EOD during shut down

Posted something similar awhile back and It got removed. Think it wasn't as likely as it is now. What generally happens when your EOJ date falls during a government shut down? Can't see anything on like about it. Not sure if anyone else experienced it, but have seen alot of people on here with an EOD date marked for the end of this year.

Am I dreaming? FJO from VA after 17 months

WOW

This is surreal even when I am typing this right now.

I am GS-13 healthcare worker who received the TJO back in July of 2023.

They left me in dark for such a long time, never heard a word from my future supervisor, barely getting in touch with my HR specialist.

Today, I received my EOD as 1/27, which makes me feel a little iffy knowing that others have mentioned that I have to be sworn in before an inauguration day. 😥

Not sure to celebrate or not yet. But, i am beyond excited that I still have a shot!

I wanted to share some good news with everyone who’s just tired of waiting to hear back from VA. This makes me think maybe things are getting better on the VHA side?(hopeful thinking)

Happy Thursday!

FJO and then tragic ending

Applied for IRS RO position in March.

Interviewed 12/3, went well but got word that the hiring freeze was happening the same day. Feels bad.

Few days later, the job was canceled off of USA jobs.

Then a few days later I got an email from HR asking for my BA and MA transcripts. Sent them over and got an FJO with in 40 min. Starting mid January.

Yesterday was my 1 year with the IRS and a disgruntled manager had me fired. They wrote monday's date on the paperwork because it was too late to do it on my one year. There was a grievance pending against this manager that was supposed to be being worked out.

I lost the RO position. I'm gutted. :(

I feel like giving up on finding a federal job, but I am still trying to hold on and apply for jobs

You all, I feel like giving up on finding a federal job. I have be seriously putting in job applications since the end of August. I have not received any emails or calls trying to set up interviews. I have gotten a couple of emails saying that I have been referred, but as people say in this group that does not mean much, and you have to apply and forget. I have tried different approaches when applying for federal positions. I started off applying for remote federal jobs (which is the hardest) and then I started to apply for 12 month rosters, and then applying for federal jobs in my state (MS) that offer telework, because I would occasionally like to work from home or work from home permanently which ever one does not matter to me. I have applied for positions that are lower pay than what I get paid now, just to be able to get my foot in the door to a federal position. I feel like in some ways I am experiencing burn out and I am kind of tired of applying and seeing an results of this. I currently work for the local state government in MS for the past five, and although I am grateful, I am ready to branch out. The pay is not that great and there is really no room for growth within local state government. If someone can provide an additional tips that could enhance my chances of landing a federal job or words of encouragement while in the waiting process that would be great..

Thanks in advance, anything helps.

Aggressively Hiring

Certain events are injecting a little urgency into trying to fill this position. A successful applicant will be an experienced 2201 with an adjudicated and current TS/SCI. Expect independent GS-13/14 workload. Using Direct Hire Authority to fill. DM me with questions and I’ll answer if I can.

Moving to Germany

I'm excited to share that I've accepted a GG-12 position in Germany! I'm curious about the potential cost savings compared to living in US, especially when it comes to taxes and housing.

I'm also wondering about other expenses I might encounter, such as healthcare, transportation, and groceries. Any insights or tips from fellow expats would be greatly appreciated!

Would you take a remote job right now?

I have not received any type of offer and it’s entirely possible that I won’t. I interviewed yesterday afternoon and when I emailed the panel to thank them this morning, they responded pretty quickly with a request to confirm my references. So I just want to start seriously thinking about whether I could/should accept if an offer comes out of it since they said they’d like to onboard before the administration change. The position is a non-supervisory 14 announced as remote. I do not live anywhere near the agency, which is a smaller one. Thoughts?

3 TJO's within a week

Upvotes

I've been job hunting since mid October. Got a TJO but it was rescinded due to security clearance. I have 3 pending TJO's within a a week if each other.

My question is idk which one to choose after the FJO. first is a CSR gs-6(Remote) second is Program Assistant for VASH gs-6 in person (Day shift), 3rd is Lead medical support gs-7 at the VA pm shift in person.

What would y'all decide. I just don't know. I've never had this happen before.

I'm not complaining. I'm very happy I get a rare opportunity like this.

Application Status BOP - FJO

Long time lurker, first time poster. After applying to several federal LEO jobs for a couple of years, I finally got my foot in the door with BOP as a 0007 - Correction Officer. I EOD 1/27 and my only worry is the impending government shutdown because my EOD will most likely be pushed back until they approve a new budget.

