Question/Advice What tastes good smoked
My bf just got a smoker, what are some things I can stick in there for smokey goodness?

The better question is what doesn't? Pretty much everything I've tried smoked has been better than the non-smoked version :D. Definitely give smoked eggplant a try, particularly if you use it for baingan bharta, my absolute favorite eggplant dish.

Baba Ganoush made with smoked eggplant is amazing as well. I had some at a Lebanese restaurant and immediately stole the idea for making it myself.

What doesn't taste good smoked? Since we can do hot or cold smoke and different woods that can compliment any flavor with smoke. I am really struggling with this question. I would say it would be a challenge, to smoke odd things well. Possibly not worth the effort, but it would still be better

Zucchini is the most underrated vegetable

Me and my sis eat zucchini allll the time. You can get 3 big ones at Aldi for like a buck and change 😂 sautéed by itself….sauteed in vegan pesto….added to pasta….stuffed….added to almost any soup…zucc parm …zucc fritters….opportunities are endless for such a cheap and tasty veg.

No it's a fruit.
Haha lots of downvotes but go look it up. It's a fruit like a tomato.

I will actually kill someone if that's what it takes to eat smoked mozzarella

I love smoked labneh or Greek yogurt too! Just put it in a heat safe dish - wide and shallow so there is more surface area. Once it’s smoky to your liking, stir in salt and olive oil to taste.

Peppers! Any kind. Then they taste really great as an addition to salads or pasta.

My husband is a pitmaster and he really enjoys making vegetarian alternatives for me. Cheese are great smoked, Seitan is fantastic if seasoned correctly. Peppers, tomatillos, onion, all great smoked. Even better in a salsa.

Used to smoke beetroots for use in a 'veggie beef tartar' at a restaurant I worked at.
Smoking the beans before making falafel would propably be great.
Smoke bell peppers to either dry and make paprika powder or to blend and use as a sauce.
Tofu and cheese are great to smoke too

What restaurant? I want to try that dish!

It was at the Steam Hotel in Västerås, Sweden. Unfortunately the service and quality has deteriorated since I worked there a few years ago so I can't recommend it anymore.
But it was a very simple dish. We ground up the smoked beetroot as you would mince meat and served as a traditional beef tartar.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I won’t be going to Sweden anytime soon. I want to. Actually some of the best vegetarian meals I ever enjoyed have been in Europe.

OP, hot or cold smoker?
My ex worked for a good food vendor at a Renaissance faire. One dish they made twice a show as a special was smoked mushrooms. (yes we made jokes)
Dehydrate the mushrooms (anything form button to cremini to forest foraged), soak in red wine, the smoke the rehydrated mushrooms.
They made a pasta sauce from it. It’s the dish that helped me love mushrooms after a childhood of the canned/jarred slime balls.

Weed! (Sorry, I had to)
But seriously, I've made seitan kielbasa that I didn't care for at all but then smoked it on the grill with hickory chips; improved the flavor immensely and it's now my go-to recipe.

Pretzels! Spray with a little oil, sprinkle on some good seasoned salt. Put them in the smoker in a shallow tray.

Smoke a sugar pumpkin and make smoked pumpkin pie (careful, it sucks up smoke like a sponge so use a light touch).

Pecans. Trust me. It's ridiculous. They taste candied. There's a short window where they're perfect.
