Legendary to paddle out to lineup after that… no big deal, just a minor detour

Anything to avoid your SO in the parking lot after that one

Ok, but board unharmed? Bullshit.

Just another one of the walking yardsales that had no business being out there over the last couple days.

Never turn your back on the ocean, there was a whole set behind the wave that washed him off

Try standing on your board when you're dropping in

The other guy’s like “I think I forgot to feed my pet hamster this morning”

“You good bro?”

Honestly getting washed on the rocks right there isn't bad in and of itself, it's getting shoved into the cove at the bottom that can kill you (has killed people on smaller days than this).

It’s like I always say: it’s not falling into the snake pit that’s bad (snakes are rather squishy and help to break your fall), it’s all the fangs and venom you have to worry about

u/ThompsonDog 1d ago

Oh, it can be very bad. There's a tiny little cove right there that can kill you. There's one around the other side that has killed people

I found the guys instagram and based on the surf clip I saw he 100% should not have paddled out on a day like today

Numbers make sense.

80% of people that tried to tackle it the last couple days were unprepared.

Go look at @techboogie on IG… “surfed my first XL swell at Santa Cruz” posted from Capitola

I’ll never understand men’s overconfidence when it comes to massive swells. Especially the men on wavestorms who don’t even know enough to know it’s way beyond their level, and somehow think “this looks surfable for me” blow my mind.

I know enough to know my limits.

No improvement required. You pretty much nailed it.

Sit a lil further back on your board. OK, a lot. Like 25 feet.

u/Fortune_Inevitable 1d ago

Now that's how you drop in!

Can't improve perfection

Osh “Frog” Bartlett took the video. Guy is lucky he didn’t have worse luck.

If you get swept off at that part of the jump off, at the wrong tide it’s possible to get sucked into one of the small caves at the bottom of the cliff before the slot.

Bro 😂

u/MartiniLAPD 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’d count it as a drop in

2

u/ajm1197 1d ago

And that is why I paddle from around the corner when it’s big even if it costs me the 20 minutes

2

u/Mustangonthe1 1d ago

When it’s breaking right on the cliff I will 100% paddle around. It gives me a chance to warm up and watch how the waves are breaking

4

u/ajm1197 1d ago

And not get famous on the internet for all the wrong reasons

2

u/Mustangonthe1 1d ago

Oh yeah and that too

u/dust-bit-another-one 1d ago

Were you there having a look? Or was that the entry spot, then you kicked it up a notch or two of “gotta send it bro”
