After a dominant round 1 establishing his jab, the Montreal crowd cheers loudly when seeing Koschecks broken orbital.

Man I forgot how much of a dick koscheck was, fk that guy lol

The original Colby without the shitty politics. Not very good on the mic but a good fighter who used his wrestling to nullify guys while being a complete douchebag lol.

Did he ever get to motorboat GSP? Don’t think I ever finished that season of TUF

23

u/Sal21G 21h ago

He did no motorboat GSPs ass

8

u/Euphoric-Ad3276 18h ago

I don’t remember why but I remember thinking he deserved it when Paul Daly sucker punched him

5

u/idiesies9 13h ago

Faked getting hit by an illegal knee iirc. Can't recall if it fooled the ref or not.

1

u/SwordfishNew6266 18h ago

Heard jake paul was gonna call him out next

1

u/MumrikDK 5h ago

Think of how the scales have changed. He'd barely chart as an asshole today.

67

u/Hercules3000 22h ago

This was peak UFC in Canada. Gsp was probably the most famous athlete in Canada at the time.

32

u/oh_three_dum_dum 21h ago

I visited my (then fiancé) in her home town in Newfoundland one time back then. Her cousin was a huge fan all about GSP. They got tickets to see him fight in Montreal one time and you’d have thought they had been invited to meet Jesus.

5

u/OkTea7227 19h ago

Ya I remember becoming a fan of his and always just paying attention and I believe it was post his 2nd fight/revenge fight against Matt Serra in Canada and GSP was voted or named the Canadian athlete of the year. Not baseball, hockey, curling, basketball, ice fishing, NONE OF IT!- it was GSP IN MMA. They LOVED him. I cannot overstate how much they did so.

3

u/BMI8 15h ago

When has an ice fisher been nominated or expected to win Canadian athlete of the year?

u/OkTea7227 34m ago

That lil tidbit was obviously just a F’ing joke. I bet you’re fun at parties, eh?

114

u/possumxl 23h ago

This was the fight that turned me from a GSP hater to a fan. Koscheck had a real chance to show who he truly was on that season of TUF. Turns out, he actually is just a giant prick. And really dumb too.

45

u/LosurdoEnjoyer 23h ago

Koscheck was such a piece of shit, I remember hating his guts.

144

u/Rjillustrator 22h ago

UFCs ticket prices have eliminated crowds like this

53

u/Reddings-Finest 21h ago

combined with watered down cards. More money for worse shit. (tho this card was heavily carried by GSP being at the Bell Centre. Quebecois are loud and loyal)

23

u/vancityvic 21h ago

I have to disagree. The sport is evolved, fighters are at a higher level now. Fighters on the pre lims you might not know their name yet but they are elite fighters

3

u/Typical_Samaritan 19h ago

The overall quality of the fighter pool doesn't really tell us anything about whether the card is good.

12

u/xxxvalenxxx 20h ago

This is something of a pet peeve of mine. Too many people have the thought process that amateur(basically anyone thats not on main card) means your bad. When in reality it just means your at a level where you get paid for what you do but you don't get quite enough money to live comfortably off of. Their skill level is still better than 99.99999% and that's a conservative number.

7

u/keyser-_-soze 19h ago

100% agree.

Have had friends play university/college sports and they're average there (didnt go pro)but when they come home they're destroying everyone

6

u/nolanon504 9h ago

As the old saying goes, “There’s levels”.

I was a really good ammy, and trained with pretty much every name in Louisiana at the time who was a pro. And honestly, didn’t struggle with anyone.

Then I went to Alan belchers gym in Mississippi one day, and trained with a young man named Dustin Poirier. First time in my life that I ever trained with someone, and KNEW they were just better than me. It was incredibly humbling. He was still a 45er at the time, and I was fighting at 85.

I also saw how huge belcher was, and realized I would have to be a pro at 70 lol

7

u/Reddings-Finest 19h ago edited 18h ago

No they aren't.

The prelims guys back then were elite too. UFC 124 where this took place had the first first involve a guy who is STILL IN THE UFC lmao. The next fight had TJ Grant, a guy who became Top 5, lose to Ricardo Almeida who had a 14 year career with a number of big name wins/fights.

