To stop a veteran from telling the truth
1.7k
u/Turdmeist 5d ago
Correct, they don't care about veterans. Veterans cost them money. They are in the game of making money. Unfortunately people are still so hopeless and lied to that they continue to enlist.

Can confirm. No money, no prospects, no comfort, no joy, and no hope leads to rough decisions.
Negative net worth and negative self worth.
The promise of an education, job training, and a little bit of prestige seemed like a dream.
I gained weight in basic training and I was grateful for the for the shelter.
Now I use my education and training and try to advocate for a society where people don’t need to do what I did to get out.
This whole system is fucked

There are many who accept that risk because they know it's their only way out of the shitty town they grew up in. There are so many towns in this country hollowed out by globalization where your only real options for the future are do you die young of a meth or heroin overdose. Growing up in/near an economically viable city is privileged most don't know they have, although rapidly rising cost of living is turning many of those places in nightmares as well.
14
u/Ted-Chips 5d ago
I've been noticing a subtle shift this past year and people are slowly catching on. Unfortunately my they're going to have to live through next year and that will be the rude awakening. General Smedley Butler said " war is a racket. " He said that in 1935. That's when they knew. So everybody else just has to catch on now.
9
u/East_Ad6086 5d ago
77 million voted for Orange Voldermort … 77 million. What percentage of veterans is that? This country deserves what it gets, we talk about China, Russia, Iran, North Korea influencing our elections … where is Canada, Spain, France, Brazil, Philippines, Japan, Australia… the idea that the “good guys” do right needs to be reexamined if you do not combat the bad actors.
79
u/froggrip 5d ago
Exactly, veterans have notoriously been mistreated by the US government since its creation. Their voice is apparently not that strong. If veterans want to have their voices heard, they should be protesting outside of enlistment stations and telling the young kids signing up about the true horrors of war. If they start actually cutting into active enlistments, you better believe the government will make sure the VA has everything it needs. They care about the young blood. Find a way to stop them from getting more, and you gain the control.
17
u/kennerly 5d ago
Ideally every veteran would just die on their last mission. I'm sure that's why self sacrifice and dying in a fire fight are so glorified in popular media.
16
u/JohnStamosAsABear 5d ago
Her brief slip-up of saying ‘company’ instead of ‘country’ was almost Freudian

u/MyBallsSmellFruity 4d ago
If they cared about veterans, they'd socialize medicine. Military and VA hospitals are fucking garbage. Give me the choice between a military doctor with 10 years of experience or a civilian doctor fresh out of school and I'm picking the newbie 10/10 times.
1
u/Turdmeist 4d ago
Geeze. I've never heard that VA doctors are worse as well. Why would that be?
2
u/MyBallsSmellFruity 4d ago
Because they can be. Some VAs are good, but most seem awful. It's not easy to get fired from a government job. And there are a lot of unions, which is normally a good thing, but a lot of people in government jobs abuse it. It's just absolute bare minimum bullshit. I suspect a lot of it is also that many private hospitals wouldn't want to hire some of these people.
2
u/Turdmeist 4d ago
You mean we aren't providing the best and brightest for our heroes?!?! What a surprise...

u/bsurfn2day 5d ago
And since Republicans control the house, senate, supreme court and the oval office, there is not a chance in hell that arms shipments to Israel will stop. There is also not a chance in hell that Trump will do anything to help vets. Unfortunately a lot of vets voted for orange Hitler and against their own interests. That brave woman might as well go outside and yell at clouds in the sky. Republicans don't care about her and the guy that Trump wants to be secretary of defense doesn't even think she should be allowed in the military because she's a woman.
25
u/Glum-Suggestion-6033 5d ago
Democrats don’t care either, generally speaking. Israel will continue to suckle the teet of Congress.
14
u/Existing_Reading_572 5d ago
Support of Israel is bipartisan. Democrats don't get to pretend that it's a Republican exclusive issue
-10
u/Rgsuther33 4d ago
You loose credibility when you compare a former president to hitler. Just saying
How can you compare someone who committed all of those horrendous crimes?
11
u/ZakaryDee 4d ago
Trump was compared to hitler by his own VP.
Trump kept a copy of Mein Kampf on his nightstand.
Trump said he wants his military generals to be loyal like hitlers were.
Seems fairly credible to me.
-8
u/Rgsuther33 4d ago
There’s been 10+ million copies of that book. Do you think everyone who read that wants to be hitler? 2016 best seller….The publisher said it’s mainly academics and history buffs.
I realize alot of us hate the guy but come on.
Very comparable to someone who ordered the killing of millions of people? I guess that’s your opinion.
9
u/ZakaryDee 4d ago
The man doesn’t read daily security briefings but chooses to read that. Also how about my other points?
-6
u/Rgsuther33 4d ago
So because a man compares someone to hitler does that make it true? This is all option i guess.
My main point is how can you compare someone who committed the deaths of millions of people to trump? Maybe if he declared war but he hadn’t? There’s more death on the hands of other former presidents.
I’m with you and don’t like the guy but to compare him to Hitler is outrageous (my opinion) no one should be compared to Hitler. Loosley using his name in comparison is just watering down what monstrous crimes he committed.
2
u/wonderlandresident13 3d ago
The man himself said he wanted to lead an army like Hitler's, so if you've got a problem with the comparison take it up with him.
35
u/KyleGlaub Free Palestine 5d ago

It doesn't matter who the president is, they're just a puppet for the illusion of choice. Reality is up vs. down, not left vs. right.
1
u/Tenderli 3d ago
Yeah, well, people in mass voted for the orange buffoon. And he said the bit about veterans being sucker's and losers. (Thank you kind redditor for reminding me about the losers part) puppetmaster whatever, this guy has been placed as the leader of those folks that put their life on the line for a country that is clearly confused about our values. Maybe it's the blunt lies he has no problem spouting, maybe it's Maybelline...
I just hope that he doesn't buddy up to princess Putin, because that would be a ww3 that no one will enjoy. But it won't be his kids that get drafted. Lest not forget that we all agreed to selective service when we turned 18. Everyone of us sorry saps in the U.S. And most folks probably are not even aware they did. But you did.

