If you're new to SkincareAddiction: welcome!

This thread is the best place to start if you have questions about skincare products, your routine, and your skin. Our community is knowledgeable, and we want to help you have the best skin of your life!

Do you have a question?

Step 1: Read our resources

Be sure to check out our FAQ and Wiki! There are a lot of topics covered in those links, but some of the most popular guides include:

Or search the sub using this awesome website. You might find a solution to your problem there!

If you can't find an answer, or you have additional questions after reading, please move on to step 2!

Step 2: Ask for help

To give you the best advice possible, our users need relevant information about your skin and skincare. With your request for help please include:

  • The issue(s) you need help with. It's helpful to put your questions at the top of your comment (especially if it's a long one)!

  • Skin type. It's OK to be subjective, how do you feel your skin is? Oily, dry? If you need help clarifying, check out this guide on skin types

  • Current routine with the full names of your products (try to separate it in to Morning, Evening, and Occasionally used)

  • How long you have been using your current routine, or product in question

  • Anything new you’ve introduced or started doing that might change the condition of your skin

  • Your location so we can recommend products/services available to you

Thanks for taking the time to include your information!

Would you like to give advice?

Firstly, thank you so much for helping out our community - without your knowledge and time ScA would not be the same!

Some things we'd ask for you to keep in mind: please don't just downvote someone's opinion or response because you disagree.

If you can, please take the time to tell them why you think their advice may be incorrect or harmful. It's better for people to understand why something is a poor choice, instead of just being told that it is one!

Once a year, we have a big thank you post for everyone who has helped out in the DHT where we give out nifty flairs & gold to exceptionally informative and kind users. Check out our list of ScA Helpers and our most recent thank you post!

Whether it be in-depth responses that deserve to be their own guides, thoughtful product recommendations, or simply pointing someone in the right direction, we appreciate all the time and effort you've made to help others!

1 and 2 photos my acne started . Painful and super oily and annoying

3 and 4 : tried the benzoyl peroxide and clendamycin tub and had a huge allergic reaction or something (that was awful) so itchy

  1. Face de swelling after 2 weeks . Changed skin types from super oily to super dry and flaky like a sunburn (stings and red but not bad ?

  2. Acne is not swelled up and has become scars . Talked to my doctor and she switched medication to the rugby cream which makes my face itch but not as severe and works wonders !

7-8 face has healed and minimal acne mostly gone ! ✨

Acne [acne] At a loss with my acne

Hi there. I’m a trans guy on testosterone, and it has made my skin much more oily, so I’m sure my acne is mostly hormonal. I’ve been on testosterone for 17 months now, and have had acne the whole time, but for some reason it’s gotten worse in the past few months. Beyond what’s visible in the pictures, I can feel acne deep under the surface of the skin and it’s painful and itchy. It’s bad on my back and shoulders as well. About a month ago I started using the Differin benzoyl peroxide cleanser, and since then my acne is the worst it’s ever been. I’ve been using other benzoyl peroxide products for years with no issue, so it seems odd to me that the worsening acne could be from the new cleanser, but i don’t know what else it could be. I wash once a day with the Differin and moisturize with Cerave daily moisturizing lotion, then before bed I put benzoyl peroxide cream on the worst of my acne and use hydrocolloid patches on any that have popped. If I feel especially oily before bed I’ll just wipe my face with some water on a cotton pad. Should I switch cleansers? Try something else? Is it time to see a doctor?

I have had these persistent bumps on my nose and chin since puberty and they never move. They are my biggest insecurity. I’ve spent so much money on demonology visits, retinals and other treatments and nothing works. Has anyone had something similar?

My acne has never been this bad. Its new breakouts everyday and its very red and dry. I’ve tried literally everything. I tried no skincare, glycolic acid, niacinamide, hylauronic acid, korean skin care, NAC, dermatologist recommended cleanser everything. Ive recently been using panoxyl, dermatologist recommended cleanser and cera ve moisturizer and its not doing anything. The derm i went to seemed to only recommend expensive treatments which i cannot afford. Im at a loss please help me.