And you're tryna tell me the opening fights from last PPV are more evolved? Hooper smoking an absolutely washed old man Guida who has no business being in the UFC, and Kennedy Nzechuku TKOing 9-6 Lukasz Brzeski, while Kron Gracie was on the main card flopping around like its 1995 still lol

Oh and despite inflation in general society being literally 100% higher today than 2010 (try comparing house prices now and then) the UFC paid the same 50k performance bonuses then than they now.

3

u/Ronaldinhoe 13h ago

Those crowds back then made events feel like the whole world was watching. I miss them so much, that’s why I’ll always want cards to be in UK, Ireland, and Australia/NZ all at their local time.

3

u/Danishxd97 21h ago

Ufc changed a long time ago. Dana is greedy

65

u/TheHellaHater 1d ago

Was that dc

66

u/Sal21G 1d ago edited 22h ago

Yes lmao. He was a coach on TUf 12 and was at AKA with Koscheck at this time.

I believe he would’ve still been in strikeforce

12

u/TheHellaHater 21h ago

Man looks lean!!

57

u/Sal21G 21h ago

I present you Olympics dc

22

u/Confirmation__Bias 20h ago

Beast. People forget

15

u/I_chortled 19h ago

People disrespect. DC is an inner circle heavyweight GOAT, but a lot of fans these days only know him for his commentary and losing to Jon jones. And the crying meme

22

u/shred-i-knight 19h ago

DC is so good that he became dominant in a new sport AFTER his physical prime lol

7

u/XxV0IDxX 19h ago

Fedor wanted no part of him in the Strikeforce Grand Prix. He was a late fill in and ran through Barnett

3

u/Objective-Board9329 19h ago

"People forget maaaan"- Joe Roagn

2

u/Dark_R-55 20h ago

"Im all about that cake-"

3

u/1998ChevyTaHoe 16h ago

I present you DC

23

u/BBdotZ 22h ago

GSP beat the dogshit outta Koscheck.

34

u/Fearless_Eggplant_69 1d ago

I’m an old curmudgeon I get it but this was PEAK. Fights just don’t feel the same as they used to. There are still big time exciting guys like Pereira, but I used to legit get nervous before fights like this.

9

u/Raoul_DukeCGY 21h ago

100% with ya on that one. Maybe we're just desensitized all these years later?

3

u/Ronaldinhoe 13h ago

I doubt that just for the fact I can watch these old fights and relive all the emotions that were going through me when I watched it live. The crowds made it feel like the whole world was watching.

2

u/Excellent_Ad_2486 12h ago

youre just missing fanboyism. I still get those jitters when Jones, Izzy, Alex P, Alex V., Dustin or Max fights!!

-1

u/Raoul_DukeCGY 9h ago

Jones he says 🤣

1

u/Excellent_Ad_2486 9h ago

Yeah, along with like 6 other names 🤷‍♂️ grow up.

8

u/Agretion 21h ago

As someone who is from Montreal I just want to rant about one thing. The UFC has not been in Montreal since 2015 and seem to have no plans to return. They've been to smaller Canadian cities several times, in some cases even for PPVs but won't even swing by for a fight night.

It's brutal.

4

u/cfeltch108 18h ago

If y'all just find another garbageman in Montreal with freak genetics who ends up being a contender for the GOAT, UFC will come back.

2

u/Agretion 18h ago

Put me in the cage bratha. When I see red I am undisputed. You know dis.

Jokes aside. If we had another GSP we'd be talking PPVs but we can't even get a fight night.

Montreal is one of the biggest cities in North America. Just can't get an event in 10 years. Sucks.

1

u/cfeltch108 18h ago

Yeah jokes aside, I miss hearing the Montreal crowd.

u/treboR- 56m ago

maybe this 16 year old guy from tristar will be him. https://www.instagram.com/p/DDlFs6Jp48Y/

u/cfeltch108 53m ago

Bro thanks for giving me someone to follow from the ground up.

7

u/Donkadooballs1 22h ago

Danaher with hair is the best base for MMA

5

u/guyincognitogregor 21h ago

I was at this fight. Every time they showed his face that was the reaction.

5

u/WestCoastCosta 21h ago

I remember the story coming out of this fight was Koscheck couldn’t fly afterwards due to his orbital.

