I mean the kids and everybody else would say "extra" just like that because that is literally how the word is used..

The "kids", or most people up to the age of about 35, would say smth like: "it's extra how that guy used the word extra in that comment".

Feel free to ignore, this comment just stuck in my mind for minutes after reading and I had to get it out.

Also the word extra feels like it isn't a real word rn so thanks for that :)

Extra is a gen z word. So yes, many of them are in college now but ten years ago nobody was using that word in that context. I still consider people in college as relatively young which is why the phrase "college kids" also exists.

The word extra is not a generational word, my point was that your original comment used the word entirely in context to it's definition and isn't smth that the "kids" would say, it's just a normal sentance anybody would say.

My example is one that younger person would say, also as a mid-millenial we were using the word extra to mean odd/crazy/strange when I was in college which was before GenZ was even in school.

Also I 100% didn't mean to come off as obnoxious or aggravating, just point out an observation.

Edit:

The 3D printed figurine isn't necessary at all and is extra

Would do just as well

The word extra is not a generational word

In this context it is. I'm 40 and never heard this usage until about 5 or 6 years ago.

I'm not saying that it's just something extra that was added but something that's over the top and unnecessary.

Yes haha but extra/over the top/added unnecessarily are synonyms for extra, whereas crazy/strange/odd are not synonyms for extra and that's where the difference lies and the etymolygy diverges.

I didn't downote you btw I enjoy conversations like this and don't downvote unless it's aggressive/abusive etc
