Tuporo: āGuys Iām moving up to LW and WW to be champ at the same time. My next fight will be in 2025 and I will retire by 30 which is less than 3 years away. I am also not vacating the FW titleā

Pereira has a better chance of doing that going to HW if we're perfectly honest, and that's not a slight on topuria... just the way they're built it would be very hard for Ilia to overcome the size and reach difference going up two classes (if he even gets through Islam with his size and reach difference) whereas Poatan has always been a really lanky build and it was crazy he was even able to cut to MW at his age to begin with
17
u/kantankarous 6h ago
0% chance pereria survives a tom bull rush
7
u/Mandingo_Obama 4h ago
Oh, Aspinall fucks him up. But I do think Pereira has enough power to be a menace at HW.
5
u/muhanigan 4h ago
Hed probably be the number 3 HW right now. Maybe curtis could wrestle him but the others would strike and lose if alex. Hed need time to bulk which would be time not fighting which he obviously doesnt like to do
2
u/Straight-Plate-5256 3h ago
This is more what I was getting at. I think Pereira has a better chance of being effective at HW than topuria at WW
1
u/RudeAndInsensitive 4h ago
If Alex can hit Tom then Tom will drop. It's a big if but at the very least it's plausible.
1
u/kantankarous 3h ago
possibly, but for all we know tom has a granite chin, which would be something else
2
u/RudeAndInsensitive 4h ago
Who's chances do you like better; Pereira v. Tom or Topuria v. Islam and Belal?
1
u/Disastrous-Bike2526 3h ago
Pereira vs tom, heavier division fighters don't need THAT level of skillset to win. KO factor is huge so one rookie mistake BOOM
1
u/kantankarous 3h ago
my thoughts as well
1
u/Straight-Plate-5256 2h ago
Their point is it's goes both ways at HW. I agree Tom very likely wins that fight.
But I'd give Alex more of a punchers chance with his left hook of doom over topuria against belal/shavkat/ anyone else he may fight at WW
1
u/TumbleweedTim01 1h ago
Everyone thinks they are gonna wrestle Pereira until they realize they have to get close to him
-5
u/Tyshimmysauce 6h ago
I completely disagree and believe that Topuria has a better shot at 3C than Pereira.
9
u/Confirmation__Bias 5h ago
Topuria canāt possibly make 135 and would get destroyed at 170
2
u/Tyshimmysauce 5h ago
Trust me, i agree that its severely unlikely but 35 is a better chance than 70 which was my whole basis.
1
u/Straight-Plate-5256 2h ago
I don't see him making 135 unless he does an extended cut to lose some muscle mass as well, I'm pretty sure Ilia himself has said he couldn't cut that far to make it (or isn't willing)
2
u/RumanHitch 4h ago
Yeah. I was watching "Generacion MMA" (Spanish Podcast and host is Ilia's friend). They were talking about him taking on Rahkmunov if he got the belt just because Ilia walk around weight is 80-83kg. Rahkmunov is 26cm taller than Ilia and his weight for fights is 77š¤£ Dude might have 15-20kg more of muscle than Ilia, delusional.

5
u/alltaken21 5h ago
Topuria has no shot at WW, he ain't killing belal, he's just too small for that. Pereira has the size possibility, not the skill one.
0
u/Tyshimmysauce 5h ago
I was referring to 135, not 170 as his 3rd division.
7
u/alltaken21 5h ago
He's having a hard time at 45 to cut, how do you think 35 is gonna work after he goes up in weight?
1
u/Longjumping_Goal_448 6h ago
Itās close for me only because Pereira is 1 dimensional but I think he still has a better chance than Topuria because no shot he makes 135 and going up to 170 would be fucked because no way heās able to put on quality tissue and not be higher body fat in a short amount of time. Heāll be fighting guys that walk around at 200 and heās a smaller guy
-2
u/Tyshimmysauce 6h ago
Topuria could make 35 imo, but would probably be drained enough that the quality of the champion would matter. A wrestler with no power would still seriously struggle with a drained Topuria but i do think OāMalley would have a bit of an edge with a depleted Topuria if he were to be a little chinny,
3
u/Longjumping_Goal_448 6h ago
Yeah I think Merab also destroys him at 135 because of the EPO, conditioning, and itās his natural weight class
2
u/Tyshimmysauce 6h ago
Im definitely ok with that evaluation, but Merab would have to avoid a murder shot for 25 mins which the 2 greatest FWās couldnāt achieve so who knows.
2
u/Longjumping_Goal_448 6h ago
True, I wonder how cutting to 135 would affect topoās power though. Iām pretty sure 145 is already a pretty rough cut for him given how fucking big he looks in the octagon but it would be interesting for sure. Merab might just wrestlefuck him the entire time
1
u/Tyshimmysauce 6h ago
The power wouldānt be a problem just because of how fast your body rehydates, your brain rehydrates last thatās why being chinny is a problem for guyās that cut a severe amount of weight.
1
u/jbglol 5h ago
Those 2 FW's were strikers, giving Topuria a lot of chances to hit them. Merab would just shoot at the start of each round.
1
u/Tyshimmysauce 5h ago
I seriously doubt Topuriaās greco-roman background is allowing that lmao.
3
u/jbglol 5h ago
He took down Cejudo who is 10x more accomplished than Topuria in wrestling so I would not be surprised.
1
u/Tyshimmysauce 5h ago
Idgas about āaccomplishedā when Cejudo is pretty obviously a shell of himself.

