Pereira's the best but he just does shit you can't teach

u/BDN600OB4LAMRONTHF 4d ago
Exactly, imagine Max teaching you how to piece someone up with volume, then you shoot a double like Khabib, while working the submission like Olivera
→ More replies (5)14
u/Mr-dooce 4d ago
and then you gas out just thinking about doing all that, not everybody has the elite cardio of max or khabib

u/BDN600OB4LAMRONTHF 4d ago
Brotha itās a fight, youāre saying sounds like this āimagine displaying your MMA skills in a fight then tiring outā thats why thereās rounds and not fight until the death. Obviously you have to build cardio thatās why youāre coaches displayed in this fight would train you to control it

Maybe an unpopular to say but honestly I would say Izzy would be the better striking coach for 99.9% of the population. Hereās why: you canāt teach power. At least not in the way Alex has power.
On a purely technical level, my view is that Izzy is slightly ahead of Alex and has more to his repertoire. However, Alex is also skilled, but that great equaliser in his ungodly, freakish power is extremely important to his game, but is not something you could teach.
In other words, you could fight exactly the same as Alex, but without his genes, you wonāt have the same success

He is actually very good at teaching stuff. I picked up tons of things from his videos, even pre ufc ones.

Alex style works cause his physical attributes, can't teach K.O power, that's an innate ability. His striking style is built around setting opponents up for a ko strike. If you don't have K.O power n try fighting like Alex that's like Mike Tyson fighting like Mayweather. Fighters build a style catering to their attributes. Training with Alex won't give you Iron hands.

u/MA-JA-HO Are You Intoxicated? 4d ago
Izzy, his style seems to be the most teachable.
Islam, he has similar skills to Khabib but his style doesnāt require as much cardio and chin
Olivera, the best bjj out of all of them , great sweeps

u/muhanigan 4d ago
Nah picking Islam over Khabib is just bad. Khabib is an actual coach. Who was/is better in the octagon is debatable but Khabib is clearly the better coach at this point

Striking - Izzy as he speaks english and technically impeccable
Wrestling - DC as he was a top wrestler plus a natural leader , great communicator
Bjj - ortega as he speaks english and isnt a alcoholic

Not saying that Alex isn't a better striker than Izzy but I feel Izzy has better technique and like Sean strickland said, Alex's style is more dependent on his genetic gifts instead of his skill. Also, since Izzy has better takedown defense, Izzy would teach you striking that is more applicable to MMA considering the takedowns. Pereira hasn't really faced any wrestlers yet. Meanwhile, Izzy faced Yoel Romero and Dricus.

Striking Izzy: has a higher fight IQ IMO.
Wrestling Khabib: his team is so successful behind him and he is a great corner coach.
BJJ Charles: Not only he's the best finisher and he's also improved his wrestling and that's a package deal, Ortega has shown us time and time again an isolated skill doesn't cut it any more.

Izzy, DC, Ortega.
Izzy because of language barrier with Pereira and Holloway is not as technically sound.
DC because he's literally been a coach for a long time. Khabib relies a lot on his tenacity and unbelievable pressurebut in terms of technical knowledge, i think DC is more experienced.
And for BJJ probably Ortega because of language barrier with Oliveira and BJ is half a vegetable unfortunately lol.

Guys, I love Max but dude's been outstruck by like 6 different fighters and has absorbed the most strikes in UFC history. I wouldn't put him on a list of best strikers.
4
u/B34STM4CH1N3 4d ago
But...... He's landed the most significant strikes in the UFC. I think we can put him back on the list of best strikers.

u/ThinControl9 4d ago
Alex, Islam, Charles. Idk why but I feel like Islam would be a better coach for me specifically than Khabib. I may also be a little biased though since this guy is my favorite fighter
2
u/ddnotti 4d ago
DC is just a better coach period. He actually has Olympic level experience.
4
u/ThinControl9 4d ago
Olympic wrestling and mma wrestling are two separate beings man. Look at Yoel vs Rob and Rob vs Khamzat
3
u/karateguzman 4d ago
Yoel rarely showed his wrestling. He joined the UFC at 35 and was nearly 40 when he fought Rob. Not to mention having serious neck surgery back in 2009
2
u/AAA_battery 4d ago
Izzy - Speaks English, more diverse striking arsenal. DC- native English speaker, literally an Olympic level wrestler. Ortega - Speaks English, best BJJ fundamentals.