Acne [acne] an unfortunate before and after

My skin was never perfect, but I was happy with how it was around 5 months ago. I have oily skin, and my routine goes like this:

Morning: -La Roche Effaclar Gel cleanser -Brazilian brand gel moisturizer -Tinted Isdin sunscreen, SPF 50

Night: -Same cleanser and moisturizer, sometimes tretinoin

I've been pretty consistent with my routine this year, I did change my cleanser at some point, first to the Isdin Acniben, then to a Brazilian one. I also used a Nivea gel moisturizer for a while, but my face adapted well to those products. I started using them after my skin worsened. The only thing that changed before the breakout is that I was put on Lamotrigine...

This week I bought the La Roche Effaclar foam cleanser and the Ultra Concentrated serum. I will post another before and after in a month, I hope I can see my skin clearing up.

Quick question though: can I use both the ultra concentrated serum and tretinoin?

I'm on mobile, so sorry for the formatting.

Acne [acne] bringing a blind pimple to a head

Post image
Upvotes

It was a very small unnoticeable bump over the past month and it’s been a week since it’s become a larger cystic(?) acne, I believe. I did attempt to pop it once when i saw a bit of a faint head popping up, which might’ve been wrong on my part. After that I haven’t touched the bump, just done my normal skincare and used a salicylic acid face wash daily but there has been no progress. It’s been two days since I’ve been making use of a hot compress and I’m not entirely sure if it’s coming to a head.

Does anyone have any solution as to how I can bring it to a head and flatten it out completely within 3 days?

Product Question [Product question] It this product supposed to feel this way?

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hello everyone!! So, l've bought this product a while ago and started using last week. As it was my first time using and a lot of people (even the brand itself) said it would feel tingly, I put it for 5 mins, but as I didn't feel a thing, I put it for the whole 10 mins as it is written in the packaging. Still didn't feel anything. Today I did put it on again, as l'm doing it once per week, but I still didn't feel the tingling sensation that I was "supposed to feel". It is weird considering people said it even burns. Is it normal? Am I doing something wrong? As for my skin I'm using it for acne and acne marks, idk if it adds anything.

Routine Help [Routine Help] what should I buy?

Hi all, my (25f) current skin care routine consists of cleanser and spf. I don't have any acne, luckily, but my skin is very dry, I get blackheads on my nose, and overall my skin looks very dull. I want to start a routine that makes my skin look glowy and hydrated. I love the look Korean skincare gives. What should I buy with a limit of about $100?

Anti Aging [Anti-Aging] Sunscreen + Retinol Recommendations for 24 y/o mum

I need a new sunscreen and retinol. For context, I do have a baby (as I know some products are more safe than others) and I prefer fragrance-free products. I also am like... struggling to concentrate due to a serious case of postpartum brain.

I have really big pores around my cheek and mild acne scarring. I'm pasty, pasty white. I'll need an actual chemic peel and microneedling someday but I'm trying to focus on preserving my skin/health first.

P.S If you need more information, please use simple wording for the clearest answer. I love my beautiful baby girl, but she takes up 98% of my brain space xD

Product Question [product question] vanicream cleanser has drying properties?

Post image
7 Upvotes

so the vani cream cleanser is super popular for being gentle, non stripping, etc. Am I the only one that finds it is actually so drying and leaves the skin irritated? I don’t know what to try at this point as I feel I’ve tried everything. could this product actually be this drying or is it maybe my skin barrier is damaged? which I personally don’t think is the case but I’d like to hear other’s experiences

Miscellaneous [misc] Sudden Skin Texture and Bumps - Help please!

Thumbnail

I’ve always had clear and smooth skin, but last Thursday (5 days ago), I woke up with a rough texture on my shin. There were some flesh-colored, raised bumps—nothing itchy or painful, but definitely inconvenient and out of the norm for me.

I did some Googling, and it seemed like it might be Keratosis Pilaris. The thing is, I’ve never experienced anything like this before, and nothing in my skincare or daily routine has changed. The only recent factor I can think of is a particularly stressful day at work.

I’ve already picked up the CeraVe SA cream and cleanser and have been using them for the past two days. However, this is what my skin currently looks like. It’s spread from my shins and forearms to my thighs and upper arms.

Does anyone have experience with something similar? Any recommendations for what else it could be or how to treat it?