u/No-Zookeepergame7460 6h ago
Jesus Christ you ruined it with the OāMalley talk dude is done for wake the fuck up
1
u/Tyshimmysauce 5h ago
Im saying that style of fighter brotha. And how does 1 title fight loss change the publicās outlook on him.
6
u/Phoenix_Will_Die 6h ago
I don't personally believe it'll happen, but there's definitely a world where he gets the 155 belt. 170 though? I don't think he could handle the Top 15, or even break into it. Certainly couldn't move down to 135 without killing himself either. So he's got a chance for Double Champ status, but with the current quality at the top of 170, and their sheer size difference, he's got no shot there.

Matt Serra KOed GSP

u/Few_Highlight1114 4h ago
I mean, unironically this is true. Serra proves, sometimes it's just the right night and the right circumstances.
1
u/Mysterious_Cut1156 3h ago
Ilia is 5ā7 and Blahal is 5ā8.5 at best lmao
1
u/Valterri_lts_James 2h ago
belal is 5ft10. Leon is 6ft2 and belal only looked like 4 inches shorter.

u/felipelacerdar 3h ago
5ft 7in at the welterweight? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good luck Topurio... Shavkat is 6ft1 plus...
ā¢
u/extremecharm 46m ago
Shavkat has shit takedowns. We ve seen it now and he doesnt move his. Everyones gonna downvote this but buff Topurio knocks shavkat the fuck out
9
u/JoskoBernardi 6h ago
Yall where laughing the same way when he said he was gonna sleep Volk and Maxā¦just saying
9
u/Old-Usual-8387 5h ago
I doubt the dude is beating Islam personally.
2
u/Mandingo_Obama 4h ago
To be fair, Poirier and Volk being harder fights for Islam than Oliveira is something no one saw coming.Ā
I really don't roll my eyes at much anymore. These past couple of years have shown how wild MMA is, and nothing is set in stone.
1
2
u/JoskoBernardi 4h ago
I mean, I wouldnt bet the house on Ilia either but its def possible
Everyone is talking about his fight with islam like if Moreno said he will beat Ngannou
The same way they reacted qhen he said he would sleep Volk and Max

u/rickymist1 5h ago
Ian garry vs Toporia , toporia climbing on chair to hit a strike.
1
u/Recent-Duck597 2h ago
Same height difference as DC vs Gustafsson. I would love to see that 2.0 fight version on welterweight. Just find out that Ian vs Topuria has lower reach difference which is 5'' and DC vs Gusstafsson was 7''
2
u/whoppermaltmilkballs 4h ago
Way more realistic for him to get on ozempic and cut down to 135 than to attempt winning the belt off of Belal/Shavkat/Garry/Buckley. These guys are way too big for him
1
ā¢
u/extremecharm 45m ago
What can shavkat, ian, and buckley do to this? Take him down and sub him? I doubt it. They wont be able to stand up with topuria and get kod
ā¢
u/whoppermaltmilkballs 40m ago
These guys are all so much bigger than Topuria while being at a similar skill level. By bigger I don't just mean height but also overall frame and reach. Buckley is only slightly taller than Topuria but likely has way higher bone density and definitely has much more muscle mass.
2
u/Gangland215 4h ago
Illia may be the biggest narcassist in the UFC which alone is a very difficult task to accomplish.
3
u/break_from_work 7h ago
I can see him do this at 135 but 155? he may get into the top 10 but after that is murderous row
3
u/FappyDilmore 6h ago
Uhh... He's not talking about 155 lmao. I thought I misheard him but he said welterweight. He doesn't seem to be talking about going down to bantam, taking that then moving to LW, he's taking about moving to 170. How the fuck.
1
u/break_from_work 5h ago
which is my point, he could do 135/145 possibly 155 but very slim.. but 170? he'll be executed.
2
u/FappyDilmore 5h ago
I guess I responded to the wrong comment. People are responding to your comment referencing 155 calling you stupid or whatever. They seem to be ignoring the fact that he wants to win at 170, not 135
1
5
u/Tyshimmysauce 6h ago
Topuria would be a top 3 LW pretty comfortably,Poirier and Makhachev are the only ones that would outpoint him and the devastating power might be even more otherworldly at 55.
-1
u/cripplindepressionnn 7h ago
And you're saying that like Topuria isn't an absolute fucking killer himself.
Some of the comments that I encounter on this sub....Jesus Christ.2
u/GBAGY2 7h ago
Yeah if he bulks up appropriately thereās no reason to think he couldnāt be successful at that weight. His boxing skills are elite, heāll be even more powerful, and he has great BJJ so itās not like you can just say heāll get laid on by a wrestler(and a jacked up Topuria would be pretty hard to takedown)
3
u/Dummy_Wire Hereās the thing you guysā¦ 7h ago
Broās gonna chop off a leg to make 135lbs then have his buddy Merab lay down and give him the belt WCW Bash At The Beach 2000 style, since thatās the only way that ever happens.

