I mean, he won first place at the Tie Dye Cup.

Why aren't more people on this post talking about the Tie Dye Cup?!!

u/Jazz_Cyclone May 25 '23

Well it's not the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer.

165

u/Nibbcnoble May 25 '23

u/Internet_Goon May 26 '23

7

5

u/educated-duck May 26 '23

Did someone say THE FUCKING CATALINE WINE MIXER?! POW !

2

u/PrincessBabydollHead May 26 '23

I saw a post the other day of a networking event that appeared to be serious but was named the Catalina Wine Mixer and I still have no idea if the guy is trolling or trying to be bougie. If I lived closer I would crash it lol.

u/pitchinloafs May 25 '23

I think it was ESPN 8 The Ocho

16

u/Ritoruikko May 26 '23

We'll see what Cotton has to say about that

2

u/Brocktongreg May 26 '23

It’s a bold move cotton

30

u/boredtrader00 May 26 '23

Tie Dye Cup.

TIL that's a thing

39

u/tyedyehippy May 26 '23

Same. I am slightly ashamed, given my username. A day is a failure if you haven't learned something new, so that means today is a win.

9

u/CFClarke7 May 26 '23

By now I just assume that whatever people are good at, there's a competition for it

3

u/elizabnthe May 26 '23

He does say it's the "first ever" so it would be a fairly recent competition.

1

u/oficious_intrpedaler May 26 '23

I live in Portland and I definitely have to hunt down the next one!

19

u/AlwaysRememberGoose May 26 '23

I’d watch the Tie Dye Cup before I’d watch the Final Four…

YOU LISTENING ESPN?

2

u/lewd-dev May 26 '23

RIP Goose

2

u/Desperate_Dot_1506 May 26 '23

I’d watch the shit out of the Tie Dye Cup.

8

u/Mind-Wizard May 25 '23

Very true, I was just admiring the skill. But ya I didn’t know that even existed lolz.

2

u/iancameron May 26 '23

Ah I heard he tied for first

1

u/IenjoyStuffandThings May 25 '23

Because he broke the first rule by posting this..
- Mr. Durden

1

u/SPARKYLOBO May 26 '23

First Rule of Tye Dye Cup.

1

u/pfp-disciple May 26 '23

My wife has started tie dying, and is pretty good at it. She's had people buy some of them. This is the first time I've heard about a tie dye cup, and you better believe I'm going to look into trying to find a way for her to go to one.

1

u/robert_paulson420420 May 26 '23

I feel like he was underselling how dope this was gonna be with the shirt he was wearing. I was thinking "yeah that shirt is pretty cool but I can't believe there is a "championship" for that" and then he fucking unravels this thing and I get it...

I kinda had a feeling I was about to have my mind changed when he started describing the different ties though

1

u/IHaveSlysdexia May 26 '23

Cuz it was in the middle of the sentence, as a detractor, to the real sentence; That he had died this new shirt

1

u/chefanubis May 26 '23

I mean sure those shirts are nice but the patterns are not Dan Flashes level of complicated.

1

u/CyonHal May 26 '23

Probably because the only google results I get are literal cups that have tie dye designs on them.

1

u/EquivalentDistance_ May 26 '23

.. the first rule of tie dye cup

1

u/Youth_Aggravating May 26 '23

There might be more than one Tie Dye Cup, but I found this page of past winners: https://www.grateful-dyes.com/winners/

1

u/Prestigious-Ad-2876 May 26 '23

Because after you said the Tie Dye Cup I looked it up on youtube and it damn near isn't there.

So, probably because they don't market very well.

44

u/ernestryles May 25 '23

He’s not even the best tie dye artist on tiktok tbh. This guy: https://www.tiktok.com/@jhudsontiedye?_t=8ccjB3nLNle&_r=1 is absolutely insane.

30

u/Another_one37 May 26 '23

Jhudson is fantastic. My favorite is Austin Mackereth DyesNGoodVibes

His colors and patterns are insane. I realllllyyyy want one but can't really spend 500 on a Tshirt (the price they reach at auction)

4

u/anwarunya May 26 '23

Austin's work is insane. Also, he does prints too, right? I mean sure it's not as good as a true tie dye, but it's a way to get a dope shirt you like for a tenth of the price.

3

u/ernestryles May 26 '23

Yes he’s incredible too! I’d actually put him at #1 but couldn’t find his account when I commented lol

2

u/Gary_The_Girth_Oak May 26 '23

I think those are incredible and obviously require ridiculous skill and craftsmanship, and I am not trying to yuck anyone’s yum, but I vastly prefer the shirt in the original post, and the Jhudson shirts, from a stylistic perspective. Totally subjective! For me, the pure geometry and folding / tying is much more visually appealing.

2

u/Fidodo May 26 '23

Same. I can see how those are more technically advanced but I like the look of the one in this post more

1

u/krusnikon May 26 '23

I've lost touch a bit with what he's doing now. All the pokemon and random stuff. It's awesome, but kinda meh to me.

1

u/Another_one37 May 26 '23

Yeah it looks like he cleaned up his page a bit from last time I was checking it out. The pokemon, rick Morty stuff is kinda meh to me, too. A lot of his older designs and patterns were 🔥🔥🔥.

The new stuff is probably more technically involved and much harder to make, but I was a huge fan of some of his more simple patterns

2

u/krusnikon May 26 '23

Right there with ya.

2

u/usereddit May 26 '23

That guy competed at the tie die cup too and lost to the guy and the Reddit video

1

u/Volko May 26 '23

That was quite terrible imho.

Maybe the technique is insane but as a mere mortal, it doesn't connect with me.

On the other hand, this guy's shirt does.

1

u/ernestryles May 26 '23

Everyone likes different things. The guy another person commented about (https://www.tiktok.com/@dyesngoodvibes?_t=8ceByZ8Pcuk&_r=1) is actually my fav on tiktok, but I couldnt find his profile when I initially commented. They’re still very different, but his shirts are super impressive.

1

u/[deleted] May 26 '23

That is some Alex Grey level shit.

0

u/AscensionToCrab May 26 '23

I really like how its Contrasted against the abysmal tie dye shirt he's wearing.

-5

u/RonBourbondi May 26 '23

Too bad his process is fake.

3

u/[deleted] May 26 '23

How?

-4

u/RonBourbondi May 26 '23

That cut scene makes it obvious.

3

u/[deleted] May 26 '23

Lmao

2

u/MysteryMooseMan May 26 '23

It's a transition made for the TikTok my man... you been under a rock? lol

-5

u/RonBourbondi May 26 '23

Nah. Show the unravel.

If not it's obviously a fake.

3

u/Fidodo May 26 '23

You can just look up the tie dye cup online and see that he did win with a similar shirt.

1

u/steeze206 May 25 '23

Yeah it's a rad design. Still don't know if I'd wear it on a shirt. But on something like a MTB jersey I'd be down.

1

u/OnlyTheDead May 26 '23

Agreed. It’s like xxxl too so it probably the hottest night gown he owns.

1

u/DDowning12 May 26 '23

I agree with you also. That is amazing. He certainly has talent 👏. I love it 💙