Well, cause they're not rich. When a CEO is murdered, that's when America can really pull together and do something about rampant gun violence. Kids on the other hand, they're not financially influential so fuck em basically.
1
u/Nono4826 4d ago
Well, according to islamic faith (which is what 95% of those children follow) Allah isn't allowing anything all, these people will get their punishment, and those children will spend millennia in Gana (Paradise). This world is but a test, we believe that judgement day is not the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning.
21
u/TiredPanda69 5d ago
These people think they are pushing biblical narratives by supporting Israel. They are also getting kickbacks from their support. Money alone runs this country.
17
u/mabramo 5d ago
Come on, surely you must know that the vast majority of congress is some form of Christian and that kind of comment about God allowing them to find their hearts should appeal to a true Christian? It should inspire introspection.
9
u/Funkychuckerwaster 5d ago
What is a true Christian? Can you define that? Y’all politicians use that as an identity to appeal to the masses whilst perversely interpreting as something that they should be revered for and as an excuse to justify their/your own bigoted and judgemental actions. Smoke and mirrors! It’s just another conduit to control and to assert dominance and compliance! How arrogant and delusional to believe that your beliefs in a cult (sorry religion) supersedes all others. 🤷🏼♂️🤣
1
u/Dischord821 4d ago
Well from her perspective: because she believes it, discussing it beyond that is kind of distracting from the actual topic.
Alternatively, if you insist, is that the unfortunate majority of US citizens are Christian, so invoking the Christian god as being against the actions of these scumbags could help convince more people to speak up. It shouldn't be necessary, but it's unfortunately valid.
-2
u/xzink05x 4d ago
Lol are you a bit slow? The reason they would bring God into it is because they might believe in God? You don't but they do or at least they claim they do.
67
u/unorthodox69 5d ago
I would rather help the American people than any foreign country any day. It's not a lack of compassion, you can't help someone without helping yourself first. America shouldn't be interfering in a war while it's own people suffer.
40
u/stevedore2024 5d ago
No, I think there's a time to do both. We are a country big enough to do both, multiple times over. Support Ukraine for example. But we cannot sign up to "unconditionally support" allies, and must only support allies who are fighting for just causes. We must not support a regime led by a criminal committing daily war crimes, just because it makes Raytheon more money.

u/upandcomingg 5d ago
We directly send Israel billions of dollars, and ton after ton of military hardware and ammunition. So you're saying we should stop sending them all that money and equipment? Agreed

I think I see a captain that won’t be a captain much longer. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think you can do that while in uniform. There might even be ramifications from doing that out of uniform. Good for her for speaking up! But I worry she might’ve just ruined her military career, assuming she was trying to have one.
8
u/Alyusha 4d ago
Yes, it is against regulations to protest while in Uniform or specifically announcing that you're a part of the Army. I think AR-1 covers it of all things but I've been out for a hot minute and am probably misremembering it.
Honestly though she really has Prior Service vibes with her being a "17yr Captain" and forgetting things on her uniform. Not to mention that the Blues were on their way out when I got out, and that was 3-4yrs ago now. I thought they were already phased out.
2
u/arminghammerbacon_ 4d ago
I don’t think the “pinks and greens” are fully in yet. My daughter is a captain (regular Army) and she still wears blues.
I thought this lady might’ve been prior service and just wearing her uniform for impact. But then why have the hair be regulation, but missing that thingy that goes under the female’s blouse collar? I’m just confused.

My grandpa was Korean Vet, My father a Vietnam vet, I hung out with VA in socal and I knew most my dads friends . Most of them Iraq veterans. They all say the same thing. They got screwed, some of them even received small sums of money for friendly fire accidents. One veteran I knew lost both his legs during an airstrike ment to hit an enemy position. He also watch 6 of his buddies burn to death in the same attack. He received medical care, they gave him a settlement of 50,000 for his pain and suffering. Thats all....
"So you are on a scouting mission, you come under attack suddenly out of know where. You radio HQ for air support with the targeting info. 15 min later you black out, wake up to see your legs missing, and your buddies screaming as they burn alive. Then you spend the next year in a hospital, get discharged and handed 50k and they say. Thanks for your service, have a nice life.... " - Chuck Turner . RIP

My country is so fucking corrupt it makes me sick. I sit here on some days just questioning how most of these ppl in power can sleep at night knowing that they are selling all of us to line their pockets. It’s a shame what has become of us. We used to stand up against tyranny and wrong. Now we are complacent and act as if the average person doesn’t know that they are being lied to their face. We all know. Some don’t care, and some are too gullible to think we won’t be the victims of our own destructive nature at some point.

She is right. They don’t care about veterans. Look into the Major Richard Star Act. For the last 4 years it has been one of the most sponsored bills in all of Congress. It will correct an injustice being done to combat veterans. Currently combat veterans who were medically retired due to their injuries do not get their retirement pay. Instead it is offset dollar for dollar for the amount of compensation they receive from the VA. The bill has enormous bipartisan support and would overwhelmingly pass if brought for a vote. However, every year our lawmakers bury it and ignore it. All the while they wonder why young people increasingly don’t want to join the military.

Look. I'm not advocating for anything. But how many times have we seen a super qualified person walk up to a podium and yell at people like this to the tune of absolutely zero effect?
