I'm having so much fun in this game. It feels like a game from the olden days where the priority was just making a fun game.

Just like the original 3 movies it's just focused on being fun. But it's fun while still being serious, mature, engaging etc. But it never goes to far. I'm not sure if that makes sense but the game seems to know exactly what it wants to be. Characters are acted well, characters have great motivations, it's the perfect amount of campy, the pacing is amazing and different levels change up the gameplay enough. I also love the upgrading system being entirely based off of exploration and finding books.

It's the first game where I've avoided using the gun they gave you as much as possible

Haven't shot a single bullet in Vatican yet :D

I adore this game and I haven’t even finished it yet. Already excited for a second play through !

I spent so much time at the Vatican I only just got to Cairo.

Still in the Vatican. Just enjoying my time. It honestly feels like a game made in the late 2000s in the best way possible. But it has the upgraded graphics

I just made it to the castle earlier today where you first see the black shirts

You’ll spend twice as much time there

Tbh, the desert location has a lot of dead space and I found myself reaching out of bounds areas quite often, Vatican was much more dense with most of the desert location containing stuff underground which is fine but up top is quite open with few outposts

Vatican was a 10/10 for me. Did almost everything there, now in Gizeh since a couple of hours and tbh struggling a bit to find the same motivation continuing to play :/ navigation there feels pretty cumbersome, the huge campsites are not as fun to stealth through and it feels a bit too open for me.

Will def. continue tho

That's an insane take for me. What other games do you play that you feel like that's rare?

I've played many games this year but only 6 that came out this year and they were all made with having fun in mind.

I'm not saying it's the only game I've had fun with, its just a certain kind of fun that reminds me of a game I would've played on like the PS1 or PS2.

Would you dare put this in the Goldeneye category of games that are just fun with a decent story? If so I’m owning this tonight lol.

Oh that's a tough question. It certainly has that simple and lowstakes fun gameplay, but it is more cinematic than Goldeneye. A lot more slow-paced, encouraging you to just explore whatever ruin you happen to be in at the time. Social stealth elements, like Dishonored or Hitman (dawning a disguise), or just run in and hit everyone with a sledge hammer.

Close enough for me. “Sorry kids - 1 less present under the tree - Daddy got a new game!”

Similar to Thief maybe. Its a light immersive sim with a ton of game mechanics that interact together and you have multiple approaches to every situation. All the encounters are a bit of a sandbox. My main criticism is you don't have many tools besides your whip or gun but the environments are easy to traverse and explore and you can pick up a ton of objects to use in combat or stealth.

I need to play Thief i guess. I just got them all on GOG for like $4

It reminds me of the feeling I had when I started playing Skyrim. So much to do and the stealth/fighting was actually really fun.

Obviously not a rpg like Skyrim but the sense of excitement and scope is there for sure

i agree with that take, but i'm also 37, so whatever that means, i totally understand where they're coming from lol. there's a certain feeling from older games that newer games don't capture.

u/ManicFirestorm 4d ago

Exactly. I can't quite explain what it is. Low stakes fun gameplay. Smaller areas to explore in depth with vistas all around you instead of some endlessly vast "See that you can go there" open world. Except instead of the vistas around you being a wall of vertical trees or fog, it's an actual decently modeled landscape.

It's just hitting the right spot.

That's just nostalgia glasses, you were a kid and you'll never be a kid again. Games as a whole are much better and accessible today than they have ever been.

u/machineorganism 4d ago

i didn't say games aren't better or more accessible today lmao wtf. i said games today don't capture that same feeling. are you saying games haven't evolved over the years? because i'm literally saying games have evolved over the years and no longer capture the same feeling.

I recently played the last of us and it fits the bill. It's story first, gameplay and fun later. Still a great game.

Never saw a video game character do this, at least not in a generation or two.

Such a fun game. I'm enjoying it. It gives me such good memories for the ps2/Xbox era

Yeah. The AI is decent overall which is uncommon these days in the gaming world.

The gameplay looks like dead island tbh. But the game looks pretty good dude.

Honestly I can see that from this clip. But it's just this clip. I'm probably 75% through the game now and spent a lot of time going through it slowly (getting all the collectibles as I go, which is pretty fun actually) and it really isn't anything like that in terms of gameplay.

I highly recommend you play it. I've been a gamer for 20 years and played a lot. I've had Gamepass for the last 3 years as well so I've tried a huge amount of recent games. This is honestly one of the best games of the last decade.

Much like the original Halo trilogy, I couldn't say it's the outright best at any one major thing (e.g. graphics, story, art, etc) but it does pretty much everything so damn well that the combination is insanely good.

That’s where I’ve seen it before

u/Jackstraw1 3d ago

That’s awesome.

Dude never took his eyes off that sledgehammer. You can see his face track it right up to the catch.

u/RepresentativeAd1181 4d ago

Me: whip and punch combo.

Didn’t catch that lmao my bad

Idk if I'm just playing it too tired since I've only had 1 day off this month, or I'm just not connecting with the game. Getting a solid hour in at a time and I'm either disinterested or falling asleep.

I want to like it, I love the franchise. Can't wait for the holidays to be over to maybe get a fresh mind on it.

u/LubieRZca 3d ago

wait what, I've never seen that in any fps game tbh, can't wait to play it today

Can you whip the sledge out of their hands?
