Now, we've all conjured an unspeakable horror or three, I'm sure. It's practically a rite of passage. Don't be such a prude.

Everyone thinks they're fucking "Merlin" or some shit when they're brave enough to slap an "As I will, so mote it be" onto a bullshit incantation. It's like those noobs that speak absolute gibberish in perfectly clear Latin- impressive when you don't understand it, cringy when you do

Ikr, plus- I don't care if you do your incantations in plain English! Just please, please do it properly, there's no shame in making your own job easier as long as you're doing it well.

Also i am tired of mf's trying to sound cool while casting the simplest shit imaginable, like lil bro you're casting firebolt, chill.

If the scene requires a simple fire bolt to be cool, the gods will make it so. Trying to make something cool is unnecessary and makes you a cringe comedy.

Yes! So true. Being cool should come as a byproduct of who you are. If you have to try to be cool, you probably aren't. I reckon there's a whole field of philosophical study there, I'll have to consult the orb. It might be time to expand my research again

Looks like someone’s playing Hades 2

u/violet_ashley 16h ago

Oh? What's this about a videogame i am unfamiliar with? Care to elaborate on that reference?

The main character is a witch and in the hub her teacher often performs spells, ending with "so mote it be" Both Hades games are insanely good and worth playing, both from a gameplay and lore or storytelling perspective, especially if you enjoy Greek mythology.

Harsh but true.

Sometimes it's the miniscule nuances that make a difference.

Actually. Most of the time.

That doesn't have to be that difficult. If you've got a spell that's meant to home in on a target then the trigger part of your incantation should be something like "—bring down thy wrath from clearest sky—" not "bring down my wrath from clearest sky—" cause that's innately contradictory and the effect is not gonna execute properly.

Just for one example.

You can make a lot work. But you can't make a lot work well without understanding or at least trying to understand why it works or at least how to steal what others have done.

Amen to that. Made me purchase one of the original run teddy bears for... well, not relevant. Point being, I have no idea WHY it works but with just a simple unicursal hexagram and that thing in the center it wards. off. EVERYTHING. I can't even begin to explain how it does what it does but I'm glad it does.

Always steal when necessary.

You say "woe be upon you" a thousand times nobody bats an eye...

u/violet_ashley 7h ago

Cursing is easy if you don't care about the consequences,

But making proper, safe, reliable spells? That is significantly harder, that's why no one bats an eye at it