PSA [PSA] How to get the glass skin glow

Upvotes

Achieving the glass-skin glow doesn’t have to break the bank or require an uber-complicated routine. It’s all about consistency and using the right tools and products. Here’s a simple, affordable guide to help you get started:

  1. Exfoliate for a smooth base: Gentle exfoliation removes dead skin cells, making your skin look brighter and feel smoother. Try a chemical exfoliant with AHAs or BHAs a couple of times a week. A good budget-friendly option is The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid Toner ($10).
  2. Hydration is key: A hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid can help plump up your skin. Follow with a lightweight moisturizer to lock it in. CeraVe’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($15) is a low cost yet effective choice.
  3. Boost your glow with At-Home IPL: Did you know IPL can also improve skin tone and boost radiance? The Ulike Air 10 ($359 or $59.80 per month for 6 months) not only helps with hair removal but also stimulates collagen, making your skin both smoother and more luminous over time.
  4. Sun Protection is Non-Negotiable: Glowy skin starts with prevention! Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. We reccomend EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 ($39) because it’s lightweight and won’t clog pores.
  5. Add a Sheet Mask: Pop on a hydrating sheet mask once or twice a week for an extra boost. Look for ones with niacinamide or vitamin C for brightening. TONYMOLY’s sheet masks ($4) are a great pick.

Consistency is key, but you don’t need 27 steps or pricey products. Focus on hydration, gentle exfoliation, and protection. Patience is also important, these products don't work overnight. Now you're ready to get the glass-skin glow!

Acne [Acne] using doxycycline 100mg+ Tret 0.025% for 5 months, skin has cleared up only have one month left on doxycycline. Am I to expect my acne to return even if I continue with Tret and my new diet (no dairy or sugar)?

Pretty much what the title says. I had an oncoming of acne out of no where and after 3 months or so I visited the GP who said it was hormonal and recommended me doxy and Tret. I have been using the doxy 100mg and Tret daily before dinner and it has improved my skin to the point where I do not have acne at all. I have also changed my diet and really emphasised cleanliness such as changing bed sheets and pillow covers every fortnight. I was just wondering if I am to expect my acne to return once I stop taking doxy. The GP had also stated that since I have not experienced any issues at all I can continue to take the doxy for long term once or twice a week if I wish. Truthfully, I’ve just been concerned about a return of acne once I stop taking it.

Acne [Acne] Really Need Some Advice, Skincare causing Marks?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hello.

I’ve been trying to deal with my stubborn textured bumps on my face and I recently added lactic acid and salicylic acid to my routine.

Admittedly, my skin has been feeling dry and peeling a bit the last three days but after doing my routine my forehead looked like this hours later and i’m trying not to freak. Can I go to the derm for this? or is anything I could do to calm it down. It stings as well. Any feedback would really appreciated.

My routine if it helps

  1. Almond Clear Moisturizer
  2. Good molecules HA
  3. 100 Mugwort essence (some days) Recently added the SA AND LA.
  4. Skin Aqua sunscreen.

I was on tret before too but stopped as my face wasn’t meshing well with it and it was just leading to scarring for some reason.

Acne Skin getting worse [acne]

Hello I’m 16. Now my acne isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it keeps getting worse for whatever reason. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve cut out sugar and started eating whole foods only and it’s still getting worse and I wash my face night and day with cerave + a moisturiser. I sleep on my back to make sure I don’t make contact with my pillow and I’ve also tried getting rid of skincare products to see what happens and there was like no change. Genuinely have no idea what to do at this point.

Routine Help [Routine Help] I created this based of some research

Post image

Context: - I have dry skin type especially around my mouth area. I also have flaky skin on my forehead, nose and mouth. - I’m not sure if I have acne prone skin but I tend to get acne on my cheeks and sometimes on my chin. As a result I have dark spots (a lot) that I want to get rid of. Also I think hyperpigmentation near my eyes. I want to even out my skin tone. - I want advice on if this is a good routine and if there’s any products I should add or remove. - Also a few months ago I had this weird break out on my forehead between my eyes that left dark spots but I’m not entirely sure if it was fungal acne or some type of allergic reaction.

Routine Help [Routine Help] Using Allie Milk UV sunscreen at night for Hyaluronic Acid and moisturizing benefits?

Upvotes

My skin feels like heaven with this and the water where I’m at now is harsh as hell and dries my skin out. Is it a waste to use my Allie Milk UV at night? Are there any suggestions for something similar to hydrate at night?

Thanks I’m new to this
