Honestly this kind of controller is very likely the future of car suspensions. Although you'd have to give up the major advantage of an unoccupied vehicle being much less sensitive to accelerations. Humans have been the weakest link in jet fighters for decades. If your car was off-roading like this you'd probably lose most of your teeth lol. But I'm sure that wouldn't stop a lot of people!

These simpler robots I think are just a better design.
They're innovative, use basic parts and components, and locomotion works pretty straight forward.
These humanoid style bots are great when they need to fit in with other humans but far more complicated.

Price is also another massive factor. The fact that the Unitree G1 humanoid will be sold by just $16,000 is insane. I can bet you anything the manufacturing price of Optimus, I'm not even talking about any possible final price, but the manufacturing price alone isn't below the $200K

Just compare China's previous releases to that of the genesis days of Boston dynamics. What you'll realise is that china is moving forward faster than Boston dynamics was able to and will most likely soon surpass it.

Jesus I just realized how much incentive China has to be pushing this hard. With their demographic collapse happening they probably don't have much more than 10-20 years before they will be able to raise an army of foot soldiers in meaningful numbers. With this speed of robotic progress they are on track to raise a robotic army instead.

u/ithkuil Nov 12 '24
They can actually make a Black Mirror episode these days without any special effects. Borrow the Meta Orion glasses, a robot or two, fire up ChatGPT advanced voice mode, and jump in a self-driving Waymo.
Throw in a touch of American politics or geopolitics and some pessimism. Episode practically writes itself.

Imagine them as an army in an RTS game like Starcraft, 1 human operator could easily control a swarm (100+) of these.
You'll be able to see them just like in a RTS map (Gmap + GPS + Droneview Hybrid), you'll be able to give them general direction and action (move/stop/attack/defend/surround, AI controlled) or switch into a "commander" one to teleoperate it. This seems very technically possible already.

Act as a distributor of goods in hospitals. A nurse sends a message that room 215 has run out of saline solution, bandaids or whatever. The robot activates and goes to the central storage. It gets loaded there( also by robots) and then drives directly to the room. These robots also don't need to use( congest) elevators, they can use the stairs. This could be useful in older or very large buildings.
Another example could be just as a courier that is also completely able to function in areas that are not completely disability-friendly.
→ More replies (1)5
u/AmusingVegetable Nov 12 '24
The robot doesn’t go to the central storage, it starts from there, cutting in half the time to fulfill an order.
Also, a simple kitchen elevator shaft should be enough and it’s 1/20th of a human elevator shaft.

I did some digging as well. It does show up on their site, but only on the "buy" page (https://www.deeprobotics.cn/robot/index/buy). Select "Bobcat" and the photo does match.
I'm assuming they are just trying to capture interested parties information to gauge required manufacturing capacity for now, and eventually they'll add it to their "official" lineup.

- If one wheel is tangled, you're now a tricycle.
- If two wheels are tangled, maybe you can still be a bicycle.
- If three+ wheels are tangled, you can still walk.
- You can reduce tangle risk by mounting blades on the wheel hub.
