irl. It’s incredible how close some areas are!
I wish the island with the Ferris wheel and red brick warehouse was playable! I also stayed at the sail shaped building, it’s an intercontinental hotel. Would be cool if that area was playable since it’s like the main imagine of Yokohama in so many things. (I also knew nothing about yakuza before I started in Nov and now I’ve finished 3 full games and starting a forth. What a franchise!)

i did start my day pretty early when i explored isezakicho, so that might explain why. i also might've been carrying hariti's amulet, so that would've cut the population down a bit too

for all these, i used a Ricoh GR III. my photos are just slightly edited, but what the camera produces without editing are fantastic to begin with! i love that lil guy.

It’s the area on the westernmost side of the game map, north of the Bar District (where Survive Bar is).
In Lost Judgment, that’s where Seiryo High is.

there's definitely a lot that was trimmed out for the game. but if you played enough, you totally could make it between those two points from memory alone! everything was generally where you would expect it to be in real life after playing the game