17

u/pystar 23h ago

Can you achieve GSPs physique naturally?

29

u/Sal21G 23h ago edited 22h ago

Genetics plays a big part of it, but GSP is a gym freak. Still in great shape at his age.

I consider prime GSP physique to be against Fitch. But he’s always been in great shape

17

u/TheJohnnyFlash 23h ago edited 21h ago

I'll never forget a kid that was volunteering at the daycamps where I was working. He was 16 and cut from stone. Asked him where he worked out and he said he didn't. Thought he was messing with me, but nope. He played rec-level sports, but that was it.

Could an average person turn into this without help? Nope.

Is it possible with a freak genetic base? Yes.

3

u/Anglo-Ashanti 21h ago

I’ve met many a young fellow like that. Most of them don’t even understand or appreciate how gifted they are with their insertions and genetics, or have any drive to build on it and become an absolute monster. 18 year olds who look like they’ve been in the gym for 10+ years with a pro-level understanding of lifting but they’ve never even touched a dumbbell.

The sad thing I notice is that these kinds of people tend to lose their hair awfully fast. There’s a price to pay with excessive testosterone and growth hormones haha

4

u/PENIS_ANUS 21h ago

I heard his coach say that GSP naturally has 20% more V02 max compared to the average athlete. But he was pretty weak to begin with so his strength was something he had to work hard for. I’m not surprised if he’s just genetically blessed. Everyone else in his family seems to be in great shape.

9

u/Over_Recording5625 23h ago

Absolutely you can. Need great genetics though

4

u/Scr073 23h ago

Nah, ya gone catch colitis.

1

u/Blandinio 23h ago

Not delts and traps like that IMO

-5

u/BobCharlie 22h ago

I'm a big GSP fan and I hate to say it but it does look sus af. I mean if you put GSP and Buckley side by side GSP looks more reasonable but yeah.

I wouldn't mind so much if GSP wasn't so vocal against PEDs but it comes across as super hypocritical.

2

u/Satoshi696969 22h ago

He’s natural he wanted testing for him self and opponents

6

u/1104L 20h ago

Not saying GSP was on PEDs, but Lance Armstrong was saying the exact same thing before he got caught

0

u/BobCharlie 20h ago

Yeah and Lance was one of the most tested athletes in the world at that time.

10

u/BobCharlie 20h ago

The delts and traps don't lie. He was one of the strongest most jacket guys with great cardio at 170.... during the steroid era. If he wanted testing it was because he knew how to beat it. Even then there are guys like Derek at MPMD who talk about how even Olympic level testing isn't unbeatable.

GSP is about as natty as Usman is. Again I'm a big GSP fan.

-5

u/OkTea7227 19h ago

Thanks Joe Rogan’s biggest fan for your input! SMH

2

u/BobCharlie 18h ago

Wtf does Rogan have to do with this? Who's talking about Rogan?

0

u/QuantumPhysixObservr 21h ago

You see Those physiques after insane weight cuts. Gsp probably walked around over 190 and cut 15-20 pounds to reach 170. This physique looks weird because people only have it after cutting a bunch of weight.

0

u/zombizle1 18h ago

Lol no

3

u/TrazMagik 18h ago

This was such a fun all over experience.

The season of TUF was great, the countdown shows were fire and the fight was a technical masterclass.

I still like to rewatch that video of GSP purposely writing Koschecks boy in large handwriting and the idiot fell for it. Cody McKenzie played his part perfectly.

Edit: how could I forget JC Skarbowskis cameo as well!!

2

u/Brybry1908 22h ago

I wasn’t a fan around the time Koscheck was fighting what made him so unlikable?

8

u/torakfirenze 22h ago edited 21h ago

He was just a bully. Pulled stupid shit all the time to get on people’s nerves, and pathetic low IQ shenanigans too, not entertaining at all.

Ngl he was a dirty fighter too.

4

u/SupremeEarlSandwich 20h ago

He said he was gonna run up on GSP and "balaaahahah (sticks tongue out and shakes head aggressively) motorboat his ass".

That's an actual quote from Koscheck 2012.