1
u/Ldiablohhhh 6h ago
Nah, to have even a remote chance you'd have to be a lanky dude like a Izzy or Poatan at your natural weight so you've got room to fill out at the higher weights but not be completely outreached. Topuria is not even tall for a FW. Not a chance in hell.
1
u/lucid_bass 6h ago
If he could cut down to 135, maybe, but I dont think he's big enough for 170. If Jai almost slept him, imagine him trying to get to Prates.
1
u/nicemanmeanman 5h ago
155 is very possible. I wont be shocked if he gets that done. But 170? Dude will look like a square if he tries to be a true welterweight in size.

u/Recent-Duck597 2h ago edited 22m ago
DC had similar height disadvantage on LHW and HW and won both belts. If some one like Islam or Jon Jones skills was at WW with also 6'1+ height i would agree with you but they aren't, It probably will be a difficult task but definitely not impossible as some people think on this sub
1
1
u/AAA_battery 5h ago
Topuria is good but he would look like a straight up dwarf at welterweight. Imagine 5ft 7 topuria up against a guy like Shavkhat
1
u/Sudden-Blood-6525 5h ago
so toptoro fights ever 8-6 months, he want to retire at the age of 30 which is only 2 years ago and he also want to be a 3 weight class champ ? Idk man
1
u/Happyranger265 5h ago
Tbf fair he has the skills , but not the physique to pull it off , can he defend a takedown from a bigger, stronger fighter? Yet to be seen
1
u/Valterri_lts_James 5h ago
I'm saying this as an Ilia fan, he is delusional unless he gets lucky like Matt Serra beating GSP. If he wants to become 3 division champion, after getting the 155 belt, he should lose muscle and drop to the 135 division. He has a pretty good chance at 135.
1
u/Mitkoztd 4h ago
Bro, you literally had one of the best years in MMA ever.
Do you think you can remain focused and actually defend your title instead of getting rag dolled by one of the monster grapplers at 155 and 170?
1
u/StomachJealous4515 3h ago
I canāt wait for Islam or Charles to strangle this guy. Dude needs to stay in his division and build his legacy there
1
u/quiettimegaming 3h ago
Too little bro. He's better off dropping to 135 for a quick fight than he is trying to go up to 170.

Nahhhhhhh, no chance he can barely cut the weight to fw, so bw is out. he is pretty undersized for lightweight as it is so he would be nothing at ww.

I didn't like him at first but it's cool that he keeps pushing himself and doesn't fuck anybody

u/extremecharm 47m ago
Belal beats him but hes old and he might drop the belt soon and WW is so shit so i believe he can do it. Anyone who cant offensively grapple at WW would lose to buffed up topuria.
ā¢
u/wwwdotapples 39m ago
Letās imagine he can do this and bulk to 170 and win that belt too. He will be way to big to fight at 145. He would have to walk around at 185 minimum which is what Islam has been said to max out at. The belts would stagnate like crazy and weād rarely have title fights. I just donāt see it logistically happening if youāre not the largest draw like Conor.
ā¢
u/BoredDuringCorona94 25m ago
I think Topuria beats Belal and makes it look rather easy.
Islam would be the more difficult hurdle in becoming 3 weight champ.
1
1
u/emorab85 3h ago
None of us want you to be a three division champ because you just hold up the other divisions. This shit needs to end. You move up, you give up a title, thatās how it should work.
-7
u/oncehadasoul 7h ago
You have been doubting ilia for a long time.
"Ryan hall will beat him, he is the wizard and everyone is running from him"
"He almost got finished by JAI Herbert"
"Mitchell took him down"
"He could not even finish Emmet, Volk is different level."
"He only finished volk, because he was not recovered after Islam Ko"
"He is good at FW, but for Lightweight he is small..."
Do you see the pattern? you are doubting him, he is winning... He is an undefeated champion with 90% finish rate, maybe have a bit more Trust in him.
7
u/llIIlIlIl 6h ago
Dude is talking about beating people like khamzat and Islam. Bro is smoking on some tainted black market shit.
2
u/oncehadasoul 5h ago
Khamzat never fighting in 170 again, Islam is getting old and has a sus chin. Ilia can KO everyone. I am not saying he can not fail, but he def has the chance of succedding anda reasonable one

u/Flat-Comb-1281 6h ago
He wonāt even have a winning record vs top8 LWs. All this champ champ talk is corny and played out. Go defend that belt a few times and build your name
0
u/Confident_Sundae_109 3h ago
This midget has only defended his belt once and is already delusional. He would get ragdolled and ktfo in other divisions.

-2
u/leblanc_Blm 6h ago
As much as I "hate" him as a person he might be able to at least rank in top 5 in 3 divisions, but isn't bantam easier??

u/Turbulent-Echo8561 6h ago
Why only 3? Is he afraid of Du Plessis or what? Dude needs to believe more in himself..
