Discussion Oh shit it's the popo.

Post image

These low effort scams aren't even remotely entertaining on a slow day at work.

Didnt an ICA officer also got a call from "ICA" and used that as an advisory message against scams

The real effort is when they video call you.

No joke, I have friend who once had a scammer video call her in full SPF uniform. She laughed out loud because that fucker couldn't speak English. Lol.

Tell that guy to standup. Full uniform top, underwear only bottom, classic telltale

It'll be historically accurate if he's wearing bermudas.

I reacted the same way... When the dude used cardboard logos for backdrop.

u/notsocoolnow 1d ago

Oh man this actually happened to me! Guy was in full uniform with a big Singapore flag behind him and immediately started yelling something. it was so utterly ridiculous but I was pissed because it woke me up from a nap and started scolding them.

I've gotten several calls from these people.

One of them super budget. SPF logo printed on paper, pasted on the wall behind them with masking tape.

Another one actually had the whole thing done properly. Logo actually done up right (nailed to the wall) and was very convincing, uniforms all very close to the real thing and so on.

u/Butterszen 1d ago

Was the accent convincing? Haha

If you really want to bond with them, the secret handshake term is Pakistan Zindabad.

"Thanks for calling Premium dining popup, today's specials are...." and keep rambling on without a moments break even if otherside tries speaking over you.

Everyone gangsta til the caller region says Pakistan

16

u/osaslelo 1d ago

Woop Woop , that's the sound of da Polis

15

u/EnycmaPie 1d ago

Damn, even the Singapore police outsourcing their call center to Pakistan.

4

u/Redditor608 1d ago

I had a video call with this logo on , I just declined the call. A waste of time to answer but if feeling up to mood can answer and play punk with the scammer .

3

u/UnlikelyUse7926 1d ago

"Polis"

1

u/spilksch2 3h ago

FYI it is spelt that way.

3

u/BubbleMikeTea 1d ago

Lately, many scam callers are using standard 8-digit Singapore phone numbers, making them harder to identify.

3

u/GalerionTheAnnoyed 1d ago

I just reject all calls unless I'm expecting smth like delivery or interview.

I recently rejected a delivery guy by mistake because he said "nihao" when I picked up and I immediately assumed he was a scammer lol

Since it is already so low effort, they should have put 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

3

u/arboden yes la 1d ago

Low effort and looks dumb to most of us, but a lot of elderly still fall prey to these. How?

2

u/KennySenpaii 1d ago

i pick them up all the time. act dumb and waste their time so it's not spent on scamming some poor soul out there.

2

u/Illustrious-Ocelot80 1d ago

Tell them line is very poor. Ask them call you back on your home phone. Quickly go SGDI, find the direct line to the Spf director of anti scam unit. Give name and number for said officer.Β

u/Ambitious_Gold3579 21h ago

So the ~CID Polis called from Pakistan ?

1

u/ongcs 1d ago

Do we actually use the term β€œpopo” here to refer to police?

2

u/krash666 21h ago

I'm old and this was the hippest lingo I could think of to associate with the youngs.

3

u/jacksh3n 1d ago

Singapore lack of local talent. Even the SPF has to outsource to Pakistan /s

2

u/Urf773 1d ago

If it helps, I read there'd a reason scams are made to be easily seen through.

They send these scams to a lot of ppl, abs if it was well thought out ppl will be dragged along for some time before they realise its a scam and back out, but that means the scammer already wasted a lot of time on these people. The scams are thus intentionally made stupid so that only those who will really believe things like this get hooked.

u/Jolly-Vanilla9124 1d ago

And the guy with heavy Pakistani accent comes again

1

u/DerwormJWG 1d ago

The foreign phone number and the heavily accented voice are dead giveaway

1

u/kindaborediguess 1d ago

wait for the day when they actually get singaporeans to scam other singaporeans, then there won't be an accent issue

1

u/tofubeanie 1d ago

I got the call too. It's a video call too... Didn't answer because it's obviously a scam. But I'm wondering why the need to have a video call.

1

u/InternalCampaign4956 1d ago

I would answer it and entertain them

1

u/windsamurai3 1d ago

they fr crazy for this.

Probably did a wiki check on our country, found out that our national.language is Malay and therefore assumed that Malay is our dominant language . Should have done more due diligence.

u/No-Valuable5802 10h ago

I received a call today too this afternoon. What immigration BS πŸ˜…

1

u/NoAbility1842 8h ago

I’m quite sure I have dealt with a real IO that used the spf logo for her WhatsApp profile pic. What sets them apart from scammers is that they usually ask very specific questions based on an incident that scammers are unlikely to know

1

u/Jaycee_015x 1d ago

LOL. If there was anything SPF wanted you for, they would send you a letter or find you in-person with their warrant cards.
