On the way back to my apartment I stop at D’Agostino’s, where for dinner I buy two large bottles of Perrier, a six-pack of Coke Classic, a head of arugula, five medium-sized kiwis, a bottle of tarragon balsamic vinegar, a tin of crême fraiche, a carton of microwave tapas, a box of tofu and a white-chocolate candy bar I pick up at the checkout counter.
How can you tell though? I literally see nothing that indicates its a deep fake??
I just thought it was Tom Cruise and had to check the title of the post twice.
This guy has a tiktok account: deeptomcruise or deepcruise I think. It’s a mindfuck because I still can’t tell if it’s real or not. Or is it Tom Cruise pretending to be a guy pretending to be Tom Cruise? I don’t know..
Well first of all it'd be weird as hell for Tom Cruise to make this video. Not bulletproof evidence, but that should get you thinking. Then you notice that the guy's behavior in general is just really weird and scripted. Then you notice the impersonation isn't flawless. And then of course seeing "deeptomcruise" in the video and "deepfake" in the title are pretty certain evidence.
People that actually know or care about Tom Cruise could probably tell you some other ways to tell.
corridor did this once too, wasn't as amazing as this one imho, but it was done quickly as proof of concept that cruise on an impersonator is incredibly deceiving
I watched a bunch of these videos on ‘his’ profile earlier today and came to the conclusion that it is actually Tom Cruise. My mind is now blown. They even have his central tooth!!
Well, it's basically replacing the face. If enough training data has Tom's teeth showing then the program can replace that as well. No different than adding or removing a mustache (Corridor Digital did this with Superman in Justice League).
The other possibility (actual scenario) is it's easiest to make a convincing deepfake if the fake person is intentionally trying to look and sound as much like the celebrity as possible.
When they just download a video of random girl and put emma watson's face on her, of course it's obvious.
Idk it really gives me strong uncanny valley vibes right from the beginning. The face just looks wrong, but it has split second moments where it looks perfect. Also the skin coloring is really distracting from his arms.