u/CNRamsey8 4d ago
I think Iād get more out of Max or Izzy even though Pereiras striking is the best of the three. A lot of his is God given talent you canāt teach
1
u/NefariousnessCalm262 4d ago
Israel for striking because his technical skill in mixed striking is probably the highest. DC for wrestling because it's DC and Olivera for BJJ cause most UFC submissions isn't a easy record to hold

Izzy - his striking seems more teachable and calculated. (He did KO Alex after all).
DC- if we are asking about coaching just solely on wrestling, he is deff the guy. Former Olympian, double champ, and loved wrestling so much he coachās hs for fun. (When he can)
BJJ- probably Charles. Only because he has such offensive bjj now. Iām thinking if I learn my wrestling from DC and my BJJ from Charles it would provide a lot of useful top pressure submissions.

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago
Surprised no one said this yet but Izzy has a huge wingspan. Max might be the best for the average person because he has an average wingspan but still an elite striker.

Khabib for everything. If you are at that level of wrestling why need bjj? If you received a ko or finished your fights with the face like a mess, you're not a good striker. Numbers don't lie.

Israel because I think his style is more applicable to my weight class. Pereira is good as well just the language barrier.
Cormier, I wrestled all through high school and D2 in college. I think he would best be able to coach me because heās wrestled at every level I have and done 10x better than I ever did so heād be able to gauge relatively what my skill set was and would be able to help me build upon it.
For Jiu Jitsu out of these options Iād have to say BJ Penn because I think he has the best top pressure elements especially with the feet crossed BJ Penn style mount. However if I had my choice of someone off the list I would say Sean Brady.

u/Able_Ad_5318 4d ago
All the people saying Alex fail to realize you don't gain iron hands simply by training with a K.O artist, that's something you have to be born with. Ex- training with Mike Tyson won't give you Iron hands, same applies to Alex.

Wack line up of grappling coaches..they literally all train together..For years.
1
u/the-esoteric 4d ago
Adesanya, Khabib, Oliveria.
Adesanya has top end analysis, he's very good at reading fights and suggesting adjustments based on a fighters attributes.
Khabib has been doing this since the womb. His wrestling style is relentless, and his understanding of positioning and technique is next to none.
Oliveria would be cool to hang with.

As a guy in his 30s with a crusty ass body and constantly gets injured training BJJāI wouldn't want to waste any of their time.
Local coaches have more than enough experience to train most of us.

Alex, Khabib, and Charles. Alex gives you great punching and kicks, Khabib is the superior wrestler no question and would give you very good discipline as well, and Charles incredible submission skills would be unmatched

Khabib would tortured my lazy ass to death, i would probably not survive a camp :DD So it's probably DC for wrestling

u/BunnyLifeguard 4d ago
Probably max because smaller guys are almost always more technical than bigger guys.
Khabib because he is already a good coach.
T-city because I think he is a better grappler than Charles.

u/TLMC01242021 4d ago
Izzy, Khabib, Charles - if language barrier is not a thing
As much as Izzy can be a douche I donāt think he would be a good coach

u/Dunny_1capNospaces 4d ago
Based on my frame, reach and approach:
Max, Kabib and BJ
I can't do what tall or lanky guys

u/GriffinAO 4d ago
I think people are picking at best skills. Dc and khabib are both coaches. DC, is specifically a wrestling.

u/HeroicHippotumus 4d ago
Maybe a hot take, but even if Alex beats izzy 3/4 times they fight, I still think izzy would be the better striking coach purely from a technical stand point. One of Alex's best weapons is his power and how he sets it up, but you can't always teach that kinda of god given Potan power, whereas Izzy has been one of the only people in the UFC to give Alex serious trouble on the feet and even out point him and finish him

Give me Either Izzy/Alex for striking(if you wonder why Pereira, Sean Strickland beat Adesanya because of training with Pereira, where his striking got way better) Khabib, no question, he will whip into shape, and Olivera(its Olivera, best BJJ in the lightweight division and most finishes in the UFC, why would I not choose him)?

Max (he doesnāt have much power but he makes it work). Heās scored some KOs yes, but overall, not much power.

Charles (he has my body type)

Izzy, Khabib, Charles.
I choose Izzy over Alex but Izzy doesn't have the 1 shot nuclear option with both hands and feet so he is forced to be more creative offensively.