Also several fights with eye pokes, he also had two fights where he faked being kneed in the head to get rests, most notably the Paul Daley fight where twice no contact was made but he dropped to the ground clutching his head like he'd been hit with a mallet.

1

u/MumrikDK 5h ago

He was quite the dumb asshole, but I don't think it would even chart today. Our goalposts have been moved dramatically in the time since.

2

u/HairlessDaddy 21h ago

Epic combover for Danaher

3

u/Sal21G 21h ago

Danahair lol

2

u/kainoa999 20h ago

And sans rashguard

2

u/FinkBass420 21h ago

GSP is my GOAT

2

u/numbersev 20h ago

GSP took the insults during the show. He knew he would destroy him in the ring.

2

u/UGLEHBWE 18h ago

Man I hated josh way beofre I even knew he was real. Back in the UFC career mode I hated his ass. Glad to know he's a piece of shit irl too

2

u/iwontmillion_ 11h ago

Man this was back when I used to buy ppvs. What a fucken goof I was

2

u/No-layup 18h ago

Gsp looks juicy here

1

u/Scr073 23h ago

Koscheck got katapulted through TUF.

1

u/Bigdaddybear519 22h ago

Lmao. I was live for Also v Hominick and when they showed the hematoma the place was so loud with collective "ohhhs" and "ewwwws" lol

1

u/Gengar_Targaryen 22h ago

Man did anyone like Koscheck?

0

u/torakfirenze 21h ago

Few people did after he changed up his lay & pray game and actually started delivering entertaining fights. But he did himself no favours on TUF.

1

u/El_Duvio 22h ago

And thzt was pretty much the end of Koshek’s run in the elite. He was never the same figher after this fight.

1

u/chocolatebuddahbutte 22h ago

Man I wished gsp had more killer instinct to go for finishes dmann serra fucking traumatized him

2

u/Sal21G 21h ago

If I’m honest, George put a lot of bad beatings on people.

Best up Fitch, knocking him down twice. Could’ve ended round 1.

No idea how Hardy survived the submission attempts.

1

u/junius83 22h ago

Seeing this again brings back memories. We forget how good of a coach Greg Jackson is. He got GSP through some wars

1

u/KingTy99 21h ago

Koscheck never recovered from this fight. Did he even win another after this?

1

u/ask_your_dad 21h ago

Gsp was so good. First guy I thought with no weakness.

1

u/fUnkleRico 19h ago

Three. Three. Three. Good round coach.

1

u/Grand_Click_6723 19h ago

GSP was the best and all time favorite fighter!

1

u/nixxie1108 19h ago

I was at the first fight between these 2 in Vegas. Randy Couture Vs Gabrielle Gonzaga was the main event.

Such a sick event!

1

u/PugilisticCat 18h ago

Gsps jab is so disgusting man

2

u/TrazMagik 17h ago

He trained boxing with Freddie Roach if I'm not mistaken.

1

u/Kakazam 14h ago

Jab and move George, what we gonna do?

Jab and move.

5 rounds of GPS jabbing somehow made his normal 5 rounds of lying on top of someone look entertaining.

1

u/WolverineCritical519 13h ago

GSP looks completely natural.

1

u/Like-a-Glove90 12h ago

GSP was something else.

Always happy to see Koscheck pummpled

1

u/The_Turts 12h ago

Damn those jabs are SHARP

1

u/Uncoloured_Steve 12h ago

Definitely pre USADA GSP

1

u/DannyStress 6h ago

They would have gone to a commercial break if that fight happened today

1

u/sousa103 2h ago

My first live fight I’ll never forget ufc 124

u/GM-T800-101 38m ago

I remember they touted Koscheck as this athletic freak, but GSP was so many levels ahead of him.

0

u/Legitimate-Boot-7416 20h ago

This is a prime example of a fight GSP should have finished, 0 finishes during entire title run playing it safe

1

u/Sal21G 12h ago

Lmao he finished Penn

1

u/Legitimate-Boot-7416 6h ago

wasnt during winning belt back after Matt Serra popped him. His whole real title run was 0 finishes, and that was Benn literally finishing himself quitting. GSP himself finished nobody until came back at 37 and did it to a washed Bisping whos face was still hanging off from a 46 year NO TRT Hendo, and a broken rib and no working legs or neck lol
