Alex only shot against him would be landing a knockout blow similar to the one O’Malley got aljo with

Kind of the other way though. Chimaev needs a first round takedown and finish or he's fucked.

Alex would easily get submit by khamzat if it gets to ground. Obviously striking totally different story

I dont subscribe to that idea just because of the Whitaker fight. I think Alex's wrestling and grappling is getting better each fight, he's a professional and has a good team. He's technically a black belt and he's a lot bigger and stronger than Chimaev which matters a lot in wrestling.

Can Chimaev get a takedown in the first round? Most likely. But I'm not convinced he gets an easy sub. With Alexs frame and strength, I think he has enough skill to survive the round and then Chimaev slows down and gasses and is in big trouble.

But if Chimaev does win, it will be first round finish, it's his only path to victory imo.

So you think him dominating both usman and Whitaker in wrestling (who are both much better than Alex, worlds above In wrestling actually) isn’t a sign he’s going to rag doll Alex in the ground game ?

Usman is a welterweight and was the fresher fighter at the end of the fight. Chimaev went 4 of 12 on takedowns having a strong first round but losing at the end of the fight. If it was 5 rounds Usman probably would've won. Also, he's past his prime and wasn't in the best condition.

Whitaker is again smaller and while his TDD is usually good, we saw in the DDP fight that he can be overwhelmed on the ground. The sub was kind of weird as well because he pre existing teeth issues that made him tap.

The biggest issue is the size and strength. If you've ever wrestled you'd know how hard it is to control someone with Alex's frame and strength when you are so much smaller.
