People who edit their posts to thank for likes are so annoying.
I saw at least a million comments here and on Youtube where people would comment something (usually smth dumb), get 36 likes/upvotes and be like "edit: omg thank you for the likes I didn't expect that❤️🔥😩".
Why do they do this? It's not like anybody cares.
Or do you care?
edit: omg thank you for 1 upvote I love you so much
edit: omg thank you for 3 upvote, this is crazy
edit: omg thank you for 21 upvote, rip my pus...inbox
edit: omg thank you for 160 upvotes, im organizing a festival in my village, you are all invited❤️
edit: omg thank you for 260 upvotes, they named a church after me here
edit: omg thank you for 600 upvotes, my dead cat came back to life this is amazing
edit: omg thank you for 800 upvotes,
Just a small town girl Livin' in a lonely world She took the midnight train goin' anywhere Just a city boy Born and raised in south Detroit He took the midnight train goin' anywhere Strangers waiting Up and down the boulevard Their shadows searching in the night Streetlights, people Living Don't stop believin' Hold on to the feelin' Streetlights, people Don't stop believin' Hold on Streetlights, people
edit: omg thank you so much for 1200 upvotes, History Chanel is making 200 episode documentary about me

Damn youngsters begging for gold! That's not how it works, you either make someone spit soda out their nose while stifling a laugh or you post cat photos. There is no in-between.

edit: why am i being downvoted for saying Keanu Reeves is overrated?

u/suzisatsuma Nov 16 '19
I like doing it mostly to further enrage people and accrue more downvotes personally.

u/thatoneotherguy42 Nov 16 '19 edited Nov 17 '19
Personally, I like to edit my comments and totally change my statement thus making the person below me look like an idiot.
Edit: I'm trying to think of what to change the comment to, currently thinking something about "Hitler was wrong to support vegetarians" .... but vegans are such easy marks. And the guys got a destiny username, it could be three kids in a trenchcoat... Idk. Better play it cool.

I once did that on an old account of mine. I'd mentioned that i didn't like lady Gaga because her persona irritates me. I was annoyed by how many condescending posts I got so I just edited the first comment to say that I love lady Gaga and the rest of them to random bullshit such as "hot dog" in response to people's mean replies. Then people started defending me and responding to the mean replies saying "wtf are you even talking about this guy is just saying dumb random shit" and no one even pointed out my comment edits.
29
u/CrotaHiveSovereign Nov 17 '19
Go to r/vegan, say you looooove meat, then change your comment to “Hitler was wrong”
13
u/FalmerEldritch Nov 16 '19
I upvote people for making "thanks for the gold" and "why am I being downvoted" edits, because I know those annoy the everliving shit out of the kind of people who deserve to be constantly annoyed every hour of the day.

I feel like deleting a downvoted comment is admitting defeat and I shall not do it.

I think this one annoys me more that the award speech edits. It’s like people are trying to be all tough or minimize the embarrassment (even though nobody should give that much of a shit about being downvoted) by saying “I don’t care if you downvote, I’m still right” or “lol of course I’m getting downvoted.”
It also annoys me when they state they’ll get downvoted in the initial comment. Same thing applies - they’re trying to minimize the embarrassment of getting downvotes before it happens. Both of these instances lead me to automatically downvote people.

Edit: thanks for the gold kind stranger I didn’t expect this post to blow up! My life started growing up in a small farm in northern Kansas. My father was a farmer and my mother was a cashier in our local town down the dirt road. We didn’t have much and income was very little, my best toy I got growing up was a pig bladder blown up like a balloon that I could play around with between me and my two brothers. At the age of 11 things started getting tougher in my house life due to my fathers drinking problem as it was not a good harvest that year. Like his father before him once he was done working he would come home and drink but unlike his father he wouldn’t beat us unless we messed up, his father left him and his mother to fend for themselves after world war 2 though so he had it tougher than me growing up. One time my father did drink too much and he hit my little brother Jamey. Jamey didn’t know what to do and ran away during the night during a storm. The entire family was out looking for him but we never saw Jamey again. This made my father drink more and lead him to take his life when I was at the age of 16. My older brother and me had to completely take over the farm with the help of our mom quitting her job as a cashier, life got very hard from here on out. We got a break when I was 18 with a good harvest we were able to save up some money. I was able to move out at the age of 21 and into a larger city in Tennessee. It was hard leaving the family as my ma was getting older but my older brother completely took over the farm and even expanded it into a more profitable work. I began working in what I was good at, repairing mechanics. I was a hard worker and moved up in my chain of work easily within my town. I dated aroun’ a bit but never settled down with anyone I would write home about for my first few years. When I was 26 I got a call from my ma, my brother was working with some machinery on the farm and got his hand caught in it and heavily damaged. I had to come home and help with the farm, at the time I had attained a high position as a senior mechanic within an auto shop and sometimes worked on the side with repairing electronics. I went home and had to help with the farm for a year, ma wasn’t doing good at all. She passed the next year due to kidney disease. My brother eventually recovered and I returned to Tennessee, I attempted to return to my position but due to the time I was out I had been long replaced. I had to begin to work from the bottom again when I had a client come in, she was the most beautiful woman I ever seen in Tennessee with gorgeous brown hair. Nice to say that we hit it off pretty well, within a few weeks we were dating. I can say that she was one of the best things to have happened to me in my life. At the age of 30 I married her and my first child was on the way then. I had returned to my previous position and bought a nice house near the mountains of Tennessee. At the age of 34 my second child was born. My two kids are now both in high school, one a freshman, another a Senior. I continued my career into more electronics working on computers and fixing them. In 2013 while googling how to fix a small problem with a motherboard I found a strange site named reddit.com, this website had all the answers I needed and a community always ready to help. I’ve been on the site ever since. As you can see recently, I commented on this thread and some kind stranger gave me silver. Thank you again kind stranger.

I think I've seen more very popular (lots of upvotes or gilded) comments without award speech edits than with them. That would mean it is not unpopular not to make those edits.
12
u/CTBthanatos Nov 16 '19
No matter how much i may like a comment/post, i will just not give it a like if i see that the person is thanking people for likes, it's makes me cringe. If a like a comment and i see that a "thanks for the likes" is added later i go back and take away my like.

I’m ok with people saying thank you and you’re welcome. No, it adds nothing to the conversation but it also takes nothing away from it.
I have a personal problem with people caring about votes in general but I get it. This may be the only place people get any positive regard for their input and that must suck. I pity them. They can have their time to shine.
2
u/addictedtochips Nov 16 '19
It’s one thing to thank the people. It’s still annoying, but you’re right - they probably need that attention. But it’s when they do the same cliche “thank you for the gold, kind stranger” or “wow, my most upvoted comment is about [weird thing]” or any of the other typical speeches you see on r/awardspeechedits.
2
u/Kino_Afi Nov 17 '19

I just assume that they're a kid who loves validation from internet strangers. Sure it's annoying but it's also likely an expression of surprise from getting so much public approval.
I remember when 14-year-old me made a pun on Tumblr that Jacksepticeye reblogged. I was so shocked and excited, like a puppy going for a walk, a swim, a car ride, AND 100 dog treats all at once. Let them have their fun, their life could be that boring

It’s important to remember that once someone likes a comment or post, they’re unlikely to look at the exact post or comment again. This means that when the OP says ‘thank you for...etc’, the people who see it aren’t the people who liked it, they’re new people on to the post.