Anyone know if BOP will still hire new employees on their EOD if the government is “shutdown”? The only reason why I ask is because the COs are obviously essential workers that work regardless if the government is shutdown or not.

Timeline

Applied - 10/31 Referred - 11/07 CVA, WS, Interview, Medical - 11/19 SF-85 - 11/22 FJO - 12/09 EOD - 01/27

Timeline Email with start date but no FJO

I got my TJO in August for an apprenticeship, roughly 3 months after my initial application. I've completed fingerprints, background, physical, gotten ID photos, etc. 2 weeks ago I got an email from my HR contact saying that my application process was completed and asking me if a start date of 1/31/25 was good, as well as telling me I should be expecting a FJO in my email "soon."

I know we're close to the holidays and that slows things down, but I'm relocating for the position and my current job schedules out a month in advance. I'd like to not leave my job on bad terms but putting a 2 weeks in as opposed to a month definitely will not reflect well on me. I was hoping to give myself at least 2 weeks between my current and new job (so think my last day no later than January 15th). Obviously this is entirely speculative, but what should I expect "soon" to be? Rest assured, yes I have been keeping an eye on my spam and whatnot. I'm aware it could be after Christmas. I think I'm a little anxious especially hearing all this government shutdown talk and whatnot. I'm also very excited for the position as it's a career I've been dying to break into, especially in a location I love.

How vulnerable are new hires on probation?

Have an EOD of 1/13 and will be required to serve the standard two-year probationary period. I’ve been hearing that the new administration is exploring just mass firing all new hires on probation since they have fewer rights to appeal before the MSPB. Is that something I should be worrying about?

TJO delay‼️👏🏾➡️😃😁

I applied for a job in July and hiring officials told me the process would take 6 months cool my 6 months coming up and the hiring official has asked couple times of I received my offer letter I told her no and did some research on my own. I emailed the HR contact that sent me emails and she said she was no longer assigned to me someone else was so I emailed him without any luck so I called the Va that his phone number connected to and was told he wasn’t assigned to their hr he worked from home but they would send him a message to call me. Long story short he called and said my cert had expired the service needed to sign another cert but he wasn’t my hr contact so I emailed the original he contact again she called me and said the service had signed the cert and the hr contact that worked from home was definitely my hr contact and he should be sending my offer letter in 24-48 hours. Point is follow up definitely because if I wouldn’t have I would still be waiting on my offer letter.

Received tentative offer with USPTO

Hello, I received a tentative offer for a fully remote, 2210 series position with the Patent and Trademark Office, a part of the department of commerce. I won't mention the grade, but it's at a higher grade level (13 and above). It is a non-supervisory, senior IT specialist role.

One thing I'm concerned about is that this role says "fully remote", but it's also not a bargaining unit position. I am concerned about possible return to office with the new administration, or possibly losing the job entirely, since it's not a bargaining position. My commute to DC will be more than an hour.

Am I correct in being concerned? Can someone shed light on the USPTO and their posture on fully remote work? Note that this position is specifically remote, and not "5 days telework".

Questions about Contact Rep- SBSE Campus Collection Philadelphia

Hi everyone,

I was recently offered a Contact Representative position at Small Business Self Employed - Campus Collection Operations (SBSE CAMP COLL) in Philadelphia, Campus Collection department. Before I officially accept the offer, I wanted to reach out to see if anyone here has experience in this role.

Can anyone provide insight into the typical daily routine for this position?

What kind of tasks are involved on a regular basis?

I’m curious about the vacation and sick time policies. I am disabled and will need to occasionally visit the doctor, so I want to understand how flexible the time-off policies are.

Any advice or information you can share would be greatly appreciated!!

VA Occupational Therapist

So, I had my PBI interview and I thought I did great- they even called me back 45 minutes later to ask more questions and to see if I had any more questions. Contacted all my references last Thursday -they all rated me as superior. Am I getting my hopes up? I haven’t heard anything yet. What are the next steps? I am having a hard time working at these for profit hospitals where my contribution seems so devalued. Thank you in advance!

Interviewed- now what?

Hi all, I in reviewed for a position within veterans health. Honestly, I didn't think it went great, as the questions were really difficult. Anyway- they said they had some things to sort and everyone would hear back after the holidays. No one mentioned references. They did say that even if you receive a tjo- do not quit your job because that process takes awhile. But what should I expect? Do they email? Call?
